Well damn...

"Well damn."

The announcement turned automatically turned off her speaker-- no one touched her tunes. Still, she realized the gravity of the message, and petty anger over needing to rest a musical device seemed innappropros, all things considered. That didn't mean she... he -- they, Ness and the persona of Marinette, freaked out, Marinette simply blended in the background noise of the other reactions with a shrug. The threat of death was the thing that scarred her the most, but even that failed to break through her poker face. She tried to handle it coolly, that was who Marinette was, perhaps with slowed actions, she picked up the cigar Hazard dropped with the announcement and puffed away as the rest of her party dealt with the news.

Mantam fainting even made her chuckle a little.

Well damn.

The two words perfectly summed up her reaction to the news. Marinette recognized the possibility that it may have been a hoax-- or some in game event-- something though, her intuition, told her it was something more serious though, and if that was the case, she really didn't have much of a choice. No point in raising a fuss.

She was Marinette, the free-running freelancer-- protected by Marinette the Loa! She'd be fine.

...still... might wanna sacrifice a pig or two...

Marinette took the cigar out of her mouth and exhaled from her nostrils, "Well damn..." She parroted herself, she approached Hazard and Catty, a smirk rising on her deadpan face, "Looks like we'll get those team fights now... Should've been more careful what I wished for!"
Ye
"No" the younger of the two older white gentlemen was the first to respond to her, he seemed annoyed, like an exhausted parent having to deal with questions from children, "I seem to have hit a roadblock and don't have a destination picked-out anymore. Seems I've already talked myself out of looking for a government hand-out and Yuri here talked me out of going into town to look for survivors."

He motioned to another individual... Yuri... That was the older one's name, that was distinctly eastern European. That brought an interesting question into Denny's mind-- what about the rest of the world? America was a powerhouse, but it wasn't the only, nor the most powerful in the world. Was the rest of the world okay? Hell, even ignoring east Europe-- what abut the east coast? She hadn't been getting any raw information about... anything. Not recently at least.

"Huh... well..." She shifted uncomfortably, she didn't need the gun, these were just people gathering, not really sure of where to go next, like her, "It'll cramp, but... I don't think the owners would mind if you, umm," She raised her hands in a weak air quote, a slight smirk forming on her face, " 'borrowed' a few cars... I've slept in worse places, and.. well I think, being able to move quickly is good, y'know? That... and the government can't be completely gone yet, right? So being near a radio has to be good." She glanced at Charlie, realizing neither of them discussed their plans for survival, "Well, that's what I was thinking of doing-- for a while at least."

Out of the corner of her eye, Denny noticed the guy with his swords moving to speak, "We don't want to go to the fort. Everyone who made it out of that damn blockade fiasco is heading there. It only takes one person being ignorant to how this plague works, one person thinking they can fight their fever, and that entire population will be compromised. if we're gonna stay in a group like this, we've got to find a middle ground until we can build something permanent. Not too many, not too few. Safety in numbers, Danger in communicability. We should find something big and easily closed off. Something the few of us can defend and easily take to the rooftops to find food and other supplies. What's more, we don't know what kind of system those soldiers are gonna be using. If food starts to become a commodity, can we trust the strong, organized group with guns to protect and serve like they should? Or will they do what they feel they need to in order to survive? No. We have to trust eachother. And we definitely cant trust any sort of militant group. What's more, we shouldn't deliberate too long. As people realize they are trapped in this city there will be more and more looting. We need to hit the major targets first. The best places would be organized or institutionalized facilities since they would have supplies for living and caring for people who cant leave. thats us now. We've got to take over something like that. And we have to do it fast."

He quickly moved away after he said his piece, Denny found herself staring in silence for a moment, giving another glance to Charlie, as if to say 'What!?' A part of her recognized, that if this did indeed become an absolute worst case scenario then... maybe? But she wasn't ready to give up on the government yet. What was baffling is how... out there... it all seemed, so suddenly.

"... Right," Danielle muttered, to no one in particular. Her eyes wandered to the younger male leaning against the wall, and the red-headed girl, both looking apathetic... perhaps rightly so. She looked back to man who had first responded to her, he seemed like he most... 'in the know' about what was going on here.

