Bio

Hello!

I'm Camlin. I'm twenty-something, and I live in the United States, specifically Arizona. I've been roleplaying on and off since I was thirteen years old. I do one-on-one roleplays almost exclusively, and my genre of choice is fantasy because I like a little magic in my life.

When I am not roleplaying, I can usually be found reading. My latest fave is the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas, though my all-time fave is and forever will be the Harry Potter series.

I work in a call center as a customer service representative, though I aspire to work in a more analytical field when I (eventually) finish my bachelor's degree in Computer Science.

And with that, I think I've hit the salient points. Thanks for stopping by!

P.S. My Discord ID is Camlin#2239. I have the app, so (if I'm available) I'll know right away if you message me, whereas I have to manually check for any communication sent via PM or forum. Therefore, Discord will be a reliably faster way of getting my attention. Just thougt you ought to know!

The tavern on the ground floor of the Leaping Lamb Inn was bright and busy in the early evening. Fires at either end of the hall and lanterns hanging above the tables cast a cheery yellow light over everything, and simple tapestries hung on the wooden walls helped to keep the noise level manageable. It was a pleasant place to take the evening meal—less rowdy than the taverns nearer the docks, and cleaner to boot, but less costly than the formal eating houses found uphill in the port city's wealthier districts.

The tavern's patrons were busy eating, drinking, and making merry. A minstrel played shanties and jigs in one corner, to the cheers and merriment of those seated nearby. There was no vocal accompaniment to the songs—yet. Elyde knew from experience that, after the casual diners cleared out and only revelers remained, the minstrel would progress to bawdy tunes that would have half the tavern singing along with increasingly discordant voices. She planned to escape to her rented room above before the debauchery could begin.

For now, though, the atmosphere was pleasant, and the steady noise lent some level of privacy to the conversation she and her companion now shared.

"...so I'm on my way back to the capital now, to hand in my report," her companion finished, having just described his latest mission up the coast. This particular inn was a favorite among the Dragon Hunters travelling between the seas and the capital, and it wasn't unusual to run into other Hunters here. "I'll be headed out in the morning, after a rest and the return of my land legs." The man punctuated this statement with a groan as he stretched the offending limbs out in front of him. Then he took a gulp of his ale and gestured at Elyde. "And you? You still look fresh. Where've they assigned you?"

Elyde took a sip of her own ale to wash down the stew she ate before she answered, "They've got me going all the way out to Tawalai Island on this one. They've reports of a lone dragon settling there—perhaps it thinks this island is far enough out of the way that we won't come after it." She smirked at this. "They should know better than to underestimate us by now, don't you think?"

Her companion guffawed his agreement. When his amusement calmed he asked, "And when do you sail?"

"As soon as I can." She shrugged. "I'll be down at the docks bright and early tomorrow to find a ship headed that way. The next passenger ship sails to Tawalai in a week, and I don't care to wait that long. No, I'll buy passage on some merchant ship or find a naval patrol to take me. It's too bad I can't travel by horseback for every mission. It's so much simpler," she sighed.

The conversation lagged then as the Hunters returned to their stews and bread. As she ate, Elyde's mind wandered wistfully to open plains, forest paths, and mountain treks. Anything but a sea voyage.
A private RP for @svpernxva and me! The first IC post will be up soon-ish.

The title, Dragon School, is a working title and I want to replace it as soon as something better comes up. I should probably start by naming the school...off to the random name generator!
A private RP thread for @Dread and me! I'll be posting the first IC post soon-ish.
@dragonbutts I know how you feel! A friend introduced me to D&D about 4 years ago, and I can't get enough!

Seriously though, we're supposed to meet to play once a week, but it's more like once a month at best because someone always has to cancel. This campaign doesn't work with even one person missing.
Earth
Good to know, thanks! :D
I don't have any experience with the 5th edition. How do you like it compared to 3rd ed?
Thanks, @Stormflyx and @Dread! I'm enjoying it so far, and I haven't even started roleplaying yet!

@dragonbutts, the only table-tops I've played are D&D 3.5, Pathfinder, and (for a very short time) Savage Worlds. My regular group doesn't get to meet very often, and we haven't had any desire to move on from Pathfinder yet. I suppose I could always give online table-top a try, though. :)
Welcome

Call me Camlin! I'm looking for a fantasy roleplay of either casual or advanced level. I'm pretty eager and up for nearly anything fantasy! I'm talking medieval, modern, vampires, fairies, princesses, assassins, wands, potions, dragons, unicorns...you get the idea. I'll try to keep this short and sweet, and when I fail to do so, I'll highlight key points so it's easier to read.

About Me

I'm in my twenties and female, for those of you who care to know.

My time zone is Mountain Standard Time (MST), or -7 GMT/UTC. We do not observe Daylight Savings Time (DST) where I live, so our time difference may change by one hour depending on the season.

