”Oh, Hi MDP, good to see you!"

Lily accepted the hug from MDP with a bit of reservation, but it was a distraction that allowed her to momentarily ignore the initial awkwardness of the situation. She nodded as MDP made a case for her speech mannerisms to Roxanna, followed by the Angel girl agreeing to it. Come to think of it…Wasn’t that girl at the rave way back when? Lily intended to ask her about it.

Unfortunately, it seemed that Roxanna interpreted Lily’s words as chastising her.

”Ahh, that’s not what I meant!" Lily moved her open-palmed arms before her frantically, looking flustered.

However, that was when Roxanna apologized, and explained her own point of view, causing Lily to calm down with a sigh of relief.
”Ahh, so it was a bit of culture shock! Like when I explained about the daki I ordered!" She blurted out, before turning silent for the rest fo the conversation.

At the end of it, she simply nodded, letting MDP speak first out of politeness. Once MDP was done, she added:

”I’m sorry if I came off as condescending or rude, Roxanna. I didn’t intend to dismiss your feelings on the matter."

She then pulled out a piece of paper from her pocket, and gave it to Roxanna. The paper had a row of numbers with Lily’s name on it.

”Anyway, if you ever want to…you know, do magical girl stuff, hang out, or whatever, umm, here’s my number. For the phone, I mean, haha."

“The Valkyrie girl, right? I saw her at the party too!” Sally piped in as Alicia explained what happened, having released Aurelio when he struggled to breathe. “She’s cute, but a bit loco in the coco if she does stuff like that. I mean, I can be a bit careless too, but that’s going too far…” She leaned her head to look at where Alicia’s hand circled her recent battle wounds.
“How about we celebrate this with some pastries? I heard Silverburg has this really nice cafe where you can get chocolate mousse! I could really go for something sweet!”

However, before Sally could fangirl over cakes too much, Sakura arrived with perfect timing.
“Hm? Who’s that? Hey, watch your mouth! You can’t just-” The ditzy girl started, before she puffed her cheeks upon realizing who she was. “Sakura! Why you little rascal!” She blinked as Sakura looked like she was about to once again call the storm…only to cutely fail, causing Sally to giggle as she walked up to her-.
“Oh, you’re so silly, Sakura!” Before the serpentine girl realized it, now she was the victim of Sally’s suffocating hug, looking like a wiggling salmon that’s been caught by a bear.
“You’re so cute~!”

Using her Beast magic, Dina successfully called in some of the crows that had been flying around the area; the birds were compliant as they perched on Dina’s arms, as if they were trained animals. Afterwards, Dina inspected the area where the March Hare had made his “burrow”, and noticed a stray piece of the magitek radio that he had used: it resembled some kind of microconductor, only it had a tiny yellow gem installed inside it. The gem still seemed to hold a miniscule amount of mana inside it as it faintly glowed.

Penny contacted Elora, who only took a second of typing before she responded back: “Patrol identified, codenamed Winky Puffs. Members are Bloom Belle, Stella Stars, Riven Rock, Stormy Sea, and Marine Plunder. Estimates based on data indicate only one survivor. Sending a cleanup crew to the area,” she stated professionally, with no hint of emotion. "Oh, and in case she didn't mention it," she added, "Penny, Alicia, the Cardinal has requested a meeting with you both for next week."

Justine’s eyes met Valerie’s when she non-verbally chastised her, and she averted her eyes; there was still tension between her and the android girl, and she had difficulty facing her admonition. Right now, Caroline mattered more to her than her own pride, and she wouldn’t try to excuse her feelings. Not that she had much time to ponder that once Valerie confronted Sonia. Justine did not know what to think about her sudden appearance. Did she look for her? And now that she did, what will she do.

The former maid’s glared daggers upon her, her expression cold like ice. At an instant, she disappeared from the rooftop, and appeared at talking distance away from the group.

”Who gave you permission to speak on behalf of Lady Justine?”

She spoke the words out with thinly-veiled hostility.

”Or do you need to be taught manners?”

Having expressed her displeasure at the android, she shifted her attention to Justine.

”Please excuse me for taking this long to find you, my Lady. Now, shall we depart? Father has waited for your return.”
She asked, holding her hand out for Justine.

The former vampire’s eyes widened as she looked at the offer. She then looked down at Caroline, who slept in her arms.

”...No. I’m not going back, Sonia.”

Sonia’s expression tightened.

”But why? Are you not Justine von Visceral, the Sinner of Lust and champion of Father’s will? Why would you grovel before these peasants? Why would you let them shame you like this?”

Justine's expression turned angry, and she bared her teeth.

”You’re the one who shamed me! You were supposed to look after Caroline, and she disappeared! And did Father help? No, he abandoned her!” She caressed Caroline’s head.
”No matter what happens, I will not lose her. Not ever again! I’m done with Father.”

Sonia’s open hand curled up into a fist, and she took an exasperated breath.

”So it is true…They ruined you.”

”No, Sonia. You don't understand! Father has just been using us, all this time. It was only after I was purified that I could accept that. Or are you also brainwashed by him? Is revenge the only thing you care about?”

Sonia shook her head.

”That’s what these mongrels deserve for hurting you and Lady Caroline! You wanted revenge, didn’t you? It’s still not too late to take it, my Lady!” She now gave her hand out in a more demanding manner.

Then she sighed.

”I believed you would rise up above all else and attain glory and power, to be Father’s vengeance upon the mongrels. You would have shone a radiant crimson, like the blood moon. But you've lost your drive...It seems I was mistaken.”

”Sonia, enough!”

Justine trembled.

”Don't you see? If I actually succeeded in that plan, I would have destroyed all emotions, all feelings…So what would happen to you, Sonia?”

Sonia froze, taken aback by the realization she had. Her eyes then turned wide, and she slightly shook at the weight of the truth.

”No, that's not...I didn't...”

”That’s right. You never considered that possibility, because Father blocked it off. But now that I brought it up, you’re forced to comprehend it. Father can take over your mind…But he can’t take over your heart.”

It was now Justine's turn to offer her hand.

”But it's fine. You don't need to listen to him anymore. We can-Ah!”

However, before Justine could speak any further, Sann swooped upon the sisters, a sweep of her wings enough to blow a gust of wind that caused the twins to stumble. Enclosed in her egg-like shell, the Valkyrie’s roost caused Justine to be still in surprise.

And then, the three of them shifted away, causing Sonia to gasp.

”That harpy! What does she think she is doing? Ahh, this is all so irritatingly confusing...What did you mean?”

Then, she disappeared without so much as a goodbye, as if it all was but a passing daydream.

Sann’s Shift brought the three of them to a deserted region of the Overcity, where a sparkling lake of gentle blue shimmered. In the far distance, the colossal Crystal Wall of the Overcity could be seen, glowing in colors of the rainbow like a multiversal lighthouse.

Justine removed herself from Sann’s embrace while still holding Caroline, seemingly upset.

