It's A Wonderful Life!

This RP is now accepting new characters

Summary:

- A jaunt of daring and do within the Warhammer 40,000 universe and setting.

- Characters can come in most shapes and sizes, their age, experience and so forth pretty much up to the participant; that being said, I will immediately reject any God-like beings or over the top characters.

- Romance, violence and so forth are expected and accepted, let's just keep it to a 'adult' level without it getting X-rated!

- Our tale takes place in the most up-to-date period of 40K timeline, the beginnings of the 42nd Millennium.

- Character sheets will be accepted based on merit alone, not 'first come first serve'; the more odd/powerful your character, the more exceptional your character sheet will need to be.

- I fully expect, and intend, for characters to evolve over time during this RP. An example might be that someone loses a limb and seeks a bionic replacement, whether they get one will be both up to me as GM and the participants as a whole; character sheets will then be edited to show any changes, as with a TT role-playing game, and just remember that every action will likely have some form of reaction.

- This will be a 'high casual - advanced' RP, correct spelling and the like is encouraged (although I'll let less obvious mistakes slide), and at least a paragraph per post. An entire novel is welcome, but not necessary.

- A decent grasp of the 40K lore is welcome, but newcomers are entirely welcome as well.

- This RP, for reference(s) sake, could be compared to Band of Brothers, Sharpe/Hornblower, Dirty Dozen as well as many more.

- We will be playing as a composite regiment I.E. one composed of elements from decimated contingents, allowing for variety and, hopefully, more interesting role-playing.

- All elements of the Imperial war machine can/will be represented (minus Astartes etc); Mechanicus, psykers, Naval contingents and the like.

- This will not be a purely military RP, there will be battles and combat, but it will ultimately not be the entire story. Thank the Emperor.

- While I do have plans for the narrative, I'm all too happy to listen to suggestions from participants, questions and anything else.

In Character Info:

For a full two decades the armies of the Imperial Guard, just one branch of the cumbersome Imperial machine, have sought to bring to an end the rule of Warboss Mug Thrakta within the Vernum System of the Imperium; arriving from out of the warp one day, followed by millions of his greenskinned boyz, Thrakta immediately set about enslaving those that did not resist - setting them to work constructing crude hab-units and towering edifices to the Ork gods, as well as weapons and armour for his ever growing legions - and destroying those that sought to impede or halt his progress across the system.

The Imperium does not take kindly to any incursion, let alone to losing a system vital to the production of armament, and without so much as a second thought an armada of ships and a faceless muster of Guard regiments were gathered together into a hammer that would strike Thrakta from this world. With the support of Astartes detachments, Naval support and superiority, it took millions of lives and twenty whole years to push the Greenskins back to Vernum Primas - the capital planet of the system, and the last Ork stronghold to take before cleansing operations could begin to wipe out the scourge forever.

Reinforcements had been poured constantly into the attacking forces, fresh regiments from thousands of worlds arriving to find depleted and mauled remnants of others waiting to greet them. Now Lord General Militant Van Deer has commanded that these 'splinter regiments' shall be used as the spearhead for his final assault upon Vernum City - the singular settlement upon Vernum Primas - a huge construction of towering walls and winding streets backed against a solid mountain range; two breeches have been created by continuous bombing by Basilisk batteries, and it is now up to boots on the ground and attack from above to finish off the tusked menace once and for all!

Thrakta himself has rallied his most powerful Nobz to him, taking up position within the Governor's Palace, and it is here that the head will be struck from the body...but first the Guard must get there, forcing their way through the frenzied and rabid defenders of the city, already under-strength regiments sent in first, to win a glorious victory or to die for the God-Emperor in the attempt.

Out of character info:

Welcome, one and all, to the grim darkness of the future where their is only war!

So, there you go; we shall begin mid-battle, outside the walls of Vernum City as the assault progresses - think Saving Private Ryan, but instead of running up a beach it is besieging a city. Feel free to make up the numbers of your regiment, their location and which breech they are using (there is one on the left wall and one on the right), because either way they will be decimated.

Any questions can be asked to me, and I shall be happy to provide answers.

I expect everyone will have some knowledge of Warhammer 40K, but for those that might lack a little, I have always found warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Warhammer_.. to be one of the best places to look. Just make certain that the information has a source, otherwise it is very likely fan made and therefore not canon.

Rules

- Sort your squabbles out in private. If you persistently disagree with another player or they're grieving you, involve me. If necessary, I will get the moderators involved.

- No godmodding (controlling someone else's character).

