Ace Makovich - Diner
Ace saw Brandy and Frieda take off to the bathroom together, “What are they doing, you do know the bathroom is small right? Meant for 1 person at the time?” They hadn’t heard him and in they went. He shook his head, and got back to the cleaning the grill.

Celeste told him how she was on her way to Diamond City, “An amazing city by Commonwealth standards. I lived there for a bit when I moved to area. But, It felt too crowded, and to enclosed. Here, I can just lay on my roof and listen to the waves crash against the cliffs. It’s certainly nicer.”

“As far as the cooking goes my wif-…ex-wife had taught me too cook, though we didn’t have Radstag out west. I must admit I’m still learning the fine tools of the trade. Plus, thanks to Tom’s regular caravan, I can get resupplied with no problems.”

She asked what his name was and he responded as he looked up from cleaning the grill, “Name’s Ace Makovich, as you see this here is my humble establishment. As far as I can see everyone in town is friendly, except for that grump there,”

He pointed towards Barney who reciprocated by balling up a piece of paper and throwing it at him, “Like I said, watch out for him”

Brandy and Frieda returned from the bathroom and they both sat down and she asked for another beer as she pursed his lip. Ace looked at her a bit dumbfounded. Did she just blow me a kiss? He shook his head. Nah, I’m just imagining things.
“I dunno if a slender girl like you should be drinking so much,” Ace said as he popped another beer and placed it in front of her, “But who am I to say no to a paying customer.” He opened the door to the cellar and headed down to get some more beer.

Brandy was flushed and she tried to explain herself. Ace just laughed and continued sipping his whiskey. Ace stared at Rook as he drank the beer, Brandy had given him. Ace found the idea of giving a Super Mutant alcohol to be foolish. Who knows how they'd react or if it'd bring about rage.

Brandy grabbed a napkin and wiped beer from face and hands. Ace grabbed a rag and wiped down the counter as her beer had spread, "Please say it, don't spray it."

As he cleaned the counter, someone new walked in. He grabbed a large tin jar, and filled it with water and handed it to Rook. She introduced herself as Celeste and asked for some stew. She informed everyone she was new operator of the Inn. He prepared a bowl and placed it before her, "Well how is it possible i havent seen such a lovely face before? Welcome to our little town."

He looked at over at Brandy who kept looking back and him, and he winked at her. Before, he could antagonize her further, another newcomer arrived and sat at counter, "Howdy, tell the cook I'll take a side of beef, some vegetables for me, a few for Bessie," He hiked a hand out the window behind him to the Brahmin, "and give me a cold glass of milk please."

Ace nodded and headed over to the fridge and pulled some brahmin meet out. He lit the grill and threw the meat on it after seasoning it. He grabbed a milk bottle and poured him a glass, this was his last bottle of milk and would need to get some more in the morning. He took a wooden crate with vegetables and placed it by the man, "Here are some vegetables for your brahmin."

He returned to the grill and once it was to the mans liking, he served it to him. He had asked about housing, "Well quite a few places are available throughout town. Some of them require work. We also have an inn by entrance of town. Also, save yourself bullets, if you see this here mutant," he pointed at rook, "do not shoot, he's allegedly friendly."

Rook asked him how much for the meat, “Since Barney here, and all everyone else is claiming you’re building some sort of wall, you can have the radstag for free, as payment for your work. If you insist on paying, I’ll take 10 caps for the molerat.”

The doctor had left with the Steve fella, perhaps someone had overdosed at his “pleasure” den. Ace continued to clean the counter, when someone asked for a beer. Brandy tugged at Ace’s shirt like a child, and introduced the woman named Frieda to Ace. He grabbed an ice cold Gwinnet Stout, popped it open and handed it to her.

The Commonwealth was lucky that the Minutemen had captured the Gwinnett Brewery and handed it over to merchants. They were now providing everyone with an easily available, “fresh” product. “It’s supposed to be from the new batches being made at the brewery.” Ace said, “Thanks to the minutemen, we may start to see some semblance of normalcy.”

Ace grabbed a cigarette from under the counter and lit it. He took a seat on a stool and poured himself some whiskey. It had been a long day, but luckily it was paying off with all this business. He looked over to Tom, “Can you bring in the provisions I ordered? I’m starting lo run low on razorgrain.”

