Pokemon: Coming of Age

"Awww you're no fun..." Sully laughed jokingly at Ivy, he had a good feeling the two would get on well. She soon asked him for directions to the station at which point he came to a realisation...he was lost. The exit he had taken was at a totally different place to the entrance. He could feel his anxiety levels rising before a thought crossed his mind. He dove into his trouser pocket with his hand and removed his pokedex. He opened it and shuffled through the menu. "There it is!" he exclaimed loudly.

Turning to Ivy he showed her what looked to be a GPS map with a position marked on it. "It appears that these things come installed with maps. I guess they function alot like modern phones." A voice came from the pokedex, "Turn left in 300 yards." Sully groaned. "I can't handle the voice being on a GPS." Poking at the screen of his pokedex some more he eventually found the option to turn the voice off.

"So it looks like the bus station is only a fifteen minute walk away. The map marks a few other nearby locations including a pokemart. Would be worth stopping there to get some supplies and stuff for the trip. I know it's not a long bus ride to Viridian City but could do with a couple of bottles of water and things. What do you think?" He smiled at Ivy waiting for her response.

Still sniggering to himself as Dustynn drank the sugary concoction, Leo took drink of his tea. "Well, I wouldn't be opposed if this was a date. I haven't had the opportunity to be with a gentleman in well.. ever." Leo could feel his face redden as he sipped at his tea. He hoped the giant cup hid his face enough though she wouldn't see. He let her continue just to let his face return to it's natural colour. "Wednesdays aren't very popular, but hopefully can have a good time regardless." Dustynn's head turned and she threw a smile to a woman on a nearby table who appeared to be looking around the room at those in it. Leo followed Dustynn's smile with a slack salute using two fingers from the temple and a soft grin.

As Dustynn continued he turned his gaze back towards her. She talked about the upcoming karaoke night on Friday which was always good fun. He had always thought it was something for lusty old women and horny old men but it turned out it was actually good fun. Karaoke nights almost filled out the Aether to the same level as when a big band does a gig. It was always quite surreal, big, bearded metal heads belting out Abba and other pre-nineties cheese, it was almost impossible not to have a good time.

"Fuck Leo-." Dustynn's growl caused Leo to erupt into side splitting laughter. "Oh come on...you can't blame me for that." He lowered his head and stirred his tea, not that there was much left in it. The smile stretched across his face from the sheer smugness his prank worked, soon faded as his mind began to race. Did she really say she wouldn't mind if it was a date? I mean I never...I just didn't ever think that was something that could happen. She's just so... Leo's train of thought was interrupted as the waitress turned up at the table with their orders. She placed the two plates on the table and wished the pair well as she moved onto the next table.

Leo gazed almost lustfully at the food on his plate, he could feel his stomach begging him to start eating. He looked across at Dustynn and smile. "I've always loved this place since I arrived in Sol. Not even because of the food, although I do love the crazy size of the portions. It's just so laid back and relaxing." He took hold of his knife and fork, moving to dig into the mountain of pancakes, eggs and bacon. He hesistated for a moment before placing them back down onto the table. He looked at Dustynn once more, the smile on his face had faded to leave a more sincere expression. "Dusty...I don't suppose you fancy going to the karaoke together Friday? I mean I know you're not rota'd in to work so just thought it could be fun to have a night out with you." He could feel the nerves wracking his body, although his poker face was spot on. "I promise I won't put any sugar cubes in your drink." The corner of his mouth curved upwards as a cheeky grin appeared.

• Melee Combat (Grandmaster): His talents were spoken of in hushed tones amongst his enemies, the myths and legends they shared did not do his true talent justice. In truth he is more proficient with all types of melee weapon than most are with a single one. No matter what is in his hands, he can use it to its maximum efficiency.
• Shadow Magic (Master): Each clan within the lands of Hakugawa had a mastery over an element. The Ishida had mastery of magic that involved manipulation of shadow and darkness. Hiroki was one of the most proficient users of his time.
• Battle Strategy (Master): Years of battle against many different enemies have honed his skills in being able to formulate a plan to defeat an opponent. This covers an individual in front of him right up to an army his comrades are going up against. Finding the weakpoints of an opponent and in fortifications is a speciality of his.
• Quick Reactions (Expert): Part of his talent in combat stems from an unnaturally high reaction time. While not supernatural in his quickness, he is capable of deflecting arrows. Bolts from crossbows travel too fast however.
• Coercion (Expert): A natural talent that Hiroki has is to be able to convince people that what he says is completely accurate. Stronger willed individuals are not as susceptible but average people are unable to resist.
• Horsemanship (Journeyman): Hiroki is fairly competent riding a horse but has always had a preference of fighting on foot.

