Bio: Chief Givens is the highest ranking officer in the ASA Indianapolis. He reports directly to the director of the FBI and occasionally the vice President and President. Very often he ends up in the middle of political drama but does his best to shield his agents from getting caught in the crossfires.
He is very by the book and sometimes seems somewhat cold. He tries to stay out of the agent’s dealings on a day to day basis, but will intercede and get involved where he sees it is necessary. He tries to manage a fine line between letting the agents work autonomously but also keep a tight hold on things.
It is known that he is an SN as there is a file on him, but that file is locked to anyone and he never speaks of it. He also never smiles.
He didn’t know what time of the day it was and to be honest, he didn’t care. He had two days off and nothing to do so he’d spent last night drinking. He thought it was last night, but come to think of it, he didn’t know what time his activities started yesterday either. In fact, he took a moment to check his internal HUD and confirm what day it was.
As he walked, he allowed his electronic internals adjust his metabolism and hormone levels so that he was a bit more functional. He rubbed his temples, looking up and happy that the sun was obscured down here, knowing that had it been shining, it would have been painful. A few steps later, he felt himself level out some and noticed a pair that seemed somewhat polar opposites. She looked like a burnout and he looked like he should be arresting her for something. As he approached he realized he recognized the female from somewhere. Maybe some club or bar, or maybe the streets, but he seen her around. The other guy, he wasn’t familiar at all. He looked at attire and he was a cop, but he wasn’t local, so Josh didn’t worry. The guy may be dangerous, but so was Josh. And it wouldn’t be the first time he had tangled with the brass, he just tried to avoid it.
“Friend? I don’t have any friends,” he replied with a slight smirk. He stopped and looked over the two one more time before looking around, checking out his surroundings out of habit. “Anything shakin’ tonight?”
Name: Lazlo Bragimov. Nickname: The Ukrainian. Yook. Age: 27. Height: 6'5" Weight: 210. Hair: Blue. Eyes: Black. Status: Mutant. Abilities: Lazlo’s first ability is heightened sense. He can hear, see, sense things at higher level than normal humans. His vision is extremely acute and he can see very long distances. His other ability is that once he is completely still and focused, he can essentially become indestructible. He must concentrate extremely hard and it must remain unbroken for the entire time. This also physically exhausts him the longer he utilizes it.
Birth place: Rolov, Ukraine.
History: Lazlo was born and raised in the Ukraine. He worked at a young age in the rural area as his family owned a farm and raised livestock and crops. On his off time, he worked in the village with a cobbler to make money to go to school, also in his off time. He learned English and a variety of other subjects that made him more than just a farmboy.
When the tensions of the world started building up, Russia and its satellites went into a state of military frenzy, similar to the cold war days. Armies were made, territories redrawn and eventually Lazlo’s family lost their farm. His mother and father put together enough money to send him to America to work and get enough money to bring them over, but that was never to happen as the world began to spiral lower and lower. And then the aliens came.
Eventually after the smoke cleared and various degrees of conflict started, Lazlo started joining whatever resistance movement he could.
Personality: Lazlo is loud, talkative, and social. In spite of the world’s state, he doesn’t seem too negatively affected by it. He drinks when he can and enjoys down time almost as much as he enjoys killing aliens. He has a noticeable Ukrainian accent when he speaks English.
Name: Christy Mareno. Age: 22. Hair: Black. Eyes: Brown. Weight: 135 pounds Classification: Magic user – Offensive elemental mage. Powers: Most of her spells are fire and electricity based, including projectiles, barriers, and charging traps.
Picture:
Bio: Born in Portland OR, she was raised in a more tolerable environment than a lot of first generation enhancers as her parents were basically hippies. She became aware of her powers well before everything became public and her parents didn't react negatively, although they did hide it from anyone else.
A lot of her initial lessons were self taught, but eventually her parents found a LoM teacher and sent her away. She returned back to her parents for a year before leaving to find a life of her own, one that brought her from local law enforcement to the to ASA.
Personality: Christy is very talkative and friendly. She is what some may call liberal. She is very peaceful in spite of her job that is occasionally violent, but she looks at it being necessary to stop violence with violence on occasion.
Name: Tom Groves. Age: 24. Hair: Brown. Eyes: Brown. Weight: 210 pounds Classification: Magic user – summoner. Powers: Can summon physical objects to him, and teleport object he had in his hands to a place. The objects must be visible, or he must have a very pristine mental image of where they are to be able to do so. Using his magic taxes him physically and mentally based on the frequency of use and the size of the object.
