Welcome to my little personal den of Hell! Sorry, sorry, I meant my personal profile. Same thing, right?
I'm a roleplayer, same as any around here. I've been doing it for about five years now, coming up to six in September. Its been quite the time, thinking back. I started out fresh as can be, understanding the basics of writing but never quite knowing how to become better, or become as great as those around me. In the end, I did the only thing I really knew at the time:
Write as much garbage as possible and hope for the best!
As you can see, that particular tactic fucking failed. Jokes aside, I like to think I've developed a lot over the years, both as a writer and as a person. However, absolutely nothing can dissuade my weeaboo ways and supporting my OTP with all that I can freaking muster! If you haven't already guessed, said OTP is Chrom x Robin (Chrobin) from Fire Emblem: Awakening. Highly recommend the game, there's a reason (other than nintendo's cheapskate attitude) that it hasn't dropped in price, it's honestly the best place to start off in the series. And hey, maybe you'll end up addicted like me and want to buy every game on the 3DS like a fucking loony?
Speaking of loonies, the Fire Emblem Chrobin Comic Dub Project has recently finished, so for those of you who also appreciate the best ship in existence, I highly recommend it. Hell, even if you're not interested in that, I do highly recommend watching it for those into fantasy love stories. The quality improves drastically with each episode, so trust me when I say by the end of it you should be thoroughly impressed. It has helped motivate me in ways I can hardly describe with words, and so I thought the least I could do was put this out there. Maybe it's not for everyone, but I know it was the perfect thing for me.
"Do you think you can tip any of the scales in here?" "Chrom, for the love of Naga, I'm thinking..."
"So I heard."
"There are better places to take a nap than on the ground, you know."
There is a universe. No-one knows it's name, where gravity wasn't strong enough to bind matter together and no stars formed. And because no stars formed, no stars exploded. And because no stars exploded, no planets came about. And because no planets came about, there was no life.
There's another universe, no one knows it's name, where gravity was strong enough and did light the stars and planets came about and boy, they were gorgeous, planets in perpetual winter, planets in perpetual summer, planets that could rival the Garden of Eden and no bloody snakes! And on one of them, eventually, complex life evolved and one of the species developed large brains learned things like manners and dabbing, when they looked up at the stars and wonder what they were doing here. You called them octopuses, I suppose. Gosh, they were clever, for octopuses, and one of them, several million years in, almost wrote something in ink on the seafloor, a message to its friend. And the message almost read: "Hi! How are you?" And a few millennia later, space folder back on itself and, you get the idea. Goodbye Octopi.
There's another universe, where life formed on every planet, in every solar system, and it was carbon-based, it was silicon based, it was made of crystals and water and plasma, it was made of quantum fields and light, and everything was alive, everything was doing a boogie, and it was everybody's birthday, everyday, relatively, and everyone got presents, and they had over a trillion languages, some written down, some only spoken, some conducted telepathically, and they bought a galactic civilization together, as a perfect unity, sharing stories, sharing technology, speaking a common tongue, understanding everything about how the cosmos been put together. And finally, when everything was sorted, the galaxies were arranged into perfect geometric formations, transmitting pure love, and wisdom, and birthday greetings to all species in the universe, for all time. Papercuts never happened, coke came in glass bottles, no one even remembered the word for war, everything was beautiful and nothing hurt.
And yet, for a quirk in their evolution, because resources weren't scarce enough on the planets these species developed on, not a single creature in the universe was conscious. Food was eaten and no-one enjoyed it. Movies were released, and there was no laughing, or crying. No-one chuckled at a joke. Ever. Space collapsed back on itself, eventually, and there hadn't been a single moment of sentience in the entire history of creation.
There's another universe, where the strong force is too strong the weak force is too weak and nothing forms. Another, where life develops too late when the Stars have all gone beyond the light boundary and there's nothing to even see. Another with too many dimensions. Another with not enough. Another where time goes in the opposite direction, and species begin as gods, and wind backwards to cells, and never learn to survive. Another that only lasts milliseconds, and collapses in on itself, and heads straight back to oblivion. And that's how it just might be, across all possible universes, across all possible space times. Problems with the laws of nature, not enough resources, missteps in evolution. An atlas of dead-ends.