At the moment, I am on a break from work for medical reasons. This means my availability is wide open, and I can make multiple posts a day. When I go back to work, I can do about a post a day, sometimes more. I will also contact you if I cannot post as expected.

I use correct but generally informal grammar. This means I don't particularly care about details like who versus whom or exact comma placement, but I care very much about grammar mistakes that change the meaning of a sentence, such as there, their, and they're.

My post lengths will vary depending on circumstances within the roleplay. For example, heavy dialogue generally leads to shorter posts (about one paragraph) but more rapid-fire posting speed. If you prefer longer posting lengths, I will match your requirements to the best of my ability.

I am happy to play both male and female characters, though I am more confident playing females.

I'm satisfied with most degrees of censoring. Do you want Safe for Work? Great! Do you want mature themes? Fine by me! My only restriction is that I don't want to write/read pornographic descriptions of sex. Less physical detail and more story, please!

My Expectations

Please use correct grammar. I am happy to forgive mistakes, but will not tolerate sheer laziness.

I want to hear from you at least once every couple of days. Even if you can't post, just a quick message letting me know you haven't ghosted is appreciated. If you know in advance that you will be unable to post for a time, please let me know. I will extend the same courtesies to you.

Please communicate with me. If something I've written or done makes you uncomfortable or unhappy, tell me. I can't fix what I don't know about. Moreover, I can always do with more friends. :)

If you want to quit the roleplay or take an indefinite break for any reason (real life stuff, incompatibility between us, loss of interest, etc.), PLEASE TELL ME! Even if you find it's been months since you last posted and at this point it's just weird to say you want to quit when you obviously already have, tell me. I promise not to make it weird or get angry. I've ghosted people before, and I'm not proud of it, but I understand it all too well. I just want to know if I need to move on.

Plots

Just an idea or two I've had floating around. The dragon plots I actually tried to write as novels, but I never get very far on my own. Everything is open to change and will require further development, so the story will end up as ours instead of mine.

Dragon War
On a continent inhabited by both humans and dragons, tensions between the two races have always been high. Humans have long hunted dragons for their priceless hides. They raid the dragons' nests and treasure troves. Dragons take vital livestock, steal human valuables, and destroy whole villages in revenge for the sins of a few. Now, one of the most fearsome dragons is gathering followers in order to wipe out the human race. Caught unprepared by the massive force, the humans struggle to defend themselves. The strongest mages in all the lands secretly gather to devise a spell that will end the dragon threat once and for all. What will come of this great and terrible war?

Dragon School
A distant sequel to Dragon War. Three hundred years after the Great Dragon War, humans and dragons now live peacefully together. Every dragon is bonded to a human mage in a mutually beneficial relationship. The dragon's raw magic boosts their bonded mage's spells, and the mage cares for their dragon partner. A great school of magic has arisen, and young talents are sought out and brought to the school from all over the continent to bond with a dragon hatchling and to train their gifts. But the school conceals a dark secret. What is the truth behind the dragon bond? Your character would be a student in the school, while mine would be that student's bonded dragon.

Fandoms
In general, I prefer original roleplays to fandoms, but here are some fandoms that I might be convinced to roleplay. Basically, it's a list of the book series I know best.

Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling
Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas
Graceling series by Kristin Cashore
Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare
Tamora Pierce's Tortallan Universe
(Song of the Lioness series, Beka Cooper series, etc.)
Inheritance series (a.k.a. Eragon) by Christopher Paollini
Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan
House of Night series by P.C. and Kristen Cast
Ranger's Apprentice or Brotherband series by John Flanagan

Feel free to bring up any similar titles and we'll see if I've read them.
I have now sat here for at least fifteen minutes trying to decide how best to introduce myself without feeling awkward, and have failed to come up with the proper witticisms. I give up. So, without further ado...

Hi! I'm Camlin, I am twenty-something years old, and I have been doing online roleplay on and off since I was thirteen. I do one-on-one roleplays almost exclusively, as my (admittedly limited) experience of large group roleplays has been...regrettably chaotic. My genre of choice (reading, writing, and roleplaying) is fantasy, because my life is miserable without magic. I'm a college dropout, though I plan to go back. I completed almost three years of a Computer Science degree before I left. I now work as a customer service representative in a call center, though I am currently on a break for personal reasons, leaving my free time wide open. Thus, I've decided to rejoin the online roleplay community. I simply searched for roleplay forums and ended up here!

When I am not roleplaying, I can usually be found reading. My latest fave is the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas, though my all-time fave is and forever will be the Harry Potter series. My friends and I play Pathfinder (basically D&D for the uninitiated) once a week, if we can. I also sometimes play video games. My first serious video game, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, will always have a special place in my heart. I also played Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, but I have not gotten my hands on Breath of the Wild yet, as I don't have the right consoles. No point in buying a new console when there's only one game I want to play. Everything else I play on PC with a game controller, but Nintendo's gotta be all difficult.

And with that, I think I've hit the salient points. I'm looking forward to starting up a new roleplay or two!
