Per had, naturally, spent the downtime after the mission daydreaming about some unnamed person. At least until his roommate came up and decided it'd be a good idea to terrorize her some more. After charring the hallway, she stormed off to the kitchen to grab some food and then hide out for a while in the sauna. It was somewhere between heating her soup by hand and when her pulse finally died down from the scare minutes before that the call came in. Per took it and said backup would be there soon, and then raced up the stairs to find Orren and the rest of the team. Within minutes they were all suited up and heading out.

The second they rounded the corner, Per froze. "No, no, no..." She backed up, her head shaking. "Oh hell no." This had to be some sort of sick joke. It had to be. There was no way this was real. No way. The entire street was drowning in ice. It covered everything, icicles hanging from ledges and snow swept to the sides where something had dug into the ice. It looked like it had been thrown around at random by some insane interior decorator. It gave off frigid air in waves and it was sneering at her with it's shiny teeth and Persephone didn't think it could get any worse until she spotted Fallout and the villain before him. She didn't need to see the ice coming from him to know he was the last person she ever wanted to see. Just the sight of him, covered completely by thick warm clothing, told her he had known to prepare for this - that he had caused this.

More than anything, she wanted to turn and run. Maybe scream a little as she went. Definitely lock herself in the sauna and refuse to leave until the sight of this scene was burned from her mind. But she knew a few things. One - she was the only one in the team of justice who could melt ice and resist being frozen for a little while. Two - the man had just hacked at Fallout, and resistant as his armor was, the look of the ice surrounding him was more than sinister. Three - the guy of her dreams, literally, was standing right next to her and now only did she want to seem impressive, but she knew if she tried to back out he would only look at her with those sapphire eyes and she would agree to do it no matter how much she didn't want to. So, she snuck a glance at Orren and then turned back to the scene and steeled herself. It was ice, but she was fire. She'd be okay. They needed her help. She could do this - Firefly could do this.

She stepped forward, starting to push out heat. Her feet radiated out through her boots and where she stepped, crystals turned to puddles. Her fingers wiggled and then dissolved into flames, and she moved further forward over the ice until she was close enough. She only had a few chances to do this before she would be considered a larger threat than who she was trying to save. In one fluid movement, her arms twirled and her body twisted and a rush of fire rushed forward through the air. It hit the ice covering Fallout, and before it had complete chance to dissipate another wave followed it. Spurts flew at the ice in rapid succession, rolling waves of flames beginning to melt the ice prison.

She barely looked up when Orren snarled back at Collin. She was more than accustomed to his bark now, and it didn't bother her one bit. Maybe that was because she was rarely on the opposite end of it, but that was because she never expected or demanded anything from him. She knew him well enough to know when he wanted feedback and when he wanted a yes sir, and she gave him it wholeheartedly. Besides, most of the time the other person had barked first, and that was their fault.

At the sound of her name, Per perked up. It was an uncontrollable reaction - it just sounded so perfect on his lips. Staring, it took her an extra second to process what he had said and by the time she had it figured out he had put on his mask and his eyes were two shining rubies. Go on the mission with him? Hell fucking yeah. She looked at him with an excitement as though he had proposed marriage. "Yeah! Sure!" she exclaimed, taking a step towards the door and then freezing. She was still wearing her tee shirt and shorts - not something she was ready to fight crime in. "One second," she added, and, with a wide circle around Dylan, raced out of the room. Within a minute she had stripped and thrown on her super suit, slid on her mask, and ran back to the kitchen. "Let's go!"

They sped to meet up with the chase. The villains were headed east down Main, and the two heroes took a different route than the police in an attempt to cut off the car. But they were two seconds too late, and ended up right behind it. Per turned to Orren from the passenger seat. "See how close you can get, I can try to burn out his tires and engine."
When she reached the kitchen door, Per could hear Orren talking to someone. It was strange, being on the team with them. They had been so great together as kids, but she couldn't help but feel her move still stood between them. She had just up and left, right when he needed her. She tried not to bring it up - she felt guiltier about that than anything else. She wanted to lapse back into their friendship from before, when they knew what the other was thinking just by saying one word. But a lot had happened in eleven years. They had both changed, for better or worse, and now their friendship seemed to have a completely different language. New letters, new words, new variables. The only things that still seemed present were themselves, and the feeling she got around him. That, despite time, had not changed. His voice still sent electricity through her veins, and just seeing him have her butterflies.

And then, of course, there was how he looked. Time had not been cruel to him. His awkward thirteen-year-old body had filled out more than nicely. When she entered the kitchen, she got a magnificent view of just how much he did have now. God, if she could only be his super suit and get to hug him in all the right places.

