"Mari, you are the love of my life. Will you marry me?" Prince Yuki got down on one knee and presented Mari with a beautiful diamond ring.

Mari clicked "A" accepting his marriage proposal. "You've made me the happiest electric pokemon alive <3." A marriage scene rolled for about 2 minutes before end credits started scrolling on the screen. Mari smiled weakly, having pulled yet another all nighter playing her newest dating sim "For the Love of a Prince."

"Finally... finally, I've got the ending that I wanted." She had already played through this game three times trying to unlock all the endings. In one ending she married the Prince's brother. In another she was discovered fooling around with the prince's servant and wound up in heartbreak. Finally she was the prince's bride though. She raised her hand up above her head in victory, tearing up a little. This was probably just due to the fact that she'd been staring at her computer screen for the past 12 hours straight. In a dark room. Alone.

Mari's stomach grumbled. She had ordered food at 10:30, so it should be arriving any second now. She checked her watch for the time. Wait... what? That couldn't be right. According to her watch it was 2:00 in the afternoon. She scratched her head in confusion. It usually never took them this long to deliver her food. Maybe they forgot her order? Mari picked up her cell phone and began dialing Happy Burger. The phone rang about 6 times before leaving an error message. Her stomach growled again.

"GrrrrrrrrUGHHH I'm HUNGRY DAMMIT!"

She checked her phone to see if they had already taken the money out of her account. Maybe she had forgotten to pay online. She opened her mobile banking app. Nope. She definitely paid. Sighing in frustration Mari slowly stood up from her blanket cocoon on the floor of her apartment. "Guess I better go find somewhere else to eat..."

Mari trudged through the cluttered mess that was her apartment until she reached her clean clothes basket. She quickly grabbed a shirt off the top that said "Straight out of dimension C-137" and some blue mom jeans. She walked towards the door grabbing her car keys and stepping into the same pair of slip on shoes she'd had for the past two years now. She cracked the door, opening it very slowly as her eyes needed time to adjust to the brightness outside. Squinting uncomfortably, she walked outside. Luckily her apartment was located on the first floor so it made getting to her car that much easier. She had a cute, yellow 2010 bug. A lot of people wondered why she didn't buy herself a sports car now that she had so much money, but honestly her old car works and that's all that counts to her. She hopped inside, starting the car and immediately reaching for the red bull she had left in her cup holder yesterday.

Or at least she thought she left it? Her hands grasped at nothing but air and she looked down to see that there was nothing in her cupholder. Not even her old drive thru napkins or straw wrappers. "Well, that's weird..." Luckily she kept an emergency stash in her back seat. She turned around, once again reaching for nothing but air. Her confusion only continued to grow as she realized that not only did she not have any Red Bull in her car, she didn't have ANYTHING in her car. All of the trash was gone from the seat floors, the seats didn't have any stains or tears on them... what exactly was going on here? Mari's stomach grumbled yet again. "I'm too hungry to think about this right now." Mari sat up, throwing her car in reverse as she prepared to exit her apartment's parking lot. That's when she noticed something even weirder. Her bug was the only car in the entire lot.

Maybe everyone was at work? No... because there should at least be a few cars from the people who work in the building. She shook her head, convincing herself that there had to be a reasonable explanation for the uber clean car and the astonishingly empty lot. She was probably just so sleep deprived that her brain was coming up with all this craziness. She laughed at how ridiculous the whole situation seemed. Who ever complained about a clean car right?

Mari pulled out of the parking lot. She's probably just been cooped up too long. Maybe a trip to the mall would help? It'd been a while since she'd talked to people who weren't characters in a game. She pulled out her phone and plugged the mall's address into her maps.

Oh wow! I stopped checking the forums because nobody was responding to this. I'm flattered, grateful and happy that there are so many people interested in this little idea of mine. Let me mention everybody so that I don't miss anyone:

I'll try to address everyone's points. Apologies if I miss anything, there's a lot there.