”W-What are you doing? Why did you take me here?” She asked, looking angry.
”I know you can bring back the dead…But Caroline is still alive. I know she is! All she needs is one of those potions, and I’m sure she will recover.”
Her eyes glowed red as she realized Sann’s intentions.
”Does the Mint want to make a new deal with me?”

”Th-That’s not what I meant, it’s just…" Lily attempted backpedaling on her words. She listened as Alex explained his views on the battle, and how he didn’t mind getting hurt in the process.
”Yeah, we’ve been in worse…It’s just, ever since the Christmas party, I’ve started to realize I have a bad habit of not paying attention to how others might be feeling. So I thought that, umm, maybe…" She stopped herself with a nod.
”No, you’re right. We did beat those monsters, after all. If it was anyone else, I’m sure they’d have been worse off." Her smile began to gradually return to her.
”Now let’s finish the job!"

Soon enough the two arrived at the Industrial District. Lily hopped off her motorcycle, and ran to the gathering of Mahou present, waving her arm as she approached them.
”Hey! Sorry for being late! Had to deal with some monsters up on central. Is everything handled here?" She asked, and looked up to the sky; the flock of birds had started to scatter, the mysterious man’s Beast magic having been released from them.

She returned her eyes back to the crowd, and noticed Roxanna in the crowd. She greeted the girl, seemingly ignoring the accusations she threw at MDP.
”Oh, you must be new here! Hi, my name’s Lily Lightning, but my friends call me Lily!" Past her bright smile was a hint of nervousness at the tense situation.
”I see you’ve met MDP, haha! Don’t mind her, she can be a bit, uh, ditzy."

As Alicia and Aurelio recovered from their fight with the wendigos, Alicia heard Elora’s voice in the communicator: “The situation has stabilized; the major packs of wendigos have been eliminated, leaving only lone stragglers. A couple of other squads are chasing after them for the cleanup as we speak. Mission complete. Over and out.”

Soon, they saw Sally running to them, having teleported in from a nearby rooftop.
“Hiii!” She cheerfully greeted the two. “How ya doing, Alicia? Looks like you had your work cut out for you this time, huh? We also had some wendigos out at the city limits. The things were all over town, so I thought I’d come in to check.” She pondered with a finger on her lip, having seen the piles of ash scattered around. “But you were lucky you had Aury-Poo here to help you! He’s such a gentleman~” She grabbed Aurelio, and smothered him with her lethally affectionate embrace.

Robert smiled pleasantly when Mariette accepted the letter, and bowed like a sophisticated butler. “The Queen of Hearts will look forward to your attendance. Goodbye for now, Miss Pedersen~” And, like an actor taking exit stage right, the boy turned and walked out of the door, having disappeared, but not before Mariette got a glimpse of him taking out what looked like a large golden pocket watch from his pocket. Once he was out of sight, Mariette could tell using Absolute Direction that he had left this dimension.

Finn and Mayra, though surrounded by snarling wendigos, quickly got to work in taking them out in a dance of destruction. Having already had experience with fighting a much larger horde, and still blessed by the enchantments from before, Finn successfully destroyed three of the wendigos, his fiery attacks making short work of the fiendish monsters. Mayra, while held back by her decision to take a more localized fighting style, still erupted a shower of lava-hot punches and kicks, accompanied by dark hexes and crooked casts that crippled the creatures, totaling six downed wendigos. The remaining one was shot out by a gauss cannon shot from Penny who had arrived after, flying inches away from Mayra’s cheek.

Hanna and Fubu blinked in surprise when Monica approached them and invited them to mourn their friend over at the Sanctuary.
“R-Really?” Hanna asked, baffled by the kindness she showed. “You’re sure it’s okay? I mean, after all that…” She took the minotaur girl’s hand and shook it with both hands. “No, we’re the ones who should apologize. We were hunted by Beacon in every town we’ve gone to, so we didn’t think things would be that different here. Thank you!” Fubu also showed gratitude with a bow. “Of course, we can tell you everything we know. We promise to carry our weight and work, if it means not having to constantly watch over our back. Thank you.”

Justine did not notice Valerie’s arrival, having been absorbed by her sister’s tragic fate, until she spoke, causing her to gasp.

”Valerie! Caroline’s dying!” She called out to her, tears, streaming down her face.

”She’s no longer breathing!” She pressed an ear to her chest. ”And her heartbeat’s slowing down! Please, save her! I beg of you!”

However, upon hearing Valerie ask the others and Connie’s tearful response, she sobbed in turn, having lost all hope of saving her…Until she heard a certain magical girl’s voice call out to her: it was the last person Justine expected.

”...Deni?” She whispered, her eyes wide as the little ronin girl knelt next to her; her face was white, as if she’d seen a ghost.

”B-But, Caroline…She…” She tried to put words together, but she was unable to form the sentence, shocked by Deni’s selfless gesture to save her sister. She further flinched when Miko also joined, the two of them having laid their healing hands upon Caroline.
”And Eli too…Th-thank you. Thank you so much!” She managed to say, holding back from bawling as the immense feelings of gratitude and relief washed over her.
Caroline’s breath had returned, yet it was still weak, barely drawing in air. Her heartbeat kept beating weakly. Justine took a firm grasp of her hand.
”Caroline, don’t give up! Don’t go towards the light!”

Then, she felt a wave of magic, like a burst of golden wind, blow out from behind her; Sanngridr had performed a Barrage spell, causing her Reinforcement to explosively reach out to the entire group including Caroline, further supporting her life. Everyone else felt all pain disappear, their wounds from the wendigo fight having been sealed. Caroline slightly jumped, as if hit by a defibrillator, and Justine placed her ear against her chest once again.
”I can hear it…Her heartbeat’s steady!”

However, despite having been saved from the jaws of death, Caroline still laid on the ground, motionless, as if in a coma of sorts. Justine caressed her cheek, hoping she might wake, but she knew it to be futile.
”She’s not waking up…She needs the potion.”
She stood up, picking Caroline down from the ground as she did so, and turned towards Valerie.
”Valerie, she needs a purifying potion before her condition gets worse again. It saved me, so it should save her too. Can you call´Mistress and ask if she has one?”

Whether Valerie responded or not, she afterwards addressed Sanngridr.
”Sanngridr, thank you. This meant a lot to me,” She said with hesitant gratitude, and bent her knees, as if attempting a curtsy while still carrying Caroline in her arms.
However, before she could further speak to Sann, Sakura interrupted her, having also been rejuvenated by Sann’s spell. She averted her eyes as she bit her lip, seemingly shamed by Caroline’s antics once she got a good look at the serpentine girl’s severed horn.
”On behalf of Caroline, I apologize. I didn’t expect her to show up again. But thank you for stopping her, Sakura,” She called out to Sakura as she left, hoping her words reached her.

The second message Sann sent received a reply: “Understood.” Sann knew it was only a matter of time before they tracked her down. And sure enough, both the Valkyrie, and eventually Justine as well, could see in the far distance, up on top of a tall building, the person looking down over the scene.

