@LordofthePies Brynn nearly grabbed another roll, but her pokets were now full of the bread. She definitely couldn't eat anything else, but it still felt wrong leaving even a little bit of food behind. She hoped maybe that impression would wear off given enough time.
Come to think of it she was getting kind of tired. The dark starry ceiling didn't help any, nor did the lack of electric lights. "I'm sure all the teachers are nice. And about waking up early, my watch has an alarm!" she pulls her sleeve up, showing an old and rather dirty looking digital watch. The thing looks as though it's several years old, but the clock face still shows a time, so at least it works.
So i've been reading harry potter wiki all morning and these are some neato things i thought you'd all find interesting. ( all cannon and written by Rowling :> ) I tried to keep it shorts :0
Azkaban! -Aurors guard azkaban after Dementors were purged. -The place also literally seeps dispare as it was made by a nutter who liked torturing muggles and got away with it until he died(but that was ages ago, i just thought it was neat)
Boggarts! -Boggarts are a lot like dementors, they aren't actually alive. just like there??? -also Moody might've known what they looked like cause the magic eye thing -Boggarts haunt muggels too, who knew :0c
Cauldrons -Cauldrons are enchanted to be lighter, usually not much else. -Potions need an open fire to be made so that's why wizards don't use stoves
clothes! -Purebloods didn't like the secrecy thing so they did the funniest things -wizards without so much pride tried their best to blend in but like mostly just the children succeded in blending in as parents wore super outdated clothes (grandma in ti dye balloon pants I'm dead) -Okay but more importantly stuck up wizards wore the most ridiculous clothes in protest, and muggles thought they were just students on a dare. -There are fines for not following the dress thing
Sorting hat/hatstalls!! -So like a hatstall is when it takes longer to sort a kiddo into their house. -5 minuets is a long time and the cap on how long a hatstall is. -Nevil was a hatstall he was like "Im a huffelpuff for sure" and the sorting hat is like "LMAO You thought!" It took like 4 and a half minuets for Nevil to quit arguing. -hatstalls happen when a wizard thinks they belong in a house where they don't -AKA not harry he was half and half so he got to pick. -The hat is a genius its got the four founders minds -and it uses legilimancy (cool cool)
Hogwarts express -It's just a train. -Like not even a magic train, it's a regular train. -It uses track to go to hogsmead (In the Scottish highlands BTW) -Pureists didn't like it at fist but didn't have a whole lot of a choice about the matter.
Leaky cauldron -If anyone can drink a whole pint of the nastiest liquid called "gamps old pint" there's a hundred galleon prize. -It's so disgusting nobodys ever won, it started in 1650
sicknesses -wizards easily overcome 'mundane' illnesses like the flu and broken bones -Magical illnesses like dragon pox not so much -werewolf scratches/bites and limbs lost to spells are included as magical
inferi -spooky zombies -actually zombies are a different though still real thing -don't like flames as it's the only way to kill them -they got white eyes otherwise their body is completely preserved -They basically do what they're told to do and have no conscious of their own (perfect though mindless soldiers -most dark wizards make them avoid fire
Measurements -wizards don't use metric and the secrecy thing happened before muggles turned to metric -Wizards just use magic to get their portions right -I can't think of what it's called but they use inches and pounds and maybe even Fahrenheit(?)
Minister of magic -first one was Unlick Gamp(the very same from the nasty drink at the leacky cauldron) -Ministers are usually elected and elections happen every seven or so years -Sometimes the position is just offered to wizards -Ministers usually stay for a very long time as there is no cap on their term.
Muggle borns! -im going to quote this ;> -"Muggle-borns were not only accepted, but often considered to be particularly gifted." -that's it
names -Wizards name their kids pretty much anything -Some wizards choose normal names, others do not -some families have a naming motif (EX the blacks named their kids after stars/constellations). -There are seers to tell about a child's destiny or whatever and they suggest names, this practice is limited.
owls -All owls are wizard owls except a small few -Owls are in fact a little bit magic -some animals are just more magic than others -owls can trace anyone who is not actively hiding themself via magic. -Trained owls are heck of expensive though -most families have one owl, maybe two
potions -you gotta use magic w/ a wand for all potions AKA muggles could never make a potion -potions are used to get an effect that is difficult/impossible with other magic -potions can only be undone by other potions -polyjuice potion last 10 minuets to 12 hours depending on how well it is made.
