In 2300 there are four major factions on Mars.
Space Faction, puppets of the governments of Earth and the strongest faction, has a monopoly on imports to the planet from Earth, and therefore have the newest tech from there. They are known for their high tech and high population, as they are constantly bringing in huge numbers of colonists from Earth. They also import large amounts of titanium from the moon. Their main method of power generation is Fusion, using lunar helium 3 or local, safer, aneutronic sources of PB11 and PLi7. They have been known to deploy high-end force fields and advanced energy weapons.
Gene Faction specializes in genetics and cloning. They are most well known for creating people and animals for the other factions. They also genetically engineer people, animals, and plants, including giving people unstable, but useful, paranormal abilities, usually psionics. They've been known to deploy genetically engineered people and animals to protect their interests from the other factions. They generally use the safer aneutronic fuel sources in their fusion reactors.
Water Faction is based at the edge of the northern polar ice cap, and produces huge amounts of water. This abundance of water has lead to them creating large amounts of food and chemicals, as water and food can be used to manufacture many chemicals. They often use explosives and chemical based weapons and defenses, and are one of the few factions that can manufacture carbon nanotubes. They've been known to use Deuterium-Tritium fuel in their reactors, which is produced from water. They also use hydrogen fuel cells in their vehicles and for mobile power sources.
Metal Faction, with their main city at Olympus Mons, are the leading producers of metal on the planet. They have large numbers of mines around their cities, and massive refining facilities as well. They use large, metal armored vehicles and environmental suits, preferring physical weapons like melee weapons, and rail and projectile guns. Their power is usually generated in large nuclear reactors that are powered either by U-235, P-239, or Th-234, and they have some of the most powerful batteries, though they aren't the most efficient based on weight or size.
There are also smaller factions which trade with one or more major factions to get what they need. They usually have mixed technology based on the factions they deal with.
Yesterday Space Faction attacked the city of a minor faction called Plastic Faction and seized it. The armies of the other major factions were already preparing for the Earth to try and seize control, but the minor factions weren't ready. They will need to band together, or join one of the major factions to be protected against the advancing front.
We are in Party City, the main city of Entertainment Faction. A scout group from Space Faction was just seen near the city, having set up a base five kilometers away, and, as they don't have anything but a minor security force, Entertainment Faction just posted an offer for local Merc groups on the city's 'Net. They'll need to get together groups of people to look into and fix the situation, either through diplomacy, stealth, or battle. We'll form a group in order to take them up on their offer.
This won't necessarily be a fighting RP, but we can do whatever the majority of people want to do. I just want to play in this world.