“Plenty of razorgrain available got everything you wanted from your list except Tarberries. Wiseman at The Slog, said they need a few more days before they are ready with their shipments. Need to ripen more.” Tom said as he slid over next to Frieda and extended his amr to her, “Thomas Beauregard Sykes the III, entrepreneur extraordinary, purveyor of wares far and wide. I do not believe I’ve had the pleasure of gazing upon such graceful flower before. You’re beauty surely lights up this bleak and sad wasteland.”

Brandy slipped behind the counter and took out three beers. She pooped them and placed one in front of Rook, Frieda and herself. She took the three caps and dropped them into Ace’s pocket, “There ya go.” She returned to her stool and raises her bottle, “To new friends and a new home, CHEERS !!!”

“You know brandy, you tug at my belt, put your hand in my pocket…Call me old fashioned but some guys like to be wined and dined before they get this far,” Ace said with a smirk as he sipped on his whiskey, “I’m not just a piece of meat you know.”

The doctor pushed the caps back towards Ace, and told him he had nothing to worry about. The demeanor on his face was serious, and Ace decided to accept him at his word so as not to offend him. This meant he would be able to use these caps for his project. He placed bag behind the counter and went about cleaning the top with a rag.

The patrons were talking about what Super Mutants ate. The doctor spoke up "Oh well… Actually...while the mutants might normally, um, prefer the taste of human meat. They certainly don't have to have it. They're quite happy with a variety of different meat types, animal or otherwise. I suspect the creature will be able to feed himself quite well given the variety of local fauna around here. 'Rad-stags' and 'Mirelurks' I think they're called seem to be quite common around Salem."

As he cleaned the counter, the room fell silent. Ace looked up and there stood the mutant in his diner. “Rook is here to buy meat. Does Cooker Man have radstag? Or maybe man has found something better? Brahmin meats?” The mutant grinned. “Rook has caps and small things to trade, if Cooker Man is open to that as well. Rook is hungry, and building wall takes so much energy.”

Ace was quiet for a bit as mutants just stood there. Brandy offered the cigarettes and other help in exchange for food. He was moving until Barney cleared his throat, “Yeah…Umm…that should be more than enough…” Ace cleared his throat, and opened the hatch to the cellar and headed down. He had always been taught in the brotherhood, to attack a super mutant on sight, yet here stood one before him and he did nothing.

He walked over to his bed and opened the drawer on the corner table. He looked at the plasma defender in the drawer, and hesitantly grabbed it, check to make sure it was loaded and tucked into his back side. His little 10mm pistol might not be enough if something went down.

He went over to the freezer and looked over the meat. He had chopped the second radstag into quarters. He figured a quarter ought to be enough, if not, he had molerat to offer. He wrapped the meat in some plastic and headed back upstairs.

“here’s some radstag, hope it’s enough for you… I also have some molerat, if you like.” Ace said to the mutant as he placed the meat on a table close to the mutant. He turned to Brandy with a smirk, “I’m sure I could find a task or two for you to do..”

Barney groaned, “Hey Romeo, another shot of whiskey over here.”

Ace winked at her as he turned, he walked back and poured Barney another drink. He grabbed an old suitcase that was sitting atop the fridge. It was bit heavy as it was partially filled with old military grade circuit boards. He placed the bag of caps inside it, sealed it and locked it with a key.

He motioned for Tom to come over, “Get this to your courier, I need this delivered to Vault 81 ASAP to you know who. It’s important it gets there as quickly as possible.”

Tom nodded, “I’ll make sure my courier at Finch Farm gets this on a direct barge at Bunker hill, and that it gets delivered to Mr. Grey. Don’t let me remind you that expedited delivery is pricey.”

Ace grabbed a wooden case and handed it to Tom, “12 quantum colas as agreed. Along with 12 bottles of vodka.”

Tom nodded happily and handed the suitcase to one of the guards. He immediately set off, "Don't worry he'll get it to the barge tonight."

Ace was cleaning one of the empty tables when the doctor walked in. He took a seat on the far corner stool, "Um, excuse me, Mr. Makovich? Could I just get a regular Nuka Cola? If its not too much trouble."

Ace smiled, "Mr Makovich was my dad, just call me Ace." Ace headed over to the fridge and picked up a cold Nuka Cola bottle and placed it in front of the doctor along with a clean cup, "It's on the house doc. You sure you don't want anything else? We have radstag stew, noodles, and um... freshly baked Mutfruit Pie? It's all pretty good."

