Pokemon: Mystery Dungeon
Shadows of the Past
Shadows of the Past
"Wherever harmony lies, there will always be chaos. Even If we believe it to be defeated, one day it will always return, in one way, shape, or form."
Premise/Plot
Over the past few years, there have been many cases in which the Pokemon of this world have banded together to prevent the destruction of our world. From the earliest time of Team Go-Getters when they stopped the meteor from smashing into our planet. Team Pokepals when they stopped the destruction of Temporal Tower and soothed the savage Dialga. Many others as well have performed great deeds for our world.
However, as time passes, new evil always arises from the ashes of the previous one. As well, the great teams that prevented the world's destruction move on, and eventually vanish from public eye. Thus, new teams must step up and face the dangers of the Pokemon World, helping those in need and preventing disasters. When one such event threatens the very world in which we live, it seems a rare event occurs.
When the world is on the brink of destruction, supernatural forces call upon humans and bring them to our world in the forms of Pokemon. Generally they have no idea what is in store for them, and many times have no memory of their life before this occurs. They learn in time, and eventually find their destiny as protectors of this world. And now, it seems the cycle is beginning again. Forces once thought destroyed have returned, but It will take more than just a new batch of humans to prevent them this time. They must get the assistance of the original teams who defended to world once before, but will it even be possible?
*A quick side note, I don't know very much about the plot from the Super Mystery Dungeon game yet, as I've not had a chance to play it as of yet.*
Locations
These are the Locations currently available to the RP. More will be added as the RP progresses.
"Located far in the north, It is a usually peaceful village where young spelunkers and good hearted Pokemon can train at Spirit's Guild and become professional Explorers and Rescue Teams."
Important Features:
- Spirit's Guild: A Lucario by the name of Spirit runs an Exploration/Rescue Team Training Guild out here, helping prepare young Pokemon for the lives ahead of them.
- Melody's Healing Center: A Gardevoir by the name of Melody runs a clinic here in the village, where she's lived almost her whole life so far. She's become known as one of the greatest healers of her generation, if not the greatest.
- Kecleon Market: A common sight in most towns and villages, the Kecleon Brothers have their chain of stores everywhere for Pokemon to use to sell unused items and buy or trade for useful ones.
- Center Plaza Statue: A tribute to the four Pokemon who founded Valiant Village, the Swords of Justice. The team has been missing for over 10 years, and no trace of them has ever been found.
- Kangaskhan Storage: Even though Deposit Boxes are becoming much more widely used in the south, up in the north Pokemon still use Kangaskhan's storage service for their items. That being said, Kangaskhan has linked up her service to the Deposit Boxes as well.
"While the forest itself isn't considered a Mystery Dungeon, the Tranquil Forest Crevice within it is most definitely one. It's a relatively easy Dungeon, with few powerful Pokemon to cause much trouble."
Local Pokemon: Oddish, Bellsprout, Pidove, Wurmple, Hoppip, Tranquill
"A desolate location, when the sun beats down during the day the heat is near unbearable, when the moon rises the air is nearly freezing. It is a popular place for wanted outlaws to hide out."
Local Pokemon: Cacnea, Cacturne, Sigilyph, Maractus, Sandshrew, Sandslash, Hippopotas, Hippowdon
"A mountain that poses as an obstacle for travelers coming and going from Valiant Village. It is a double Mystery Dungeon, having two slopes: East Slope and West Slope. The same Pokemon live in each however."
Local Pokemon: Shellos (E/W), Gastrodon (E/W), Geodude, Graveler, Machop, Machoke, Onix, Dwebble, Crustle
"A Mountain shrouded in Myth and Legend, with a legend of its own saying that it once pierced the sky and touched the stars. It is the tallest mountain in the known world. It also stands as one of the most unexplored Mystery Dungeons to date."
Local Pokemon: Skarmory, Rhydon, Arcanine, Metagross, Garchomp, Scizor, Glalie, Abomasnow, Infernape, ???

Backstory: Rico is the male twin and offspring of Spirit the Lucario. He trains with his sister under his father at his guild, where he dream of becoming an exploration team. Their father is very strict, but they have found a way to get out at night, where they escape to the nearby woods and lay under the stars and relax. His dream is shared with his sister.
Personality: Rico is the more cautious and careful of the duo, often having to help his sister out of a sticky situation after one of her reckless acts. However, he is not all like that. He's the one that discovered how they could get out at night, and actually suggested it in the first place. He is one of the most caring Pokemon you'll ever meet, and also one of the most adventurous.
Team: Rico does not have an established team, yet!

