With the ship going into a comms blackout and dropping to minimal power while the Captain was off ship; Val had decided to do much the same. Sitting in an out of the way corner of the common area, she had little need for anything like an actual bunk, she’d powered down most non-essential external systems, and had gone into a ‘Hyper-heuristic mode’ to work on a few programs and do some trouble shooting. Immersed in the accelerated computer time she’d worked on some new offensive programs, and their counter agents…just in case.

The other thing that ate up even her accelerated time frame was trying to find a memory leak in the Revenant’s computers. So far it was minor, only causing interment lag in some of the ship’s tertiary systems but it’s mere existence offended her on a professional level; the likely cause was sloppy coding during the ship’s initial construction. That said, actually finding the offending code was proving to me trickier than she’d expected.

Her audio input brought her back to ‘real time’ with the sound of heavy banging on a nearby door. Opening her eyes, Val slowly stood and moved until she could see the source of the noise; Moon hammering on Grayson’s cabin door. The diminutive medic was harassing Grayson to emerge from his lair to eat something, and hopefully shower. ”You know,” She said idly, smiling at Moon. ”Guys like that are why I’m glad I can turn my nose off.”

What passed for excitement seemed to be dying down, and she was about to retreat back into her own head, when she got an alert. Being tied into a data feed from the Revenant’s senors, she saw the shuttle as soon as the ship itself did. ”Captain’s back,” she called out to anyone in ear shot. ”Hope he’s got a line on some paying work.” She had an eye on some new software, but it only came in various flavours of ‘painfully expensive.’

Standing a fair sized 180 cm, and seemingly quite trim, her outward appearance belies significant weight. While it’s plain she’s had some cybernetic work done, what most folks don’t realize is that the only thing truly ‘human’ left of her is her brain, brain stem and spinal cord; all sealed in a very well armoured life support unit mounted in the chest cavity.

For clothing she’s generally seen in a blue/black skinsuit; in reality the suit is merely an ‘appearance profile’ of her dermal covering. The covering can replicate everything from ‘nude’ to ‘formal ball’ to ‘combat armour’ though its defensive capabilities remain largely the same.

• SinoArms S Type 40/A3 20mm Mass Driver - The SinoArms Type 40 is a more modern equivalent to the chemically fired ‘shotgun’. A multi-bank capacitor set up allows the user to fire a series of shots in rapid succession. The mass driver is also capable of firing a wide variety of rounds. Firing from a single rail, the Type 40 feeds from either of two 16 rounds tube magazines which run parallel to one another under the firing rail. She carries her spare ammunition in an integral 75 round magazine which is built into her abdomen.
  • Long Range Heavy Impact (LRHI) slug - A high-carbon steel slug with an effective range out to roughly 200 meters. [16 + 32]
  • Anti-Personnel Flechette Munition (APFM) - 20 high-carbon steel flechettes, which are bonded together with a thermally reactive polymer. Upon firing, the heat generated by the magnetic field causes the polymer to dissolve. Effective range 60 meters in a 100 centimeter group. [16 + 32]

• Nikomas Mod. 9 D.E.A. - The Mod. 9 Directed Energy Attachment is an under barrel laser add-on for any ballistic weapon with the correct rail set up. Fall off of the beam limits it’s effective range to a little over 150 meters depending on local conditions, but inside that range it is capable of disabling most standard types of powered armour. (The Type 40 and under slung Mod. 9 both draw power directly from her body so in the event someone disarms her, her weapon becomes inert.)

The ammunition itself is popular for use against light to medium un-powered armours, especially when used in a GPMG. The Type3/A2 however was a commercial flop as most users found the Group 2 ammunition too ‘hot’ to be controllable in a single-handed machine pistol; the semi-auto only Type 3/A1 is still a very popular pistol. • Cyberdyne Systems Total Cybernetic Mobile Frame - A high-end and fully customizable artificial body. Capable of withstanding light to moderate ballistic and laser attacks, it is powered by a class 3 micro fission reactor. All though the reactor does exceed the body’s power consumption needs, it is just enough to run the power hungry AD4 Processor and her weapons. A fully mechanical system with a sealed life-support unit for her organics, Val's body is several times stronger and faster than a normal human, though she currently lacks any advanced hand-to-hand combat software to make full use of such capabilities. The self contained nature of her organics means she is also capable of extended zero or toxic atmospheric operation without any extra equipment.
• TruSkin Dermal Covering - An re-configurable nanotech outer layer that is capable of limited self-repair, its defensive capability is factored in to her body’s ability to resist damage.
• Neural Interface Unit - A nano-mesh implanted throughout her organic systems, it collects, sorts and feeds all relevant data from the Mobile Frame directly into her nervous system allowing for total body immersion.
• AD4 Quantum Processor - Separate from her body’s CPU and the NIU, the AD4 and its 3 petabytes of data, it runs her cyberwarefare suite and stores a legion of nasty virus’, worms, trojans for her to inflict on hostile networks.
• ‘Gellar’ type Psi-amp - A fairly common, but high end psionic amplifier

Powers

Barrier - Creates a psionic ‘bubble’ that can resist most physical and energy strikes against it. Under optimal conditions it can be sustained for about five minutes.
Pulse - A strong ‘push’ that will knock back most unsecured objects. Can either be focused or omnidirectional.
Psi-blade - Only visible to herself, it is a ‘blade’ of pure psionic energy that will bypass any physical barrier. It does no physical damage, but can induce significant electrical charges into the target stunning organics and overloading computer systems.

Combat Class/Role

Psionic/Crowd Control - Using her psionic powers she is best at close to medium ranges, using Barriers and Pulses to restrict enemy movements or defend allies; that said, mental fatigue brought on by over/continuous use of her powers may cause her to blackout.
Hacker/Cyberwarfare - As a hacker she can drag information out of the depths of almost any network she can access, and her ability to harass, delay or destroy hostiles is really only limited to the scope of the network she has hijacked and the quality of her connection to it.

History

Under a previous series of alias’ she made quite the name for herself as an independent contractor in the Expanse. Bit by bit, as she made enough capital, she either replaced or upgraded her hardware until only the organics she still has right now, remained. Unfortunately her wants usually exceeded her means and she had to do with lower-end components; but that changed a few months ago when she was hired by some Expanse kingpin to ruin a rival. She took the rival for everything, though she may have lied to her employer about exactly how much that was.

With a generous payout from the individual who hired her, and her own careful ‘redistribution’, she bought the hardware she currently has, along with some more nasty software, and was promptly broke again. Needing a source of income, and stuck on a nowhere space station, she talked her way onto the Revenant one day when it docked for supplies.
