Miki
Personal dossier
Name:
Miki Teruko

三木輝子
Age:
15
Origin:
Aomori, Aomori prefecture, Japan
Physical description:
Standing at a magnificent 5”1 or 156 cm, Miki never quite hit the growth spurt she wanted, though that never bothered her. Her posture isn’t petite, but it definitely isn’t sturdy either. She just sits in that comfortable middle-range caused by the occasional work-out followed by a good meal. Miki has the stature of a girl in a foreign country, which she has her naive nature to thank for. Mostly seen with a curious or satisfied look on her face, She stumbles through the day in comfy yet stylish clothes. Her parents always tailor her baggy clothes to fit, or at least to be sensible, and to be honest, Miki likes the style; she hates accessories though.

Personal history:
Being the only daughter of the Teruko family, Miki had the full attention of her parents for the duration of her childhood. The father had plenty of time as he worked an office job from home while the mother stood in front of a class of elementary children.
In her early years, Miki was known as incredibly timid and curious. Her teacher often found her quietly escaping the class and going off on adventures. There was no end to her thirst for discovery and it got to the point where she became lost for entire days. Her teachers tried to get her paying attention to class but there was always something more interesting to do or see. After lengthy discussions between Miki’s parents and the school board, it was decided that Miki would be homeschooled. Her mother, being a teacher, would educate Miki on all things important and when mom went to school, Dad remained with Miki for the remainder of the day. This way Miki would be allowed to learn at her own pace in a controlled environment as she tended to pay closer attention to her parents. But with such an isolated lifestyle, problems were bound to show up.
As expected of any kid stuck at home, Miki began to grow restless. She held on for a while, but eventually something began to gnaw at her to wake up and get out there. She had already learned to control her impulsiveness and she felt like she was ready for more. It took some convincing but not a month later, Miki was introduced to a new school. She was very excited to rejoin society but being removed from people for so long had left her naive. She had no social skills whatsoever and without it, making friends was a task as big as climbing mt. Fuji. She tried many times, and failed many more. Her curious nature didn't allow her to stop, though her interest did shift over time.
Miki's mind became drawn from the struggles of reality to the online world. An infinite amount of knowledge to gain was perfect for a curious girl like her. She learned and experienced everything that came across the screen, and then she found a site ranking the top heroes of Japan. To Miki, it seemed like a fairytale out of a children’s book. They talked about heroes fighting villains and keeping the country safe, but villains weren’t real to her. She had never felt fear or struggle against the odds, and in the safety of her home, these heroes seemed like a dream.
Many nights were filled with adventures of the great Miki fighting cartoon villains in obnoxious ways and the fantasy grew so much so, that it became an actual goal to reach; a dream to attain.
She had never paid much attention to her quirk as it just got in the way of her daily life. But after realising that she would need it to become an actual hero, she looked to her father for advice. His first reaction was shock as Miki had never seemed remotely interested in the job. Yet it was her dream and as any father, he wanted her to reach that dream, so he began teaching her how to control her quirk.
Time flew as Miki learned to hone her abilities and after many months of rigorous work, there was nothing that her father could teach her; it was time to find a new teacher. She applied to any school that would take her, including the one and only Ishin Academy.
Character development & conceptualization:
Miki is naive, like really naive. Her identity is limited to what she has learned at home, and the cultureshock of going out into the real world will have a big impact on her. To have a character so blatantly innocent and wrong about the world be forced to face it. How do you handle it? Will you stay true to yourself or be forced to change? I'd like to see where she ends up.
Miki has a lot of things to learn. She has no social skills but is driven and kind. If her childish curiosity remains unchecked, you could see her walking into a villain's den by accident. If the wrong people end up teaching her the wrong things, who's to say she wouldn't unknowingly become a villain?
Lastly, her dream is flawed. She wishes to become a hero because it looks fun. But what happens when your dream is no longer fun? Can you persevere? She will have to find a real reason to become a hero, and risk becoming corrupted in the progress.
I always like to experiment with new characters that differ from previous, and Miki is no exception. Miki is a way for me to take a shot at the overly naive character, with plenty of character development to go through.

Abilities & Talents
Quirk type:
Emitter
Quirk description:
[Mime] The user of the quirk is surrounded by 6 invisible square shaped forcefields, all about 1.5 meters in height and width. These ‘plates’ are about an inch thick but as sturdy as metal. Miki can move and rotate these plates individually on all axes within a 5 meter radius as if part of her body. When the plates go beyond the 5 meter radius, they just slowly float back to Miki in a straight line and she can't control them until are returned. Much like a muscle, the speed and strength with which the plates move is dependent on her development of the quirk, and the amount of weight that the plates can support is also based on her own strength, although amplified.
As the plates are invisible, their location is unknown to all but Miki, who can sense their presence, although the edges still sometimes bump into things. Things like water, dust and paint stick to its surface though, revealing their location though. When idle Miki likes to have them float above her head or behind her back as to not get in the way of anything. They fit together quite nicely to form a cube too.

Other talents & attributes:
Antisocial butterfly: Being isolated for most of her childhood, Miki has not had the pleasure of learning common school etiquette and her speech and general handling of others will be quite tailored to what her parents taught her.
Unfiltered honesty: In addition to her trouble communicating effectively, her upbringing has left social ques and several norms out out of the picture, and the result is a girl who will say what she thinks whenever she thinks.
Trivia jockey: Her time sifting the web has left her with a stupid amount of useless information that might come in handy in unlikely situations.
