Carl turned the last bolt on the dome's motor and radioed down to the man in the control room. "Ok, Deven, that should do it." The motor activated and started turning, closing the dome. Not a minute too soon, Carl thought, as he looked out to the horizon and saw a dirty, phosphorescent cloud slowly blowing towards the city. He may be able to survive outside in a rad storm, but if too much of the fallout from it managed to get inside the dome the plants wouldn't survive.
He walked over to the elevator and pushed the button to go down. Things were starting to break down a lot faster than they would have in the pre-war days. Maybe the radiation made things corrode faster? Whatever the cause, they at least had plenty of replacement parts available as salvage. One day, though, that would end. How long would that take? Two hundred, three hundred years maybe? Would he live that long, now that he was a ghoul? The doctor said that they weren't aging very quickly anymore, so maybe. However long, eventually he would need manufacturing equipment to make that which you couldn't salvage. Maybe he should start building some? He thought about it as he walked over to "A Slight Concession", the only restaurant currently in Stadium. At least it had fresh ingredients to use now, instead of making stadium food for every meal. There's only so many times you can eat identical frozen hamburger patties and hot dogs before you got tired of them.
