Jesse did a tight turn around a container ship surprising the bridge crew as she turned back towards the coast and when she hit it she turned south on the PCH cruising about 100 meters above the famous highway.
She slowed to about 160 kph (100 mph) an began to enjoy the scenery. Flowing beneath her and thinking this was a lovely coast and a busy one. She slowed here and there over the next few miles to admire homes and even a couple of businesses; it was calming her nerves.
But about 40 miles north of Santa Rosa she spotted a traffic jam so she accelerated to 250 kph (155 mph) an made a call on her head band.
" This is call sign Drifter Comms On" she said opening her channel to League HQ and reporting her position as she approached a cluster of flashing emergency vehicle lights.
Then as she floated down and observed the scene she saw two smashed cars on the road but all the firemen and CHIPS seemed to be more concerned with something over the side of the highway seaward.
Flying away from the coast she looked to see what the crews were so valiantly attempting.
There hanging on the rugged cliff face was a car with three bloodied people aboard as two roped off firemen tried to attach cables. It looked as if at any moment the damaged auto would plunge 30 meters into the water's below if they couldn't stabilize it.
So flying closer to the cliff Jess locked the car in place using her magnetic powers and asked a startled fireman
"Please excuse the intrusion sir but might I assist you?"To his credit the man was only briefly startled
"Can you lift them up to the road and out of danger; Thomas and I can stabilize the car till you get them all up." the older of the two answered.
"If you and your partner can hook up I can lift you all at once up to the road" offers Jesse with a cheerful smile as if she were offering to help him carry a small box up a flight of sstair.
At first he was doubtful till she demonstrated she had already secured the car. He told her he'd need to clear it with his captain after which he and his partner hooked themselves to the wreck.
It wasn't as easy as Jess made it look with all the combined weight close to her maximum lift. Of course she didn't tell the two firemen it was a strain knowing in this case expediency out weighed probability as the car floated slowly upward till it passed through the the guardrail it had broken when it crashed.
Cheers and applause erupted spontaneously from the motorists who'd been drawn to watch the drama. The emergency crews on the road wasted no time rushing the car to see to the injured as ambulance stretchers rolled close ready to take each as the EMTs waved them over.
Journalists tried to rush the car and were rejected by the officers so denied that prize they turned on Jess who exhausted and trying to gather her strength sat on the hood of a patrol car unwrapping a protein bar.