The doctor looked deep in thought, so Ace stepped away, so as to not disturb him. Steve was talking to Tom and his group, “Pttf...These Gunner morons have nothing compared to the Talon Company, Took all of the Brotherhood Tin-can forces, enclave tech and a surprise attack to take us out... these losers? Get beaten by a bunch of farmers playing dress up.”

Ace nodded his head in disagreement, "Don't underestimate these Minutemen. Don't forget whom their leader is, he along with those farmers took down the Institute. Plus, have you been to the Red Rocket Outpost outside Sanctuary? damn place looks like a fortress, tall concrete walls, ton of turrets. That shows they are serious now on their goal to protect Commonwealth. by expanding away from The Castle"

Ace walked back to the stew, which was simmering, and lowered the heat a bit more. After all he didn't want it to burn. The smell that rose from stew wafted across the diner and it was quite pleasant. Steve asked for a bowl and Nuka cola dark. Ace handed him a bowl, and then went down into the cellar. He rummaged through one of the crates downstairs and found a bottle. While he was downstairs, he headed over to his closet a grabbed a bag, and headed upstairs.

He handed Steve the bottle, and told him it was 50 caps. After all, Nuka Cola Dark was not easy to find. He was about to walk over to the doctor, when Lorelei asked him a question, "So -- let's say, hypothetically, that a girl like me wanted to lend her talents to the town's militia. Would Barney be the guy to chat with?"

Ace nodded, "As long as you can shoot a gun, that old codger will take on anyone."

Lorelei finished her milkshake. "That...was...surprisingly...perfect? I'll want another, next time I come round." She pushed her glass to the edge of the counter, and Ace grabbed it an put it in a sink.

As he was to walk over to the doctor again, Brandy stepped into the diner a made a rather brash announcement, "Ace, Rook is coming for dinner, do you have enough food for him? I just wanted to let you know, I'm going to go and wait for him to get here. OH, and I have a .22 pistol and aren't afraid to use it if anybody tries to hurt him. You need to look into his eyes, then you will see he really is friendly."

Before he could answer, it seemed to have thrown Shelby into a fit as she was saying pretty much what he was thinking or pretty much everyone was thinking. Waylon tried to calm Shelby to no avail and she left. Ace turned to Brandy, "You can't just go announcing something like so brashly Brandy. I have food, if he needs it, but I'm only letting him in because Barney said he we should give him a chance."

Ace reached toward his holster, and turned the safety off on his pistol. He wanted to be ready just in case, and he was sure pretty much everyone else in the room did the same. He stood in front of the doctor and placed the bag he had brought up from downstairs on the side not visible from the rest of the diners. He leaned in, tapped the bag and whispered to the doctor, "I'm hoping we can keep what you saw on my arm to yourself."

The radstag stew was nearly ready. Ace chopped up some additional carrots and threw them into the pot. As he allowed it to simmer, he checked the oven for the mutfruit pies he was baking. He turned to look at the crowd forming in the diner, it was clear to him he would most likely need to hire a helping hand, if more people arrived to town.

He opened the cellar door that was located behind the counter and headed downstairs. He grabbed one of the skinned mole rats to back upstairs. He also grabbed a couple bottles of whiskey and headed back upstairs. He placed the Molerat in the meat freezer, when he saw Shelby and Waylon walk into the diner. He put the whiskey down, grabbed two clean cups and filled them with purified water.

“What’s up Ace? Heard you actually got something a little different on the menu?” Shelby quietly slid by and plopped down into a corner booth, she traced figured eights on the cleaned up tabletop.

He walked over to the booth and placed the water in front of them, “Well I see you’re back from your trip Shelby, I don’t see Brandy with you, what’d you do kill her and dump her body on the way?”

Ace laughed and headed back to the kitchen area, grabbed two bowls and spoons. He filled the bowls and walked back over to Shelby and Waylon, and placed the bowls down, “Here ya go, some radstag stew, pretty good if I say so myself. Have other stuff, but I recommend this, maybe I’ll even let you have some pie, if you behave” Ace smirked as he said that.