He found his pan and straightened and, realizing she was starting to drool, Persephone turned into the pantry. It looked like breakfast was going to be eggs and steak and whatever else Takeshi had cooked this morning. Per grabbed the bread and pulled a piece from the bag before setting it back on it's shelf. She toasted it in her hand and moved back into the kitchen, buttering it and then making herself a cup of coffee, which she immediately downed. By then some eggs were ready and she took a few on a plate. She set everything down and grabbed the empty mug and turned and-

Aaahhhh! Per dropped her mug and fell backwards against the kitchen counter, screaming violently. Her body shook with terror. All she had done was turn around, and then he had just been right there, inches away, staring down at her with that fucking creepy smile. There were no such things as monsters under the bed, Per knew that. But monsters a few rooms down from you? Dylan was living proof that was true. This happened all the time. He would sneak up on her and she would freak out uncontrollably. Thankfully, the rest of the house had caught on quick to not give her anything breakable if Dylan was in the area. The mug she had dropped at the sight of his face was plastic, and had just bounced a little and rolled away. When she managed to catch her breath, she looked around warily. Usually, when he scared her this bad, something lit on fire. Flames caught the corner of her eye, and she found the mug that had fallen and rolled away burning in the corner. "Shit," she said, scrambling over to grab it and put it out. By the time she got there the top had melted, and she let out a groan of frustration before throwing it out. No more coffee for her today. First she couldn't sleep, then Dylan scared the shit out of her, and then she burned her coffee mug. Of fucking course.

Her mouth twisted into an angry frown and she headed back to her plate of food, keeping a careful eye on Dylan's whereabouts around the kitchen as she sat down with the others to eat.
Persephone wasn't much of an early riser. Sure, she loved the sun. That was why she spent a lot of time at the top of Mount Justice. But she had never liked to rise with the sun. She much preferred using the early morning sun to keep her warm as she slept. And waking before the sun? That was just not an option.

But there were still some days, like today, where it didn't matter how much she wanted to sleep. It didn't matter how much she tossed and turned or how high she pushed the heat up in her room. She couldn't sleep. Her mind was restless, replaying everything that had ever happened to her. All night long she saw Orren's face, his dad's face, her parent's faces. She saw Orren's face as she had last seen it before she left - covered in a grief she had no words of comfort for. I'm sorry? What did that even mean? I'm sorry it was your dad and not mine? I'm sorry it wasn't someone else? I'm sorry I let this happen? She had no control over it. Her apologies were meaningless. Still, she should have said something. The next morning she had woken up in the car, packed boxes next to her, with her parents telling her it was for her own good. They had no idea. They did all the wrong things, but for the right reasons? It was nights like this, sleepless and lonely, she sometimes though she had made a mistake. Maybe her parents had meant well, and just handled it wrong. What would she have done? She wanted to say she would have listened to her child, she would have believed them, but how could she know that?

And then she tried to push the thoughts from her mind. No, she had done the right thing. And anyways, it was too late now. What was done was done. But she was still a child who had had to grow up too fast. Most of the years she should have spent maturing she had spent arguing and hiding and resenting, and then all of a sudden she was too busy being self-sufficient to be anything else. Too busy finding a job to find herself. Too busy surviving to live.

Sometimes, on those nights, she thought about where she'd be if she hadn't found the team. If she hadn't been late to work that one day and she hadn't gotten stuck driving to the store to get more decorations for the library's party and she hadn't had to take the long way because of traffic, and if by the time she got there, she hadn't driven past Orren. What would have happened if she hadn't seen him as he looked now, eleven years later, and convinced herself that he was Ichor. The superhero had stuck in her mind after she saw a news report about him, but she couldn't figure out why. And then she had seen Orren, and realized that was where she knew Ichor from. It was a small chance, that her childhood best friend was now a superhero, but wasn't it also a small chance that she could produce fire from her body? So she had scoped the place out, and sure enough he was there. An incident later, she was on the team too.

And then, of course, her mind wandered to the incident. That face, and the hat. They had come out of the darkness all of a sudden. Just thinking about it made her skin crawl and her heart beat faster. And then, unable to deal with her fright, she would have to light up her hand and scope out her room to make sure he wasn't lurking there in the shadows.

That was usually when she got up. She needed to move, stop allowing her mind to wander. Sure, there was a chance he was out there, but not at this hour. He slept late, surely she was safe for a few hours. So Persephone pulled herself out of bed and tugged on a tee-shirt and shorts and took a walk around the place. She took a few laps around the halls, amusing herself with her hand torch, before she heard other people moving around. Eventually her stomach growled, and she headed towards the kitchen.

