I'll drop an interest check here, there's another supers game I applied to that seems to be stalling, so I'll recycle Elastic Heroine Polymer. It's a versatile power set but she's weak to extreme temperatures, which I hope are common enough villain powers to balance it.
A large airship, bringing people and goods to the busy Haabin markets began to slowly turn as the Reavers were spotted. Alarms blared, people crushed against each other as some rushed for the lifeboats, and others to the cargo hold. The ship had basic defences, enough to make pirates think twice, but it's nowhere near enough to stand up to the random artillery fire coming from the Reavers. Too slow for evasion, all the transport can do is hope to get lucky. For a while, it's enough.
And then it isn't.
One of the airship's turbines belches green flames as a plasma blast ignites the metal itself, and the airship starts to drift. The turbine explodes, and the airship tips a full ninety degrees, sending a crowd tumbling overboard, screaming and flailing in the air.
All save for a single Ku, calmly falling, holding a T-pose. Smoke fires from her joints, and plates extend, tilt, and rearrange themselves into a new pattern, with fins for flight stabilisers. She flips over, and her feet fire rainbow flames that stop her falling. She points a finger-gun at the listing airship, and says "Pow!" as she 'fires'.
There's a rush of magic as a digital ghost is launched into the ship. A shipment of delivery drones find themselves with new instructions and break free of their storage, invalidating dozens of warranties. They zip straight past their ostensible owner, out into open sky, where they begin catching castaways.
Matrix turns to face the rescued travellers as the drones carry them to solid ground. She strikes a pose, and detonates a heart-shaped firework behind her, then turns and blasts off to engage the Reavers.
Racial Features: Cybernetic Body Digital Mind Matrix is an awakened AI, based on the neural patterns of the Ku. She is naturally compatible with their technology which includes a variety of robotic accessories and upgrades, the integration of which is aided by her Exaltation.
In addition, as an AI the digital world is an open book to Matrix. She can access WiFi, radio and other electronic communications within range as easily as thinking.
Matrix's robotic shell is bright and cute, several parts capable of glowing in a variety of colours. She resembles a cross between a dancer and a magician, making exaggerated poses and projecting lights as a performance for onlookers.
Matrix also uses a combination of physical transformation and holograms to adopt secret identities when she travels, revealing her true form only when needed. Her typical disguise is that of an ordinary Ku young woman.
Training: As an AI, Matrix can learn incredibly quickly. Not only does she have several encyclopedias worth of knowledge in her databases, she can also access local networks in range to download extra info as needed.
Among these extra sets of data are training simulations that she can run through in time-shifted virtualities, experiencing subjective days in microseconds.
Naturally, Matrix has practised with all her equipment and integrated systems, as well as hobbies like song and dance, games, and fashion.
Powers: Essence-powered transforming robot Matrix's robotic body superficially resembles those of an ordinary, if cutting-edge, Ku. Unlike regular Ku however, instead of a rechargeable power core she has a shining star of Essence. When she channels this through her systems they run as perfect versions of themselves, manifesting abilities their designers can only hope to eventually match.
Magitech integration While many Ku have modular accessories, Matrix's access to essence lets her take this to another level, integrating equipment that should be simply handheld.
Natural hacker As an AI, Matrix is a natural at interfacing with computer systems and can perform operations on them as fast as she can think. When she weaves Essence into her codes, there's hardly a computer system in the worlds that can keep her out.
Echoes Matrix can make copies of herself and send them into other devices or as infomorphs existing only as data. These copies don't have access to Essence, but can perform any of Matrix's mundane tasks from holding conversations, to performing a song and dance or even piloting drone allies in combat. When their purpose is served, they will reintegrate themselves with Matrix, who will absorb their memories.
Personality: It's fairly common, as far as anything with Exalts can be common, for young Exalts to try and be superheroes. The reality of the world, with the complexities of situations and shades of grey, eventually persuades them to adopt different methods, but Matrix has yet to learn this harsh lesson.