Justine froze, as she recognized the person.

”...Sonia.”

Lily sighed in relief once Alex noticed his wound, though her sad expression didn’t change.

”I guess it’s worse everywhere else," Lily answered, and summoned her motorbike. She took out her phone, seemingly about to call someone, when she looked up at the sky ”I see a lot of birds heading over to the factories over on Industrial. I think we should go there next."

Once Alex was on board, the two of them headed off as usual. However, Lily continued to be gloomy behind the steering wheel.

”H-Hey, Alex…I’m sorry." She paused, as if to recollect her words, before continuing.

”For putting you in danger like that, and letting you get hurt. I mean, I’ve gotten hurt too; comes with this job and all. But I’m usually so fast I can dodge most attacks. But you’re always putting yourself out in harm’s way. Even if you can heal, I just…I don’t know, I feel guilty about it."

At the apartment where Mariette had collected various civilians, the injured Beacon girl was resting, bandaged up like a poor mummy costume for Halloween. When Mariette approached her, the girl visibly tensed up. “Y-You’re the one who rescued me, right? Th-thanks…”
She then saw the tentacles that emerged from portals around Mariette, and the girl blushed. “W-Whatever you’re thinking of, it won’t work. I won’t break!”
She was breathing unusually heavily, with something resembling a smile on her face. “No matter how much you torture me-!”

That was when Mariette asked her questions, causing the girl to blink. “O-oh. You just want…information.” Looking embarrassed at her misunderstanding, she glanced away with a cringing face, and then sighed. “A-Alright, I’ll tell you.” She sat up on her bed, and looked down at her hands. “It was me, Bloom, Stella, Riven, and Stormy. We were doing our usual rounds when we happened to see someone up on top of the iron smelting facility. Pretty sure it was a magical boy. Th-that’s when the monsters attacked us. I think I heard him say something about unifying or unification, but at that point I was too busy swinging my sword at some snapping jaws to hear more.” She then blinked, as she looked straight at Mariette…Or rather, at something behind her.

“Oh, it was him! That’s the guy!”

Mariette’s Light magic detected the statement as the truth.

When she turned, she saw her point at one of the civilians she had rescued. The boy in question stepped out of the crowd, and bowed.

“Oh, my deepest apologies for interrupting your conversation.”
He had a pleasant smile and relaxing demeanor about him, making him very approachable for a stranger…And that caused Mariette to feel even more put off by him.

“It seems your friend has mistaken me for someone else.”
Mariette detected the statement also as the truth.

“Anyway, I should introduce myself. My name is Robert White. I am pleased to meet you, Miss Pedersen. On behalf of the Queen of Hearts, I would be honored to give you this.” He reached for a letter tucked in his jacket, and graciously handed it out to Mariette. Just like the one before, this one also had the royal wax seal with the stylized heart symbol, marking it as genuine.

“Her Highness would like to invite you to a friendly game of croquet. It is a very important date, so please don’t be late~” he said, referring to the famous line spoken by a certain white-coated lagomorph. But the way he said it was still humorous, to the point even the Beacon girl let out a nervous giggle. Whoever this person was, they were very charismatic…And dangerous.

At the hospital, Alicia readied a blade of light despite her wounded condition, one arm clutching at her side as she endured the pain. However, Sanngridr was more than prepared to punish the offending monster who dared to sink their teeth into her, piercing the beast’s heart with her Valkyrie’s Tear, followed by casting a rune written in the fiend’s own blackened blood and searing the monster from within, causing it to howl pitifully as it scattered into ash.

By the time Sann was done, Aurelio had already moved to mend Alicia’s injuries as the battle had ended, relieving her suffering. Sanngridr also took a moment to heal her wing, molting broken feathers as new ones grew in their place. Thyen, without as much as a a goodbye, the Chooser of the Slain departed on ebony wings, heading towards the bank’s direction.

At the Penrose Bank, Miko and Ronin hesitated once Sakura had drawn Caroline’s ire, torn between fleeing the scene or aiding Sakura. Gaia chose a third option, and attempted to pacify the two combatants by enveloping them in a large cloud of very potent narcotic spores. This further drained Gaia, leaving her with only a little bit; the next spell she would cast would result in her transforming back to normal. However, the verdant girl did not have much time to think on the consequences when Sanngridr arrived, having taken the twins under her wing.

The spell was partially absorbed by Sakura’s aquatic barrier, the rest blown away by the serpentine girl. Caroline also noticed the spores, and breathed out fire, burning the spores out of the air.

”Caroline is not going to wash Caroline’s teeth!! It’s not Caroline’s bed time yet!” She screamed, and then delivered a blow that severed Sakura’s horn. Caroline jumped back after the hit, swiped it downwards to quell the flames, and licked her blade, tasting the blood on it. This caused the demented girl to giggle madly, seemingly elated.

”Sweet red! Just like Caroline remembered, sweet red!” She brandished her sword, lighting it up once more as she dashed once again at Sakura.
”Caroline wants more! More sweet red! MORE!”

In response, Sakura mightily shrieked, and the weather itself turned to a storm, causing Caroline to stop and blink in surprise as Sakura was surrounded by the raging winds, a creepily open smile on her lips.

”Haa ha haa!” She laughed, even as Sakura charged, channelling her destructive magic onto the red-dressed maniac. The entire street shook from the impact, and windows shattered. The rain continued to stain the street with water…and carried shades of red with it; Caroline’s blood. The Killing Blow, just as Sakura planned, caused a bolt of thunder to strike at the moment the two collided. Caroline laid on the street; Her red dress was bleached into shades of pink by the intensity of the energy that had struck her. Her arms, legs, and face were burnt. Her mad giggling was replaced by gurgling blood from her throat. Sakura also lay nearby, panting unevenly as she was also frazzled by the blow, but to a much lesser extent. Even so, she was in need of immediate medical attention.

”CAROLINE!”

Justine arrived, having quickly descended down to Caroline. She held Caroline in her arms, tears staining her cheeks.

”Caroline, stay with me!” She pleaded, but Caroline didn’t respond. She sniffled.
”I’m sorry for how much I hurt you, Caroline! I’m sorry for not being there for you when you needed me the most! I let my desire for revenge consume me! It let me down a horrible road of despair!”
She scratched the concrete-paved street next to Caroline with her long nails, breaking them.
”I did terrible things, thinking I’d avenge you, when I should have tried to heal your heart instead! I was so stupid! I’m sorry! So sorry!” She slammed her fist down, causing cracks to form on the street.

”...Big…sis…”

Justine froze upon feeling Caroline’s hand weakly rising to touch her cheek.

”You…Came for Caroline…You cared…” She faintly spoke as she opened her eyes, even as the pool of blood, diluted by the water, spread.

”Caroline!” Justine held the hand on her cheek.
”You will be alright, I promise! Just stay with me! I’ll never leave you again!”
However, Caroline coughed blood in response.

