Akio couldn’t help but feel bad. The princess was obviously nervous and frightened. He wondered if he just made it worse, even if he was trying to be as kind and respectful as he could be. He just had tried to make a good impression and get to meet and know the girl who he was engaged to. He felt incredibly unlucky in these moments but he would still try to be kind and collected. Maybe if he could show her that he was gentle and nurturing, she could begin to open up to him a little.

He examined the cut on her fingers looking as close as he could for any glass. After not seeing any, he smiled small before delivering the good news to Valentine. He knew the cut wasn’t very deep. She definitely didn’t need stitches but it would still be best to disinfect the cut and wrap it in band aids to prevent infection in the future. She would only need it for a couple days and then the cut would scab over and heal on its own.

As the attendant came out, he kept a careful eye on the princess, trying to make sure that she was comfortable and not stressing out too much. As she gave her hand to him, he thanked her before grabbing the first aid kit from the attendant. He pulled out an alcohol pad and looked at her with a smile. “This will sting.” He told her. He decided though that before cleaning the cut that he would tell her something, hopefully to distract her at least a little from the pain. “My brother actually wants be a doctor. He has been training for years and he is applying to the medical school in Talulia. Without him I would probably be freaking out in this situation.” He wipes the cut with the alcohol pad, disinfecting it. He then grabbed some bandaids from the first aid kit and wrapped one around each finger that was cut until it was covered. He heard her small thank you and he looked up at her and smiled. “You’re welcome Valentine.” He told her. He then let go of her hand and began to close the first aid kit. “Keep the bandaids on for a day or two, and a bit longer if you think you will pick at it or scratch it.”

He handed the attendant back the first aid kit before standing up and smiling at Valentine. “Well I think that is enough excitement for one night. Can I walk you back to your room Princess or do you wish to stay?”

Akio watched Valentine. He recognized the panic in her face and as she continued to pull her hand away from him he sighed. He had to take this another way. She was obviously having a panic attack or something similar and that was a subject he actually knew well. His brother and him had developed anxiety and depression after the death of their father and they both had frequent panic attacks in the following years. Akio began his usual pattern of words that he spoke to Aito when he was in this state. ”Hey Valentine. It’s ok. Breathe. Breathe. In and out. In and out. You are safe. Nothings going to hurt you. It’s ok. Just breathe. In and out. In and out. In and out.” His voice was soft and comforting. He kept it low and quiet, knowing that calmed his brother and him when they were in a panicked state.

As she agreed to go outside he let her pull her hand away as she held onto the handkerchief and kept pressure on the cut. As he sat down beside her and watched her scoot away, he did the same, wanting her to be comfortable on the bench even if it meant that he wasn’t. He then looked at her and smiled small. ”Do you mind if I have a look at your hand? I don’t need to touch it and you can look away. Will you just show me it, so I can make sure there isn’t any glass in the cut?” he asked her softly. He wanted to be gentle with her and take it slow. She obviously had no trust in him yet but he wanted to show her that she could trust him.

When the attendant came out with the first aid kit he looked at Valentine while stopping the attendant from advancing. ”Someone has to disinfect and wrap your cut. I can do it or the attendant can or I can go get someone else if you can find a way to tell me who you want. he looked at her and smiled small. ”Just point at me, the attendant, or the door so we know who you would feel comfortable touching your hand and wrapping it up.”

He honestly just wanted to help Valentine and he knew that after her hand was bandaged, the best thing he could do was leave her alone to process her night and hopefully go to bed. He didn’t need to make her like him tonight. He had years to achieve that objective. All he had to do tonight was make a lasting impression on her and he was sure that this night would leave an impression on her that would last forever. Sure it wasn’t necessarily pleasant but it was ok. Hopefully they could look back on it one day and laugh.

As the princess held up multiple fingers, saying that she was not mute, Akio nodded and smiled small. ”Sorry if the question offended you in any way. I just wish to learn about you and get to know you.” He told her. He then shrugged and sighed. “It’s ok to be nervous. It is quite a big party and event. Maybe a less eventful situation would be a better time to truly make each other’s acquaintance. he smiled at her and looked down before looking at her eyes again. ”My room is on the third floor. Number 312. I have your room number already. My mom and brother went a little overboard on the research.”