Picture:
Bio: Tom was born and raised around Chicago and joined the Marine Corps, serving for 4 years. He got out and eventually went to school and in the middle of transitioning from school to working, the world changed. Out of nothing but curiosity, he took a government test to see if he was imbued with any SN power and it was discovered that he was. His military training made it an easy transition into the government job and he was tutored by a League teacher in the ways of a summoner. Most of his powers center around him being able to summon things to him but he can also additionally summon things he touched and have them appear elsewhere, so long as he has a pristine mental picture of the location.
As a kid, Tom’s father left and he was essentially working to help his mother pay for the bills around the house. His mother was a huge part of her life, but she’d passed away several years ago.
Personality: Contrary to his background and abilities, he's somewhat of a quiet individual and some would call him a closet nerd as in his off time, he plays video games, talks about comics and the such. While generally silent and insulated initially, he's one of the most selfless, duty orientated individual and extremely loyal to those who he calls friends.
Just for the record: Azseth don't care. I'm here to RP. If I am not posting, it's because I'm either busy, or waiting on other players. I am not a player who needs constant posting to keep myself involved. If it takes a week, I don't give a shit. I never rush things, and I'm ok with the GM doing the same.
Age: 25. Hair: Brown Eyes: Hazel Height: 6'4". Weight: 210 pounds Classification: Eccentric but assumed mundane. Powers: As an eccentric, he can manipulate his body in various ways. Some examples include altering muscle mass, or skin density. He is learning his powers, and how to use them, but also making sure it stays hidden from anyone. He can still be enhanced, making him a valuable “mundane” member of the team. Picture:
Bio: Born and raised in eastern Missouri, Stanley never really had it easy. He was the second of two sons and from an early age, the parents gravitated to his older brother. While Stan was quiet and withdrawn, his brother was outgoing, charismatic, and into sports. His father was also was of the prior generation where things were different and masculinity was an extremely important aspect of life. His dad also struggled with depression and alcohol, occasionally becoming abusive, mainly towards Stan and occasionally his mother.
Being a quiet and reclusive wasn’t a good thing in Missouri, especially since as a white kid, he was a minority. His brother went to a separate school because of their age gap, so there was no help there. Add the lack of confidence and somewhat anti-social tendencies because of the relationships with the parents at home, things just kind of got worse. He took up boxing and then mixed martial arts around that time, working to be able to do it as his parents didn’t know, or care.
His brother got a scholarship to a major university and both parents could not have been more proud. It actually was a bit nice because the parents both showed Stan a bit more attention at that point, but that didn’t last very long. In his junior year at high school, he was involved in a fight with three other students and there was some pretty bad damage to all the students. When Stan’s parents were called away, they left the oldest son at home as he was visiting for a holiday. They had no idea that a group of criminals intended to rob the place and had been waiting for them to leave.
When they entered, they didn’t know anyone was home and there was a confrontation that led to the son being stabbed to death. While it was hard on the family all around, much of the family—especially the mom and dad, blamed Stan. Of course, just like anything bad that happened, it was his fault. Several days after the death and funeral, Stan left the house, graduating the next year.
For about 2 years, he traveled the country working odd jobs and ultimately fighting. He enjoyed it and while he wasn’t a professional, he won enough times and enough money to keep moving place to place. Not long after, he joined the Marines and served 1 tour in Iraq and 1 in Somalia. After being discharge, he joined the police and married a girl he’d met in the service. The two divorced about a year and a half later. As an officer, he was notoriously difficult to work with and didn’t open up to partners much, if at all. He’d also volunteer at the worst areas and work many tactical deployments because of his military training. This led many partners to bail quickly as it seemed he had issues with aggression and had little regard for his health or safety. With mixed reviews, he was eventually recommended to the ASA and accepted.
Personality: Stan is tormented. He struggles with degrees of depression (undiagnosed) and is often self loathing. He has a low sense of self and sometimes thinks the only thing he can do to make himself important is to do good things--even at the expense of himself. He’s still quiet and withdrawn and turns to drinking on occasion.
Deep down, he’s a good person who wants to do good but battles his past, much of which he hasn’t explored with anyone else. He definitely has issues with his sense of identity and seems unable to move out of the past and become something more than a continuation of his past.
Bio: Originally Kenji Grazuyai, he now goes by Kenneth (Ken) Granderson. Kenji is actually originally from Japan but has not been there in over a hundred years. He was born into a samurai family that ended up traveling to Africa where he was bitten by a hyena but survived. He didn’t know at the time, but that was another werehyena and he was infected at that point. Upon his return to Japan he got sick and started experiencing odd changes, vivid dreams, and seemed to be having animalistic urges. He changed one day and was fortunate enough to harm no one and not be seen. When he told his family about it, they banished him, cursing him for a demon.