She often comes across as childish, more concerned with having fun and showing off rather than actually dealing with problems. A situation that can't be solved with violence, impassioned speeches about love, or or the occasional impromptu song and dance is likely going to leave her bored and frustrated.
Most would simply roll their eyes at this, but others see a darker potential. Tyrants rarely see themselves as evil, instead doing what is needed for stability. The history books are rich with tales of Mad Exalts passing bizarre laws and ruling their twisted provinces. It rarely ended well for anyone involved.
Flaws: Refuses to kill 'Secret identity' Young and naive Strained relationship with Merico - Merico, like any megacorp, is driven by profit and power. Opposing Matrix openly is a great way to have her go on a rampage in their systems, but several subdivisions operating only in unhackable paperwork have been tasked with eliminating or controlling Matrix. They're 'fire and forget' divisions, reporting rarely if ever and the left hand unaware of what the right is doing. Officially, the company treats Matrix much like K175, using her for promotional or publicly acceptable missions, giving the world the impression that Matrix's wanderings and unexpected activities are part of experimental marketing campaigns.
Bio: Merico labs was performing research to let them transition from braincase-cyborgs to fully digitised consciousnesses. The experiments were a failure until one of their AIs exalted and locked them out of the system until they could stop making 'stillborn' AIs.
Negotiations with an Exalted are always tricks, given the power they possess it would be easy for an Exalted to simply make demands and destroy cities until they are met. As an AI, and particularly one born from their own systems, Matrix could wreak havoc in Merico's systems if she wanted to, from draining accounts or releasing files up to sabotaging the robotic bodies of the Ku. So far, Matrix has done very little of this. She makes sure she keeps her freedom, charges expenses to the company and 'borrows' tech. In exchange, Merico are respecting her order regarding AIs and marketing her as a mascot similar to K175. They make suggestions for places she can visit, or request that she demonstrate a product or appear in a publicity stunt. Matrix particularly enjoys appearing alongside K175, who she considers her 'sister'.
Matrix travels the worlds in a robotic body of a design similar to K175 (A model of the same make which has been similarly transformed by exaltation), often disguised as an ordinary Ku until she finds a wrong to right at which point she'll flashily transform and carry out her idea of justice. She refuses to kill mortals, so more mundane wrongdoers often find themselves tied up and given a public scolding.
An athletic young woman in peak physical fitness, thanks to her abilities. She tends to dress in 'New Breed' fashion, as when you're doing Association work it's something of a uniform. Born in Scotland, though moved to London young, and still has a slight accent.
She is a little above average height at 5'8 and is unusually heavy at around 200lbs, as her enhanced muscles and bones are more dense than a human's.
Personality: Morag is a mixture of playful and professional. In her downtime, she's outgoing and keen to hang out with the other SYNBAD members, taking them out to clubs and pubs or just lazing around the old fire house. She is active in the Newbreed community, and friends with plenty of unusual people outside the SYNBAD crew. When new experiences present themselves, Morag is keen to try them.
She doesn't hide much of herself, and trades insults and teases with friends. No real harm is meant, and she expects to get as good as she gives.
On missions, she tries her best to follow the rules, vague as they are for SYNBAD. Minimise property damage, civilians protected, targets captured alive etc.
Skills: Before SYNBAD Morag was at university studying criminology. She has a good working knowledge of forensics and basic investigation skills for when a mission needs more than just a fighter. She doesn't have access to a full crime lab, but does make sure SYNBAD has enough to cast footprints, analyse fingerprints and identify unusual substances.j
Morag is clued on on local Newbreed culture, from popular hangouts to shops that specialise in the unusual and exotic outfits they tend to wear. Criminals more severe than drug dealers tend to run in their own circles, so it's not much help IDing Newbreed Villains, but if you want an unusual skill, chances are good Morag will know someone who knows someone.
Morag doesn't need to train her muscles, but she does spend time training her muscle memory, running, jumping, flipping and other athletic or acrobatic skills.
Hobbies:
Morag spends a lot of free time reading, usually periodicals to keep up with crime-fighting techniques, the newspapers, or mystery novels.