Then again, there is one exception.
There's another universe, a big one, where life is rare, where intelligent life is very rare indeed, the stars are very distant from each other, the laws of nature are very complex, it's extremely lonely for any species developing, and most never even develop at all, but somewhere, we believe, is a planet where the oceans are vast, and the climate is varied. Where the smartest species on the planet may have developed just the right mix of ambition and kindness. And if you were to travel there, to this unbelievably rare statistical anomaly, to this impossibly lucky planet, where evolution, biology, chemistry, nae, the laws of physics themselves have come together to create sentient intelligent life, you may be able to catch the native inhabitants singing for joy. Of what an impossibly lucky, and rare position they find themselves in. It is a chant of gratitude, a ritual of showing appreciation for ending up in perhaps the one universe, in the one solar system, on the one planet with all the basic ingredients for intelligent, conscious life.
Mayuri awoke with a start, sheets twisted and body covered in sweat. Her alarm hadn't gone off yet, and wouldn't for another eighteen minutes or so. With an irritated sigh, she bundled back up and turned on her side, wanting to get some more sleep before she had to get up. Unfortunately, her brain seemed to not agree with her decision. Curiosity and grumpiness overtook her thoughts. That dream was so strange. She could make it out so clearly, remember it so vividly, but it was so loud! And it riled her up so much, too! So much for a good night's sleep...
Wearily, the eighteen year old sat up, rubbing her eyes and looking out the window at the rising sun from her room in the Cayman District. Beautiful, but she wasn't quite in the mood after that dream. Nightmare? Whatever. She decided to get ready, seeing as she didn't have much else to do that morning, beginning with her hair, breakfast, and school uniform. She appreciated a good coffee, and made no discrepancy in inserting a pod into the machine, knowing full-well how loud it was and that it could potentially wake those in other rooms. A few careful seconds passed by silently, to confirm that all was good. Mayuri took a nice sip of her coffee, though almost burned her tongue in the process...
School uniform was a simple matter of dressing in and out of, and she wasted no time in getting in once she had brushed her hair. Quickly texting her parents group chat a simple good morning and that she was heading out, Mayuri stepped out into the cool morning air, briskly taking the outside stairway to the ground floor... Before immediately heading back up again after realising she had forgotten something very important. Twist of the key, flick of a switch, a slight-of-hand snatch, and out she was with a necklace around her neck. It wasn't anything too special - a silver amulet with a black jewel in the middle. However, it had been passed down to her from her grandfather, along with his special cards she'd always loved. He claimed it embodied "bold truth, which could never be denied regardless of beautiful ideals." He never explained what that truth was, however did ask that Mayuri always live as truthful as possible. She always had, and always would.
Double-checking to make sure the cards were still in her bag (which they were), Mayuri safely set off towards the train station bound for Catalyst Academy. It was a pleasant trip, despite having to stand and not much to do. Many other students stepped off the train with her, heading inside to their locker. She traded a book or two and switched- "Mayuri!" "BWAUGH!"
... The taller teen was frozen in a strange pose, looking down in relieved terror at the person who had scared her. Her friend, Chihiro, was shorter and thinner, with auburn hair and features which came across as more rounded than Mayuri's face. She began to giggle, then full-blown began laughing in her face at her reaction. Mayuri, sensing a bit of cheer in her day, giggled too. "What was that, Mayu? Bwaugh? Are you pretending to be a bird?" Chihiro snorted with glee. Mayuri shut the locker door as she readjusted her posture. "Yes, actually, and I was frightened by the terrifying creature trying to eat me." The comment earned her a punch in the arm, but it was worth it. "Ow... OK, OK, it was only a heart attack, calm down." The pair entered deeper into the building and began to roam towards their group's gathering place: on a park bench by the bicycle rack. The area was quiet due to how little people rode by bike to the school, as well as the fact it was opposite to the main entrance. The two talked while they walked, not paying attention to much save the way towards their destination and each other.
@Dynamo Frokane Quick question Boss: Can we straight up trade for other players cards? Or do you have to battle to win cards? Or do we only get new cards through loot boxes booster-packs?