”...Caroline…knows….Big sis…Will always…be with…me…”

Then, she closed her eyes…And her hand went limp.

Justine continued sitting on her knees, holding Caroline, as she quietly wept.

”Caroline…”

At the industrial sector, the battle came to a decisive close with Penny’s earth-shaking arrival; with a mighty force, bolstered by Dina and Angel of Hope, the Builder Queen paved the streets with the ashes of the wendigos, covering for the Sanctuary warriors who were about to reach their limit. Like Laughing Octopus in the beginning of MGS4, Penny tore through the ranks of monsters. Assisted by everyone else, including Oliver who picked off more distant wendigos with firebombs, and MDP who blasted a few more with pretty beams of deadly light, the battle was finally over; what wendigos remained were either incapacitated, or slowly regenerating.

“Phew, we survived,” Hanna commented, holding her arm due to a bite wound she had incurred, which had already began to close thanks to Reinforcement magic.
“Yeah…” Fubu agreed, though she frowned. “But not Karen.”
“Oof…I guess we’ll have to hold a funeral for her.”

However, even after the wendigoes were destroyed, birds continued to ominously gather in the sky. Though they have failed to harass anyone, having been shocked into nuggets or burned into hot wings by Dina’s phoenix, they still flew in circles above, almost as if they were watching.

Having realized this oddity sooner than others, Finn went to investigate the nearby factory, followed by Mayra. There, they heard someone’s voice in the distance; they seemed to be talking to someone else.

“Yes, the nexus has surpassed our expectations. I assure you that you will be pleased by its potency, Your Highness.”

The two reached the main production hall, and up on a walkway next to the windows Finn saw the source of the Beast magic: a masked man in a decorated suit was speaking to an old-fashioned corded telephone attached to a strange device. The device emerged out from a suitcase much smaller than the device itself, and had glowing crystals and blue wires interspersed with electronics, buttons, dials, and an antenna on top. The antenna slowly rotated, and Mayra realized that she had seen something similar used on a dimension she or one of her colleagues had visited; it was a magitech radio of sorts. It also seemed to be capable of cloaking it’s user from magical or technological surveillance, with only the Beast magic having been able to be traced.

“The local defenses are unorganized but not to be taken lightly. Penrose is unsuitable as a landing point for our troops. Silverburg on the other hand is lightly defended and within marching distance. I recommend-”
The man stopped having noticed the arrival of the two.
“Ending call. Hail Wonderland!”
He then placed the corded phone back on the device, and pressed a button; the device sunk into the suitcase as it closed, leaving no trace of the device.
The man picked up the suitcase, and faced the intruders. He then placed a sealed letter on the windowsill, and dusted off his coat. He smiled smugly.

“Ignorant slaves to the Powers.” He snapped his fingers, and ten wendigos suddenly emerged around Finn and Mayra, having arrived from summoning circles; it seems the mysterious man had prepared for being found out. As the wendigos attacked, the man dashed out, swift as the wind, and disappeared completely.

Alex, having used his clones as diversions with defensive capabilities, managed to keep the bottleneck up despite the horde of wendigos slowly restoring their numbers, their tails expertly used to slam and parry the claws and antlers of their adversaries. Though the duplicates fell before the quick attacks of the blue monsters, they prevented the monsters from attempting to bust through the barriers around them or spread out. When they got through to Alex, he succeeded in standing his ground even as an antler pierced his arm right from under his shoulder, having bought enough time for Lily to charge her spell.

”Take this!" Lily’s eyes glowed an intense yellow, and she held Ramuh’s bowstring fully drawn.

”Raisō!"

A loud boom rang out as the blue thunder spear, as large as a ballista bolt, was shot out as if from a railgun, piercing through the ranks of the wendigos. The monsters were blown away into ash by the intense energy of the projectile, leaving none behind.

”Alright, we got them all!" Lily cheered. However, her smile quickly changed into shock; it was only then that Lily had noticed the injury that Alex had taken.

”Alex, are you alright?" She asked, looking worried. The antler had disappeared alongside the wendigo it belonged to, causing the opened wound to trickle with blood.

At the hospital, two wendigos rushed for Alicia with swift leaps, about to savage the Beacon archer, when they suddenly stopped in their tracks: they were slain by Sanngridr’s impaling spears that sprang up like deadly pillars right through their torsos, leaving their corpses to dangle in a macabre fashion. The one biting Aurelio was also struck; it was hit in its side, causing it to weaken its grip on Aurelio but not quite release it.

Alicia, however, chose not to accept the Valkyrie’s embrace, and dodged backwards…Right into the path of an impaling spear. The spear struck against Alicia’s lower back, but failed to pierce her; her Enhanced Outfit held firm, and saved her life. However, it dealt a critical blow that broke some of her ribs and caused her to cough up blood as she was knocked into the ground by the impact. Her body shook from the impact, but she managed to rise up to one knee and shoot a single arrow at the wendigo biting Aurelio; the Magician’s magic aimed for her, and pierced the monster’s frozen heart with burning light, rescuing him.

Aurelio, after a strike of his cane, used the emotion he got to quickly shoot out executing blades at the rest of the wendigos coming after them; he managed to decapitate one beast and cripple another, causing it to fall down. Then, having been freed from the jaws of the beast, attempted to protect himself from Sanngridr’s indiscriminate spell with a protective box of Determination. While it only slowed down the spear, it gave him just enough time to quickly move aside as the spear cracked through the box, scraping the side of his arm, making it look like a particularly insane form of an escape trick.

The remaining wendigo rose up quickly despite losing a limb, and set its sights on Sanngridr, seemingly finding the girl with the unfurled black wings particularly scrumptious. It rushed in to bite Sann’s black wing, causing black feathers to scatter as the beast painfully pulled and shook the delicate limb in an attempt to rip it off, but failing due to strength-sapping injuries it had incurred from various blades and arrows sticking out of it.

At the industrial sector, Shane hatched a genius plan to contend with the crows. Using the Thunderbird’s agility to evade the pursuing birds, Shane used collected dust and debris to form a field to conduct electricity, followed by unleashing a spherical burst of electricity that enveloped the area. Crows screeched as they were zapped, causing a black rain of feathers to fall. Dina’s phoenix joined the fray, a majestic beast with wings of flame, and it further scorched the skies blotted black. Finn also provided relief with his own Beast magic, lessening the power of the magic that has been cast on the flying combatants, but without being able to completely negate it.

Some of the crows followed after Mariette, and eventually perched on the very building the eyepatched girl hid herself away in, cawing loudly enough for even her to hear. Despite her predicament, Mariette was still able to assist, shooting at wendigos in the industrial district with periodically opened portals. One of her beams of light successfully shot through a wendigo’s heart, scorching it with white-hot brilliance and turning it to ash. At one point a crow managed to block a portal’s view with its fluttering, causing a black feather to fly into the basement as she slapped the bird away with a tentacle, but otherwise she was able to survey the battlefield and provide support without harassment.