"So... are you all a group? Are you guys related or friends, or something?"
So Boerd said 1. Say conquest is dead to Putin in Ukraine and China in the Senkaku and Spratlys.

Okay, you got me. That's literally the only contemporary example of this, though, but you're right, it is significant.

Now, the HOPE is that the world will react accordingly to this EVENTUALLY, we'll need to wait and see though. There's also that there is a very strong Russian culture in Crimea and we don't have the full story regarding that, approval ratings in Crimea toward Putin say, to me, that we aren't getting the full story.

So Boerd said 2. Conquest is expensive only when the others resist. How much would the little cities of Alaska be able to resist a Russian invasion, when all of Ukraine can not? And in light of Russia and China, the country would reform into the US rather than be conquered

But lets be real though, the UN, let alone the US and our allies would never abide by this. Russia wouldn't even try it because Putin is smart enough to know they'd never get away with it in the global stage.
Hmmm, there really isn't much constructive Kukcoo can do right now, and with Gogo under, it'd just be a fluff post about how she helps defend the ship. I'll try and post, but if I don't just assume she rocket boots her way back onto the ship before it leaves.
"Right," Denny left the truck as it came to a stop, she figured it was safe enough to leave her bag inside, but she made sure to keep her gun plainly visible in her right hand, she slammed the door and found herself approaching the group, she was anxious and shaky, but she felt compelled, the confidence to wave to them coming from the same place the confidence to introduce herself to Charlie came from.

They aren't sick, it's going to be okay.

Immediately, she saw the children, a man who was their... guardian? A woman... and several men, two, older looking gentlemen who appeared to be talking, a third who seemed to have been the first to notice Charlie and Denny's approach, and another... with... a sword?

It was the sight of the kids that made her relax the most, and the light of the rest stop did put her ever increasing heart rate at ease, still wary, though, the approached the young male, the white haired female, and the two older men. Taking a page from Charlie's book, she figured bluntness would be the best approach.

"Hey..." she observed the rather... 'cosmopolitan' group, more curiosity than fear, now, "Did you guys... like... run out of gas or something?"

"Mari, play some music!"

Marinette watched with a smug amusement as Hazard returned to his old self, rolling in the grass, almost as if to shake off the affections she and Mantam had showered him with. He was someone who could be serious when he needed to, but obviously preferred to keep things light and carefree, it was something she admired in him.

In Ness' experience, it was those types of people that always made for the most chill bros.

She took another puff and exhaled, "Oh, I got the perfect one!" She changed the function of her... weird... rose-thing... from headphone to speaker and leaned against the cave wall in a way that found her slowly sliding down, until she sat in the grass. She toyed with the cigar, keeping it just out of his reach, before tossing it into the air, game logic dictated he'd probably catch it perfectly in his mouth.

"Y'know what I wanna do?" She leaned against the wall, just barely hearing Mantam address Prince inside the Cave, "Go out and fuck some shit up-- like really--- I like the social aspect of this game, but a lot of the time, I wanna go do something crazy, like... team fight a lvl. 20 orc or something. Y'know?"

Oh hey Mantam

To everyone:
Head over to the OOC if you're still interested. The tentative goal is to start sometime this weekend with anywhere from 5-10 people, currently 7 spots remain.
So Boerd said 1. Security concerns. Your micro democracies are essentially unable to defend themselves, so very rapidly if not actually reform the United States they will make alliances and engage in offensive-neorealistic conquests. The United States today is without peer, consequently, we don't engage in "War of the Spanish Succesion" style wars of containment, nor do we constantly subjugate like Napoleonic France. When we had ONE peer in the USSR, the world was worse as a result.

The political climate isn't the same though. These micro-democracies would have access to modern technology and education, and relations with each other in a way similar to the UN. Conquest doesn't happen today because conquest is expensive and generally looked down upon by people, especially toward democracies.

So Boerd said 2. Identity politics. The more identities there are, the harder it is to appease enough of them to ride them into power.

I think that's a problem big and small governments would face.
