Amazing

I don't keep track of this stuff, and by "this stuff", I mean most things normal, functioning human beings keep track of.

@Dedonus
...
I only believe that I know what my teachers have professed to teach me; if it is anyone's fault for my lack of wisdom, it must be theirs. For teachers believe themselves to know things; they must, to be accepted in their profession, because a professor who would not profess would be, in short, worthless. And do the best students not emulate the behaviors they see from their teachers? Surely it is not the fault of the student, then, when they inherit the "wisdom" (and foolishness) of their dear professors.

What Greek text should I throw her way this time...

Edit: Also, that last Greek text wasn't supposed to be a personal attack. Just was throwing out a (relatively) famous "quote" of Sokrates about wisdom. Until stated otherwise, I'll assume @RomanAria's response was just a snarky way to say that she understood the Greek text (I mean, the Genitive of Comparison was a masculine noun...).

Sushi. Yes, that's right -- raw fish in the middle of a desert. I TRUST IT IMPLICITLY.

@Dedonus I'm sorry, that wasn't clear before. I thought it was an attack and allowed myself to get a touch snarky. I apologize.

(I actually didn't even understand the text as in, reading it and comprehending. People have quoted that passage at me so many times that I've memorized the translation that goes with that set of characters. I haven't suddenly learned Greek in like two months, though not for lack of wishing. Why must my school not offer Ancient Greek classes?!)

Yes, that'll help the old job search. "Can you use C++?" "No, but I translated your fraternity letters from your coffee mug and it says Penis in Greek." "You're hired!"

@mdk *grumble* They offer Latin classes. I don't see why they wouldn't offer Greek.

No problem. I'm sorry that I pulled out by chance the one quote people preach at you with. My bad! I just wanted to say that people shouldn't feel bad that a 14/15 year old is going to be a freshman in college next year. Sure, there will be people smarter than you are, but there surely will be an equal (if not a larger) number of people who are more dumb. I mean, people these days. Sometimes, I feel that if the human race was depending on its own intelligence for its survival, we all would we screwed!

From my experience as both a student and a teacher of ancient Greek, I would say that the attrition rate would be way too high for the high school level. It is already pretty high at the college level.

"I can read the New Testament in its original text, and when I mean the original text, I mean the patchwork that scholars have pieced together because we don't have a complete version that is not relatively young."

But it is interesting how many people will try (keyword) to take Greek so that they can read the Bible in the original language. Too bad many of them don't make it.

My school only offers Spanish and German. Which is probably a good thing, because otherwise I would decide to learn Chinese or Japanese and die from never, ever being able to read any of it.

At least Japan had the sense to create an alphabet. I took both..... Japanese way easier. Though, also, their kanji make no sense at all -- four different pronunciations for every character? No thanks.

@mdk that's how it is for each character in mandarin
Or rather vice versa-four ways to say something and each pronunciation has a diff character

I'm backing out... I can't do this. I'd rather do something fun and more beneficial to my short attention span.
Which means I'll at least be around to write reviews for this.

Well, focusing your time into a large project can be really fun if you settle into a rhythm. Novel writing is not for everyone, though.

Aww, I was looking forward to seeing what you came up with. But hey, if you're not having fun writing, then the writing generally isn't going to be that good, now is it? If you enjoy something and have a better outcome with it, it's better than doing something you don't like and being disappointed in what you get.

@Keyguyperson I suppose it would still be better than doing something you used to absolutely love, working yourself to a shadow over it, and then still not being good enough in the end.
*glances at her pile of sheet music and then looks at the clarinet-key-shaped raw spots on her fingers*
Not that I know what I'm talking about or anything.
Edit: And by the way, I'm still hoping you'll let me read your novel when it's through.
