I know, I know, I know. I'm already running four roleplays, all of which are weird-fantasy with a strong nature-vs-technology conflict and a misfits-save-the-world mentality. Why the hell would I make another, almost identical roleplay?
Because I can and I like it so nyeh!
PLOT SORT OF
Your character lives in the low-tech village of Heron. That's the floating island. It's a peaceful island, it's a beautiful island, and it's boring as all hell. Sure, you've grown up learning to watch your step, and there are hang-glider tournaments almost every week, but nothing ever happens.
Until, one night, a star falls out of the sky and crashes in the distance.
The villagers say a fallen star will grant any wish to whoever finds it.
The old childless King (because every floating island should have its own kind-yet-morose king, of course!) has declared that he will choose among those who return with the star, and will declare the new heir to the throne.
(What, this sounds like the plot of Stardust? Whatever gave you that idea?)
So now a bunch of characters are taking up their gliders and heading for the ground below, possibly for the first time. How thrilling! What adventure! So wow! Cue Alice-in-Wonderland intro music.

WHAT TO EXPECT
I'm going to be really honest with you: I just want an excuse to throw trippy-as-hell hyper-fantasy into an RP. Just expect weird shit, ok? If you're still onboard, here's where we're going:
The plot and subplot will focus on mystery, lies, secrets, conflicting beliefs, puzzles, folklore, ancient mythos, exploration and a bit of philosophy. The story will be VERY fast-paced if all goes well. Expect a lot of danger, a lot of running, a lot of potential for new powers and allies and tools and weapons and pieces to the overarching puzzle. At endgame, I want your sheltered innocent character to have developed into a cape-flowing, eye-glowing, magic-wielding, world-saving badass. This is the story of how your character gets there.
I'll be making it up as we go. The plot -- the world-ending, epic, amazing plot that ties everything together (the floating island, the star, the oddities in the forest below, the caverns, the creatures, the golems and giants) -- will take shape as the characters move forward. This means that the plot is entirely dependent on how your characters interact with the world.
WHAT I EXPECT FROM YOU
This is your character's origin story. Starting out, they're just a sheltered bumpkin, thrilled for a new adventure or being dragged along on one, away from warm beds and hot meals. They're armed only with stories or a dinky sword at best, completely unprepared for basically everything. It's up to you as the player to create a character who can and will take note of what is happening around them and will come to their own conclusions -- who can and will take interest in what they see and hear, and will take an active role in creating their own story as they go.
There's a style of roleplaying in which the player takes a passive role and waits to be told what to do, and that's just fine -- I'm telling you now that if this is your style, you're probably going to be frustrated with my style of GMing. I want your character to tell me what I should focus on. When your character focuses on something, that's my cue to make that something very important to the plot and to your character. If your character thinks something is important, it will therefore be important.
So. Anyone wanna come play a cliche shonen hero story?
