“Gee whiz, look at the time! Bid Daddy, I'm off now.” Hanging up his apron in his locker, Shawn gave the aging cook a wave. He grabbed his jacket, throwing it on as he started to leave. His shift ended an hour ago, but he always got caught up in the rush and ended up leaving when it was dark outside. It should not be a big deal, but a black man like himself should not be out on the streets after curfew.

The place he worked at was the only colored diner in town, not that there was a sign that said “no whites allowed.” The owners would not mind at all if some peaceful white folk wanted to come inside to dine. Shawn doubted that would happen anytime soon.

Shelly was a tall gal and her husband Randy was a short guy with a huge fro to make him seem taller. Shawn thought they were the grooviest couple he knew. He was older than both of them by at least ten years. They often teased him because he did not have a lady friend and he was pushing thirty.

“Just a moment, Shawn.”

Pausing, he turned around to see the cook walking over to him. The cook placed a bag in his hands. Shawn grinned, feeling a flush come to his cheeks. All the money he had was used to pay his rent and to care for his little sister. There were many days when Shawn went without eating so that she could. Big Daddy knew this.

“Thank you, Leroy.”

Leroy was like a father to Shawn. He was nearly seventy, though he didn't let that stop him.

“There is enough there for you and a lady friend.”

Shawn rolled his eyes. “Oh daddy'o, you know I don't have a sweetie in my life.” Everyone thought Leroy was somewhat “out to lunch” but he was a great guy. Shawn took the food, knowing it would be his only meal until tomorrow night.

“If you write more of your fancy music, you can reel one in,” Leroy said with a barking laugh.

Next to his sister, music was Shawn's life. He could play almost anything and even had a decent voice, if he thought so himself. Everyone at the diner always asked about his music.

“I'll keep that in mind,” He told him. Leaving the store, he looked around, wary of what could be waiting around the corner. He was not a huge man, though not a small man by any means either and he knew a thing or two about defending himself. His Momma made sure they learned young. He hadn't been targeted in his adult years, but he remembered as a child, how often he would get teased and in the worst cases beat to a bloody pulp.

If a black kid hit a white kid, he'd find himself in loads of trouble, but if a white kid hit a black kid, it seemed nobody cared, or else everyone was too afraid to do anything about it.

Not Shawn. He'd defend a kid, even an adult, if he saw someone messing with them.

About to turn the corner that would lead to his street, his ears pick up something they shouldn't be hearing, at least three guys hooting and hollering and the sound of a girl pleading for them to leave her alone.

'I won't let this go. It's a low blow for anyone to be ganging up on a woman, no matter her skin color.'

When he ran around the corner, he got a big shock, because the boys were white as he expected, but the girl was white as well.

'Picking on their own kind?' He took one look at the woman and saw that her dress had been ripped, she had a bruise on her cheek and her things were scattered around her feet. The boys looked about fifteen or sixteen, all smartly dressed. Rich kids.

'They are aiming to gang-' He couldn't even finish his thought. The idea was too repulsive for him to think.

'I have to make sure she is safe! I have to step in. Think about this being your sister. You would hope someone helped her! How can they do this to her?' Shawn put down his package, cracked his knuckles and ran head first into the main kid, the one who looked to be the leader. Everyone was shocked to see a big black guy pop out of nowhere. To these boys he must really seem huge, because now that he was closer, he saw that they were just skinny little kids.

He could only imagine the terror that must be in the girl's eyes, but he hoped she realized he was trying to help. Most whites distrust blacks. Shawn couldn't blame her if she felt wary. It was how they were raised.

The first kid got a punch to the gut. He doubled over in pain and Shawn held back, giving him a chance to run. The other two seem unsure if they should attack him or flee.

“Go,” He grunted to them. “Now.”

The sound in his voice got the two followers moving. They looked at each other with wide frightened eyes and raced away, leaving their leader cursing after them. The leader took a step toward Shawn as if to attack, but stopped.

Taking a step back, he glanced at the girl quickly to make sure she was out of harms way, almost missing the knife the kid pulled. He came toward him with a yell.

“Big mistake.” And it was a big mistake, because now his life had been threatened and his only choice was to protect myself. He sidestepped, grabbed the arm that held the knife and twisted. He heard a crunch.

'I know I broke something. Part of me regrets having to go that far and I can only hope the girl doesn't think I'm a monster.'

The boy dropped to the ground, tears coming to his eyes.

“Don't ever do this again, you hear me? You go home and you tell your friends.” He nudged him, bent down and picked up the dropped knife. “Go. Rethink your values.”

The boy stood up and ran as if the devil chased after him. He looked again at the girl, trying to figure out if her terror was because of what he had done to the boy or because of what the kids might have done to her if he had not showed up.

He went over to her. “Are you all right lady?” He offered her his hand, knowing the chance of her taking it was not very good.
A role play that deals with some sensitive subjects, so be warned. Set in the late 50s, so racism will be in this. None of the racism expressed by characters within are of my opinion. Sensitive words will be also used. I'm sure you know the ones. It's not meant to be 100& accurate. I'm not a history buff/genius.