- Try to post at least once a week, let me know if you can't post soon, and please try for at least three paragraphs.

- One character per player.

- My decisions are final.

Character Sheet

Please submit your character sheets by WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 13th. Please send them to me in a Private Message before posting them to the Character tab.

Name: Your character's name. A pretty obvious one, so enough said.

Age:

Gender:

Height and Weight:

Speciality: What position do they specialise in? Heavy gunner? Operator? Medic? They may also be of a sub-speciality, such as a Commissar, Ogryn, Enginseer and so forth.

Appearance: A written description of your character's appearance. No pictures.

Uniform: This includes armour and the like - every Guardsman is issued with basic flak armour as standard.

Armament: With what are they armed?

Personality/Demeanour: What kind of person is your character, what are their motivations etc, and how do they interact with others?

Greatest Ambition:

Greatest Hatred:

Skills: What skills do they possess, how did they come by them, what have they used/been using them for?

History: A sketch of your character's life and history, preferably until their arrival at the fields outside the walls of Vernum City. Give me three solid paragraphs, at least, please. You can also use this section to describe your character's current regiment, their homeworld and so on.

Miscellaneous: Anything you want to mention but haven't been able to cover yet.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

@Tenlock Oh you are free to play a sanctioned psyker in a regiment, but as far as being anything to do with the Inquisition...that is a no-no. This is, as the title suggests, a Guard RP. We have no time for the Inquisition here.

I would have thought a regiment cobbled together to form a spearhead would have been a top priority for the Ordo Militarum. Watchful agents to make sure guard who have already lost the bulk of their regiment don't get any independent ideas.

But, if you are really against the idea, I'll just run with the Commissar character, well, commissar acolyte.

There is no regiment cobbled together to form a spearhead, methinks you are mistaking/misreading things, mein freund.

Also, there are any number of composite/mixed regiments in the Guard, if every one of them had an Acolyte to watch over them it would be a vast waste of resources.

I think I may have misinterpreted 'decimated' and all that.

I can think of all sorts of reasons why an acolyte might be assigned to a regiment, either from the Ordo Xenos or the Militarum. Not to say every regiment has one, but that 'ours' could. But, I'm not going to try and force a character you don't want :) Simples.

Now to write a character.

@Jbcool

Two things: One, what's the name of our regiment? And second, we should post our WIPs in this OOC, so that at least we can see which ideas other people are already working on, so we don't waste our time with a character someone else already wrote.

I'm currently writing the regimental commissar, in case anyone had the same idea.

@Andromedai@jbeil@Lord Coake@Tenlock@Vahir@Sarpedon@Agent B52 @neogreggory

Okay, clearly there is some confusion, so please allow me to clarify.

We are not yet a combined regiment; if you read the introduction, then you will see that we are all in our own seperate regiments at this point! They just happen to be regiments that are likely understrength and so forth.

Things such as regimental names, strength and all the rest of it, need not concern anyone until the siege is over, at which point the survivors - including our characters - will then be formed into the regiment that will continue.

Does this make sense to everyone?

I'll work on a sanctioned psyker character then, rather than have two commissar pcs running around, even if mine was a cadet.

Does this make sense to everyone?

@JbcoolSo I think I'm gonna have to drop out. I just don't think my writing capabilities are up to the standard currently being set here. Nothing against any of you, I just doubt I'm anywhere near the same level of quality.

@Lord Coake If that is truly all that you're irked about, then I would kindly request that you remain. :) Seriously, I've seen your writing, and I can honestly say that I'm not elitist enough to judge anyone on their writing; you can spell, you can write a decent post, where is the problem?

If you really wish to leave, then I'll accept that, but I would also ask that you give the RP some time and some investment before you make a final decision.

Ultimatley it is up to you.

Well for one, not a space marine or a psyker XD, or a man
second, far more amiable and generally friendlier than either of my previous characters

I mean like, do we just quickly make up a regiment seeing as it will be dead soon. Or are we suppose to like... I don't know attatch to known regiments like cadians or mordians?

Also I meant different from characters I've made for your campaigns before

@agentmanatee

If you mean abhuman - Ogryn, Ratling etc - then that's fine, if not then please tell me what you intend.

As for regiments, the one you're with at the beginning of the RP will soon be decimated in one way or another; you can make up your own, or just use one of the canon types - my character, for example, is going to be a Praetorian and will see most of his friends die. :)

@Bright_Ops

God-o, I'll take a ganders now.

@Flagg

I see you looking at my RP's a lot, boyo. Why not come in and say hello or, even better, join us...
