Chess is the most serious of them all.

Reminds me there was a time when Ted Kord beat a super-intelligent alien at chess using the rest of the Justice League as pieces.

Chess CAN be the most serious after all.

~|Khan Sainen, Prisoner Complex (Aurek)|~

Khan stopped eating and listened as still and attentive as he possibly could despite the still very present allure of food to his mostly empty stomach. The plan seemed good to him, although then again he had never plotted a prison escape before. Still he did his best to memorize all the details although he was a little disappointed at his lack of a role in the escape. Then again he figured that in an emergency he could at least help open the doors and operate the lifts and fight if it came down to it.

Besides, if they had to fight it would just complicate the escape. So he sat and listened, nodding occasionally and displaying sharp interest with his posture, but tried to make it a little relaxed in case that was the sort of thing others could pick up off of the cameras that recorded them and spoil their attempt or something.

Khan couldn't sleep any longer. He was far too wound up about their future escape attempt to try resting anymore. He tried meditating, only to find he couldn't stop from fidgeting and losing focus either. So he switched to meditating in the Echani manner, running through several forms and movements though not the most acrobatic ones so as not to disturb others. Still, after a while he found his mind growing restless. Deciding he would rather not spend the time waiting in isolation, he went over to the Medical Bay to talk to Xid. Khan wasn't sure if Xid would be able to hear him in the tank full of kolto, but it was probably pretty quiet and lonely for him in there anyways and the Echani needed someone to talk to at the moment.

He froze as he walked in only to notice that the tank was empty and Xid was gone! He searched the room first, even trying to look behind the tank on the off chance that he'd somehow missed the young Jedi Knight. No, he was definitely gone! Entirely not in the room. Forcibly slowing himself down and keeping himself under control, Khan padded back out to where the other room and looked to see who was awake, his eyes settling on Lea first. He walked over to her and leaned in to whisper so as not to alarm the others or wake anyone who might still be asleep.

"Xid gone! He's not in the tank anymore or anywhere near where we're supposed to be! Also we're supposed to be escaping tonight! C'mon and help me look for him before he blows the whole attempt up! I'll fill you in on the details!"
Sorry for my long absence everyone, I've been fighting illness. But now I should be better if all things go well and will have a post up by tomorrow my time.
Just a short Ted post to get the ball rolling with him while I'm not feeling well, I should be able to follow it up shortly though

Chicago, IL
Kord Industries HQ,
Primary Laboratory

Yes, it was another bright day in the Windy City, the home of billionaire genius inventor Ted Kord, ever hard at work in his laboratory working on scientific marvels that the world has never seen at every moment!

"OMNOMNOM!"

Or shamelessly using working in his lab as an excuse to indulge in junk food while he worked without being judged. But then, was it really his fault that Big Belly Burger was both addicting and a perfectly portable food for science-on-the-go? Plus he was hardly working on anything delicate, just making modifications to his B.B. Gun. Even if he did need some more important and sensitive work, he had plenty of help for that. Speaking of which-

"Hey Ted, could you hand me that laser cutter?"

A shimmering hologram manifested next to him in the form of his own grinning self and picked up the tool in question before walking back over and handing it to the inventor. His whole building was equipped with hard-light hologram projectors of his own design with an extremely humanlike AI that aided in everything from giving tours to home defense to helping with lab work. The fact that they were programmed with a fairly accurate summation of his own genius mind was just an added bonus.

"Sure thing Ted! and may I say you're looking particularly handsome today!"

"Right back at ya Ted-ster!"

A door at the back slid open and another Holo-Ted ran in, excitedly waving his arms.

"Hey Teds! Ted and Ted just got the new version of The Bug up and running! We're at 90% solar power!"

The real Ted Kord gave his holo-duplicates a thumbs up

"Great work Teds! Give yourselves a pat on the back for our in-TED-ible work today!"