----

Name: Shawn
Age: Pushing 30

Personality: He tries to be everyone's best pal, excluding the white folk, because they will not be his friend. He is very selfless. Thinks of others before himself. Has got hurt because of this before, such has defending someone being best up. Will go hungry so that his sister can eat. Laughs a lot. Likes to talk. Is a dreamer. Hopes one day that the world, whites included will enjoy his music.

Bio: He is just a normal, every day guy who works at at diner. He works as much as possible to pay rent and feed his sister. His parents were killed when his sister was younger. Everyone on the black side of town knows him. It's like a big family. He only deals with hatred and racism rarely because he does not usually try to be around any white folk, but things will surely change after he saves a white lady from a group of teenage punks.

Times are also just starting to change. Black folk are now being allowed into white's school and work place, but it is a slow process. Not everyone is happy about this.
That sounds like it could work. Also since the parents are good about throwing their kids at someone else, the kids could end up staying with my families Nanny quite a lot. Maybe both sets of parents are rich and kind of snobby?

What are the names of your kids and ages. Also you can pick the names for your kid's parents.

My parents names will be Harold and Tabitha. The Nanny is named Alice. ;)
Nope, nope, it's all good!

Shall I post the first rp post?
I think you write very well. Don't let my first post up there fool you. I am rusty, but I was on a roll with that one. I would love if you would want to be my partner.

Your character would just be a young (early 20s) white school teacher. The rest of her is up to you. Shall I put this in the 1x1 section?
Yes. One of my characters is Nathan, obviously. I'm going to say he's about 9 years old. He has two younger sisters, Sarah (7) and Julia (5). They have a mother/father family, and live with a live in nanny (also NPC)

You can have a similar family, but make it up how you want. It does not have to be 3 children, but I thought 6 main characters was a good round number. lol

Emily, parents and other people are NPC, unless we decide otherwise.

Edit: Do you want them to all be in the same family? There could be 4 children in one family. I could be Nathan and Julia. You could be blank and blank (pick your own names and ages) Whatever you think is best.

There is an evil being who looks like the ghost of a little girl. (Think Japanese horror movies) She believes she is doing what is right because when she was alive, as she was once a human, she was tortured and killed by the very people who were supposed to protect her. So now she spends her afterlife, stalking little children who are mistreated by their parents. She plans on killing the parents. It is up to these small children to stop this evil child.

Bottom post is a prelude into the role play.

The little dark-haired girl was there again, standing with her head titled to the side, eyes wide open and her pupils darting back and forth. She was always there; waiting, watching, and planning. She was always where children would see her, whether that was at a park, in their home, or at their school. This time she was following a little brown haired boy and his mother as they were on their way to the market.

A small haunting, yet sad smile fluttered to her ruby red lips. She knew her purpose; knew what she was sent back to do. She had to get rid of the evil on this Earth. For the children. For the children.

-------

"Heavens child, what is wrong with you?" The redheaded woman pulled on her child's arm. "Stop standing there. We're going to be late!" She snapped her fingers in front of the boy's face, but the dazed like look, almost eerie, did not waver. His mouth was slightly open, his small frame shaking. Her could see her again. The little girl who was there one minute and when he looked away and back again, she would be gone, but this time she was there no matter how many times he looked away. She was just standing and staring across the street as traffic passed in-between them.

The woman sighed. "Nathan!" She looked across the parking lot to the small store that was going to be closing in ten minutes. She pulled on his arm again a little too roughly, anger building up in her. She yelled his name several more times, but could not get his attention away from the street.

Still the boy stared. He couldn't look away from the little girl this time.

"NATHAN!"

Nothing.

The little girl rubbed her hands together. "It will be tonight, Nathan," she told him. "Don't worry Nathan, Emily is coming. Emily will save you."

"You don't like your mommy, do you, Nathan?" The girl asked, coming closer to the frozen boy and his mother. Each time the girl got closer, it was like she only moved when Nathan's eye blinked; she didn't seem to be moving at all.

Tears started to run down Nathan's cheeks.

"Oh My God! Somebody!" His mother cried, pulling the boy into her arms. The red color of his tears looked exactly like blood, though how was that possible.

Drip. Drip. Drip.

The tears of blood continue to pour from his eyes; his white colorless pupils void of all life; his body trembled. Was he having a seizure?

"Nathan!"

"Midsummer Nights..." Emily whispered, looking up at the Heavens. "I will rid the world of the evil on midsummer nights, like they ridded the world of me..." She spoke in a child-like voice that sounded sad and scary at the same time.

Ethan passed out.
Will do!!! WOot woot!
Yes, yes, yes, please.

I must warn you that after viewing your writing skills, I'm a little nervous because I am so rusty. I want to be between high casual and advance, but I don't know how good I actually can be. So bear with me.

So what I think is we each have 3 children. Emily (the ghost) has targeted these children and their parents because in Emily's eyes the children are being mistreated (yelled at, parents fight in front of them, leaves them with nannies too much, takes them for granted, for example). So Emily wants them killed, but she is starting off slow, stalking the kids and parents (only the kids can see her) and trying to convince the kids that she is doing right by them. Obviously the kids are freaked and don't want their parents to be tortured and killed, but they are kids, what can they do? Well, since they are the only ones who can see Emily, they better figure out something soon.

I guess, you can think of this role play in the same atmosphere as a Asian horror movies (Ju on, Ringu, One Missed Call, for example)
