Heh...no. It's more power-oriented right now. So for example, it would make your character's ESP both easier to control and focus. It could increase the likelihood of her learning something relevant and could potentially improve her speed and her reflexes. In the case of Prince and his illusions, it would help make them both more believable and easier to sustain...things like that. In regards to "normal" people, it has the ability to make you feel slightly...better. Being around Jack and having him use his powers will probably increase things like reaction times, metabolism, etc. But it won't make a character with no innate superpowers suddenly able to doge bullets or heal grievous injuries.

Like I said, I wanted to shy away from 'any chemical reaction' because it would be easy to make that extremely overpowered. I was worried about there being the temptation to control things like cellular respiration, the body's immune system, or the production of hormones. That's not to suggest that he will never develop stronger powers in the future, but I wanted to limit his abilities at first, especially how much he can do on or to other people. I also kind of wanted his power to have some risk and consequences associated with it other than not always working 100% of the time. Not knowing how to fully control this ability can prove dangerous to himself (as you will hopefully see once we get started) and other people if he isn't careful.

Appearance 

 Jack is of average height, standing at just under 6’. He has broad shoulders and an athletic build that seems more typical of a swimmer than a bodybuilder. He has medium brown hair that he wears long and shaggy. It has some natural blonde highlights, and often falls in his green-blue eyes. His skin is fair, though it has been known to tan slightly in the summer. Jack’s eyebrows are thick and tend to be the most expressive portion of his face. His nose is long and slightly asymmetrical. He has a scruffy little beard and mustache that make him look slightly older than he is, at least that’s what Jack likes to believe. He typically wears dark clothing, favoring jeans and long sleeve shirts over cooler apparel. He has a fairly casual style, and dislikes wearing formal clothing.

Characteristics

 Jack often says very little, tending to prefer hanging out in the background and analyzing most situations before participating in them. He generally comes across as being very observant and intelligent, but taciturn. He has a sarcastic sense of humor and is often quick to make a snarky remark, especially when he is feeling uncomfortable. Generally, he appears disaffected and detached. He is slow to trust and slower to form attachments to people. His emotions typically swing from one extreme to the other. Although Jack is fairly calm most of the time, he bottles up his anger until it overflows.

He has a few friends, mostly from his high school. They tend to be a combination of burnouts, artists, and stoners. Jack himself is an aspiring photographer and can often be found with his few close friends and taking photographs all across the city. Jack is currently single, but has had several girlfriends in the past. Since he isn’t the most social person, dating isn’t that important to him. But he certainly doesn’t mind companionship.  

Goals and aspirations

 Jack doesn’t have a whole lot of ambition or long term goals. He just recently graduated secondary school and is taking some time off before going to university. He would ultimately like to go to art school or maybe pick up a technical trade.  

CV

 Jack was always a mediocre student, mostly due to his lack of ambition. He was always considered to be intelligent and creative, but he didn’t like following directions or participating in ‘mandatory’ activities. He decided to take some time off before applying to University. Currently, he is working two jobs (at a bookstore and a restaurant) in order to save some money. 

Crime

 Assault is what’s listed on his official record. It’s typically seen as a severe offense, sure, but not so much when it’s your basic pub brawl. The fact that it was Jack’s first offense and he was, in his mind, defending an innocent bystander was part of what made the court willing to consider community service instead of prision. 

 Background 

Jack was born to Tim (an artist) and Elaine (a schoolteacher) in Leeds. His younger sister Chloe was born three years after her. The family never had much money, but Tim’s drinking problem exacerbated the situation considerably. The boys didn’t know about their father’s alcoholism until years later, after he had sobered up and got remarried. He married a woman named Rita and the two of them had a daughter--Daisy. They live a bit far away, however, so Jack has never been close to them. Her mother married a man named Roger who had three children of his own--Grace, Callum, and Alex. Grace is two years older than Jack, Callum is a few months older, and Alex is the same age as Chloe.

Growing up, Jack and Chloe lived with Roger and her mother. They visited their father and Rita on most weekends, until the couple moved farther away. Now they visit on holidays, but that’s about it. In secondary school, Jack always felt as though he were in Callum’s shadow. They were the same year, and his stepbrother was much more popular and outgoing. As a result, Jack became increasingly involved with a group of people who were perhaps not the best influence. He graduated school with acceptable marks, but nothing particularly stellar either.

Since he isn’t entirely sure what he’d like to do, he has been focusing on working and saving up some money before going back to school. He and his stepfather have always been a bit antagonistic towards each other, and the family was out at the pub one evening when Roger made a disparaging comment about Jack’s sister Chloe. Jack, in turn, punched him in the face. Charges were filed, and Jack ended up with community service.   

Power

 Catalyst:

Jack’s power is a bit unusual. Essentially, he is able to speed up or amplify certain processes that exist in others. He himself benefits from this ability in that his reflexes and reaction times are significantly quicker than most people’s, but he doesn’t have superspeed per say. He is also able to increase the effectiveness, duration, or intensity of others’ powers. However, this can be a somewhat dangerous process as there is the potential to do damage himself or another person. 

Skills & Abilities

 Jack is one of those people who knows a little bit about most things, but not a lot about one particular subject. Although he is highly skilled at reading people, he is difficult to parse except when he is angry. As one might imagine, he has an excellent poker face and is very knowledgeable about photography and technology. He is also good at identifying rocks and plants, and computer programming.
