Bennie was born into a poor family that barely scraped through life. Her father, Leon had an explosive-yet well hidden-temper and maybe as a result of marrying young, having 4 kids, or mounting debts, he often took it out on his wife. One fateful summers eve Bennie had tried to stop yet another fight and took a heavy blow in the crossfire. Angry at her intrusion Leon turned his anger to her and unable to suffer more beatings or bear witness to her childrens, Magdalene went for her husbands gun and ended his cruelty for good. When the sound of horses inevitably followed the gunshot Magdalene, with tears in her eyes, left the one-room shack and tried to run. Unfortunately she didn't make it far when the policeman caught up to her and was swiftly sentenced to prison for murder. The day after the trial several stern looking people dressed in black came and took the 3 younger children to state care, old enough to work Bennie was left to fend for herself. #c89594

Rue was born into a middle-class family. His brother was a brilliant boy, who would have made their family proud. That was if the war hadn't hit. They were caught in the middle. Families were tore apart and death rained down onto the people. Elias and Helma thought best to take their child and baby sons to a new land, a promise land, where they may live again in peace. However, it wasn't meant to be either. In a world where the Kokurhm family couldn't speak the language, they were forced into refugee camps and eventually settled into a slums area of an erupting city. Elias and Zacurbal got a job shaping gears. Well the boys worked their hardest, Helma continued to care for her infant. This continued until Rue was 3, and his mother got sick and died.

After that Elias lost his way. He didn't know how to care for two young boys, and resulted in him turning towards alcohol to find a way out. Zac decided that the boys were better on their own. Wandering the streets, the military ended up recruiting Zac. Now fighting to one day return to his brother. Meanwhile, Rue, now 12, still wanders the streets, begging for food in a foreign tongue, or simply stealing from vendors.