pure bloods! -nobody is a true pureblood anymore, or at least not their whole family. -it's more of a political view saying "i'd never marry a muggle and muggle+wizard relations are gross" -Salthazar wrote this "supposed indicators of pure-blood status, aside from the family tree. The most commonly cited signs were: onset of magical ability before the age of three, early (before aged seven) prowess on a broomstick, dislike or fear of pigs and those who tend them (the pig is often considered a particularly non-magical animal and is notoriously difficult to charm), resistance to common childhood illnesses, outstanding physical attractiveness and an aversion to Muggles observable even in the pure-blood baby, which supposedly shows signs of fear and disgust in their presence" -I'm just over here like "physical attractiveness" I'm still laughing -"fear of pigs and those who tend them" OMG -Okay but the Department of Mysteries did studies and proved these all false, most 'Pure-bloods' still cling to them as truths -The 28 'Pureblood' family names are "Abbott, Avery, Black, Bulstrode, Burke, Carrow, Crouch, Fawley, Flint, Gaunt, Greengrass, Lestrange, Longbottom, Macmillan, Malfoy, Nott, Ollivander, Parkinson, Prewett, Rosier, Rowle, Selwyn, Shacklebolt, Shafiq, Slughorn, Travers, Weasley, Yaxley" as anonymously published in the 1930's -A few families on this list declared that they had muggle ancestory(Weasly's) -others not on this list declared that they were pure and deplored the fact that they weren't on the list -anyway that's a lot of info.
GETING INTO HOGWARTS!!!!! OMGOMG OMG There is a book and a quill in a small locked tower at hogwarts. The quill writes in silver magical ink always attempting to write magical children's names in the book. The book refuses to allow the quill to write in it until there is at least one defining sign of magic. This is the only way children get into Hogwarts.
swords -wizards used to use swords when they fought muggles cause using a wand was un-sports-manly -This is why Godric Griffondor wanted a cool sword -not all wizards followed the 'only use wands on other wizards policy' -many wizards knew swordsman ship cause they would look hecka cool -swords are sadly outdated now :,(
technology -The ministry killed the TV for Magical folks, they were just like "nope can't do it" -but they let radios slide -Generally speaking magical folk have no need for technology -but many magical folks think cars are neat (even Purists)
frogs/toads -frogs/toads were never popular pets -they were for potions not pets -young wizards preferred owls or cats really

Well anyway, he was right she'd need to figure out were to go to get help with magic. Luckily the table was pack full of other students.
She signaled Bishop to wait with one finger before turning to one of the older looking Hufflepuffs and asking, "hey do you know who my friend and i could go to to figure out some magic before class starts?". The tall Hufflepuff smiled. She'd known many young first years like Brynn, eager to learn. "Sure, you should try out Professor Longbottom. He's a grand old chap with lots of great stories and experience. Teaches DADA in the north tower, though wait until tomorrow. she wink before turning back to her own conversation.
Brynn swivelled back around to Bishop with a grin. "There you have it cool guy. We can go see this Log Bottom guy tomorrow.
@MissCapnCrunch Alex was about finished for the day, and then the announcement came. Fighting in general sickend him, but the cheerful don't use to much of your strength you might kill someone really just over did it. To top things off another person, who he'd never even seen before, decided it was her business to be up in his business.
He walked a little faster hoping maybe she'd leave if he just ignored her "hey you", but no such luck. She easily caught up and offered her company.
How was he supposed to deny that. He didn't have any good excuses or really any reason not to let her join him. So instead of just saying no, and maybe going back to his nice dark room, he said " uhhhhhhhh, I guess. Free country right,". God he was such an idiot.
@LordofthePies Brynn looked back over the food, there was still so much despite everyone having eaten so much. It pained her to see it all go to waste after growing up with so much less. She grabbed a few rolls just in case.
"Yeah, everyone here seems really nice. I agree about the Slytherins a little. They didn't have to be such poor sports, booing when other houses got students. It's not like everyone can be in Slytherin," she paused, sitting up a little to see over everyone's head.
Up at the head table was an array of teachers, each looking very experienced in magic. Then over at the other tables. Most of the older kids looked scary, especially Slytherin now that Bishop pointed it out. The people on the train came to mind too. "Hey, Bishop later on can you come with me to one of the magic classes. I wanna get a head start on magic. It seems like most kids had a head start. "
@CallMeChaotix A written description (including height, eye color, hair, ext.) might be helpful. Though some people (me) have trouble making character descriptions sound like anything more than a list.
For nearly an hour Vayla tried to aid Alex in controlling his powers. Alas the boy was too unstable. He had it set in his mind that he was a failure, and so that's what he saw in even his achievements.
After so many 'failures'- he nearly blew up one of the camps newer additions- the boy simply got up and left. He didn't need a camp counselor or anyone else to show him how awful he felt.
He sulked into camp, dark hood pulled over his head. He didn't really want to go back to his cabin. He didn't want to be anywhere.
