Cody entered Sandgem Town, and took it in. With grass under her feet at last, Ponyta ran free and happy through the street. "Finally back in good old Sinnoh." He said. "So is this where we go our separate ways? Kite seems to think so." He said to Lasair. "What do you plan to do?"
"Many dog-like pokemon are afraid of thunder, from what I've heard. I'm not sure why. As you can see, I'm just a kid, so I'm no scholar of pokemon personalities and thoughts. Not that I don't plan to be eventually. That's what raising pokemon is about." Cody said. "You might want to find an Electrike to hang around Growlithe, so he can associate electricity with a good thing. Just don't put it in a battle with an electric pokemon before it's ready."
Team Cipher.
"A draw it is. It was kind of an unofficial battle anyway, I guess. If you want to know the truth, that's actually a Ditto. I'm a breeder, and focus on collecting and raising. I have a lot of info on pokemon, but haven't tried for the whole Gym challenge anywhere." "Yes. Home at last." Cody said, hearing the announcement. He was from Sinnoh, and had gone to a different region to gather new pokemon, but now he was home. "Alright guys. Stick together while I head to the cabin. Chansey, you're in charge." He said to his pokemon. Three of them were already together, and Chansey joined them at the bow. Chansey, being the caretaker, was usually Cody's second whenever they were out by themselves. They respected her as a matron, though she wasn't the most powerful among them. He returned to his room, double checking every item he had, and making sure he left the room tidy.
Ponyta noticed the trainer and a Growlithe approach her, but fortunately weren't trying to get in her personal space. She was more interested in the Growlithe than the Human, and tried to get a good smell of it. As a fire type, she felt some kinship to other fire types, though not all fire types felt kinship with her. Ditto, in the form of Riolu, and Smeargle, both acknowledged the new trainer and his Growlithe with small interest.
Oh, that's fine. Usually I play with the house rule that you don't dictate what happens to other people's characters, but I'll allow this. "Riolu" would have grabbed Silv, and let itsself get pulled up, anyway. That may have been a good time to show people that it was actually a Ditto, when it transformed into the Wingull, but the secret remains safe for the moment. :P
Ditto shivered, but much appreciated the rescue. It gave Silv and Jade a hug, shivered a bit, and ran over to Ponyta to get warm. Ponyta was a bit nonplussed by a wet Riolu trying to use her as a space heater, but after a few sniffs realized it was Ditto in disguise. Chansey produced a softboiled egg for Ditto to eat, and also went over to give Skarmory one. "Thanks for the help." Cody said. "I'm not sure if I could have used my pokeball to get him to return. My name is Cody, by the way." He wondered if he should spill the beans about Ditto, but would enjoy the surprise if Skarmory decided to continue picking a fight, and Ditto decided to turn into Ponyta.
To Cody's surprise, Skarmory landed in the water, instead of on the deck. It even seemed to have done it on purpose. He jumped up, and ran to the railing in the hopes of seeing them. "Hey. Can your Skarmory swim?" He asked Kite. Being a Steel type, Skarmory probably wasn't the most buoyant pokemon. Ditto would most likely be fine, but Cody was still concerned. If nothing else, spotting ditto would help Cody get him back into its pokeball. Ditto let go of Skarmory after they hit the water, and spent a few seconds under the waves trying to figure out what happened before making its way to the surface. The waves made it difficult to see much, though.
Ditto watched his opponent in the air, and dodged to the side when he saw the attack, but the stars turned and hit him anyway. Swift didn't do a lot of damage, compared to other attacks, but it never misses. After recovering, he couldn't think of a way to get up to Skarmory. He looked towards Cody, hoping for trainer advice. "Riolu?" He said pitifully. Cody gave it a little thought. He couldn't think of any ranged attack a Riolu might know, off the top of his head, but he thought of something else. "Look behind you. Use Quick Attack. Understand?" He said. Skarmory was in the air, but behind Riolu was the cabin of the ship, which riolu could use to get some height. He could jump on the rail, leap to a perch, and launch from there at Skarmory. Using Quick Attack, he could do this fast enough that Skarmory wouldn't have much time to react. Ditto understood what Cody meant, and pulled it off, launching into the air just above Skarmory to try to grab its wing and slam it to the ground.
Those sound like interesting ideas to me. The second may be a little cliche, but if that doesn't bother anyone else it won't bother me.
