The Music of Vermont

Hidden in plain sight. You are a Music student.

Music is no longer appreciated. It is no longer taken seriously as a passion and certainly not as a career. At University of Vermont, you must pursue a different field, something that you could actually make a living in doing, and something you won't be patronized for. However, in a place that very few know of, Abbey Falls, is where all the others like you gather to do the thing they really love, share their gift of music. Singers and instrumentalists from all over the state of NY gather here to sing, play and others, simply just to listen. Abbey Falls could be described as your safe place. There is a beautiful open field, a small waterfall that runs into a little stream and a secret building only people with certain abilities can access. Unless of course if you're a student and you have your necklace. Because no one appreciates music anymore, no one knows what a whole note, half note, fermata or rest looks like. Be as expressive with your musical symbols as you want; no one knows what they mean. Lie about it all you want. Each Music student receives a necklace the first day of class with which they can be identified by.

You come here for class. Yes you have your other classes you don't really care about such as Math, English, Biology, whatever your major requires. But you also signed up for music classes. Choir, Music Theory, Keyboard Lab, Concert Band and Composition are held here in a building only few know of. Don't be fooled. The building is disguised to resemble someone's house. Look for a rather large log cabin. You may sign up for only one or even all of these classes, but there is a catch. Enroll at your own risk. In this society, music majors are the bottom of the barrel. You would be questioned, shunned and turned away by the majority of the school's population. That is why you must choose a false major when you enter the University. Whatever it be, it can't be Music. They would not have accepted you if they knew you were someone they did not respect. You are looked down upon as a waste of the government's time and money. You must play the part. You will be disenrolled should anyone find out.

You may choose to live on campus, with relatives or in an apartment nearby the school. Living in the dorms is the most dangerous option, but an option nonetheless. This will require the most secrecy. You will have roommates and they will ask you questions. Let's just say you become a very good liar at this point in your life. All instruments are kept at the music building and NEVER leave Abbey Falls. This must be clear to everyone. You may try to break the rules if you like but don't expect me not to react to it. . .

Now I must explain your Gift. Something has always been different about you since you discovered that Music was your passion. Something awoke inside of you. You have an ability that others do not and also, cannot comprehend. Whether it be your voice, or something involving the instrument you play, you have some sort of supernatural ability. This ability is both meant in a literal, magic sense and also in a metaphorical one since you can play an instrument, which is a gift of its own. Please be creative! I would love to see some off the wall shit up in here. Whether it be healing, fighting, invisibility, anything. Unless its too OP. Then I will yell at you for it. Choose wisely.

6. What I or a coGM says, goes. Fight me.
7. Post character sheets in OOC, wait for acceptance, then post in the CHAR tab.
8. More than one paragraph is encouraged. I would like to see inner thoughts, conflicts and character development. Interaction between characters is my favorite!
9. If you are going to be absent, or have to drop, let me know. Your character will be frozen for the time you are gone, or if you drop, I will do one of two things: take your character out of the story, or give them away for someone else to play.
10. Not really a rule but, please recommend. I would like this concept to grow.

Height and Build: 5'8 and healthily curvy

Other Appearance: Desereai's Pegasus form is intimidating and some may find frightening. Her coat is overwhelmingly black and when the sunlight strikes it, it may appear to have a red undertone. Her mane and tail are a dark ash grey color. Her wings and horn are also this color. In her Pegasus form, she is more strongly built than in her human form. She resembles the build of a noriker horse. When in her Pegasus form, her horn sometimes lets off smoke. This often occurs when she is angry or highly curious. Her wings are very jagged and sharp at the tips. When in her human form, she looks like a mostly normal human. Others may notice her eyes being a little darker and more sinister looking than most and may be slightly afraid of her at first. She covers the star on her forehead with makeup whenever she is not by herself. Her movements are definite and graceful. Contrary to her Pegasus form, her clothing patterns are mostly green, dark red and some dark grey. She does not like wearing black. Tattoos of various music related things adorn her back, legs and shoulders.

History/bio: Deseraei grew up in a broken home. Her father split right from the beginning and her mother was only around half of the time. From the age of 12, she pretty much had to fend for herself after her mother became addicted to pharmaceuticals. Because of her lack of care, her teachers at school were always concerned about her health, both mentally and physically. The other students of course noticed this and typically stayed away from her. The school even sent CPS to her house on two separate occasions. However, she was never removed from her mother's care because they could never prove that Deseraei was being neglected. She often wondered about her father but always pushed the thought out of her head as it brought her pain and frustration. She soon discovered her smoke. Desereai also had noticed from about the age of 14, she constantly felt like she was being electrocuted. When the phenomenon first began, every once in a while, she would experience sharp, jabbing pains of electricity in her hands, feet and forehead. They only lasted a couple seconds, but after a while, grew more persistent and grew in longevity. After about a year of dealing with these weird shocks, she decided to see if she could do something with it. After some practice, she found she could create an electromagnetic force field around herself after experiencing a shock. The force field lasts as long as Desereai can hold the charge and blocks any person or object from touching her. Anything that is thrown in her direction is tossed backwards toward its original source at twice the speed as when it was thrown.

As she grew, it became more apparent to her and others that she was different. High school was difficult and she was bullied. Her English teacher was her only friend and she developed a very close friendship with him after she graduated. After she graduated, she stayed in her hometown and tried to find a job but had no luck. She finally decided to pack her bags and move to somewhere she felt more at home at. Flying across the nation was a rather large shock for her but she had always wanted to visit the East Coast. She then settled in Vermont and found her home in Whitecross. Starting fresh was exactly what she needed.

I know I said I would have the OOC up today guys but for some reason I have just had really bad writers block today. I will try and write something tomorrow as I have all day. I know what I want this RP to be but for some reason I am just having trouble expressing it. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

I am starting the process of creating the OOC now guys. I've made a couple changes to the concept but nothing too big. I now have to settle on a location, NPC names, a more in depth character sheet and plot line. I should have it up at some point tonight so be on the lookout. And please mention it to some people as I would like more players. Thanks for expressing your interest and I look forward to reading your guys' characters!