❰ FEMALE ⟡ 18 YEARS OLD ⟡ TWO YEARS ⟡ SHUMI ISLANDER ❱
Personality: Mayuri is a roleplaying enthusiast. She loves crafting stories for others to be a part of, to be part of collaborative written works, as well as creating characters. She has a tendency to portray herself as these characters from time to time, including the male ones. She enjoys play-by-post, tabletop, and live-action RP the most, and is committed to going to events which involve them. Outside of roleplay, she's otherwise a very fun-loving girl. Video games and videos make up much of her time when she's not busy at school, working, or roleplaying, all of which she does to a high standard (except school). While seemingly concerned about her weight, she doesn't seem to want to do any hard work to change it.
Hobbies & Interests: Roleplaying, video games, videos online, food, relaxing music, philosophy, and science.
Bio: Mayuri was born on Shumi Island where much of her childhood would be spent. She grew up, made friends, and got pretty good grades. She never took up on sport, as her father got her into video games when she was young, and had a small circle of close friends. Unfortunately, she had to move to mainland Japan with her parents and younger brothers and sister, after her father found a better-paying job there. She lost many close connections and become rather depressed. In an effort to remedy this, her father introduced her to the online world, which she took to much better than either of her parents expected.
As time passed she made more friends in Japan than on Shumi Island, some online, some not. She bounced back incredibly well and was quickly the happy and spontaneous young girl she had always been. After some time online she discovered roleplaying, and passionately fell in love with the concept. Many of her friends today are also roleplayers, be it online or offline. As she entered high school she was to move back to Shumi Island, and managed to retain her connections with friends through the internet. She got a job to pay for visits so she could see them in person, and has established a solid social life. Her grades, while still passing, aren't as great as they used to be, however. The Dark Knight of Kron-Nesis; The Strongest Knight in the Realm; Guardian of Princess Azymn.
R A C E
Halfling; daemon-human.
T R A I N I N G
Maryvale has received extensive training from the Grand Marshal of Kron-Nesis, both in the way of her sword as well as her darkflame magic powers. Though not a practitioner of darkflame himself, the Grand Marshal is a user of light magic, therefore perfectly countering Maryvale and allowing her to never go overboard. The Dark Knight has received this training much of her life and has since become a master of darkflame magic and her sword, Dark Vibrance.
E Q U I P M E N T
Maryvale's sword personally crafted for her by royal blacksmiths. It is made of a heavy black material found deep within the mountains of Kelnore, making it a very rare resource. This resource has incredibly high magic conductivity, allowing one to channel magic through the sword itself, as well as nullify magic which comes in contact with it. The added weight allows the blade to strike harder and cut deeper, however Maryvale needs to remain in top condition to use it effectively. Her fighting style revolves around its top-heavy blade, often slashing in an arc. The blade is said to be nearly indestructible.
◈ Dark Armour: Maryvale's armour isn't as special as her blade: it's an alloy of the same dark material her blade uses and steel (mainly steel). While this slightly strengthens the armour, as well as gives it a slight tolerance to her body's exertion of magic, the extra weight makes her heavier, and ultimately slower. It also doesn't do much to stop incoming magical attacks. The helmet is always worn in public.
◈ Earrings: Earrings which Maryvale never seems to remove. They're enchanted with a spell which changes her eye color to blue, as well as helps hide her daemon heritage. They're of simple design, made of silver surrounding a small gemstone in the middle, which changes from blue to red when she puts them on.
◈ Journal: Maryvale's journal helps her keep track of locations, creatures, and memories. Not being particularly intelligent and often forgetful has lead to its prolonged use. It is simple by design with a worn, red leather cover with a large 'M' printed on the front. Most of the handwriting inside is atrocious.
S P E L L S K I L L S
◈ Darkflame: An incredibly powerful and violent magic, darkflame magic is virtually never found in humans. Even by daemon and demon standards, this blood-related magic is steeped in legend, said to be used by ancient demonic royals. Inherited from one of her parents, Maryvale yields this magic with a gifted potency. With the help of her sword she can use it to send waves of arcing purple fire at her enemies, scorching and charring any who get in the way, able to turn some to ash with enough intensity. However, the magic isn't without its drawbacks. Darkflame causes physical harm to those who wield it. Unless you're a pure-blooded daemon, you will be hurt whenever you use it, and Maryvale is no exception. Her armour and half-blood ancestry help weaken this slightly, however the injuries are still notable, especially when she uses high-intensity magic. Like some magic it also drains her stamina with use, so she also tires while sustaining injury.