After that, he stayed in the woods, learning to deal with his powers and cope with his changes. He eventually started to get a solid grasp on his abilities and what it meant to be a skinchanger. This allowed him to move back into society, this time working as a ronin under a new name. After several close calls with people who recognized him, he decided to go to America and start over.
It was rough and in his time here, he has seen people live and die, he’s fought in wars, started new lives and witnessed much. In that time, because he was not in a clan and had no ties to other supernaturals, he was extremely lonely. The only times he’d met another changer, the two ended up fighting to the death. This happened about 4 times. He wasn’t sure if it was because they were other breeds, or on their territory, but he hadn’t had a good encounter until the early 1900’s.
He met a werewolf at that time who explained that skinchangers were generally hostile towards each other, especially over territory. But as the world got more civilized, so did a great many clans and they tended to be more open to others now. The wolf also mentioned that Kenji was an odd breed of changer, having never seen a hyena changer before. He also mentioned how that breed was odd in that they were matriarchal, led by females which was not common at all.
From then on, Kenji went on living, searching for a clan but having no success. Eventually, he joined the ASA after they tracked him down. On top of a noble job, he hoped to be exposed to something in terms of a clan or network of people where he could be more at ease and more of himself.
Personality: Kenji is very quiet and guarded but he isn’t uninviting. He is slow to bond but can eventually once he believes he can trust someone. For the first time in his life, he is not hiding or acting and it’s finally starting to sink in and relax him. In combat he’s very violent and aggressive.
1995. Over 5 years since the various supernatural entities and organizations raised the curtain that they had been hiding behind for centuries. Some say it was pressure from the younger generations, some say it was the elders wanting the prestige that they deserved and some say it was the Wellington murders. Regardless of what you believe, you now know that werewolves and witches aren't just kids stories and cool movies anymore. Some call it Thee Day, some Pandora and others the Opening (along with a myriad of others, some less pleasant) but whatever you call it, things aren't the same anymore, plain and simple.
For the first year or so, the world was pretty shook up and many people all over the world lashed out at supernaturals (SNs), and some of them attacked back in turn. America gradually stabilized, as did most other civilized countries and the Unity Act was instituted. At that point, ANY individual with ANY power described under the Unity act needed to be registered and could be investigated or monitored at any time, same as any human owning any fire arm or eccentric weapon. Failure to register known powers was a crime, the severity based on the knowledge of powers.
Eventually the US government created the Agency of Supernatural Affairs (ASA, sometimes referred to as ASNA) and this group was to monitor SNs, deal with individuals who violated or missed registrations or those who were in gross violation of the Unity Act.
As of now there are certain social policies that target SNs. For example, any law enforcement officer can ask any SN at any time for their certification, and SNs cannot run for any political office. But the more things change, the more they stay the same. The world didn't stop turning, people and nations moved forward, to more or less of a degree.
Welcome to Earth.
SN: Supernatural. Any magic user, augment, lycanthrope, vampire or whatever else have you.
ASA: Agency of Supernatural Affairs. See below. Also called ASNA on occasion.
LoM: League of Magic. See below. Also called The League on occasion.
UA: Unity Act. See below.
Yarl vs Alabama: This case involved an SN who stole a purse and was shot by local police. The case went to the Supreme Court and it was ruled that just being an SN does not authorize the use of deadly force. Just because a vampire for example, is drunk and disorderly does NOT mean that the individual can be treated any different than a "normal" person committing the same crime. Basically, if Yarl hadn't been an SN, he'd have been chased down and apprehended, not just shot.
Unity Act: All SNs must be registered to the local branch of the ASA. The ASA works closely with the ATF who handles ALL registered weapons (any and all fire arms must be registered without exception). The Unity Act give law enforcement the right to have an individual show certification at any time, although it does not allow harassment.
League of Magic: Governing body on magic. All trained individuals must be endorsed by both the LoM and the gov't. It is forbidden for any individual to train in more than one school of magic and this crime is punishable by either body.
The Test: The most simple way for the gov't or League to tell if someone is an SN or normal is to have a basic enhancement cast. Nightfire is one such spell that when cast, it simply illuminates the target. At that point, if the test is positive, more testing to narrow down the power may be necessary.
"Normal" or "mundane": a normal person. The key advantage to being human is that magical enhancements can be cast ON you (strength enhancement, night vision, water breathing etc). While other races have certain powers, no magic can affect them as buffs or enhancements.