The music on the jukebox Cut-off, and Travis came on the radio, “Ladies and gentlemen, Diamond City Radio has some breaking news for you... hold on to your hats... We are receiving various reports of a large scale battle taking place near the Mass Bay Medical Center. Long suspected to be a Gunner’s stronghold, the Minutemen have launched an incursion to take the building. Per our reports, large explosions have been seen and heard in the area along with the continuous sound of gunfire. If taken this ought to further secure the main old highway and provide a safe direct route to Goodneighbor from The Castle, thus further securing the Boston area for safe travel. Diamond City Radio promises to bring you any updates on this story as soon as we can. Keep it tuned here, folks, to Diamond City Radio.”

The radio returned to playing music. Ace smiled, “Well seems like the Minutemen are keeping themselves busy.”

Tom turned to Lorelei and sat down next to her once the radio had finished, “Well, this other Tom fella sounds like quite a specimen. We Toms do tend to be charming and rugged.” He spun around and turned to Ace, “How bout two fingers of whiskey for a weary traveler?”

“If anyone was weary, it’d be that overworked Brahmin of yours, having to put up with you all day long.” Ace said as he made his way behind the counter and poured Tom a drink.

“Some of us would like to eat before we starve to death,” Barney said as he puffed on his pipe waiting for his food.

“I’m pretty sure Father time will get to you before you starve,” Ace quipped as he stirred a large pot of radstag meat and various vegetables.

As they talked, there was a loud bang as the door to diner slammed open. Ace turned around to see what was happening but before he knew it, he was pushed out of the way as an armed man barged into the open kitchen. He opened the window and pointed his gun to what looked like to be a mutant.

“What the hell is going on here?” Barney asked as he stood up and prepped his rifle.

“I tell you what’s going on,” Tom said as he shut off the loud jukebox. As he turned it off, the sound of chopping wood and clattering could be heard coming from behind the diner. “You got a greenskin behind here readying for an attack!”

“You nearly gave me a heart attack. That there mutant is friendly and means no harm,” Barney replied. As he was talking, a customer walked in as he talked to one of the caravan guards.

Ace turned to the man in his kitchen area and glared at him, “Do you mind? I’d like to finish cooking and you’re in my way.”

The new man walked up to the counter “speaking of which Ace isn’t it? God only knows when it last ate or what it eats so what do you have for sale? Start with the Vegetables.... Any Melons or carrots? Bound to have something it likes...”

Ace leaned over and looked out the window, seeing the creature outside, “That’s a horse. They are extremely rare… What is one doing out east? I only ever saw one out west and it was dying.” He squatted and grabbed a box of vegetables; he grabbed the carrots and handed them to the man, “Carrots ought to work, 5 caps each.”

As he talked a woman walked into the diner, “Calm yourselves. The mutant is not hostile. His name is ‘Rook’ and he’s harvesting materials to help build a barrier. I watched him work this afternoon, myself.” She glared at Tom, and pushed past the rest of the group. She sat down on one of the barstools and locked eyes with Ace.

Lorelei turned her head slightly sideways and furrowed her brow at Ace. “What does a girl have to do around here to get her hands on a strawberry milkshake?” She peered over at Steve and Barney and lazily bowed her head in greeting. "Nice place you've got, by the way."

“I don’t have strawberries, hard to get out here. But I do have plenty of Mutfruits, I can make a shake out of that for 20 caps.” Ace said as he walked over to the fridge and grabbed milk and the fruit. He heard her say 15, he rolled his eyes and shrugged his shoulders in agreement.

“So Barney, I take it I’m going to have to add this particular mutant to the targeting computer as a friendly? Won’t be easy considering almost all those freaks look similar.” Ace said as he started to prepare the ingredients. He walked over to the blender and put some milk chopped murtfruit, a little ice into a blender. He opened a cupboard and pulled out a blackened container. Inside of it was a finely granulated substance that once went by the name of sugar. It was a rare substance, and he didn’t want others seeing it so he kept it hidden.

He made sure to block it from everyone’s view and added a small scoop of it to the shake. he turned on the old blender and mixed up the ingredients. The old blender had been a pain to fix, especially sharpening the small blades.

He grabbed a clean cup and poured the contents of the blender into it, with plenty left for another 2 shakes. He handed her the drink, and went back to stirring the stew. As he stirred he heard Tom approach the woman, he leaned on the counter and tipped his hat at her, “Well hello young lady. Name is Thomas Beauregard Sykes the III, entrepreneur extraordinary, purveyor of wares far and wide. What might your lovely name be?”