Special Features: Rico has no distinguishing characteristics, yet!

Name: Lulu
Gender: Female

Backstory: Lulu is one of the twin Riolu of Spirit the Lucario, leader of Spirit's Guild. It was there that Lulu and her brother trained under their father to become an exploration team. No matter how strict he was with them though, they would always sneak out at night to the nearby woods to relax and watch the stars. They aren't an official team yet, but in time they will prove themselves.
Personality: Lulu is a lot more reckless than her brother, and often misjudges things such as jumps or drops. She's got a heart of gold, however, and wants to help Pokemon that need it while exploring alongside her brother. She has a likeness to her that just makes you want to smile when she's happy, it's hard to explain.
Team: Lulu does not have an established team, yet!

Special Features: To distinguish between the two without voice, Lulu wears a red ribbon around one of her ears.

Name: Dylan
Gender: Male
Pokemon: Mudkip
Backstory: Before all of this started, Dylan grew up in a suburban community, and lived a relatively normal life. However, being young and foolish, he tended to procrastinate various things (or at least try). Homework, chores, family obligations; almost anything was fair game to pushing back. His grades and motivation quickly decreased, and was frequently scolded. He valued his time with friends above all else. What he lost in procrastination, he made up for with general care for his friends He often was afraid that he'd lose his friends, so he tried to make them happy whenever possible. However, when one of his small group of friends had to move away, the group started to fall apart. Dylan slowly grew depressed, and with nothing better to do, stopped procrastinating. He worked with little emotion or enthusiasm. Only when he found a new group of friends did he become happy again. He continued to do his work (though still tried to get out of it here and there) and found a balance in his life. Currently he has no memory of his human life, only knowing his name, and knowledge of Pokémon.
Personality: Dylan tends to be wise for his age, due to the world wide web, as well as having to deal with some stress. He also puts others before himself mostly, however, he leans on those he trusts or absolutely needs help from. He tends to keep his true feelings and issues to himself, not wanting to bother others with his problems. Dylan enjoys to play games and has a competitive side to him when he plays. He makes friends fairly quickly (if they seem nice to him, that is), and once he considers someone a friend, he'll hold on to that title for as long as he can.
Team: Dylan does not have an established team, yet.
Moveset:
Special Features: Nothing too different about him, besides his eyes being a silver/gray instead of black.
Memories: Only remembers his name and the fact that he was human, nothing more

Name: Zaru
Gender: Male
Pokemon: Chimchar
Backstory: Zaru was born and partially raised outside the village. Their tribe usually travelled from one place to another to hone their talents further. They would climb mountains, travel through forests like it's any other day. That was Zaru's everyday life and he enjoyed the heck out of it. He and his brother would usually compete on who's better which just makes Zaru better and better. They were one happy family but then their parents got sick and soon died from this illness because they didn't have the necessary herbs to heal them.
So Zaru and Rick departed for Valiant Village, the nearest village to their position. They managed to ease in perfectly thanks to the hospitality of the people there. He didn't think about it much but he was interested at Spirit's Guild. It was for explorers they say. Before he knew it though, he had gone through four seasons in the village already and he grew up. Despite coming from a family who can't stay put, he seemed to be very relaxed and just watched the other pokemon play. Suddenly, Rick up and left and said that he didn't want being stuck in one place. He asked Zaru if he wanted to come but the chimchar politely declined and stayed at Valiant Village.
Another year passed after that and he finally decided to join Spirit's Guild. Although this would be his second year there, he still hasn't joined a team yet. He usually takes applications that are basic and that's why he managed to get by without a team. But he seemed keen on joining one so he can get to more explorations. Sometimes, even a laid back pokemon has the spirit of an adventurer after all.
Personality: Zaru's the type of pokemon who is very laid back. He seems to just go with the flow, and doesn't seem to think about what the future has in store for him. He is friendly and usually spends most of his time basking in the glory of sunlight while sitting on a tree branch although he likes rain too of course. He also likes watching other pokemon play around while he simply watches, not seemingly intent on joining in on the fun. It's odd that he isn't as hyperactive as pokemon his age but that's just the type of guy he is.
Although this doesn't necessarily mean you can't pump him up to go on expeditions. Actually just say the word and he'll spring to action. He won't take the lead or become one of the most hyperactive person but he will follow around and try to help as much as he can. Despite being very laid back in his free time, he's seen to still be more agile and quick than most Chimchar's out there making him quite an asset. He isn't afraid to get down and dirty and can hold himself against a real fight.
Team: Zaru does not have an established team, yet.
Moveset:

Gender: Male
Pokemon: Zorua
Backstory: Milton was raised from an egg by a Umbreon called Luna, and she's always been his mother even if she, at one point, told him that she was not. While Milton is, in general, rather curious of who his actual parents are, he always thought that they would reveal themselves if they actually wanted to see him. It hasn't been a bad thing to be adopted and he's really happy with his Umbreon mother. Milton still attends school and its classes while living in a smaller village. However he's not above sneaking off on secret explorations and has at times ended up in his share of trouble. And while liking to play pranks on fellow Pokemon, he's not known as a troublemaker.

