Damn Advanced Roleplayers! They ruined the Advanced section!

Iwaku has already done this, but the said site asks for your age when you register an account since the subforum is age-restricted.

I mentioned this in the topic that gave birth to this one - I have no problem stating my age if it gave me the ability to hide sexual content and allow others to avoid writing adult content with minors who can easily (and have) lie about their ages.

Just a dream not a real suggestion. But expansion. Conventions. I know that text roleplaying is usually done anonymously and in dark places. But so was anime now it has got huge conventions year round.

It is just a dream right now, but Mag and I have seriously spoken about the possibility before. It has crossed some of our minds!

Oh agree with you there. The fact the mods only pick and chose what to deal with is a huge problem, as well as their inactiveness. (Which frankly is maddening...) With the amount of people on the forum, we do need more mods and ones that are active. They need to be changed out if they are inactive. It probably wouldn't hurt for Mahz to implement a Mod Staff Leader, who for lack of a better term - Mods the Mods. Those that aren't doing the job are demoted. When we need more, they take care of that. (Which actually it probably wouldn't be a bad idea for this topic and topics like it to be tagged for Mahz and the rest of the mods. With as little as we see some of them, it needs to be brought to their attention that people on a larger scale see this and notice it. For all we know, most of them don't even have an idea this is going on because it gets lost in the shuffle and when they show back up nothing is being said.)

On a side note - I would love to see the forum get away from the Free, Casual, Advanced sections - Those really don't work.

I strongly agree with ALL of this.
No to everything Vance just said.

None of Vance's suggestions would be possible for the community to accomplish anyhow. I do back the idea of adding a block/ignore list though. I think that would be extremely helpful for avoiding the feuds that we all constantly come across.
I thought of a few suggestions while doing notes:

  • RPGN isn't as consistent as it used to be, but what if we were to make a fanmade version of it?
  • Taking a page from Iwaku for a second here - updating/adding guides to the appropriate section and linking newcomers to them.
  • Reviving the Contest function and/or creating our own (we could always come to include poetry, artwork, writing song lyrics, etc).
  • Recruiting prospective coders to possibly help Mahz out around the website (this one is faaaar to idealistic).
  • Possibly reviving the website chatbox (not sure how useful this would be with all the Discords floating around though).
  • Holding community events - I honestly have no specifics for this quite yet, but maybe like a CaH Night or something like that.
  • Actually reporting people to the Moderators as needed in order to make the website feel less "lawless".

That's all I have for now. Might add more lately.
The thing is, the GM's are desperate for their large playerbases, and don't give a shit half the time. While some GM's have level heads and think shit through, other people just want those 10+ players for the sake of having extra stock if a few drop out. The shift in quality due to this is painful at times, and then the decent people leave, and the worst of the community is left there. Then the GM kills it, or the players just don't have the ability to move forward due to either being unable to do anything themselves due to incompetence, or because the GM isn't hand holding.

Or it's plot-heavy and the GM just flops. Because that happens.

I'm not sure if this would help, but maybe someone (or a group of individuals) could write up a guide for new and/or inexperienced GMs on how to NOT kill their Roleplays? You make some valid arguments that I think any GM could benefit from hearing.
But, that brings me to the one thing that we as a community can do better: communicate. Try not to play the clique game so hard, and try to bring other people into the mix.

This is a really good point and one that I would like to see go somewhere. We have the Guild Discord which was a(n) utter failure beginning, but I'm trying to think what more we could do. Holding contests, advertising, and reviving the Guild News may be a good way to start.

Not having anyone who can write something this goddamn stupid

I don't think the community has the ability to control content.
I highly doubt that there is anything the community could do to fix this, but it's worth a shot to see if there's a genius out there who may have a solution: finding a way to separate interest checks looking for sexual content opposed to those that are not in the 1x1 section.
Hi, I'm Cynder and I've been trapped on the Guild for approximately six years now. I'm a nineteen year old deadbeat from Massachusetts in the United States of America who has fire for blood and rides a polar bear around town. I've been Roleplaying for about 8+ years and I'm currently looking for a Roleplay that is creative, original, and severely lacking in the sexual content department. If I had an exact idea of what I was looking for, then I probably would've made this Interest Check in General, Free, or Casual, but I don't, so. . Yeah. . There's that. But hey, if you don't mind working with a potentially indecisive person, then I may just be the person for you!