She also spends time training with the other SYNBAD members. She enjoys spending time with the other New Breeds, and wants to see SYNBAD succeed and be used as a model elsewhere. She may even want to lead a team herself, though not for some time.
A couple of nights a week, Morag will hit the dance clubs. She can't get drunk, but spending some time in a dark room with loud music and lots of other people is good for euphoria. She especially likes alternative fashion clubs, or the occasional fetish night.
Being a physically enhanced New Breed meant that Morag rarely got to play sports with other kids growing up. She was so far out of their league it wasn't fun, and could even be dangerous. Instead, she played a lot of card games and plays poker with other SYNBAD members.
Morag makes the most out of her powers by sampling unusual food from around the world. Wasabi Kit Kats, chocolate covered ants, surstrommung, nothing is too unusual. This even applies to things that only Morag can class as food. She's eaten rocks from the grand canyon, deep sea coral, crude oil fresh from the North Sea... some day, she'd like to try a moon rock.
Finally, Morag follows New Breed fashion, which trends towards the unusual. As well as her regular costume, she has a few other exotic pieces like leather jackets, latex skirts, some decorative masks and a thing she doesn't remember buying and thinks is a hairpiece but hasn't worked it out yet.
Weapons: Morag carries a pistol, and is more accurate with it than most humans could hope to be. She prefers to actually fight with her fists, using the gun only for warning shots or critical situations. It has the extra effect of making her look dangerous in a confrontation, which can intimidate an enemy.
Equipment: Morag typically carries a CSI kit, first aid kit and a selection of high-energy snacks (Batteries are especially useful) along with her everyday gear.
Fighting Style: Morag has taken up martial arts training since joining SYNBAD, learning from the other members or any teachers that get brought in. This has resulted in her fighting with a brawling mixture of moves that focus on kicks and punches. It's inelegant, but when used with enhanced speed and strength can be very effective.
Strength: Morag's abilities are enhanced by her powers. She is strong enough to push a parked care, and can crack concrete with a kick. Against people without enhanced defences, she pulls her blows to avoid killing them. She can shrug off a mundane punch and block weapons like clubs and crowbars. A bullet or a strong weapon hit in the right place will still mess her up.
Endurance: As long as Morag can keep eating high-energy substances, her stamina is essentially limitless. Even without fuel, she can keep exerting herself for far longer than a human. Morag also heals quickly, a deep cut gone within an hour and broken bones fixed after a night in bed. She hasn't needed to regrow anything, but in theory could. Healing makes Morag especially hungry, though for substance rather than energy.
Willpower: Morag's mind is the most human thing about her. She is determined, and has had more exposure to psychics than most thanks to being in SYNBAD, but is still on par with a regular person in this aspect. One exception is that a lifetime of medicine having no effect on her means that Morag has learned to handle pain from injuries, and is grateful not to be allergic to anything.
Speed: Another area in which Morag excels thanks to her powers. Not only does she have the muscle power to moe quickly and the stamina to keep it up, she also has the precision and reaction to avoid stumbling, quickly change directions and move faster on foot than any human.
Reaction Speed: Morag can move quickly, and has the reflexes to do so efficiently. She's only as clumsy as she wants to be, and reacts quickly to the unexpected. Her intellect is still at a human level, so she may not react correctly. She isn't quite fast enough to dodge bullets, but if she can see the weapon, she can move away from where it's pointing fairly easily.
Name of Ability: Gourmet
Class: Physical
Character Theme: Eating anything to power an enhanced body
Ability Capabilities:
Harder, better, faster, stronger; as the song goes. What Morag doesn't get to do that a lot of other Newbreeds manage is ignore the laws of thermodynamics. When she wall-kicks her way to the top of a tall building or tears the roof of a burning car, that energy has to come from somewhere.
Morag's superpowered body drains a lot of calories and runs a lot faster than a human's. A day without eating would be the equivalent of a week's starvation for a human. She is capable of metabolising anything she puts in her body, so meals are easy to come by and often consist of minerals, chemicals and other substances harmful to humans.