"BWAH-HAHAHAHA!~"

"BWAH-HAHAHAHA!~"
"BWAH-HAHAHAHA!~"

Ah, sometimes he made himself laugh. But the joking around and junk food and casual super-science was interrupted by something serious and unprecedented. It was an alert from the vault where Ted stored some of his most valuable and dangerous projects and items, specifically from its' deepest and most well-guarded layer. It was the place where he kept the artifact entrusted to him by his old mentor Dan Garrett: The Scarab. Dan had thought the Scarab was an item of mystical power, but over years of analysis Ted had long ago determined it was actually some sort of alien super-technology, centuries ahead of even some of the other alien gadgets and gizmos he'd studied in the past. Dan had activated The Scarab with magic, but he'd always said it had a bond with him, a bond Ted had been unable to get it to answer to, causing him to conclude that the use of magic had damaged it somehow. As a result, he had used the Scarab as an object of study but otherwise locked it away for safekeeping.

For years, ever since the death of Dan Garrett, the Scarab had lain dormant and Ted had gone about his work and become Blue Beetle on his own merits.

But now...now the Scarab was awake.

And it was sending out a signal.

Hmm If we're talking frontier Tony then that's a fair assumption to make, seeing as he hasn't actually had any IC stuff to prove himself (Although it's still just that, an assumption.)

Though if we're talking 616 Tony then that's a big fallacy. If we're talking combat training then he's had plenty of that from the likes of Steve Rodgers, Rhodey, SHIELD, ETC. On top of that he has far more suit-based combat experience than Bat's, which has to count for something. And, as D quite rightly points out, Tony's top-tier suits are ridiculously powerful. To beat Tony at his best, Bats would have to come in his best too, and I don't think it would all that cut and dry.

I don't know that much about Ted, but isn't he like the king of wasted potential? In that he's happy to just goof off when if he applied himself he could be a Batman-tier hero.

I'm not sure if it's wasted potential so much as he's just a lot more relaxed than Bruce and Booster was a massively bad influence on him (He actually mentions on-panel at one point that he used to be a really serious and competent hero before meeting Booster) plus he's had major confidence issues. Not only that but depending on incarnation, the JLI team was ridiculously overpowered considering at various points it had Captain Atom, Martian Manhunter, Doctor Fate AND a Green Lantern all on the same team, so a lot of the time they relegated Ted to transportation and comic relief. Once when he got serious, he casually modified his standard taser to become powerful enough to K.O. Metallo in one hit and in a second instance he was able to beat an energy vampire that previously took the entire JLA to beat by converting Booster Gold's force field into an energy draining device. I haven't found scans, but I've also heard there was an issue where he was brainwashed and took down most of his own team with Batman commenting that a serious Ted could give him a run for his money.
Not in the best suit no. Iron Man's BEST suits are ridiculous even by 'Batman fighting Superman or other more-or-less gods' standards IIRC. But I thought we were just discussing in terms of specs?

Also weird thing about Ted, he's apparently capable of designing some really very impressive super suits including one for Booster that let him not only have impressive superpowers but also kept him alive when he would otherwise have needed an artificial heart and an iron lung, but he never really wears any himself.
I mean, since Tony's the PRIMARY super suit builder, wouldn't he win?
That's part of what I like about Ted. He's a goofy, friendly down-to-earth knucklehead, but then occasionally he'll effortlessly reverse engineer a piece of alien tech, or find a way to modify one of his gadgets to knock out enemies capable of fighting Superman, or a telepathic alien warlord will off-handedly mention that his mind is the only one other than Martian Manhunter's that he's having difficulty breaking or something. He's this joke-y, fun character who secretly has a lot of potential while also being pretty relatable.
By the way @Morden Man would it still make sense for Reed and Ted to know each other? I think Ted might want to bring some things up with him...With Luthor too probably.

Although with @Blacksam3091 playing Tony now, poor Ted will probably hardly rate among the geniuses/businessmen/technological vigilantes of the world.
