The sound of machinery and life outside slowly woke Jeonbae up from his inn room in the city he had been trading in for the past few weeks. He glanced over at his timepiece on the side table, and jolted upward as he realized what time it was. The Aging festival was scheduled to happen today, and while he wasn't going to be testing to become a GreatGrandpa quite yet, he was looking forward to see the progress other dragons had made. However, he had slept in late, and now had very little time to get his belongings ready. He quickly buttoned a shirt on and pulled on the sarouel, then moved over to the other side of the room in a few strides to grab his purple robe from one of the hooks on the wall, donning it rather unceremoniously. He quickly threw on a scarf and pulled some gloves over his draconic hands then adjusted his round, dark glasses on his nose, making sure to also tie a bandanna over his head to cover his horns. He had traded everything that he brought away and moved all the money to his home in the dragon tribe, so the only other thing he had to take was a small bag of coin and the room key, both of which he snatched off the table. He hadn't brought his staff with him either, leaving it at the tribe. He'd have to run a while, he couldn't transform into his dragon form in the middle of the street without people noticing.
He clambered down the stairs as fast as he could into the lobby, the scents of motor oil and smoke right outside the door. Fishing the key out of one of his pockets, he placed it on the desk loudly and gave a quick thanks to the receptionist before dashing out the door. He ran down the street, dodging steam-powered vehicles and other people. Soon enough, he reached the edge of town. It was still a while until the dragon tribe, but now that he was away from prying eyes, he could easily fly the rest of the way. He shifted into his dragon form, flying straight up into the clouds.
Soon enough, after half an hour or so of flying, the light ripples of the magical shield surrounding the tribe came into view. Jeonbae started descending towards the ground, passing through the shield without interference. The central area of the tribe was already filled with dragons in their compact form, having conversations or just waiting around for the ceremonies to start. Jeonbae landed on the dry earth, switching back to his compact form. He looked around the crowds, trying to find someone he knew. He couldn't see anyone he recognized, but he would first have to go talk to Mirazan, the GreatGrandmother. As he approached her, he noticed another dragon, probably a teen or so, blue scales with feathered wings, slithering over to the training area. He smiled, he liked to see other dragons making an effort to get stronger, it was kind of empowering in a way. He turned back to Mirazan, and bowed.
"Good afternoon, Mirazan. Apologies for being late," Jeonbae said, smiling slightly. "It doesn't seem like they've figured out where the tribe is, so we have nothing to worry about for now. Nothing to report."
"If you need anything from me, please let me know." He bowed again and walked away, going over to the training area where that other dragon was going. He saw the same blue-scaled dragon breathing electrical breath on a steel pipe, along with another dragon, a white dragon with jagged horns that he hadn't seen before. As the blue dragon kept breathing electrical energy on the pipe, it quickly melted into a puddle, a look of disappointment crossing over the dragon's face. Jeonbae, who had been watching, spoke up.
"You want to concentrate on making the breath a little less strong, if you can control it," he said, taking off his gloves, glasses and bandana. "Too much electricity can make a lot of heat, causing metal to melt." He grabbed another pipe and stuck it in the ground, holding a clawed hand out. Electricity arced towards the pipe, but it didn't melt. After a few seconds, Jeonbae concentrated more power into the electricity, and the pipe started to melt.
"Sort of like the first time, I guess. I can help you train if you like, I remember the aging festival being a pretty big deal for me when I was a teen" he said sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head. "By the way, my name's Jeonbae" he spoke up again, smiling a tiny bit.