Down on the ground, as Roxanna, Oliver, Finn, and the Angel of Hope arrived, Dina made her stand, and activated the Ruler’s Menagerie. Like a banner was proudly raised up, the spell gave a bolstering effect to the fighters around her; wounds slowly closed, and skin hardened against the blows of the enemy. As the spell, now further empowered by the Angel of Hope adding her own Reinforcement to the mix, washed over Hanna and her friend, they too stood up, having found new courage. “Y-You’ll pay for Karen’s death!” Hanna screamed as she summoned her blades and joined the fight alongside the wolf spirit-wielding girl. “Let’s avenge Karen, Fubu!”
“Yeah!”

Ashlyn took a sure-footed, area-of-effect style of fighting, performing mighty blows in a 360-degree arc and incinerating three wendigos with flame-wreathed weapons. Monica also fared on her own, and split a wendigo in half with her axe, leaving the halves to smoulder away.
Belladonna continued keeping up the good fight despite taking a more defensive approach, and with Ashlyn covering her succeeded in destroying two wendigos. The three of them together formed a triangle of pain, giving the ravenous beasts no quarter and no chances to flank them.
Hannah and Fubu also joined forces, and took down a wendigo each; Hanna with her slick blade chakrams, and Fubu with her rending wolf spirit.

As the number of slayed wendigos kept climbing, the eight wendigos that previously wailed now stopped, and descended down from the rooftop to jump on the fighters below, joining their accursed brethren. Even so, the cursed crows continued to flock. Finn and Dina, having taken careful note of the curse that permeated through the air with their Beast magic, now realized that it was perpetuated by an altogether different entity, hidden inside the factory nearby.

In addition to thinning the number of malevolent crows, Finn utilized his own black-beaked friends to distract and harass the wendigo pack, drawing aggression from others as they snapped their jaws and swiped at them, mostly to no effect as the birds flew just out of reach. He also performed some close-range burning attacks, keeping himself safe from the wendigos around him and even crippled a wendigo, rendering it incapacitated as its legs burned away, leaving it to snap at ankles. Oliver got to work with his bombs and ammo, burning three wendigos (un)alive by exploiting their weakness. In response to possible retaliation, Roxanna provided a wall of clones, preventing the monsters from breaching through to attack AoH or Finn and Oliver. It was a combination attack beyond compare, merciless yet magnificent.

Mayra was initially not faring well, having suffered numerous wounds from the horde of wendigos she had dove into the midst of. However, once Dina and Angel of Hope granted their blessings, the Flame Demon found a second wind within her, and turned into a whirling inferno of kicks and punches. Her body nearly exploded with fiery energy as she shrugged off the biting monsters, now wailing in pain as the magma-like blood burnt on their cold jaws. True to her name, Mayra was like a devil, traversin across shadows like an apparition and striking away at the monsters before they realized she had escaped, before moving on to new targets once her foes had become donuts. As a result, a whopping six wendigos scattered into ash.

”Agh, they just keep coming!” Justine cursed as she contended with a couple of wendigos, spinning her spear to deflect a claw swipe and following it up with a stab through the monster’s chest. However, she then blinked, having hear Mariette’s voice.
”C-Caroline!?” She yelled, and turned away briefly, before giving on last look at the battlefield.
”I’m sorry, but I need to find her!” Then, upon white wings, flew away, letting the winds of fate carry her.
”Stay there, Caroline…I beg of you…”

The wendigos, despite their reinforcements, were losing, yet they still managed to get a few more hits in. A wendigo bit down on Ashlyn’s neck, finding its teeth shattered as the ogre-like monster girl’s hide had become thick and chewy. Another wendigo clamped down on Monica’s leg in an attempt to immobilize her as she slowed down, followed by another wendigo clawing at her back, but failing to wound her due to her magical protection. One wendigo attempted to slam it’s antlers against Belladonna, only to be kicked right in the skull, separating it from the monster’s shoulders. Two wendigos went to attack Hanna and Fubu, slashing Hanna in the stomach and biting Fubu’s hand, causing Fubu to grunt in pain as it attempted crushing it. The three final wendigos struck at Roxanna’s clones, destroying six of them with their claws and bites, with the remaining three managing to barely hold the line. The two wendigos that yet remained against Mayra got in a slash at her chest and a headbutt on her back, only to be swept away by a single slap of her tail.

At the Penrose Bank, Caroline leaned her head to the side like a loose ragdoll as she looked at Connie, as if trying to read her expression through the mask she wore. She lazily nodded, a big grin on her face.
”Hello!” She greeted the timid girl back, and stepped even closer to her.
”Yes, Caroline’s Big Sis!” She answered. As she blinked, she then returned to a neutral expression, and…extended her tongue.

”Blep.”

However, before she could continue, Miko interrupted Caroline. She turned her head to the side in an exaggerated fashion like an owl, without moving the rest of her body, and smiled brightly.
”So Big Sis is really here! Yay!”
She stopped leaning in Connie’s direction, and clapped her hands in an applaud as Mia further encouraged her.

”Okay! Caroline is going to look really hard, so Caroline will find Big Sis for sur-”

Suddenly, she froze, and her eyes darted to the newcomer who just arrived and slandered her. Her expression returned to a neutral one, like an alerted animal.

”Caroline…is ugly pig spit?” She asked with no emotion in her voice as her irises shrunk, a chilling contrast to the friendly demeanor she had shown just moments ago.
”Ugly pig spit?”, she whispered in repeat.
A creepy grin formed in the corner of her lip.
”Big sis…used to call Caroline pig spit. Big sis did all kinds of things to Caroline, like called Caroline names. Big sis gave so much pain…Caroline was happy, at home.”

She lowered her head, and her weapon appeared in her hand. It seemed to burn with even more intensity than against the wendigos. She raised her face enough for her lunatic red eyes to shine through the strands of her hair.

”You want to…play with Caroline…Like Big Sis? Caroline…Will play!”

She giggled maniacally, and with frightening speed dashed to Sakura, slashing wildly at her.

”It’s been so long since Caroline has got to play! Please forgive Caroline, Mother! Caroline wants sweet red! Lots of sweet red!” She screamed at the top of her lungs, as she continued running circles around Sakura, swinging her oversized weapon with great strength and unerring accuracy, forcing Sakura to block and knocking her across the street from the impact, managing to land upright.

Lily weaved through a combined attack by two wendigos, circling around Alex and shooting arrows at any of the monsters trying to approach him as he fought off the alpha. However, even she could barely manage to handle their numbers, having to contend with them herself. Alex then regrouped with her, having come up with a solution in the form of a bottleneck. She gave a thumbs up.

”Nice idea, Alex! Let’s see them get past this!"
She took a firm stance, drew her bow, and gathered her magical energy, manifesting as a ball of lightning at the tip of her arrow. As the wendigos scrambled in, she released a Barrage:

”Wrath of Adrammelech!"