-I wasn't planning any particular setting too strongly, but I'm fine with fantasy as that seems to be what everyone here is good with. I have an inkling of an idea for an opening post that could work well in a fantasy setting. I didn't want to plan too much though because this is a story I wanted to write with all of your help and improvising can be fun, but there has to be common sense involved. If it's a fantasy setting, the next post shouldn't be a robot popping in from the future to shoot the protagonist. lulrandom type stuff, while funny, just isn't interesting long term
-Smut, torture and gore don't appeal to me either. I was thinking a common-sense PG-13 type of thing. It's possible to have an interesting story without hardcore violence or smut but I didn't plan on writing an episode of Teletubbies lol
-Also, I don't want to write anything political. Whatever your views are, there's enough of that elsewhere and it's a dreary subject.
-My idea was giving each poster a day to write their post, but I'm fine with whatever reasonable time limit. 1 day or 24 hours after the last post or so.
-No guns is fine with me.
-I was planning on doing this here in RP Guild but if you all want to do it on a Google Doc, that's fine by me.

Sounds good to me :) I'm fine with any setting honestly, I'm very flexible when it comes to writing. I'm happy with whatever everyone else decides. I think that doing it here in RP guild would be a good idea, just because it makes it easier to tell who contributed last to the story so that we can keep track of whose turn it is next.

Good call! There'd have to be a reasonable expiration date for anyone who couldn't post in time though, just so the next people in line could continue without the pace of the RP being bogged down by IRL issues. Maybe...if you haven't posted by the end of the day? Or so many hours after the last post was put up -- that'd also make it easier to deal with time-zone differences; 12 to 24 hours after a post is up?

I vote fantasy! :) Also as far as our different sections go, what we could do is once we have our set amount of people we could come up with a posting cycle. You could post a list in the thread with all of our names in a certain order and once we've seen that the person before us on the list has gone we'll know that it's now our turn to post. I feel like that would save a lot of confusion

I've had this idea sitting in my brain for a while now, but for those of you who aren't familiar with the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon concept I'll go ahead and explain.

Some background:

One of my favorite Pokemon Mystery dungeon games is Legend of Sky. In this game you are a human who has washed up on an island you've never seen or heard of before. You have amnesia, your name being the only thing that you can recall about yourself. You are approached by a very concerned looking pokemon ((I always picked Riolu at the start of the game so we'll go with that.))
Riolu asks you if you're okay and how you got here. It's at this point that you realize "Oh man, this pokemon is talking to me." Then, to make things even freakier, you realize that not only is this Riolu talking, but you yourself have turned into a pokemon. After your initial meeting the two of you become friends and you decide to join a pokemon adventuring guild with Riolu hoping to possibly find the key to your missing memories as you explore. Throughout the game you take various jobs that different pokemon give you in return for rewards and XP.

I haven't come up with all the details yet for this RP ((I wanted to see if anyone would be interested first)), but I figured that it's focus would be around our characters being apart of a guild together. The story could start off small with us going on a simple mission together. Maybe we're helping defeat a couple of bad guys who have been terrorizing the town or helping someone find something dear to them that they've lost.

Or it could even be about a small group of us who dream of becoming adventurers, but have been rejected by all of the big shot guilds in town. So then we decide to create our own guild and go around trying to help anyone in need.

That said, I am totally open to different ideas and I'd love to hear back from you guys. Please let me know below if you'd be interested in this concept :)

