Dead County
Current Order Deadline is Friday, May 23rd, 15:00 Eastern Time
"When there is no more room in hell, the dead shall walk the earth."Welcome to Paradise County, an idyllic and diverse landscape of rolling meadows, lush forests, beautiful mountains and serene badlands. There is one catch to living in Paradise... It is teeming with the undead. Civilization is on the brink of collapse as the zombie virus spreads across the globe. Paradise County had the advantage of being isolated between Lake Placid in the north, Custard Mountains to the east, and the Sinjeway Badlands to the south-west. Now, despite the natural defences that sheltered the county, the zombie outbreak has struck.
You begin the game as a lone character amidst the chaos of civilization's collapse. As the game progresses your character will become the leader of a faction vying for control of the county. Before you become a leader, however, you must first sign up.
Character Sheet
Name: Though you may RP as several characters within your faction if you wish, to sign up, all I need is your main character
Trait: A perk given to your main character. Solider which gives a bonus to all combat operations. A Natural Leader has the ability to effectively lead his group, resulting an a greater chance of attracting more survivors to their group.. Rogue is a trait attributed to shady individuals that excel at undermining other groups of the county. Rogues have the ability to issue a special order per turn that can be anything to scouting an enemy camp for a battle bonus, to infiltrating a compound to kidnap and turn survivors to their cause.

Occupation: Is a pre-collapse career just to give some insight into your character.
Bio: Everything from personality, history and appearance of your character
How To PlayDead County is an RPG survivalist/horror that will feature weekly updates, the county itself will be shaped by your RP. Players will have 2 types of orders, with an additional order for rogues.
Survival orders are anything from scrounging for supplies, search and rescue to gain survivors and trade missions targeting other players.
Combat orders are issued to target any deemed threats against your group. Whether it be other players, NPCs or zombie hordes. Combat orders are risky, as they will cost the lives of your followers, however they are necessary when seeking to gain new territory, and raiding NPCs and other players for supplies,
Rogue Orders are special orders for rogues that yield a 50/50 chance of success. Use this order wisely in conjunction with combat orders to wage sneak attacks or recon to gain an upper hand in battle, or make them stand alone to raid supplies from unknowing players and NPCs.
Orders are PM'd to me, deadline will be posted here in the OOC thread, typically once a week. Orders should be straight forward, but feel free to add details you would like to see in the updates. Include the name of your character and faction in your orders.
Starting OutAs the game begins, civilization is on the verge of collapse. It is this opening turn that will determine your starting stats and location. The first turn will take place over the course of 6 months in game time. In this time frame, your character will emerge as a leader of a group of survivors. You should put some thought into how you spend this time during humanities fall. Will you be uniting your family and finding some place to hunker down? Or perhaps you will spend the time raiding and pillaging throughout the county? What you do is up to you, however, you will need to establish a base camp. All I need for your first order is a brief description of your activities during this 6 month period and your top two choices for your base camp. After this initial phase, the game will truly begin, with factions emerging to survive and dominate throughout the county.
Select your top two territories for your base camp. Each territory is relatively similar in game play terms, each offering NPCs and threats to deal with, the main difference being the setting for your RP. The first update will reveal your success during this period, and where your character ends up.
Paradise Falls is a small city of 50 000 residents. Divided into 3 districts, the industrial nestled at the mouth of the Placid River, the commercial district west of that, and the residential district along the western edge of the city.
Appalachai Forest is a densely wooded area and nature reserve with sprawling hiking trails, campgrounds and the town of Appalia.
Custard Hills are the rocky foot hills that lead up to the Custard Mountains. A harsh landscape of sparse vegetation, rocky highlands, old mines and quarries and the mining town of Rockview.
Wick's Marsh is humid swampland infested with alligators, fan-boat tours, and the town of Wick.
Placid River is a fertile river valley of bountiful farmland, farming villages and the town of Riverside.
Sinjeway Badlands is a rugged area of little vegetation, rocky ravines and plateaus, and home to the Sinjeway Natives.
Decide which two settings your would prefer and include them in your first order set.
Surviving the ApocalypseOnce the first turn is over, and players have set up their base camps across the county, the game can truly begin. Your main goal should be to horde enough supplies to rebuild settlements that will draw more survivors to your group, and offer greater protection against the zombies. Supplies are hard to come by, and expect other players and NPCs to attempt to raid your supplies, should they become desperate. Establishing other base camps (combat order) in new territories will further cement your position in the county, and offer greater protection against zombies and other enemies.
Base Campa base camp is vulnerable to threats, containing only fires and lookouts to keep survivors safe. Your first priority should be to upgrade your base camp into a thriving settlement. An investment of 50 boxes of supplies is required to upgrade your camp.
Your base camp's main purpose will be providing shelter against enemies, prolonging the length of any siege, and drawing more survivors to your group. Base camps can be upgraded up to 3 times.
Level 0 - Very basic, and free to build, though it uses up a combat order. Likely just a few lookouts and crude barricades standing between you and the undead. An undead horde or enemy faction can drive you from your camp very easily at this level. It is a good idea keep a number of survivors behind to maintain your camp, and keep enemies at bay.
Level 1 - A fortified camp, costing 50 boxes of supplies to build. Traps and sophisticated barricades in place to slow enemy advance and keep geeks at bay, as well as a crude power source to transmit radio signals to alert other survivors. At level one, any horde or enemy would need at least 2 turns to overrun this position and a trickle of survivors will join your cause.
Level 2 - A settlement, complete with a power source and a boosted radio signal to alert survivors county wide that hope remains. Greater chance of survivors joining you, and 3 turns needed to overrun.
Level 3 - Fortified settlement. Walls, sophisticated traps and constant surveillance and a steady investment of supplies have rendered your once feeble camp into a fortress. Multiple lines of defense yield 4 turns for fortified settlement to be overrun.
Spreading out across the county is advantageous in that it gives you a greater number of defensible positions, however it takes up a combat order to build new camps. Though expanding your number of camps does not allow you to issue new orders, it does cement your overall hold on the county.
SurvivorsYour loyal followers, survivors of the apocalypse and supporters of your cause. Your survivors look to your for leadership, but are a precious resource in Dead County. Let your survivors dwindle to 0, then you will be unable to conduct combat operations. Survivors tend to have a will of their own, and will leave your group should things grow dire, or be persuaded to join other groups.
SuppliesSupplies are measured in boxes, including food, building supplies and arms. If you let your supplies grow scarce, survivors could leave your group.
CombatCombat, like most other things in Dead County, is decided by the luck of the die. A 10 sided die will be cast for each side in every confrontation, with a bonus die given to those with a solider trait. A casualty roll is then thrown for each participant. Natural Leaders have a lesser chance to win battles, however their innate ability to draw more survivors to their cause, typically means they will have greater numbers and more endurance in any prolonged conflict. Rogues will be able to capitalize on their special order to gain a battle bonus leading up to any fight, with a 50/50 chance of success. Should a rogue fail in their order, word will spread across the county. Enemies will become aware of their attempted deceit and may seek vengeance. A successful Rogue strikes from the shadows, and should they succeed, not a whisper will be breathed of their victory.
Zombies and other threats lurk across the county, with a little luck and perseverance, you could emerge as the leader of a new civilization amidst the ashes of the fall. Good luck!