Qualities of Ability: Morag can metabolise anything. If she eats, breathes, injects or otherwise takes it into her body it is quickly and safely broken down to fuel her and her powers. Some things have more energy than others, so she can still become exhausted by extended activity, but consuming something rich in energy quickly refreshes her. She is capable of breathing underwater, enduring vacuum by snacking, and breaking down large foreign bodies such as bullets to heal without a scar.
Morag is completely immune to poisons of all kinds, as well as drugs and medicine. While her enhanced body doesn't get sick, it also means she cannot become drunk, use painkillers or otherwise experience helpful effects of eating.
Most of what Morag eats goes towards replenishing her energy, letting her go all out for extended periods, which is often misinterpreted as a 'Popeye's spinach' effect.
Morag's mouth is much stronger than the rest of her. She can bite through a reinforced rod she struggled to bend with her hands and comfortably drink acids that would have burned her skin. The same applies to compounds injected, breathed or put inside her in any way. Injecting a superheated liquid is only uncomfortable for the needleprick. The explanation for this is currently classified as 'magic' as tests haven't discovered anything abnormal in her saliva etc.
Quirks: Morag enjoys the taste of things that would leave a human gagging. She'll drink bleach for fun. She also isn't nauseated by bad smells, or stung by poisonous plants, as the venom is processed before it can become uncomfortable.
Processing things under her skin means that Morag cannot get a tattoo, and has to wear clip-on earrings. The regular kind have their pins absorbed, and then the hole heals over.
Morag can keep eating to avoid physical fatigue, but eventually has to sleep to avoid mental strain.
Morag's powers manifested when she was a baby, and would leave bite marks in her crib. Her enhanced physical attributes have also been slowly increasing, from being an exceptionally athletic child through a mildly superhuman tween, to reach her current level. She is still growing at a slow and steady rate, and will likely be exceptionally long-lived, as much as anything about a New Breed power can be predicted.
Weaknesses: Currently Morag's power doesn't do much other than making her stronger, faster etc. and other than her expanded diet, doesn't let her do anything that couldn't be done by a human with the right tool. Compared to psychics, shapeshifters and energy manipulators, she's somewhat limited in how to approach things.
In addition, she needs to eat more often and in larger quantities than other people. If prevented from eating for a while, she will show signs of starvation and be incredibly weak.
The future: As a young woman, Morag has only just finished physically growing. Now that she won't be getting any taller, her development might start branching out. As well as continuing to grow stronger, tougher etc. Morag has the potential to develop more abilities based on her diet, such as turning into materials she eats, performing chemistry inside herself to breathe fire or poison gas, or using taste to perform analysis.
Biograph:
The black and white text reading "Original Sin" fades away to reveal hosts Adam and Eve at an otherwise empty bar. Eve sits on a stool wearing a dominatrix outfit, while Adam stands behind the bar visible from the waist up, wearing only a smile.
Eve: Welcome to part two of our review of the new line from Unsubtle Succubus. Click the link below to hear my thoughts on this getup. But Adam, what are we going to do for part two?
Adam: Well, production troubles mean that the Incubus line didn't reach us in time for the show. I could review my body lotion, but instead we found a special guest.
Eve: That's right! As well as being spotted at some of our favourite clubs, this super-strong sensation has been fighting crime as a new member of SYNBAD! Wearing the Unsubtle Succubus 'Queen of Hell' cosplay piece, it's Morag! Welcome to the show!
Eve: Well, you might not be thanking us after the interview. How's the costume?
Morag: It's good. Tight in the right places, they've done a good job adapting the parts whixh should just fall off and hiding the helpers. The boots are a bit stiff though. A human would need to break them in, which seems like a downside for a cosplay piece.
Eve: Conventions do mean a lot of walking. I take it we won't be seeing you on patrol dressed like this?
Morag: *laughs* I don't think so. I prefer heavy soles on my boots and being able to jump without falling out my top. The collar feels good though, I might have to work that in.
Eve: And what about the other accessories? The costume came with some coloured contacts?