Magic

• Shadow Walk: The ability to disappear completely into the shadows and move along them. Should a source of light remove the shadow then he will be revealed.
• Shadow Form: This allows Hiroki and his equipment to become incorporeal, being able to move through walls and avoid attacks. He can keep the form for ten seconds and can only use it once every ten minutes.
• Shadow Mist: Hiroki emits a thick mist within a ten metre radius which reduces visibility to almost zero.
• Shadow Sight: A passive ability that allows Hiroki to see through fog, mist, smoke and darkness as if it wasn't there. It can be temporarily shared with allies.

Artifacts

A listing of acquired artifacts. Maximum of three.

• Oni Blade: A long nodachi blade once owned by an Oni. Upon death it is said an Oni's soul becomes bound to its weapon which is then in turn bound to the person who slayed the Oni. The blade never dulls or chips and is capable of cutting through plate armour. It cannot be destroyed and seems to weigh next to nothing to the person it is bound to. If handled by someone other than who it is bound to, then it will be unmanageably heavy.
• Oni Mask: A mask meant to resemble the face of an Oni. In practise it protects it's wearer from attacks that look to manipulate their mind, allowing them to see through illusions and stop invasions of their psyche. Any and all deceptions and attempts at mind control will fail against the person wearing the mask.
• Oni Armour: A tight fitting armour said to be crafted from the hard flesh of an Oni. It is as resistent to damage as chainmail while weighing as much as cloth.

History

Myth / Legend: There have been myths and legends of great and capable fighters throughout history, but few if any can match the martial talents of Hiroki Matsuda. Undefeated in singles combat, he could fell the most capable of swordsmen with a single exchange. The feats of his battle prowess range from defeating towering creatures to holding a foot bridge against an advancing army of thousands on his own. However, what is a myth if it didn't end in tradgedy?

A faint wind blew through the late night as Hiroki sat in the garden of the Royal Castle, the banners of mourning had been raised as the death of the Shogun had finally come. Solemn meditation at the time of sadness kept Hiroki's emotions balanced and allowed him to keep his mind clear. He was joined by his brother who had a face of anger, a total contrast to that of Hiroki.

The older brother broke his meditation to embrace his brother but was met with a dagger to the stomach. With a quick motion Hiroki's innards plunged to the floor and his essence left his body, leaving it to crumple to the floor. Kiryu left a suicide note next to his brothers corpse and disappeared into the night, ready to take over as Shogun of the Ishida.

Childhood: A simple upbringing in a small village was interrupted by a raid that resulted in he and his brother being taken under the wing of the Ishida Shogunate. Pressed into service at an early age the pair both mastered their skills in combat as well as their control over shadows.

Adulthood: Right hand man of a critically ill Shogun who had no heirs of their own meant that the rule over the Shogunate was to fall to Hiroki. It wasn't something he wanted but something he knew he had to accept. Kiryu was highly resentful over it, always feeling a step behind his brother. Unfortunately Hiroki never had the chance to take the mantle of Shogun due to his murder at the hands of his brother Kiryu.

Special Moments:

• Battle of Tiger: A battle between the Ishida and Taka clans in which Hiroki bested their champion. This was his very first battle.
• Battle of the Three: A three way battle to take control of the castle that would eventually become the capital of the Ishida Shogunate. Hiroki unfurled the first banner to declare victory.
• Retreat at Kazaki Bridge: After defeat against foreign invaders the Ishida Shogunate retreated to regroup. To stop the enemy advance Hiroki a stayed on Kazaki bridge, a thin bridge that was no more than six men wide. Hiroshi fought for an hour before the invaders called a tactical retreat. Hiroki was exhausted but had left a pile of bodies so high that they were falling over the side of the bridge.
• The Oni of the Hollow River:While hunting Hiroki was set upon by a gigantic Oni near the Hollow River. A beautiful place that was often visited by animals to drink. The Oni was the first that Hiroki had seen in person. The fight lasted what felt like days before Hiroki eventually severed the beasts head with it's own sword.