If she's in trouble, Milton would rush to her rescue no matter what situation he was currently in.
Personality: Milton is very kind actually, even if he at times can be a prankster and play tricks on fellow Pokemon he's usually quite quick to put things right before someone get harmed in any way by his pranks. This have usually led to most Pokemon in town not taking ill when he play a prank of them, as he always apologize after wards and make it up to them if needed. His pranks are usually quite harmless to boot as he don't want to hurt anyone. Protective of allies and Pokemon in need of help, he's also slightly gullible due to trusting others rather easily.

Moveset:
Special Features: He carries a Looplet for emeras around his front left paw, and has a slight cut on his right ear.

Name: Tzerah
Gender: Female
Pokemon: Luxray
Occupation: Law Enforcement Pokémon
Backstory: She came to Valiant Village several years ago as a Luxio, covered in wounds she had gotten after a fierce battle with outlaw Pokémon. After spending many weeks in recovery she slowly started helping out just enough to get by and pay her medical bills. However, she was distant to everyone and didn’t raise a paw in anyone’s favor but her own. Years later, however, she actually came to join Spirit’s Guild after much persuasion. At this point she slowly started open up to other pokémon as they showed her friendship and teamwork.
Eventually she came to admit to them that she was, indeed, not quite innocent herself. She was in fact a run away outlaw, and the ones that had given her those wounds several years prior were in fact Pokémon she once had called ’friends’. With her past admitted, she found it surprising that these Pokémon didn’t throw her out or throw her to the ’Mightyena's’. No they accepted her as she hadn’t done anything bad for years and, after settling on a ’debt’ for her to pay off with her work, they let her live on without trouble.
At some point after that she evolved and came to join the Law Enforcement. As she tussled with some outlaw Pokémon, she felt like she finally had finally found her calling in life, and her past was way behind her. After she had settled down she fell in love and eventually had a child of her own. Nowadays that child doesn't need as much care, and she mostly focus on her work unless needed elsewhere.
Personality: Tzerah is somewhat cold towards Pokémon she doesn't know yet, and trust doesn’t come easy to her at all. She’s not one to nag unnecessarily or raise her voice unless it's the only option left. Those that know her a bit closer, however, will find that she’s quite sweet and caring, and that she’s much softer on the inside than what is most often shown on the outside.

Gender: Female
Pokémon: Mawile
Backstory: Raised in Seelie Village with other Fairy-type Pokémon, Celty lead a relatively peaceful existence throughout her childhood years. Despite having no biological relatives—as she appeared one day hatched from an egg—she has lived with a caring father-like figure, a Dedenne, up until she was old enough to strike out on her own.
As a child, she befriended a small Eevee, Lucrecia, which she grew close to. They went to school together, and did everything together. As they matured, Lucrecia eventually evolved into a Sylveon due to her strong affection towards Celty. Lucrecia founded a Rescue Team named Team Ribbon, with Celty as her partner. The two braved dangerous dungeons to help hapless Pokémon. Their team began to expand, and that's when...
Lucrecia suffered a near-fatal injury, resulting in a comatose state.
Personality: Celty, at her core, is a kind-hearted, caring individual. That said, it's clear the loss of Lucrecia has shaken her to her core.