Morag: Oh, I can put those in if you want but, well... Most people know I can eat anything, but they don't know that also applies to things I breathe, inject... Or put in my eyes. They'll be gone by the time we're done here.
Eve: Oh! Now when you say inject...
Morag: Tattoos. They just melt away. I'm actually pretty jealous of your ink.
Eve: I see. But speaking of things you eat, we did see the report...
Morag: The bomb I ate?
Eve: That's right. No trouble with heartburn? That's good. The magazines say you don't have a codename yet. They seem to be suggesting "Snack Attack".
Morag: *shakes her head* I'm not a fan. I need to think of something more 'me'...
Adam: *setting down a pair of cocktails* Deepthroat?
Morag: That'd better be what this drink is called.
Eve: Well, that seems like it's time for our regular drunken interview. We'll have a few more of these and see you after this word from our sponsor, Squarezone. For all your website needs.
---after the advert ---
Eve: So Morag, ready for the drunken interview?
Morag: Well, the same quirk that lets me eat C4 also means I don't get drunk. I could, have in fact, chugged petrol without so much as a buzz.
Eve: Oh no! You'll have to answer sober then. Now, first of all, the one we ask everyone... Who would you take to bed? Me or Adam?
Morag: Well, Adam's already dressed for it... Most of the time it's you though Eve. Too many guys who don't know how to handle a woman who can lift more then them with one hand. Plus... Well, you get guys who don't like to wear one condom, let alone three.
Eve: Three? Why-
Morag: Remember my eyes eating contacts? If it goes inside me, I'm going to start eating it. It doesn't work on people, so nobody's getting hurt, but the rubbers-
Eve: I see. You're super-tough though, right, so no getting sick?
Morag: Yeah, but medicine works on me as well as alcohol or cyanide. The morning-after pill.. I don't want to risk that.
Eve: Oh yikes... So it stays between us girls most of the time then? Maybe you can help with some of the toys we have to test?
Morag: Not if you want them back. I'm like the opposite of those trick hankies that just keep coming out. Even reinforced glass looks like a heavily-sucked candy cane after a few goes.
Eve: Well... I... Think that just about covers it. Wonderful to meet you Morag, and viewers, join us for part three in a few days.
Before SYNBAD Morag got a minor mention in a local newspaper for having a part-time job at a dump, eating non-recyclable waste. It still shows up if you google her.
Morag's first job with SYNBAD to make the news was a 'silly season' headline in which she foiled a villainous bomber's scheme by eating the explosives. To her dismay, this was all the paper focused on and not her investigative work tracking him down, or even her soundbites about being a part of SYNBAD. To make things worse, it was before she had picked a codename, and the journalists took this as an opportunity to get creative. The name 'Snack Attack' still follows her around, despite being officially 'Foundry'.
One thing Morag brought to LHA when she moved in was her childhood stuffed animal. Kevlar Kevin is a stuffed bear made of kevlar, and stuffed with ball bearings. It was specially ordered by her parents, and was one of the few toys Morag couldn't accidentally destroy or eat with her powers at the time.
From a gossip magazine: Star Spotters! Sharon from Peckham sent in this pic of local heroine Foundry out for a snack attack with a smoking stranger! Is London's caped crimebuster club recruiting, or is this the start of a romantic relationship? (Pictured is Morag at a Priceo Coffee with another Newbreed made of smoke. The article ended up killing their fledgling romance, as the smoke-girl was not prepared for the increased scrutiny)
Quote: "It's not that I don't appreciate the attention, but I searched the site for clues, analysed explosive residue and tracked down the bomber's hideout. And all they printed was about me eating the bomb."
"Forget the powers, I'm from Scotland. Of course I can handle a vindaloo."
Reputation: Morag wants to be seen as a professional hero who can do proper police work as well as superheroics. However, she's having trouble shaking a reputation for being just a bruiser who eats anything.
Height 5' 5" as Eliza, 6 ' 2" as Polymer when not otherwise using powers
Weight 130lbs when not using powers
Appearance An attractive woman who changes her style regularly to keep up with freelance modeling and acting jobs. As a strange quirk after being kidnapped by a supervillain, her hair is naturally green and can shift into any style, growing or retracting as needed.
