Nothing too fancy. We're coming back from the long break, post-NaNoWriMo and holiday season, and I wanted to take the temperature real quick on the contest. How are we doing? How can we do better in the new year? Would you like to help out?
Before we look forwards, let's take a quick look back. In 2015 we had some ups and some downs. The first big 'up' was getting off the ground in the first place, which was no small feat -- large thanks to the Mahz, HeySeuss, and the whole forum staff, and also to Terminal. Without these folks, the contest section never happens. RPGC is manned at all times by volunteers, and we've had about a dozen so far lending us their help in making things happen. RPGC brought six contests and produced about that many winners each time -- and besides that, a whole lot of great entries and, of course, reviews by the readers. I think I'm speaking for everyone when I say, I'm really proud of what we did together. Well, those are the positives. There were negatives too -- we had a pretty high-profile plagiarism issue, which has been addressed and safeguards added. You guys spotted it first, not us -- and now we're on the ball, so we're gonna make sure it doesn't happen again. Besides that, there have been a few promises left undelivered -- on my radar right now (and on my new year's resolutions) is the 'Hall of Fame' for winning entries (but more on that later). We promised to keep things changing and rotating, and we did our best to make it happen with varying success. We'll keep trying to push that envelope going forwards.
Looking ahead, it's a new year, and if there's one thing I like, it's "new." There's a few things in the works. First and foremost, new contests. We wanna keep all the things that worked, and shake up all the stuff we can. We need your feedback to know which is which. Let us know what you liked and what you'd like to see -- we'll make it happen. Or better yet, hop aboard for a month or two and help us do it. Also looking ahead, it's long past time that I actually do things I said I was going to do, so I'll be working on the RPGC Hall of Fame over the next week -- same thing goes, if there's anything you want to see from that effort, let me know so I can get it right.
Last things last -- I'm extremely proud of all the writers who've submitted things, and of all the staffers who made this awesome thing happen every month. I want more of both! So to that end, if you'd like to try a round as a staffer, I'm flinging the doors wide open. We want YOU for RPGC #7, and for all contests to come. Thanks, and keep on writing! AND OF COURSE, make sure you check out TTL, now on the sixth of twelve epic labors.
