“Hey, uh… Sammy? Yeah, it’s Felicity. Ya know, your next door neighbor for the past few weeks? Yup, me. Uh, I know that ya might be busy with… whatever it is ya do. BUT, I have a favor to ask. And yeah, I know we haven’t talked much BUT, you’re kinda ma’ only option at this point. Uh, ya know Michael, righ’? You know, the 6’4 energetic bunny rabbit known as my brother? Yeah, I need ya to watch ova’ him for me while I go run around and do some business. Don’t worry, he’s totally harmless and he is literally a 4-year-old trapped inside of the body of a 19-year-old. He’s the coolest guy I know. Although, I am a bit biased, I guess. Listen, I know it’s a bit much to dump on ya out of the blue but, uh, I think I can trust ya with him. So, call me back when ya can and let me know. Thanks, dude.”Beep!“Hey sis! What are you doing, lazy!?”“Talking to an, uh, friend of mine. I’m askin’ him to watch over ya while I’m gone.”“Oh… are you going to work?”“Nope. Not today, Mikey. I have to handle a bit a’ business. Don’t worry about it. Besides, you should go back to sleep. It’ll make your head feel better.”“Thank you, sis!”As her tall brother skipped away, Felicity’s smile dimmed a bit. She leaned back in her chair, phone in her left hand as she massaged her temples with the right. The dark bags under her eyes were a heavy indicator to her lack of sleep.
Not that it’s purposeful, She thought dryly as she just managed to catch movement out of the corner of her eyes. Glancing over, she wasn’t surprised to see nothing there.
Eyes flickering over to the phone in her hand, she found herself sighing. At that moment, she looked older. Regardless of how her smile seemed to point to her being happy, it was becoming more and more difficult to keep up these days. Especially after…
“They are coming. Prepare!”Her head shook from side to side as she tried to shake away those thoughts. The more she lingered, the darker the room seemed to get and the louder the whispers seemed to become. Forcing herself to remain calm, she allowed herself to think on what the words could mean.
And all she could think of was that there were other people with powers out there. And while some are good, some… well, humans are inherently evil anyway so it wouldn’t be surprising. Shouldn’t be a surprise.
Mikey? Her head shook automatically, he was far too innocent for this world. That’s why she had to protect him, keep him safe. And, if she could trust the shadows, she would need to keep him safe from some of the most dangerous people in the world.
Sweet, her mind supplied sarcastically. Standing up, no matter how much she wanted to stay seated, she stretched. Hearing the crack of her bones, she let out a little sigh before walking through the small apartment to her bedroom. Stopping on the way, she peeked into her brother’s room to see him sleeping. Grinning wider, she felt a small bit of stress flee from her body before she forced herself to move on.
In the room, she began packing up a very small black backpack. She stuffed in a small flashlight and a stethoscope. Shoving them in, she then grabbed her keys and her blue jacket before quickly putting it on. She then moved everything to the living room before plopping back down.
Now in her natural element of laziness, she picked up the phone and held it to her chest, awaiting the call as she closed her eyes.