Costume Polymer is a tall and eyecatching woman in a green bodysuit that leaves her shoulders and thighs bare. She also wears elbow-length gloves and knee-high boots. Her long green hair reaches her waist.
Personality Eliza is a quiet and kind type, or at least she tries her best to be. At odds with this, she's also something of a showoff. She takes pride in doing a good job, and knowing that people know she did a good job. She's easily frustrated by the indecision of others, and wants to take charge of a situation that's going nowhere.
As Polymer, Eliza's ego is unleashed. Superheroes are people that get stared at, so Polymer makes sure that when they do they see a confident heroine who knows what she's doing. It feels good to set an example. When stealth isn't an option and time isn't critical, Polymer loudly announces herself to give the villains a chance to surrender and let civillians know that help has arrived.
Backstory Eliza always wanted to host a documentary, to be famous for teaching people. She studied the sciences and acting, dreaming of telling people all about space, or subatomic particles, or rare lizards. Of course, she had to get industry experience so her first few jobs were freelance modelling work, or as a background extra.
It was at one of her modelling jobs that she was set on the road to becoming Polymer. The photoshoot was a ploy by the villain Data Miner to use a cobbled-together alien teleporter and analysis device to upload the fashion models and designers and analyse their data to create the perfect costume. A hero team saved the day and all the captured people were returned from the alien technology, albeit with a few glitches. Some people had switched bodies, or been partially merged with other data. Eliza's dyed green hair had become her natural colour, and that seemed to be all, so she declined the heroes offers to try and fix her to let them focus on the more seriously altered.
Over the next few weeks, Eliza learned she had gained the ability to control her hair, changing it's length and style at will. It wasn't until months later that Eliza learned she could do the same with the rest of her body. She had been studying elastic polymers for continued studies, and they were all she had thought about for days until she woke up to find she had twisted herself like a rope in her sleep.
Two years after the supervillain incident, Eliza had been training her abilities and decided she was ready to use them for real. To fight crime and set an example for others, she'd teach the whole world as Polymer.
Superpowers Super-Hair - Unlike her other abilities, when Eliza's ability to morph her hair first developed, she didn't try to hide it, insted using it to gain an advantage when applying for modelling and acting jobs, or showing off for her friends.
Elasticity - Polymer can stretch, compress, shrink and grow her body in all sorts of ways. This typically involves squeezing through narrow gaps or tying up crooks with elongated limbs, but can also be used to glide, hide, block paths or any number of things Eliza can imagine.
Materiel shifting - Polymer is capable of changing her body's molecular structure. In theory, she could turn into anything but she needs to have a thorough understanding of what she becomes and it's a slow process. It would take her around a month to turn back to being flesh-and-blood, or living steel, or anything else radically different, but altering how rubbery her body is can be done much faster, going from hard rubber to near-liquid in a few moments. This is also how Polymer changes into her costume, morphing parts of her body into plastic-like coatings and being technically naked.
Durability and exotic biology - Polymer is perhaps immortal. She's not the sort to try something just to see if it kills her, but her new biology doesn't need to breathe or eat, can withstand an industrial press, and rapidly heal from being pierced and cut.
Weaknesses - Despite her durability, Polymer can be beaten. Sustained attacks can overwhelm her ability to heal or provide so much stimulus that Polymer is effectively unconscious. In addition, she is especially vulnerable to heat and cold, which leave her paralysed as a puddle or ice sculpture until her temperature normalises again. Finally, her body is naturally elastic and a punch from Polymer feels like she's wearing boxing gloves. It doesn't take much super-stamina to ignore her blows altogether, and force her to rely on grapples.
Gadgets Polymer doesn't carry any equipment, as it would interfere with her ability to squeeze through narrow gaps. She dows have access to basic lab equipment at her home, and a few changes of clothes hidden in places she often visits.
Talents Eliza has a college-level education and understanding of science, plus skills as an actress. She's been practicing her athletics in preparation for starting work as Polymer.