Name: Devon
Gender: Male
Pokémon: Totodile
Backstory: As a human, Devon's life was...Adventurous? If you count getting beat up by many wild Pokémon due to misunderstandings as a child. Young Devon was always interested in Pokémon, and thought the best way to interact with them would be to befriend wilds in near his home towns of both Hearthome and Goldenrod. (His parents live apart due to work reasons, but are still in love and share Devon throughout the twelve months of the year.) His naive way of making friends via butting into the personal space of wild Pokémon angered most he came across. Thus leading to many painful injuries, and frequent hospital visits. These unfortunate events did not daunt Devon however. He continued to attempt making friends with Pokémon and eventually succeeded. Making friends with a female Starly outside of Hearthome that he named: 'Flappers'. Thought childhood the boy played with the bird for years until they grew apart due to conflicting goals. Devon became interested in becoming a Trainer, and Flappers wanted a family of her own in the wild. The two parted ways when Devon was nine years old and have yet to encounter each other again.
Just before being brought to this strange new world, Devon was a happy, sixteen year old Pokémon Trainer. Collecting the badges of both Sinnoh and Johto while travelling with his five beloved team mates. Shock the Ampharos, Cyan the Marill, Quill the Monferno, Missy the Mismagius, and Nasir the Zoroark.
Personality: Devon is an outgoing used-to-be-teen who is very social between small groups, but cannot handle being the centre of attention in a large crowd. He’s quick to make friends, mostly leaning towards those with the same light hearted attitude as him. Though he can adapt to others of a different mindset with little time. Devon is patient, but does have his limits for things like long journeys with no excitement or stubborn Pokémon. His temper may seem almost non-existent, but do not be fooled. He is relatively good at hiding anger thanks to him seeing his father's stern expression not change for sixteen years. That has been helpful in many situations such as dealing with childhood bullies. He may seem distant at first, but he does feel a sense of purpose to help others. Going out of his way to do so. He is competitive, taking offence to challenges and accepting them with little thought in the moment that sometimes lead him to misfortune. Due to being around others for most of his life, Devon is also bothered by being alone for long periods of time.
Team: Devon does not have an established team, yet.

Special Features: His back spikes are a light brown instead of the normal red, and his irises are a deep brown. Reflections of his former self.
Memories: When he first awakens, Devon will know literally nothing. Confused and in a daze for a bit before he regains his composure, he will then begin to remember powerful memories bit by bit. First will be his name, then his human status, then slowly he will rediscover fond memories of friends, family, and the past.

Name: Gredy
Gender: Male
Pokemon: Eevee
Backstory: As he grew up, Pokemon around got to know the outgoing little eevee and his adventure lust; If you asked him nicely, he would help out with any task happily, turning it into an adventure of some kind (Building and painting a fence became a mission to build and hide a secret base with top secret spy paint right under everyone's noses!).
Now that he has grown up and entered adulthood, Gredy has full intention of joining the guild and finding a place on an explorer's team, if not make one himself.
Personality: Gredy as long awaited the day when he would be old enough to venture out into the world and see what it had to offer; Even as a small pup it was easy to see that he would one day be an explorer, wondering off and getting stuck in strange places, pretending that he was exploring some forgotten tomb filled with treasures.
Coming of age has only strengthened his desire to travel the world and meet new Pokemon and see new places, but despite the almost painful desire to get out there already, he wants to find someone in town to travel with first; The company was half the fun of the adventure and it didn't hurt to have someone you trusted to watch your back if things got rough.

Name: Valentine
Gender: Male
Pokemon: Haunter
Backstory: Valentine's first memories of his unlife were his name and species. He was "born" in an abandoned mansion, untouched by anyone for decades. His first few days were spent wandering around the mansion, trying to find someone who could tell him what was going on. His first few weeks were spent accepting the fact that he had died somehow, and his memory was gone forever. His first few months was spent leaving the mansion to find a purpose to his existence. His first year ended with him finding a small village of Ghost types like him, apparently it was common to wake up in that mansion, other Ghosts called it "The Dead Birthing Ground". Valentine got used to "life" in the village, making friends with locals and carving out his new place in the world. They were his family. He was happy, no memories needed.
Until one day they were attacked. An elite team of Dark types called "The Dark Riders" attacked the village, taking everything they could find and killing anyone who got in their way. Valentine tried to stop them, and he fought well for someone who had never fought before. But the Dark Riders were relentless, he was only able to scar one of them before they took him down. They knocked him out, when he awoke, there was nothing left. They had left him alive, but alone. His grief triggered his evolution into a Haunter and on that day he made a vow. He would find the Dark Riders and eradicate them like they eradicated his family.
Valentine traveled the world for years, becoming stronger, terrorizing local pokemon for info, trailing the Dark Riders. He stole anything he believed could help him, money, seeds, scarves, he built up quite the arsenal by the time his third year of revenge seeking rolled around. When he found them, it was all too easy to take them out. Valentine slaughtered them, calling out the names of those they had killed. He had achived his revenge, bringing justice to his family's murderers.
But in the end, he didn't feel happy about it. Valentine searched their bodies and found out the truth about the eradication of his family. Valentine was the only pokemon in that village who was innocent, the rest had been wanted criminals. From murder to robbery to assault, everyone had done something, resulting in all of their eventual deaths. He had avenged his friends, but at what cost? Was it right to have done what he did? Did his crusade for "justice" turn him into what he had hated most? He would have a long time to ponder these things as he became a wandering mercenary, doing anything for food and money.
Personality: Valentine is a jaded individual, having no faith in pokemon and believing that all pokemon are inherently bad. When he's hired, he will do anything to complete his job. Rarely lets emotions cloud his judgement, completes tasks with detachment. His one bit of morality he has held onto though, is he refuses to kill. Hard to make friends with, those who find themselves in his favor will find a steady and loyal friend.
Team: Valentine does not have an established team, yet.

