"My future is my mine to decide. I ain't about to bow down to fate, and neither should you."
Par || Devaronian || 25 || Padawan (former) || Devaron || Force Sensitive
Appearance:
Possessing reddish-orange skin, a hairless scalp, and the signature horns common of his species, Par stands at a relatively modest height of 5'7, with a fairly muscular frame concealed under the tan cloak he keeps around him almost constantly. A pair of gold earrings pierce his earlobes- jewelry which at one point he wore to signify his Padawan status, as males of his species are incapable of growing hair and thus cannot wear a braid. He is further adorned by a pair of a dark brown, shin-high boots, as well as gloves of the same color; the right glove has a comlink in the wrist. Fastened to the left side of his belt are two lightsabers; his own and his former master's. His DL-22 blaster pistol hangs on his right hip. Underneath his cloak, his torso is peppered with the scars of laser bolts, as well as one of a long slash extending from his right shoulder to his abdomen, trophies of his near-fatal encounter with a group of marauding Madalorians six years ago. A pazzak deck is one of his most prized possessions - he supplemented modest earnings by gambling while in hiding- and he keeps it concealed in a pocket of his cloak.
Skills/Abilities:
- Lightsaber combat
Due to a recent six-year drought in his Jedi training, Par has cast his traditional (and largely ineffectual) Form I training aside in favor of an entirely improvisational style that utilizes quick, successive strikes that are frequently supplemented with punches, kicks, the use of his blaster, blows from the hilt of his lightsaber, and even force powers such as force push and pull (utilized in an offensive manner that inflicts blunt damage upon enemies). The unorthodox nature of his moveset can throw many opponents off guard, although his reckless and instinctive movements can be easily countered by more experienced foes that can analyze his style. While Par does indeed possess two lightsabers, he has never studied Jar'kai and prefers to use his master's green-bladed lightsaber in sudden surprise attacks to close out fights quickly, or as a back-up in case anything happens to his main saber; he is unable of wielding both at the same time effectively in protracted engagements.
- Force powers
As a trained Jedi Padawan, Par has access to the standard set of telekinesis powers, as well as powers that enhance his movement such as force jump. While his ability to use the force to interact with the physical realm is considerable, his emphatic abilities - such as sensing life, emotions, or the ability to heal - are almost non-existent.
- During his years in hiding, Par developed skills as a competent pilot and his more than capable of flying a variety of vessels, from small fighting ships to large freighters.
- In the years since his separation from the Jedi Order, Par has come to rely on his blaster pistol almost as much as his lightsaber, and is an accurate shot.
- Par is a gambler and pazzak player of modest skill.
Equipment:
- Par's lightsaber (single blade, blue)
- Master's lightsaber (single blade, green)
- Padded cloak (The garment is armored enough to protect his shoulders and upper torso from a glancing laser bolt or lightsaber blow, but not from a direct hit by anything stronger than a low-grade blaster pistol.)
- BlasTech DL-22 laser pistol
- Comlink
- Piloting googles
- Standard Republic issue ration kit
- Pazzak deck
Personality:
For much of his life, Par has traversed the galaxy on his own and has had little in terms of guidance. This has lead him to be slow to trust, quick to hold grudges, and deeply suspicious of authority figures. Despite the caution he displays when dealing with others, he is extremely reckless and straightforward when it comes to getting what he wants to the point of tunnel vision. He has little regard for consequences when perusing something he personally desires, least of all personal injury -- this stubbornness has gotten Par into many scrapes in the past, although it is also responsible for many of his personal victories over those who would deny him what he wants. Above all else, Par values his personal agency, and rejects philosophies or ideology that suggest his fate is predetermined. By extension, he also vehemently despises institutions that would deny innocents of their freedoms, such as criminal groups that deal in sentient trafficking (slavery) or governments that oppress their people. With a burning desire to protect and uphold the personal freedoms of others, Par fights against these organizations whenever he can.
History:
It's not uncommon for a Devoranian to be born without a father -- it's the norm, in fact. Consumed with an unceasing desire for fame and adventure, Devoranian males frequently take to the stars after starting a family, leaving the mother to care for their young. Par experienced this desire from very early on, though what separated him from others of his species was the goal for his adventures. Par sought to find his father among the stars, and to achieve this end, snuck off-world on a visiting freighter. At age eight, however, he wasn't particularly stealthy, and was quickly discovered by the freighter's crew after a day or two. Deciding it would be too costly to preform a hyper-drive jump back to Devoran and taking pity on the youth, the crew put Par to work. During his stay on the ship, Par's at-the-time unknown force sensitivity made him a surprisingly valuable asset. He was unusually strong for his age, and had an uncanny ability to find lost objects around the ship. Unbeknownst to him, however, the "freighters" were high-profile spice traffickers, and were apprehended about eight months after Par joined them by a Jedi investigator and a contingent of Republic soldiers. While the other members of his crew were arrested, the Jedi investigator detected Par's force sensitivity. With the reasoning they could hardly arrest an eight-year old, the investigator was permitted to take the Devornian youth to Coruscant for training.
Still desperate to find his father, Par resented this sudden change in direction. As a child, however, he didn't possess a huge amount of autonomy and had little choice but to accept his new circumstances. That didn't stop them from resenting them, and his rebellious and hot-headed nature would prove problematic in his training and cause his instructors to regard him as an exceptionally poor student, despite a relatively high affinity with the force. Par seemed destined for a life in the Jedi Service Corps until Tor Anethma, a Twi'lek Jedi Knight saw what he perceived as great potential in the youth and implored the council to allow him to take on Par as a student. Beliving a relatively young master that Par could relate to would help cool his anger and impulsiveness. They were right, and Anethma's methods proved largely successful in subduing Par's more passion-fueled traits. Par studied under Anethma for two years, from age seventeen to nineteen. Shortly after Par was experienced enough that Anethma began taking him on more dangerous missions, the pair was sent (as many Jedi were at the time) to investigate a series of Mandalorian raids on republic-controlled territories in the Outer Rim. Their intelligence lead the Knight and his Padawan straight into an ambush. The Mandalorians, while they lost a large chunk of their squadron, managed to slaughter the small, surprised and outflanked Republic force. Anethma was killed in the fighting, while Par was severely wounded, presumed to be and left for dead. When the locals of the Dubrillion settlement the ambush took place on investigated the scene, they discovered the Devoranian was still alive and nursed him back to health. Stuck in hiding in the Mandalorian-infested region, Par eventually gave up his ambitions of contacting the Republic after a year of residing in and working a variety of jobs around the settlement where he had been attacked. Realizing being presumed dead by the Jedi Order gave him a lot of time (and freedom) to resume the search of his father, Par burned his Jedi robes, hid his and his master's lightsabers away, and saved up enough credits for a ship that sent him to the relatively safe Inner Rim. While looking for his father, Par went under the name Anetmalash in tribute to his late master, and worked as a freelance pilot and bounty hunter, his attunement to the force quickly allowing him to make a name for himself and giving him an advantage over more experienced competitors.
Par wouldn't be able to hide from his past forever, though; as the Mandalorians grew more and more bold, Par witnessed more attacks. Like many others at the time, he came to resent the Jedi Order for its refusal to prevent the suffering of loyal Republic citizens. The start of the Revanchist movement changed his opinion, and after a few weeks of consideration, he took up arms, reclaiming his old identity to defend the liberty of the citizens of the Republic.
