Hey, I'm Catharyn! I joined the Roleplayer Guild on 2nd Feb 2011, then rejoined on the 17th Jan 2014 after Guildfall.
I was active every day until late 2015, accruing (i think) around 7k posts across dozens of roleplays. Then, I started working and had to gradually slow down my RP schedule. In 2017, I officially went on hiatus when other commitments got fully in the way of roleplaying.
This continued until the COVID-19 pandemic hit, when I suddenly realised I had a lot more free time in lockdown! So in mid-2020, I returned to the Guild with a vengeance. I also managed to get The Cradle 1x1 off the ground - a story i've had percolating for almost a decade.
My posting schedule has slowed down a bit now that the world has opened up again. I still love science fiction, fantasy and espionage themes, and generally aim for around 300 words per post.
A picture is fine for the character appearance, with any other detail you want in text. If you want any help staying true to the period just let us know
Our story follows the crew and passengers of the OSN Galahad's Glare, dispatched to a world on the edge of charted space. Colonists there stumbled upon an ancient device, and unknown lifeforms that died defending it.
A sudden and abrupt attack above the planet of Outremer preceded a swift and brutal invasion by an alien species previously unknown to humanity. Larger, stronger and wielding technological advancements far beyond our own. The ferocity of these invaders overwhelmed Outremer's defences in space, and has descended into planet-wide conflict with the ground forces.
Officially, Galahad's Glare was sent as part of a reinforcing fleet. Tasked with engaging the alien fleet in space, and delivering ground reinforcements. Unofficially, the primary objective is to secure the mysterious device the alien fleet seem so intent on recovering, moving it to safety, and studying it's true purpose.
What they discover will rewrite history going back hundreds of millennia, and change Humanity forever.
Welcome to The Fall of Outremer! @Ozymandias and I have an incredible story lined up for anyone interested in joining. Characters can either be part of the military forces arriving as part of the relief fleet, its civilian complement, or can already be on the planet, whether as part of the ground forces, or a civilian looking to escape. We'll be posting a more information soon, and there are some essential character roles below (you don't need to play them to enjoy to roleplay though!). If you have any questions in the meantime, please don't hesitate to ask!
This hider outlines characters that may be integral to the plot. To play one of these characters, you must be a mature roleplayer who is able to take occasional instructions from the GMs. There are certain events that need to happen which you will be involved in. Don't worry - you'll still have the same experience if you choose now to RP one of these characters!
Please don't take it to heart if you submit a character sheet and we choose someone else. You're welcome to adapt your entry into a different crew member or civilian character. To save time, please feel free to run initial ideas for character sheets past us. The GMs also reserve the right to roleplay two or more of these characters.
Officer in charge on the OSN Galahad's Glare. The Commander is generally considered to be an honourable soldier, who strongly believes in defending humanity's citizens in whatever way they can.
The Academic
A brilliant scientist who specialises in xenoarchaeology (the study of alien civilisations through the objects they leave behind). Jumped at the chance to study a device that was guarded by an unknown species of life form.
The Operative - Played by Catharyn
A Naval Intelligence Division agent, sent to ensure mission success. They are direct, confrontational and committed to securing the device at all costs.
Name: Serin Öztekin
Age: 35
Gender: Female
Profession: NID Senior Operative
Appearance:
Backstory: Serin was born in Geneva, Switzerland to two members of the intelligence community. Mehmet Öztekin (Director of the European Union Intelligence and Situation Centre at the time) met Margarethe Strahovski (govt liaison at the Outer Systems Naval Intelligence Division) during a rare visit back to Earth to see her parents. Serin came into the world five years later. Much of her childhood was spent in diplomatic suites, her father trying to balance his duties with bringing her up. She did well in school and finished her formal education with a Masters in Intersystem relations from the Sorbonne.
The AI
The ship-board AI for OSN Galahad's Glare. They help The Commander and senior crew with practically every function aboard the ship. They can also send part of their computing power into an array of mobile droids to assist with off-ship activity.
The Protégé
The Academic's understudy and trusted assistant. Brought along for their quick thinking and asymmetrical problem-solving prowess. Ready to stand in for The Academic in the event of death in action.
The Galahad’s Glare is a Fourth generation Mercia class destroyer in the Outer Systems Navy. It’s 480 metres long and has a crew of 250 sailors, a complement of 50 marines and a squad of Salients - elite augmented soldiers.
As with all Mercia class vessels, the Galahad’s Glare boasts a good mix of speed and offensive capabilities. This comes at a cost of reduced armour, which Mercians compensate for by operating in large ‘Wolfpack’ teams.
It’s primary duty is to escort larger ships, but it does carry two troop transports and a small number of ground vehicles in its single hangar bay.
With most of the ship taken up by armaments and auxiliary engines, crew space is tight. There are only basic kitchen and mess facilities, with two rec rooms and a gym shared by the whole crew.