In the vault everybody acts, dresses, and talks the same way. Akira is no exception to this rule. She has three outfits; a dark blue jumpsuit for work; a pair of blue jeans and a white button down shirt for casual wear; and one egg-shell white dress only to be worn on the occasion that there is a formal event being held. As far as looks go, when the population of your entire world is only four hundred; you all start to look very similar. Hazel eyes, pale skin, brown hair; these are but a few of the most common features one would find in a citizen of the vault.
Here the majority of the people have a deeply-rooted belief that “If you don’t look like us, you must not be one of us.” Because of this, often times when children are born lacking the features considered “status quo”, they will have their hair dyed by their mothers or colored contact lenses prescribed to them so that they won’t experience bullying or discrimination while growing up. Akira happened to have been one of these children. Born with a natural red hue to her hair, Akira hated nothing more than the smell of dye as her mother forced her to cover it up with the more accepted “Chestnut Brown”. When her hair was still healthy and vibrant it would curl up into beautiful locks that would frame her face. She always took great pride in how long and wavy her hair once was. Now her hair has become incredibly damaged and coarse due to years of abuse, forcing her to keep it shoulder length. Still she chooses to continue this treatment because in her eyes and the eyes of the vault crinkly hair is still better than being seen as a societal pariah.
Akira works in the coal-mines and after years of shoveling coal and moving carts, her body has become incredibly lean and muscular. One of the biggest problems of working in such a highly physical job, however, is the scarcity of food found within the vault. Often times, Akira finds herself going to work with nothing but a gallon of water and a granola bar. Some days she’ll get lucky and get to have cereal in the morning, but milk is scarce and sources are limited so it’s seen as a special treat. Due to lack of nourishment and the intensity of her job, Akira often times has fainting spells; sometimes even being out for a couple minutes straight. Some days can be hard, but Akira’s hunger motivates her to push through the pain because she knows that if she doesn’t work, she doesn’t eat.

Personality Traits

Having started working in the coal mines at the tender age of twelve, Akira has developed something of a tough exterior. She works hard, makes money to feed herself, and comes home to a room that is only a little bigger than a walk in closet. She tends to keep to herself and mind her own business. For her, conflict is something that must be avoided at all costs, as to stick out is to make yourself vulnerable to those around you. Many nights Akira finds herself lying in bed, staring at the ceiling and wondering what life outside of the confines of the vault would feel like. Ignorant to the reality of what is happening on the surface, to Akira anything would be better than being stuck in the place she is right now.
Stories about the surface circulate around the vault, but because of the taboo nature of the subject, most avoid the topic entirely. Very few people actually know about what is happening on the surface, and those who speak a word of the truth place themselves in a dangerous position. The government of the vault could never allow that kind of information to get out, for if that were to happen the bubble that its citizens exist in would be endangered and chaos would ensue.
As the years went by less and less people were educated about the virus until eventually it became nothing but a myth. Many even go so far as to believe that humans don’t exist on the surface at all.
Regardless of the rumors and beliefs of the people of the vault, however, Akira refuses to give up hope that there are people out there; people who think like her, who want to experience the world and what it has to offer, who want more for themselves than to work, eat, and die.
Little would Akira know, however, of the true nature of the outside world and what it has become.

Backstory

Akira was born and raised in the vault. Her mother and father were very cold, as most adults are to their children here, and cared less about Akira’s happiness and more about her appearance. Daughter to a coal-miner; Akira was born into her occupation. No little girl grows up hoping to shovel coal for the rest of their lives, but for her that was simply a reality she could not escape. Until her twelth year, when Akira began her own line of work, she lived with her mother and father on the lower level of the vault. Childhood was difficult for her. Unnecessary pressure to fit into the box that society had crafted left Akira growing up with many anxieties and feeling as though it didn’t matter what she did so long as she didn’t stick out.
Yet; the older she got, the more she would think about things that would go against this mentality entirely. She had always held a deep curiousity for what existed outside of her world, but never before had she felt such an insanely powerful urge to find it.
It was this very urge that finally pushed Akira to take the first steps outside of her caged mind and to try and find a way out of the reality that was forced upon her.
She started digging around for information, eagerly devouring any word that could be another step towards her freedom.
After months of searching and gathering any and every piece of info that may help her, Akira was able to construct a plan.
Having collected blueprints from a coworker of the entire layout of the vault, Akira was able to pinpoint the exact access pipes that would lead her to the surface. These pipes were meant for disposal of trash and waste, making it a somewhat awkward trip, but what are a few bad smells when your entire life is on the verge of the biggest change its ever made?
Finding and travelling through the access pipes, Akira would emerge onto the surface for the very first time and finally begin her life outside the vault.
