Since time immemorable the Grand Republic has stood as a vestige of the old way. A Republic in the name, Karlev is a mercantile aristocracy ruled by a Council of Princes, who elect each new ruler as the next 'Grand Prince of Karlev'. The earliest mention of Karlev as a nation state in known history stretches back to the mid-14th century. Where, after generations of occupation by the former Osladian Empire, the Karlevian feudal lords and money-meisters rose in revolt against the crumbling Empire to stake their claim as an independent entity. From those early days as a fledgling city-state of Karlevygrad the Republic has grown to be an economic and naval powerhouse. Ruling both eastern continental naval trade and the waves of the Narrow Sea. However as Karlev enters the new century change is inevitable for the old guard Republic. The Merchant Guilds grow fatter and fatter, and do not take kindly to the bureaucrats in the White Palace demanding greater taxes upon their guilds and trade, and in the west Karlevian political commentators speak rumors of growing tensions between the other continental powers...

Map Claim: I saw a few other people apparently get their desired location and I'm sort of basing this little Republic off of this area on the map, marked in red. So I'll request that but if not I can edit my history/nation accordingly.

Also, where does everyone get their flags? I checked out a couple of "design your own flag" sites, but none of them were very sophisticated.

I usually use very obscure historical flags that no one will usually recognize OR I just scavenge from alt history forums and the like to get the ones I like. Will post some of the ones I've used in previous Theo RPs. I edit all of the flags I use via the program paint(dot)net to the same size, which is 400x240.

Heldemar Commonwealth

This one is a Pan-German flag used sometimes IRL, was created in Post-WW2 West Germany by someone who I've forgotten.



Also another version with a alternative format, I plan to use this one when posting for colonies perhaps?

Xian Republic

This one I found on a random alt history forum, it's a alternative flag of the original Republic of China's flag under Sun-Yat-Sen. Before I changed the flag I used the flag of the shortly lived Empire of China under pretender Yuan Shikai, the Hongxian Emperor.

Empire of Oslad/Osladian Federation

Theo's favorite nation I've RPed! This is a proposed Georgian (the nation, not the state) flag from the early two thousands when the nation had a flag referendum, I thought it suited the gothic tone of the nation while remaining Slavic so I've kept it since Theo's first RP on this forum.

Republic of Foucil

From Theo's short lived Call to Arms RP, this is actually kind of a shitty flag but it's very clearly French. Sad I didn't really do anything as Foucil in that RP, may bring them back someday.