Name: Hat
Gender: Female
Pokemon: Snorunt
Backstory: Hat was born somewhere cold, in the middle of a group of Sneasel. She had been found, still in her egg, abandoned in a ruined building. They, thinking a little kid to look after sounded like loads of fun, wound up hatching her a month or so after being found. The Sneasel were delighted to see the baby Snorunt in her little hat, and immediately decided to name her exactly that, Hat.
As months passed, they took her on their various adventures, exploring all sorts of fun places, like cities, caverns, castles, and more. It was always very exciting, and they were always very happy at the end of it. Eventually, when she’d grown to the point of being able to talk and recognize evil monsters, they decided to put her to use, usually as a lookout. She was pretty good at being a lookout!
After a few years of this treatment, she started to get her own little personality. She started to grow envious of the pretty treasures that the others would get at the end of their adventures, and often stole little things from the loot before they were distributed. She was usually caught, and subsequently punished by Sney, the one in charge of looking after her most of the time. She didn’t learn not to steal, though. She just learned not to get caught.
After an even longer period of time, she started to be asked to be put into more active roles on the team. By now, she knew that they weren’t usually actually exploring abandoned castles and towns to defeat evil monsters and earn all the treasure they got. Rather, they were exploring, raiding, and looting fully populated castles and towns for all the wealth of the Pokemon within. Most of the time, anyway.
Somehow, this didn’t really bother her. The Pokemon had stuff that they wanted, so they took it. It felt natural to take things from the weak and inattentive when they weren’t looking. The sneasels agreed.
Years more of this sort of life, Hat was a proper adult. She could take care of herself, fend for herself, and provide for others. She was a functional member of Team Windchill, and treated the rest of the team like family.
The rest of the team, though, was getting older. They were getting slower, weaker, and slipping up more. The leader, Weave, attributed this to sloppiness, and drilled them for discipline. Everyone, though, knew that it was just age. They had to retire, soon.
Eventually, Weave brought an idea to the team. They didn’t really have the money to retire, and there were many, many bounties out for most of the team. They couldn’t just settle down somewhere. Instead, he said, they should pull off one big, last heist, to get all the wealth they could need for the rest of their lives.
The place was a Kecleon storehouse, well-hidden and guarded. They would sneak in during the night of a blizzard, steal all the most valuable things they could, and escape before they were even detected.
That was the plan, and the plan failed. Somewhere along the line, one of the sneasel was spotted, and the whole guard force was brought to bear. The entire half of the team responsible for going inside was captured, fortunately not including Hat, who was on lookout once more. The half of the team that escaped split, mutually agreeing that sticking together was just a good way to get identified. Hat, for the first time in her life, is now alone.
Alone and wandering the cold forests of the north, she eventually came upon a town. There wasn’t anything exceptional about it, other than that it was currently host to a team of explorers. After being inadvertently forced into a conversation with them, she learned of the faraway Valiant Village, where she could likely get enough money from the guild’s own pile of loot to live off of. Lacking money or a better plan, Hat decided to make her way over.
It’s been a month of slow travelling since then, but she’s finally arrived at the outskirts of the town.
Personality: Greedy and sneaky enough to try to steal from a Kecleon, but cowardly enough not to. A small, petty criminal of the lowest caliber, always careful to ensure she does not get caught. Dishonorable, rude, and only diligent when it comes to feeding her lust for wealth.
Gregarious only when she wants something, quiet at all other times. Avoids conflict.

Name: Kargool

Pokemon: Vanillite
Backstory: Kargool is a Vanillite from a faraway town, where his rescue team hit the ranks fast. He fondly cared for all of his team, but later grew ambitious and brought it to his co-leaders that he wanted to create a second team far away, where nobody really knew him. His co-leaders, sad that he would be leaving, understood his desires and sent him off to form another team, which brings him to the current town.
Personality: Kargool is hardworking and intelligent, knowing what moves work the best on certain Pokemon, and normally has a strong sense of self-good. The issue is he's normally awkward when it comes to conversation, and trips over his words / repeats them.