He was finishing his pleasantries and telling her that it was nice to meet her and he hoped to get to know her when her glass fell to the floor he looked at it and grabbed some napkins to start cleaning it up and to pick up the glass. He then looked at Valentine and saw her staring at a cut across her fingers that was bleeding. He quickly figured out that it was from the glass and he looked for another napkin. After not seeing one for a couple of seconds he pulled out the fabric of his pocket square and unfolded it. He the gently took Valentine’s hand and pressed the fabric against her fingers to try and stop the bleeding. ”It’s ok it’s only a little cut. We can keep pressure on it to stop the bleeding and then disinfect and cover the cut to prevent infection.” He told her and smiled at her.

He wanted to keep her calm. She was already nervous enough from the party and meeting him, that a fear of blood could put her into a panic attack or something similar. He tapped one of the attendants that were cleaning up the glass and asked him to go get a first aid kit and bring it to the garden. He then turned to Valentine and smiled again. ”This big crowd isn’t helping. Let’s go out to the garden so you can calm down in the quiet fresh air.” he said before he gently began to lead her outside while still keeping pressure on her cut. Once outside he settled her down on a bench and sat next to her while holding her hand. He decided to stay quiet, knowing that the silence was probably what she needed to calm down.

Akio was shy. He was often reserved and distant if he didn’t have to be. There always came times when he wished to just be by a fire reading a book when he instead he had royal work to do. That didn’t mean he tried less on that work. He wanted to rule and he wanted to just generally be seen as a nice person. So he didn’t know why Valentine was being so silent. Not a word or sound had come out of her lips and Akio couldn’t decide if it was because she was tired, nervous, being rude or something else though. He wouldn’t get mad though. He would stay calm and try to be as kind and calming as he could be. That didn’t mean he wouldn’t stop talking to her though. They would have to get married in a few years and if he didn’t make a good first impression now then that chance would be gone forever.
”Are you mute or is it just the nerves or something that is keeping you quiet?” He asked her holding up a finger for each option so if she really was mute she could hold up a one for the first option. He would try to keep this conversation going even if it was very one sided. He had to admit though that the idea of her being mute made a lot of sense. There was almost no information about her online and the things he had found had come mostly from Prince Andronikos. It was frustrating to say the least to know almost nothing of the princess and how she felt about ruling her country let alone ruling beside him as well for Talulia.
Her being mute, could have its benefits though. Secrets would be kept with no fear of her slipping them, including the secrets about himself and how if they did get married, he would be unhappy. Valentine being mute could prove problematic but it also could prove beneficial.
He smiled down at her small form and sighed. ”Well it’s nice to make your acquaintance, princess. Maybe at another time I could introduce you to my brother Aito and you can introduce me to Prince Andronikos or anyone else of choice.”

He could see the nerves seeming to burst through the girl in front of him. He didn’t want her to be nervous but he had to admit that he was nervous. He watched her take a gulp of her drink and he sighed softly to himself. ”You know I’m pretty nervous about this whole marriage. I honestly don’t think I’m ready for a betrothal but mother thinks I am.” he told her with a shrug. ”I actually think my mom just wants me to marry you so both of her sons can be ruling kings. I’m older by a few minutes but the heir in Talulia is decided by IQ and he’s a couple points above me so he is most likely to rule.” He knew he was rambling on but he didn’t know how else to communicate to Valentine when she wasn’t talking back to him. He wondered if it was because she hated this idea of their marriage as much as he did. It wasn’t because he didn’t want to get married but because he didn’t want to marry a girl. He was gay but no body knew that except him and his ex-boyfriend and maybe his father if you believed in ghosts. He looked at Valentine and shrugged. ”So it’s a pretty nice party tonight huh?”

Akio listened closely as Aito and Raven talked. He hated correcting people and he hated his English. He wasn’t as good as his brother even though he had studied the language longer. As Aito took charge of the conversation, Akio looked around the room, seeing if he could find Valentine, his betrothed. He had done research on her but to be fair there wasn’t much on her. She was rarely in pictures, she didn’t seem to ever have press conferences and she was all around mysterious. The only things he knew about her was that she liked to be called Valentine, her country was basically in ruins, and her best friend was Andronikos. He also knew what she looked like from the pictures that he had found of her.
As he looked around the room he heard the introduction of Andronikos. He immediately became even more attentive as he drew his eyes to the front of the room. He searched for Valentine up front by Anton but she wasn’t there. He began looking around the room. Maybe somehow he had missed the announcement for Valentine and she was already inside. His eyes darted across the room and they landed on a bun and a blue dress in front of a red carpet. He knew it was Valentine.
He quickly excused himself from his current conversation before walking over to a caterer. He grabbed two drinks off the tray before thanking the worker. He then walked over to Valentine with a smile. ”It is nice to meet you Valentine. I am Akio Bai of Talulia.” He said handing her the drink with a smile. ”I’m sorry to be bothering you but I thought it would be nice to get to know you since we are betrothed to one another.” He gave her a soft smile, trying to look kind and not threatening in any way. Some people had mentioned in the past that he had a scary face at times. Other people said he looked soft and like a dough boy and completely harmless. He was really trying for the second one right now. He wanted to make a good impression on Valentine so that she wouldn’t hate him. Hopefully at least one of them could be happy in this marriage.