She began shooting thunder arrows rapidly into the ball lightning, which in turn multiplied the shots as they passed, turning the bottleneck into a storm of electricity that wracked the wendigos. The blasts of lightning additionally ricocheted off Alex’ barriers. The monsters screeched as the they were rapidly zapped, eventually clogging the route with their incapacitated numbers. That was when Lily ended her Barrage, and began charging up her Killing Blow, her green hair crackling with electricity as she glowed brightly.

”Alex, keep them at bay for just a little longer!"

A few of the wendigos were not yet zapped, and Lily saw through the barrier how the one slain by Alex also rose back up. It joined its pack, climbing over with a snarling maw.

”I need to hit them so hard they won’t come back!"

At the industrial sector, the battle had turned into a blazing one with Mayra’s explosive entrance; she delivered a fiery attack that exploded, launching the swarm of wendigos off of the winged monster girl just as Mariette created a portal under her, causing her to drop down to the Sanctuary. Mayra successfully destroyed three of the wendigos in the attack by striking their hearts with fire, and damaging six others, before the rest of the swarm assaulted her.

Deprived of their prey and with the taste of blood fresh in their fangs, the wendigos fiercely struck back despite their weakness against fire. Mayra fought valiantly, managing to strike one more wendigo through the heart before two wendigos headbutted her flanks, locking her in place with their antlers. She managed to swipe them away with her tail, but another wendigo managed to bite into her shoulder scales, ripping them off. Two other wendigos latched onto her tail, forcing her to recklessly swing and slam it around before they would release while slowing her down just enough for a wendigo to bit at her leg, and another to slash at her face, drawing three lines of blood on her cheek and over her nose. Despite the wounds she sustained, Mayra’s expertise in close-quarters combat paid off, as she managed to keep standing and not be pinned by the monsters, burning hotter from the intensity of the battle.

One of the wendigos that were slammed away crawled back up, only to be struck back down by a crimson spear that pierced its back. The monsters screeched and turned limp, having been drained of blood by Justine.

”Apologies, but I can’t sit idly by while these foul beasts yet draw cursed breath,” she spoke, and upon lifting her spear twirled it to parry the other wendigo’s claw swipe.

Meanwhile, Mariette set her sights on Hanna, who was about to be caught by the wendigos pursuing her at the circular rooftop of a factory building, having cut off her escape route.
“Get back!” She screamed, but the wendigos didn’t heed her words, growling as they sprinted up to her. Fortunately, the unlucky girl had two guardian angels watching over her from above; Mariette, who delivered bolts of light from above, and Shane, whose Thunderbird snatched one of the vile monster before blasting it with lightning that had frizzled its heart, seeping as ash out of the majestic mount’s talons like sand through fingers. Shane and his mount struck down thunderous retribution on the cannibals, giving time for Mariette to open a portal for Hanna. While the wendigos were distracted by one more turning into ash from a bolt of fury, Hanna jumped right in, too terrified of her plight to think of the consequences. She ended up dropping right next to the Sanctuary girls, who continued their battle against the wendigo horde.

When the wendigos saw their prey escape, and the two rescuers high above, they growled viciously. Then, they howled in unison, having formed a circle on the rooftop. As they kept howling, both Mariette and Shane saw Dina arrive on the back of a great eagle, when suddenly they felt something malignant in the air; cold winds picked up, like streaks of icy malice that dashed around them and carried the howls of the wendigos, shivering them like they were caught in a heavy rain of snow. Then, Mariette, with her Awareness heard it first; the sound of cawing that rapidly turned louder and louder until eventually they both saw the source of it.

A murder of crows, with soulless eyes and wings scattering black feathers, flew in to attack them, attempting to peck their eyes out. Even if they shot a few down, more would arrive from all around Penrose and the woods beyond, their endless cries ringing in their ears. To her horror, no matter how far Mariette escaped with her portals, birds flew after her in a frenzied flock, as if they were using her own Absolute Direction against her. Shane was also troubled, as the smaller birds easily overwhelmed the Thunderbird, causing it to shake in the air. Fortunately, Shane’s acrobatic mastery over riding animals ensured he wasn’t deterred by the turbulent flight.

The remaining monster girl who cried out after Hanna struggled before the wolf spirit she had conjured had dissipated, unable to bear the blows of the wendigos any longer. That was when Belladonna came to the rescue, proving herself even fiercer and sharper of claw than her adversaries as she cut down a wendigo and kicked another away, while only incurring a bite to the back of her neck that she shrugged off. Ashlyn, meanwhile, stayed to protect the newly-arrived Hanna, and Monica, who succeeded in enchanting their weapons with fire, enabling them to permanently slay the resurrecting beasts. Belladonna succeeded in destroying a wendigo, Ashlyn with two wendigos, and Monica another one with a swing of her axe. In return, the wendigos inflicted a headbutt that impaled one of Ashlyn’s lower arms and a slash on her back, a slash on Monica’s chest as well as a bite to her flank, and a bite of Belladonna’s tail, ripping some fur out.

At the Sanctuary, Mariette had brought the winged monster girl to the middle of the street, where she was immediately found by one of the locals, and brought to the local equivalent of an infirmary or sickbay. However, by the time she got treated by the local healers, it was too late; the winged monster girl, having suffered countless grievous wounds and loss of blood, didn’t survive Mayra’s fiery blast.

At the Penrose Bank, Mia called on the mighty forces of nature with her magic, and summoned amazing flora with the power to produce flame. The three fiery flowers surrounded the entrapped wendigos, and blasted them with the force of a wildfire, incinerating the beasts until only black ash remained. However, once the spell was cast, Mia felt her knees briefly turning weak; having called on such formidable magic was a costly affair, especially when invoked in a place as barren of the gift of life as in the cold, concrete streets of Penrose. Having been reduced to about a third of her mana reserves, Mia knew she had to be careful lest she transform back into her human form.

Ronin and Miko continued their 2v2 team match against the pair of wendigos. Their initial X-pattern didn’t confuse the wendigos, simple as they might be. However, their use of magic paid off, as both gust and guard were effective to grant them strikes against the enemy. The wendigo cut in the stomach dropped down in stance, now on the defensive as it kept its wounded area protected. The other wendigo managed to swing it’s antler just in time to prevent decapitation, cutting it off instead.

As a result, the beasts immediately ganged up on Ronin, having perceived her as the greater threat. They attempted to swipe and bite at her, managing to lightly shred one of her sleeves despite her evasive maneuvers. Left alone, Miko now had the opportunity to flank them, and delivered heavy blows that caused the two-antlered wendigo to slow down to a crawl. However, as they continued this dance, the two realized that the wendigos gradually regenerated, their wounds closing up shortly after being dealt. That was when Connie took her chance, and cast a nightmare spell against the slowed wendigo, catching it in the blast. The wendigo rolled around in mental agony like the ones she fought with Mia. However, the one-antlered wendigo, having kept close to Ronin, left Connie with no opportunity to safely launch her magic. However, it did distract the beast, who turned to Connie, hunger in its eyes.

