@Cyclone, I thought Equatorial regions didn't have seasons. At least, where I live irl doesn't have any season other than "summer"
Google says seasons exist in equatorial regions but are very mild. I'm guessing that the extreme seasons from a bigger tilt on Galbar would make them actually notable, albeit with not as much variance as other places north and south.
I know a lot of places just have wet seasons and dry seasons. I guess it makes sense for parts of Galbar to be like that, but unless somekne brings in the science I won't overcomplicate this.
@Cyclone As long as cornerstone stays about on the equator, mostly for flavour reasons, I'm fine with that.
For some reason, I like the idea of Cornerstone moving away from the equator by a mile or two and driving Toun into a perfectionist rage. He'd immediately sunder the local tectonic plate and move Cornerstone back into place atop his new mini-plate, creating massive earthquakes and killing millions in the process.

*passes this idea on a note to Vestec*
Well, I guess that's one method of creating a tsunami.
As long as the Aphids aren't tampered with too much, I'm cool. Because I plan on Kyre taking some of them and using might to 'evolve' them, creating a new sentient life.
I asked mainly because a ton of Slough's creatures will be straight-up moved from the Deepwood to the Shining Woods
A bunch of them are adapted for life in the Deepwood. You'll have to make some modifications. Or better yet, have Slough come by and fill it with life after she's not comatose. Until then, go ahead and move to your heart's content.
Could just wait for Zeph's party to see even more, but if you want to just pay a friendly visit the insane storm god is surprisingly welcoming.
I specifically want to go up there before the party. It is Teknall's as much as Zephyrion's, after all. I'm hoping he'll bump into Lifprasil (@poog the pig), and thus get inspiration for making his own demigod.
Oh please, no more oceans, if anything we need to put some land in the middle of the ones we already have. Either way, my bit of land was going to be in the pass between the oceans but don't worry, I can adapt to any change
Raethos is about to realize he made a mistake in creating a race like the Pronobii in such a way. I've already thought of 2 curses that Kyre could use on them, making them a lot easier to deal with for the other races, and much, much harder for them to even begin 'the great purge'.
What are you planning to do with my babies >.> The great purge of Galbar (and/or Arcon) MUST happen! It will be the great flood of the planet!
I have been thinking, writing 'the hain equivalent of a smile' is a bit cumbersome. I tried thinking of some examples of quick body language that would work for the hain in my slough week post, but it wasn't exactly thorough. I reckon I'll give it a better shot this time.
So...what are we missing from human faces? - Lips - Eyebrow - Nose bridge
What has been carried over? - Eyes - Jaw and mouth with teeth - A head that can angle itself - Hands and arms (this is not so subtle, but might make up for missing features)
I know that there are more subtle expressions than the seven basic human faces, I'll just go with them for now as a starting point. Anyone can expand on these expressions for the sake of nuance when describing hain. Keep in mind that hain view things from the side of their heads, like birds, so make sure that you imagine the default position of their heads is side-on to the other party.
Anger: - Eyes narrowed. - Mouth open with teeth displayed. - Head tends to stay still and focussed. - Clenched fists, slightly bent elbows.
Fear: - Eyes wide. - Mouth closed, teeth audibly chatter, even if adrenaline has not been released. [Side note: Chattering teeth while idle and out of danger is a sign of long term stress and anxiety in a hain] - Beak front turned slightly towards the subject, tends to flit from side to side to switch eye pairs more quickly and frequently. - Slightly bent elbows, but fists not clenched by default.
Disgust: - Eyes narrowed. - Mouth closed and still. - Head angled back slightly from subject. - Hands neutral.
Contempt: - Head angled back slightly from subject. - Other features neutral.
Joy: - One or both palms upturned and open. - Beak angled upwards slightly. - Other features neutral.
Sadness: - Eyes narrowed or closed. Hain have tears like humans. - Jaw generally clenched, but extreme sadness has the mouth held slightly open. - Beak front angled downwards. - One or both hands generally held against the side of the head.
Surprise: - Eyes wide. - Mouth clenched. - Beak front angled towards subject slightly. - Elbows bent to roughly right angles. - Palms bared directly to subject.
What does everyone think about this? I know it's oversimplified and I am kind of tired but it might be a start.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, I am very open to suggestions here. I'm not a body linguist by any means.
My personal take on the language sphere issue is that splitting language into portfolios in different domains is only necessary because of the limited cast of gods we already have. The whole idea of linguistics is more than broad and adaptable enough to occupy an entire domain of its own- Language (Symbolism), Language (Song), Language (Incantation), Language (Debate), Language (Diplomacy), Language (Script), Language (Cryptography)... All of which are significantly different in connotations and would suit different gods.
Damn, there goes another good set of ideas for a divine character.
@Antarctic Termite In my recent post about languages I left the sculptors out (meaning they still speak the root language of the gods, thus can understand all languages) in case you decide to go with the wanderer race thing.
Thanks! Just for clarification, I'll note that Sculptors inherit whatever mortal language they had when they ascended, but aren't very vocal outside of their dancy body language deal. The more codified sign language they now share with Urtelem will definitely diversify into dialects along with other languages once I get down to spreading it. The idea that they pick up 'unmortalised' speech through singing to Jvan is definitely something I'll keep, though. I like that.
It's official. Fire has been invented by the Hain.
The thing about ports and domains is that they are usually reallr flexible, like, cant the god of fire create ice by taking all the heat from something?
Also for the names. It works the same way as the crows of Reathos. They can see the Soul's True Name. Which cannot be changed through conventional magic. Should a shapeshifter turn into a wolf for example, then even in his wolf form the True Name would remain above him. Maybe through divine intervention the name could change? I'll leave that open for debate for now. But that's pretty much the only use it has. Recognition. In Egyptian culture the True Name meant that whoever knew your True Name could completely control you (Isis did this to Ra IIRC). But that would be VERY overpowered. So that is NOT how this will go.

I was actually thinking that True Names should have some kind of power. Perhaps not complete control, as that would be OP, but some power. For instance, if someone knew their own True Name, they would become more capable of controlling their physical body and spirit, making them able to wield magic with more skill and to carry out more physically difficult activities more easily. If someone else knew your True Name, they could hinder your ability to learn, make your body more sluggish etc. This isn't so important for gods (they can do that anyway) but would be interesting in the interactions of mortals with one another.
I would say that this wouldn't apply to gods and demigods.

I was planning on giving the True Names a certain power. In all honesty I was envisioning something more mental. Like one could access past memories through the True Names. Or increase focus through meditation, temporary 'separating' body and soul which could give certain insights into how the world of magic (and maybe the Gap?) worked. Those are all just mere suggestions.