Akio and Aito were talking to each other about how tired they were from the long flight. Neither of them ever slept well on planes so they were both extremely jet lagged from the 12 hour flight to the kingdom which had only landed a couple hours before hand.
The boys heard a voice and quickly turned to the girl in the green dress. Aito held out his hand first and shook Raven’s hand. When Akio went to shake her hand he smiled and sighed. “I don’t mean to be bother, but my name is Akio. Aito is the only one with a T in his name.” he mentioned in his best English. He was also embarrassed. He didn’t want to call out a princess on not knowing his name. Him and Aito already looked similar and if wrong names helped people figure out who was who then why should he correct them. Akio looked down at his shoes as his brother quickly took the lead.
”It is nice to meet you Raven. As said, we are Akio and Aito Bai of Talulia.” He told her with a smile, sounding much more confident in the English language as well as overall. ”I must admit that I’m not very educated in your kingdoms history. Would you mind enlightening me. I can’t promise my brother will stay too long though. He is waiting to meet his betrothed.” he informed the girl as he smiled at her.
Akio and Aito Bai

Akio and his brother Aito had only arrived a couple hours before the ball. They had spent the twelve hours before that on a plane and it was exhausting. You could see the tiredness in Akio’s eyes but his mother would die before letting him go see other royals like that. His mother wasn’t here but her workers were. Each twin had two assistants, one unpacking, and one working to put the boys together for the ball.
Akio was of course excited. Talulia never got much communication with other countries due to it being mostly cut off. He was excited to see friends he hadn’t seen for years as well as make new ones. He wasn’t looking forward to his betrothed though. It had only been a few months since the agreement between Talulia and Luxieme had been made that he would marry the princess. It was meant to benefit everyone because then Luxieme gets the help they so desperately need and well his mom would get to have both her kids be kings instead of one.
Akio couldn’t help but laugh at that thought. He knew his brother, Atio, had no desire to rule despite being the smarter of the two. Atio wanted to go off and be a doctor which actually made Akio happy. Aito was obviously passionate about it and Akio wanted to rule the country that he loved. He would just have to convince his brother to tell his mom about his refuting the throne, come out to both of them as gay in return, break up an agreement and possibly an alliance and convince his mother that he was good enough to lead. Easy?
There was no time to think about this all now though. He had a ball to attend and Asa his assistant, doing his hair and makeup, reminded him of that. He was being forced into this shirt and that vest and this jacket and that tie and then sat down in a chair as Asa made his face not seem tired and his hair actually look nice. It was always down and a pushed up style was not meant for him or his brother.
When he was finally ready he stepped out into the hall and saw his brother. They were practically matching. It was crazy. Their mother always insisted that they dressed the same like people wouldn’t know they were twins if they didn’t. It wasn’t hard to tell that they were twins though. In fact it was hard to tell them apart. There had been multiple occasions where a picture of Aito had been taken but it was Akio’s name in the paper and vice versa. The fact that their mother forced them to wear matching clothes didn’t help that situation at all.
“What is it with mom and always making us match?” Akio said as he sighed and walked up to his brother.
Aito was leaning against the wall, clearly ready before his brother had been. “I don’t know Akio? I think she finds it cute and maybe more put together.” He told him and pushed off the wall. He walked downstairs with his brother and looked at him. “Ok Akio, so the plan is that we go in, congratulate Lea, converse a little, introduce yourself to your betrothed and then we leave together and go to bed. I’m exhausted.”
Akio nodded in agreement. It had been a long plane ride and immediately going to a party was going to make them even more tired.
As they reached the bottom of the steps, they stood by each other and waited for their introduction. Akio walked in first, being the eldest, followed by his brother. They both greeted the king and queen before they each took one of Princess Lea’s hands and kissed the back of her hand while bowing. “You look beautiful. Thank you for inviting us to this wonderful event” said Akio.
“And congratulations on your engagement” added Aito. They then walked into the room together, going to stand almost in the middle of the room since it looked the least crowded since many of the other royals seemed to almost be hugging the walls.