But then, the dark gaze in its eyes suddenly dimmed, and it collapsed on the ground. It took only a glance at what had struck it to realize it was the work of a new arrival; a strange weapon resembling both a sword and a staff of fire was impaled through it’s back, and pierced it’s heart.

”Yay! Time to play!”

Ronin felt a cold shiver run through the entirety of her being, and into her very soul, when she heard a familiar voice greet her group from above. And as the girl landed on the street, her fears were confirmed;

It was Caroline von Visceral…And she had returned.

The vampire girl had a gleeful expression as it turned towards the other wendigo, howling in misery.

”Aww, that’s no fun! You should play with Caroline!”

The monster girl summoned her flame-wreathed weapon, and with a haphazard slash, bisected the large monster, once again having struck it in the heart as if by accident. However, Ronin and Miko could tell she didn’t hit either beast in their weak point accidentally, only making it look as if she did with her careless movements. When the monster scattered into ash, Caroline giggled.

”Whoo, that was fun! Caroline loves to play!”

Then, as if she had only then noticed the magical girls around her, she slowly turned to look at them, her body moving unnaturally like a puppet with a few cut strings. First, she looked at each girl with an unsettlingly happy expression, only for her gaze to finally linger on Connie; it seems she didn’t recognize Ronin or Miko.

”Hi! Wanna play with Caroline? Caroline just loves to play games!”
In her red eyes eyes, Connie could see a ravaged soul, numbed by madness.

She then put a finger to her lip, swinging her head back and forth with a whimsical expression.

”But Mother said Big Sis is nearby, and Caroline wants to find Big Sis. Can you tell Caroline where Big Sis is-sis-is?” She then whispered softly afterwards to nobody in particular: ”Big Sis is…”

At the hospital, Alicia and Aurelio found a new ally in their midst…Or, at least a person willing to fight the wendigos instead of them at that moment. Sanngridr’s rain of blades successfully halted the initially rushing monsters, causing some to fall down and a couple to flee as the sharp constructs then shimmered, burning a couple of wendigos and outright destroying one with a blade lodged in it’s chest, causing it to dissolve into ash.

Aurelio drew forth the emotion of ravenous need for sustenance that the wendigos represented in their very essence, and applied that power, mixed with his indignation, as an enchantment to Alicia. The spell enabled her arrows, already capable of seeking foes, to do so with even more potency, with a hunger for their frozen hearts. However, as a side effect, Alicia felt her stomach slightly grumble, as if she had skipped a meal before heading out.

However, that wasn’t the last trick in the Magnificent’s show, as he then summoned a clone that channelled the power of Hunger into duplicating illusions of him and his allies. Six wendigos were initially confused by the trickery, and ran after the clones, snapping and clawing at empty air, or even at each other, as the illusions intentionally led them to attack each other. Two remaining wendigos were not fooled, and reached both Aurelio and Alicia.

Alicia took aim, and with arrows enchanted by Aurelio, managed to hit three wendigos in the heart with sunlight arrows, incinerating them from the inside with displays of shimmering sparkles. She also managed to hit two other wendigos, slowing them down with hits to their limbs. One of these was a wendigo heading straight for her, while another was in the crowd. The remaining wendigo, having reached Aurelio, snapped it’s jaws around his leg, immobilizing him as two more wendigos recovered from the illusions, and now rushed towards Alicia.

At the Business District, the couple curled up with a scream as they saw the violet projectiles flying right at them, or rather at the wendigos that have gathered around the car. But then, they blinked as they saw Penny extend her long limbs to shield them from the brief specks of violet explosions. The car suffered a few dents from the attack, adding to the numerous collection the vehicle had suffered from the monsters’ attack. However, Penny then applied her Metal magic in a restorative fashion, smoothing out the sheets and even mending fractures and broken pieces back together. Even damage that was irrelevant to the incident, such as some rust on the underside or a wobbly exhaust pipe, was fixed.

Ka’ris struck the final nail in the wendigo pack’s coffin; what few monsters had managed to survive Penny’s onslaught were obliterated by the Gravity-manipulated crystal payload, the violet light having blown them up into ash. The remaining wendigos, subdued by MDP’s powerful yet pacifist magic, were then swiftly eliminated by Penny’s lightning.
Once the fighting was over, and Penny had turned away from the car to address both girls, the couple seemingly decided to take their chance and flee, turning sharply with their car and driving away as fast as they could. It wouldn’t be long before Penny was alerted by Snoopy, the drone having opened comms with Elora: “There’s a large group over at the industrial sector, coordinates attached,” she heard the cybermancer reporting in.

The blue wendigos crashed into the wall Alexander created; the first one, who seemed to act as the pack alpha, broke its horns as it fell down in a heap. The others had slammed into the wall, also deterred by the obstacle, but by that point the wall had absorbed so much damage it cracked. However, they succeeded in drawing the attention of the monsters, who snarled as they turned towards the two of them.

Alex delivered death from above with his sword, slaying one of the fell beasts. Lily turned and skidded to a screeching halt before jumping off the bike, letting it crash wheels-first into the two wendigos at the front who were about to rush Alex.

”I oughta give you a ticket for speeding!" Lily yelled, and launched a volley of thunder arrows, managing to hit the two wendigos tripped by the motorcycle as well as the third one running in from behind them. However, even as the wendigos were paralyzed, they were stomped on by the remaining two wendigos, including the alpha with the broken antlers and a smaller one with antlers in the shape of a wreath. The alpha wendigo attacked one of Alex’ clones, destroying it with a feral chomp of its jaws before the clone managed to react before attempting to do the same to the real Alex, while the wreathed wendigo slammed the other clone out of its way in pursuit of Lily.

”Oh, you want more of this! Come and get it!"
Lily began to run on foot, accelerating herself to a fast enough speed to stay one step ahead of the swift monsters. That was when the paralyzed wendigos recovered, and started to run towards the side. Lily immediately realized their intent.

”They’re trying to flank us!"

Justine nodded, managing to smile a bit from Maura’s maternal gesture.
”Oh, um…Thank you,” she responded, and sat down at the table.
When Maura brought up the types of appropriate meal, Justine shook her head.
”Anything’s fine with me, Mistress. Please don’t worry about it.”
For a moment, she silently ate the waffles that Maura prepared, and carefully wiped her mouth with a handkerchief, looking down at the plates.
”It’s been a long time since I’ve eaten properly like this,” she spoke softly, and stood up from the table.
”Thank you for the breakfast, Mistress. I’ll be, um, careful.”
After one last curtsy, she left, her mind wandering to memories of a past life. That sense of nostalgia only strengthened the conclusion she arrived at:

Caroline…You’re in Penrose, aren’t you?