Name: Persephone Davis
Alias: Firefly
Age: 24
Gender: Female

Personality: Persephone's basically your girl-next-door to the max. She's used to being overlooked and under-appreciated, but is still determined to please and feels dejected and lonely when she and her accomplishments are ignored or neglected. She has a keen eye for seeing other often overlooked things (ranging from people to tripwires no one else stopped to notice). She's a perfectionist when she's given a job to do and can get hung up fixing the small details easily. She carries high respect for her superiors and takes direction well. She's also pretty easy-going and has a large sense of humor, making her easy to get along with. However, because she's not very outspoken, those she doesn't like and doesn't get along with might not know unless they take hints well. There are only a few things Per really doesn't like and will speak up about not doing (taking a trip to Antarctica, hanging out in a freezer, dancing in the pouring rain, etc.). She also really doesn't like being scared or someone having control over her (more in the sense of someone using their powers on her than someone leading her). Lastly, Per is an odd mixture of logical and impulsive. The majority of situations she sees and reasons logically but is still affected emotionally, but there are a minority of situations where she will rely on her gut and instincts or she'll make (usually poor) snap decisions with her passion in the heat of the moment.

Powers:

Equipment: Per always keeps a lighter on her person, but that's about it. If I think of something good I might add it.

Other: She's always running a high temperature, she does poorly in the cold, rain, and high winds, she has a high pain tolerance and when her skin burns it tingles in a nice feeling way, she's a pretty fast runner, she can't have kids cause she has no eggs and no menstrual cycle...oh and she's hopelessly in love with Orren.

Appearance:

isn't she just the cutest little thing

History: For a big part of her life, Per was literally the girl next door. She was Orren's neighbor and one of his best friends throughout childhood, up until they hit thirteen and everything turned upside down. Orren's father died and Persephone hit puberty and woke up one night in the middle of a blazing fire. Her bed had mysteriously caught fire while she was sleeping, and once the fire was put out and the damage assessed, it was assumed a faulty wire had sparked the bed sheets and set them on fire. The lack of smoke that had been in the house was overlooked. This happened again, with her curtains, and once more everyone turned a blind eye to the things about the fire than didn't add up. But the third time, when Persephone was home alone and wrapped up in angst and the living room sprouted a fire, her parents had had it. They decided it had to be her that was setting the fires. Her parents ignored her protests and convinced themselves she was a pyromaniac. They took her and their belongings with no warning or goodbyes and moved to Colorado where they had found a center for pyromania rehabilitation. Uprooted from her life and everyone she loved she turned against her parents, barely talking to them and only pretending to play their rehab game in the hopes she would go home. But she didn't, even when her doctor told her parents she was fine. So she resolved to find the cause of the spontaneous fires, and that was how she discovered she could create and control fire.

Once she wasn't legally bound to be with her parents anymore she headed back to her hometown, finding work and a place to stay and hiding out there for a good while. When she caught wind of the team joining up, she went to check it out. Recognizing Orren as a part of it and seeing that they were different too she decided to stake them out and decide if she wanted to join. However she was caught sneaking in by Dylan, given the fright of her life, and then found by Orren. A reconnection and a few conversations later, she joined the team.
I think I'm gonna do a girl with pyrokineses, that cool?

I'm thinking definitely being able to ignite her own body, probably throw fire, I'm not sure about having her be able to just look at things and light them on fire...maybe only flammable things.
Persephone nodded, watching him lean against the doorway. Yes, it was nine o clock already. Yes, the new students bus. "Uh, no, I didn't. I just got up," she told him. After another moment of staring, she spoke up. "Uh, do you wanna go get some?" If she knew anything about Orren, it was that surely he was hungry. Some food wouldn't hurt her either.

After a few minutes of Orren getting ready, the two of them headed down to the cafeteria. Breakfast was already being served, but not too many people were there. A great deal of them were still outside, observing and greeting the new arrivals. They headed onto the line to get food, where most of the people were hanging around. It moved arguably slow, but Per didn't take much mind to it. It was just more time she got to stand next to Orren. In fact, she was too busy smiling at him to notice when the boy stepped in front of her on line. She saw a few people behind Orren bristle, and look up ahead of her, and turned curiously. Finding a boy before her that had not been there when she had gotten onto the line, she paused. Her small mouth opened, ready to say something, and then closed. They were all hungry, and one more person in front of her wouldn't make much of a difference. Staying silent, she turned back around to Orren.
