Personality: By all accounts, Lucas was affable, cheerful, even-tempered, and an optimistic person. People tended to gravitate towards him and he had a knack at building relationships. It’s easy to observe that he enjoyed being with people. He also had a national propensity to encourage those close to him when they are down. He enjoyed lightening people’s spirits to encourage them. Also, he is always one to get in the fray before everyone else. He would never ask anyone to do something he is not ready to do himself.
Although his general demeanor changed when something tragic happened in his life. From then on, he became uncaringly frank and judgmental. Acquaintances are generally turn off by his domineering personality. At the same time, became wary of building deeper relationships. His guard has since been up and he would intentionally back off whenever he started to get close to people. This is likely because he does not want to have something that could be dear to him that he could again someday lose.

How did you discover your powers: Lucas was twenty-five, much older than most, when he discovered his powers. He and his wife Mary with their little boy James drove down to Texas in January of 1974 for a family trip. They had made the trip to watch the Super Bowl VIII finals between the Miami Dolphins and the Minnesota Vikings. James was a huge fan of the Dolphins so they went as a birthday gift to celebrate his birthday. As they were headed back to Alberta there was a huge snowstorm and Lucas was struggling to keep his truck on the road. That was when he and Mary decided it was best to sleep out the storm in a hotel. As they were turning into the hotel a massive semi-trailer truck came barreling into their vehicle. After the collision their truck was crushed and turned upside down. Lucas looked over his wife and child and saw that they were both unconscious. The semi next to them started to leak gas and then a second later exploded and enveloped everything around it, including their truck. Minutes later Lucas rose from the flames his clothes mostly ripped and burning. He then dropped to his knees and wept when he saw their old family truck was still on fire.
General History:Lucas was born in Lloydminster, Alberta on March 1948. His parents are James and Margaret Butler. The couple had two other sons; Philip the eldest and Aiden the youngest. Even though James had served in World War II and had seen the horror of war, he was always a kind and nurturing man especially towards his wife and three sons. Their family owned a modest sized farm where they raised cattle. It was through the farm that James would teach his boys the value of hard work and how to figure out how to fix things when they stopped working.
Lucas loved living on the farm because of the open spaces around their land and the seemingly endless things he and his brothers could do. They would go exploring and camping together and when they were younger, they would do things that would be considered “too dangerous” for city kids. Their father would also take them camping and hunting for wild game. Lucas had a bit of a middle child complex which he compensated by honing his interpersonal skills, particularly his humour. He quickly became known as the funny guy in the family.
When he turned 17 years of age Lucas joined the Canadian armed forces with his parent’s consent. He initially wanted to build a career in the army and was stationed in Ouvrage Kerfent in France for most of his tenure. His unit was part of the group sent to represent Canada in NATO and was assigned to that installation. Since the base was far from the main cities all he could do was engage and spend time with his French counterparts, which inevitably became beneficial because he was to learn their language. In the service he specialized on being a marksman. This was helped by the fact that his father trained him the basics of hunting from such a young age. After three years though, after not seeing any real action, Lucas decided to leave the army and to go back home to Alberta.
At the age of 20 he came back home to help his father as a farm hand. It was then he met Mary Ombragard in the theatres when he and his friends went to Edmonton to watch the movie, ”In the Heat of the Night.” They fell in love and immediately had a young boy after they were married. Five years later, driving home from a trip they experienced a horrible vehicular accident where both his wife and his son died. It was during this tragedy was when he discovered that he had mutant powers.
From 1974, Lucas became embroiled in underground fights. He pretended to get hurt when his opponents would attack him and he would even intentionally take dives to win lots of money in bets. It was in these fights that he gained the nick name the Jackal. He traveled around the world fighting, staying in a place until people started to suspect that he was “cheating” somehow.
One day in 1983, he went to the Lincoln memorial in Washington D.C. He finally visited because his son always wanted to see and visit the visage of the great Emancipator. After staring blankly at the face of Lincoln for the whole day he started walking down the steps of the memorial and at the bottom was Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr waiting for him.