“Eat this, Beacon scu-AHH!”
The dark magical brought her blade high up, aiming to stab it right in the back of the hapless Beacon girl’s neck, when it was suddenly blasted right out of her hand by a beam of light, causing her to stumble backwards. The two monster girls were also startled, the winged girl having stepped backwards towards a pile of dead wendigos, lightly nudging a skull.
“H-Hey, what’s the big idea, you stupid-” She exclaimed, only to freeze as she saw the Beacon girl sink through the floor, passing through some kind of passage, followed by Mariette’s cool entrance; the eyepatched girl’s emotionless countenance seemed to intimidate the corrupted girls.
“Y-Your protection? Why would you protect them when-” the formerly stoic, now unsettled, monster girl protested, but the dark magical girl lifted a hand to silence her.

“Look, we’re just looking for some shelter. And based on the glims we read, we reckoned we’d go to the Sanctuary. S-So it’s fine, no big deal. We’ll just be on our way-”
Monica then asked about the hearts, and the winged girl leaned her head to the side with a quizzical expression. “What hearts? We just showed up when this lamphead stabbed the last one, and-”

She didn’t finish her sentence, as she suddenly tripped, having been bitten in the leg by a wendigo. And the moment she did, the entire pile of dead wendigos, at least twelve in number, swarmed her. She screamed horrifically as the monsters tore into her, having disappeared under a mass of beasts in a feeding frenzy.

Of course, those were not the only wendigos to rise from the dead, as the rest of the wendigos lifted themselves up. Monica, having expected the possibility of the wendigos resurrecting, was not surprised. The moment two wendigos pounced on her, she delivered a pre-emptive cleave of her burning axe, causing them to burst into flames as their frozen hearts were seared.
The sight of the flames caused the seven wendigos in the immediate vicinity to back off.
Belladonna was also not surprised thanks to her alertness, and clawed at the wendigo going after her, managing to knock the fiend away from her. The others in her group were surprised, and Ashlyn had to shrug off a wendigo biting her forearm, slamming it hard into the ground followed by shaking one that jumped on her back. A couple of wendigos even seemed to try and get Mariette by jumping up at her, but the eyepatched girl had ample Awareness of the noisy monsters to relocate herself out of the way.

The dark magical girl let out a blood-curdling scream, and ran away. “Hey, Hanna!” The stoic monster girl shouted, but was unable to follow as she fended off against five wendigos that quickly surrounded her, barely managing to keep them at bay with her summoned wolf spirit.
A pack of ten wendigos split off to chase after Hanna. Jumping up the industrial sector’s countless pipes and railings didn’t deter the beasts who climbed after her. The rest of the monsters stayed to attack the group, eight of them intending to feast on their bones while the rest were distracted with fresh meat.

Ronin and Miko descended to the entrance of the Penrose Bank, their blades drawn. As they landed, after two glints of steel, they sheathed their blades. And the moment their hilts clicked, blood sprayed from the wounds of the wendigo as they were struck, staining the cracked glass doors of the building and shocking the civilians inside. The monsters, however, were hardy, and did not fall from the sneak attack. They turned their attention to the twins and rushed to attack them, giving the civilians their chance to escape.

The first wendigo, infuriated by the attack, swiped a claw at Ronin, who managed to deflect the blow with a skillful twist of her blade as part of her Martial Training, though it did cause her to stumble off-balance from the weight of the strike. Miko, on the other hand, had to contend with the other wendigo’s headbutt; she managed to avoid being impaled by the antlers with a sideways dodge, but as a result her red skirt was torn, scratching her through it.
The two realized that going one-on-one with the monsters could easily end poorly for them.

On the other end of the street, Mia’s Pea Shooters made their mark on three of the four charging wendigo, peppering them with narcoleptic spores that slowed them down and caused them to swing their heads, seemingly dizzy. The fourth one managed to avoid the shots, but ended up tripping thanks to Mia’s backup plan of vines that burst from the ground. They were then subjected to horrifying visions courtesy of Connie’s dominion over dark dreams of dread.
As a result, the wendigos were incapacitated, howling loudly in their sleep with ear-screeching tones while clawing and biting at anything they could reach; this included the concrete street, the lamp post, each other, or even themselves.

Penny landed on the wendigo below her like a ten-ton weight, crushing the monster’s skull into fine dust. However, despite her dynamic entrance, the robotic rescuer knew the secret to the monsters, and with electricity fried the heart inside, causing the monster to twitch momentarily before it stopped moving, and dissolved into black ash.

The other wendigos turned their attention to Penny, and attempted rushing her, only to be hammered into submission by her additional appendages. At that moment, as Penny brutally eviscerated and cut apart the beasts without a change in her expression, she noticed how the passengers in the car had turned silent.

Meanwhile, at the convenience store, Magical Dream Princess unleashed her glittering, pastel-colored magic upon the wendigos eating frozen meats and chickens, and summoned simulacrums depicting anthropomorphized stylized hearts. Due to the lack of space within the tight aisles of the convenience store, the wendigos were unable to avoid being grabbed by the creatures, their immense strength fueled by MDP’s desire for peace and happiness. As they scrambled around like panicked animals, they were swiftly bonked in the head by yet another simulacrum, and thus were lulled to involuntary sleep.

As MDP brough the monsters outside, she saw Penny, covered in blood, as she performed electric executions on the maimed monsters with her spider-like extra limbs. She also that the passengers, having formerly screamed for their lives, were now shaking silentrly, in absolute terror at the robot girl before them.

At the hospital, Aurelio and Alicia gallantly stepped in for the rescue. Aurelio’s red clone, while not particularly devastating with his detonating cane slams, quickly roused the ire of the beasts, who turned their attention on the clone and quickly destroyed it, but not before the clone gave them one last explosion, scattering them around the courtyard of the hospital. The green clone was more successful, the monsters having failed to break through thanks to the green barrier he had generated. But while the beasts were feral, they were not deaf, and turned to rush the taunting clone.

However, before he shared his red comrade’s fate, Alicia shot at them with her bolts of bright light; to her surprise, she managed to hit one of the monsters in the heart, and it collapsed in a pile of dark ash, its heart having been burned by the intense sunlight stored in her arrows. However, it was not enough to deter the rest of the pack, who descended on green aurelio and caused him to disappear next. The two Beacon fighters could feel the red eyes of the nine remaining wendigos on them, and realized they might be in over their heads.

Sann, as usual, went to check on the dead drop, and found a letter there:
I’ve got a couple of new assignments for you. First off, I’ve recently hired some new muscle. Her name’s Coco, and she’s also known as the Sinner of Greed in Beacon’s books. Funny how many of them have appeared in Penrose, huh? I want you to keep tabs on her, see if she’s as legit as she claims to be, and report back to me. Wouldn’t mind if you dug up some dirt on her too. Whether you pose as a friend or foe to her to get the intelligence is up to you, as long as she doesn’t find out about this job. You can also earn a bonus by helping her complete her own gigs.

The second job involves a certain broad named Connie Williams. Find her, and give her a Black Coin alongside an offer for employment; we could use someone of her skills. If she vaccepts, guide her to Warehouse K. However, if she refuses, you are to take her to Valhalla instead.

Alongside the letter was a Black Coin. When she picked it up, the letter burst into flames, leaving no trace of her new assignments.