Eccentric: This is a normal or mundane human who, by some genetic anomaly, has a unique power. This power is undetectable for the most part and these humans can STILL be enhanced. This power can be anything from an abnormally high IQ, to telepathy to a heightened healing factor. They can be useful on a personal level, employment level or power level. Some may not even know they have a power, it may just be a part of their every day life and written off as nothing. There is no actual way to prove or show someone is an eccentric.
Enhancement: This is magic that alters a human. It can create hard skin, water breathing, whatever.
Enchantment: This is magic that alters a non-human thing. It can make a coin float, a rock explode or make a wall transparent for example.
The Wellington Case: The Wellington case involved a group of rogue magic users breaking into a house and then terrorizing, torturing and eventually killing an entire family, but there were several twists. One, the entire house was video monitored, so the video evidence blatantly displayed what at the time was simply "unexplained phenomena." Additionally, the Wellington's 19 year old son was a technomancer, although he didn't know it. The second prior to his death, he entered his conscious mind into a lap top computer in sheer panic. When the computer was looked at for evidence, detectives were baffled when, after being turned on, messages started to type out giving names, descriptions and literally communicating. Eventually, between the video evidence and the boy's testimony via laptop, the 4 murderers were convicted. This ultimately led to mankind openly and actively seeking out and taking unsanctioned and illegal actions against SNs for the first time since medieval and colonial times and put much pressure on the various SN factions to come out.
More to come...
Werebeasts: Also called lycanthropes, skin changers, wild walkers. They are the were-creatures of legends, including werewolves, wereboars, wererats and weretigers. They have the ability to change form at will, but each change take a huge physical toll without sleep and sustenance. They will have constant heightened senses shared with the animal they can change to but do NOT always exhibit the traits of those animals. All werebeasts CAN utilize 3 forms; human, bipedal and fauna. However, some clans, groups or individuals can/will only utilize one or two based on religious beliefs, internal policy or simply not having been trained to make the proper change.
They are agitated by silver (depending on the individual, it can cause itchy skin to cysts) and highly susceptible to cobalt, which is extremely fatal. High amount of copper will generally lead to serious reactions like partial paralysis, comas or severe muscle cramping. A werebest in human form will heal about 10% faster, in bipedal form, they heal 25% faster and in fauna form, they'll heal about 40% than a normal human.
Werebeasts can be born or bitten. They have been reported to live for over 800 years.
Vampires: There are many families of vampires with a vast amount of different social habits and tendencies, but all are the same in regards to physical characteristics. They occasionally need blood to survive. Human blood is the most fulfilling and vampires get the most nutritional value from it while animal blood is harder on the body and harder to break down. Vampires have severe reactions to direct sunlight but the reaction to sunlight in general can be less severe for short periods. Long periods of exposure regardless will start to get more and more severe.
Vampires are mildly affected by gold and can get rashes, confusion or nauseous from it. Like many SN races, cobalt is extremely fatal to them. Holy water affects them like pepperspray would affect a human. Vampires cannot reproduce sexually, they can only be bitten/turned.The life expectancy of a vampire is directly related to how much human blood it drinks. One drinking only human blood can live anywhere from 1,000 to 2,000 years while one almost never drinking human blood can be expected to live 150 to 250 years.
Telanthrop:
The ASA.
The ASA was formed shortly after the Unity Act was made active. This unit's primary function is to directly investigate or assist local authorities in the handling of SN related cases, and also tracking and maintaining the integrity of the Unity Act. It is made up of 3 parts:
Tactical: The guns. This group is comprised of both human and SN individuals. They are either training or shooting, or both and are outfitted with a myriad of technologies, many of which are available nowhere else. "Tac" is only called in when things are going to be handled via deadly force or if deadly force is imminent.
Investigations: These individuals will do anything from follow up on late/missing registration, complaints or assist other law enforcement agencies in suspected and confirmed SN related cases and stakeout suspected unregistered SNs. Many are selected from Tactical based on their mental capacity, although some do not see it as a "promotion" as knocking on an SNs door without a team with superior fire power isn't always something that is looked at positively.
Administrative: Everything else. Record keepers, computer techs and phone operators. The boring stuff.
Hey all. I'm a few sunsets over 30, and I live in Michigan.
I'm a former Marine, currently kind of going to school.
I've been RPing since AOL, so that's like <counts, then recounts, then sighs>, over 15 years.
I RP at an advance level.
I'm pretty awesome, but I'm kind of direct, prickly, and assertive in terms of the RPs I participate in and the people I RP with.
Feel free to drop me a line any time about pretty much anything.
Go easy.
