Name: Yohanes "Jonas" Tan

Gender identity: Male

Age: 21

Occupation aboard Judas 5: Computer technician

Physical description: Lanky and short, clocking in at around 5'7 (but he'll say he's 5'8). Longish black hair and thick glasses that he's always taking off to fiddle with. Usually wearing ratty jeans and graphic t-shirts. Lost his only belt three days after boarding and has been holding his pants up with a carabiner ever since.

How they came to be aboard Judas 5: Jonas grew up in a single-parent household with four younger siblings and was the first person in his family to attend college. He'd been drawn to technology from a young age, starting with programming his graphing calculator and eventually moving on to more complex machinery. Six months before graduation, Ignius Incorporated approached him with an offer of a highly-paid position as a computer technician, which he initially declined in favor of finishing his degree. Two weeks later, his mother called to say that she'd suddenly lost her job and Jonas wound up calling Ignius Incorporated to accept his position aboard the Judas 5. He can often be seen hanging around the computer bay with the other technicians, competing over the top score on the ship's homemade Pac-Man console, or drawing comics about living on Judas 5 to email to his younger brother.

Known significant relationships with other crew members:
Morrison - The head technician and Jonas's boss. A quirky older man with a definite limp and a penchant for bad puns, Morrison does his darnedest to keep Jonas out of trouble.

Ray - An aquatic ecologist who experiences an above-average number of computer malfunctions. If Jonas has been sabotaging their computer in order to have an excuse to talk with them, nobody's the wiser.

Goals aboard Judas 5: Make enough money to pay his mother's bills and send his little siblings to college. The sooner he can get back to the surface, the better.

I'm loving Stefan already~ I'll get Alex's post up as soon as possible (read: either tonight or tomorrow night)!
I'm digging the mentor idea, personally. It might make sense for the mentor to drag Alex into the city for whatever reason and lead to him meeting Cody.

Spekaing of which, who's going to be playing the mentors? Are they going to be player characters or just minor characters?
My general strategy is to use postimg.org and then copy the direct link in between the image tags if the image I'm trying to post is somewhere on my laptop. Not sure if that helps any, but hopefully it will.

Do you want to write the starting post soon or wait a bit and try to get a few more people in here?
@Rook Awesome! I'll do my best to get a form up today!

(Daxis is officially the best gender-neutral mechanic in the ocean)
Thanks, dude! I'm flattered ^//^

It sounds like the two of them should definitely be paired up! What's his name?
I'm honestly of the opinion that this is the sort of representation that we can stand to see more of-- it's incredibly rare these days to find LGBT characters with personalities and roles outside of their identity. By making Tracer gay and then deciding to not change her character at all, Blizzard effectively established that her sexuality is not her defining characteristic (even if this wasn't necessarily their intent.)

I'd also argue that, given the low quality and general scarcity of LGBT representation in the media, even if this whole thing is a massive corporate ploy, it's sending the message that a large portion of the public is willing to shell out money for non-straight (and hopefully non-cis) characters. If Blizzard can prove that LGBT characters are profitable, that could encourage other large businesses to head in that direction and eventually result in some more solid representation in the future.

Edit: just realized how old this thread was. Sorry to drag it back from the dead, y'all.
I'm definitely intrigued. Do you have any room on board for a computer peon?

(Side note: it's awesome to see someone out there writing characters with they/them pronouns!)