There's also a few side notes that I should note such as the following:
  • I'm a nineteen year old female and I don't care about the age and/or gender of my partner.
  • Keep sexytimes, fetishes, rape, incest, bestiality, and relationship abuse away from me. I don't want none of that.
  • I have spotty activity and suffer from ADD, so I may occasionally vanish. I'm very loyal though - I always come back with responses.
  • My responses may be a little slow until May 19th which is when I get out of high school. After that, only work will bother me.
  • I don't have a preference for how much my partner writes. One-liners? Novellas? Paragraphs? Cool. I'll just try to match your length.
  • I'm a disgusting filthy weeaboo and I only use anime imagery (or similar styled art) for the appearances of my characters.
  • I prefer to use more than one character and/or NPCs. I will play any gender, age, and/or archetype that is required for my character(s).
  • Don't come to me with this HUGE character sheet that you expect me to fill out - I don't mind filling one out, but I prefer only the basics.
  • Romance is usually an element that has to "naturally develop". I'm fine with MxF, MxM, and/or FxF.
  • Although these are forums, I actually prefer to Roleplay on Skype, Discord, and/or Steam should that interest anyone.
  • I need a partner that is interested in plotting/OOC chatter.

Annnnnd then there is what I might be looking for:
  • All these real life teases to World War III actually makes me want to write something about it/related to it.
  • A mystery plot would be sweet. A mystery murder or a mystery with supernatural content would be double sweet.
  • Something "slice-of-lifey" focused around a group of friends that is ordinary, but maybe not (I just want to use a lot of characters).
  • Anything involving GOOD horror. Please.
  • I'm never against a good rebellion plot - especially one that has dystopian elements.
  • Or just anything involving dystopian societies. I love those.
  • Just give me apocalypses and post-apocalypses. Anything. Zombies, nuclear fallout, eternal winter, I don't care.
  • I will tentatively offer to Roleplay the following fandoms with unique twists: RWBY, Pokemon, and/or Persona.
  • I am also willingly to Roleplay crossovers or anything that offers supernatural elements and is unique.

As long as Mahz doesn't start taking money to plaster ads on the front page for roleplays, I'm okay with getting some of Iwaku's cool shit. RP ads would be total aids, though.

Well uh, don't we have a subforum partially dedicated to suggestions for the site?

Everyone just uses it to report bots, but it's there.

Considering the inactivity of Mahz, I'm not sure how much that would accomplish. It's definitely worth a shot, but I'm thinking more along the lines of what the community could do to fix the problem that quite a few of us have agreed exists.
As much as I hate Iwaku for the exact same reasons I've started hating this place (Except ten fold, that community sucks dick, seriously), they do this well. If I don't want to see that shit, I don't have to; Because it's in it's own subforums away from the potential roleplays I'd be interested in doing. That site is very good at filtering out things depending on people's preferences. And if there's anything to respect about that forum, it's that one fact.

That and it's fucking fantastic coding for posts. Like, when I tried that forum out for awhile and came back here I was so disappointed with what I had to work with. Thankfully our coding has improved a bit. But Iwaku's is just so much better. x.x

We could learn a lot from Iwaku. And they could learn a lot from us - like how to not isolate their own members through the use of cliques. Seriously though, someone should implement a subforum that could be shown or hidden with a focus on sexual Roleplay content.

And on a side note: How to improve the Guild thread when.
Honestly can't blame people for leaving, considering the shit that goes down here on a constant basis.

RPGuild has only gotten worse over the last 3 years, from what 'quality' we had before the guild went down. It's just been a slow, but certain descent that is more depressing than anything else. Casual is slowly becoming the new Free, 1x1's are becoming more and more smut focused. Like, what is this, Bluemoon? It's not as bad on the fetish shit, but it's still pretty saddening. I just want to write a story, but if there's no smut within two pages, you're gonna drop?

Honestly, most of what I have to say more belongs in the bitch thread, so I'll probably just go rant over there. But if people do start joining, I can only hope we don't continue the trends that have been infecting my favorite one-on-one roleplaying subforum.

This is also another possible factor that I forgot to mention - there's a serious decline in Roleplay quality. No sections truly offer variety anymore and 1x1 has basically become a place that Roleplayers uninterested in smut/romance Roleplays tend to avoid. I still believe that the Guild desperately needs a system to separate smut-based Roleplays from ones that lack sexual content similar to Iwaku's system.
