Personality: William was not given the nickname Bastard because of his parentage, he was given it because he is a cunning, ruthless, merciless and intimidating man. The name was given to him as an insult by one of his opponents for leadership, he took the name with pride, that was of course after he killed the man who gave it. He rules his gang with an iron fist, using fear and his tenacity to keep everyone in check. He cannot be intimidated or scared off, and is protective of his crew, providing they are loyal.
Background: It is rare for William to talk of his past, usually it only happens when his crew scavengers bring back some booze, but when he does he seems to talk with a tone of arrogance and disgust. Hell for all anyone knows it could all be bullshit, but the stories he tells are all anyone has to go on.
To put it simply, his family were a group of fairly rich doomsayer survivalists, believing that the apocalypse would come at any moment. So when Doomsday did finally happen, it was if all their pain and suffering wasn't pointless. However, despite all their planning, despite all their high tech equipment and skills they had learned, their plans didn't amount to anything. The rest of his family were killed on their way home when it first started, or at least they never turned up by the time William left the family bunker, three years after it all started.
After spending three years alone without any contact with the outside except a few radio transmissions that all ended abruptly due to operator failure from the people he talked with. Three years with only his thoughts and a few books to keep him sane, he left the bunker and took as many supplies as he could before concealing the bunker entrance.
After that he wandered around for a bit. He met many other people, some ignored him or him them, others who he allied with for a time, and others who attacked him. He even was allowed into one of the Govvy camps, however he didn't get along well with them and left. After a while he ended up with a group of Greasers controlled by someone who was even more of a tyrant than he is now. He and the leader ended up fighting for dominace with a majority of the group siding with William. When William won, he had the previous leader torn limb from limb and kept his skull as a trophy.
Goal: Rule.