O T H E R S K I L L S
◈ Perceptive: The Dark Knight has a strong sixth sense. If something is up she will often feel that something is wrong, though won't be able to tell if someone has an arrow aimed at her back. She's oddly good at puzzles despite her lack of intelligence.
◈ Intimidation: With so much infamy, it is only natural that Maryvale would need the intimidating skills to back that up, and she certainly does. She conveys much of that intimidation through her body language and tone, which she is something of a master of using. It has come in handy once or twice before.
W E A K N E S S E S
◈ Forgetful: For as great a combatant as The Dark Knight is, she is awfully inept out of combat. The first of the long list of failures is her inability to retain knowledge. This forgetfulness is pretty severe, and healers for the royal family suspect it is a form of amnesia. Some speculate it is due to injury, though others believe it could be due to her heritage. Regardless, her forgetfulness is so severe that if she didn't have her journal to remember things, she would be halfway to The Unknown North by now.
◈ Illiterate: Maryvale cannot read or write very well. Though she speaks mostly alright, only fumbling with certain words, she has a complete lack of literacy skills, and is unable to complete tasks which require extensive reading or writing. Her tutor is non other than princess Azymn herself, however even she finds Maryvale's lack of reading and writing skills a challenge.
◈ Intelligence: While not entirely stupid, Maryvale shows a fair bit of incompetence. She fails at understanding complex subjects and has a fairly simple mindset. Before she had her journal she would get lost constantly, and she relies heavily on other people when it comes to direction, social interaction, and strategy.
◈ Light and Ice: The two hard-counters to Maryvale's otherwise unbeatable power are those skilled in ice and light magic. Light magic essentially nullifies her power completely, and skilled ice users can overcome the intense heat of darkflame and rid it when the ice melts. Though she has trained to fight opponents with these very magics, she is still at a disadvantage when facing an enemy using either or both of these magics.
A F F I L I A T I O N
Kron-Nesis; Royal Family of Kron-Nesis; Princess Azymn; Grand Marshal Lenius.
P E R S O N A L I T Y
Stoic and serious, Maryvale is a woman of few words. She has been raised since her youth to be obedient, to take orders, to be a soldier, and has found only recently a voice for herself. The Dark Knight has a fondness for animals, often enjoying their company over people, as well as gardening, surprisingly. She has an utmost respect for the princess which she serves under, and considerably less respect (though respect nonetheless) for the remainder of the royal family. She reveres the Grand Marshal of Kron-Nesis as a father-figure as well as a savior, for he was the one who brought her out of slavery and into the realm of kings.
She can be rather secretive, particularly about her identity outside of the royal family and those within the castle. She's passionately sympathetic for people, a trait she picked up from Azymn, and likes to assist those in need where possible. Despite this passion, she isn't a member of the Order of the Radiant Sun, largely due to her lack of faith in general. In combat, she's merciless, and will not hesitate to deal with threats that face the princess. Her incredible combat prowess has made her a threatening presence, even intimidating, and leaves many-a-wrongdoer on-edge when she's around.
H I S T O R Y
Maryvale's story begins young. She has no memory of her parents, and no real memory of her childhood. She knows she was taken in by strangers, but was left in the streets to fend for herself. The city of Dou didn't take well to beggars, thieves and poor. Maryvale, being a mix of all three, was an outcast. She was caught by the city guard when she was seven, and made to serve for a week. She had nobody to fall back on after her arrest, if there was anyone before. She resigned herself to fate, giving up on life, starving in the backstreets of Dou. There was no God who could save her. No person willing to care.
No one... save the Grand Marshal of Kron-Nesis. Fate had been kind to her the day they met. The Grand Marshal had lost his only daughter to illness months ago, a daughter so like his wife and unlike his two sons, who looked more like him. Maryvale had a striking resemblance to his deceased daughter. He couldn't help but feel as though he had been guided to her. It was only by chance that they had met, but it was a chance that turned Maryvale's life around completely.
She was thus named Maryvale, and became the daughter of Grand Marshal Lenius. While his sons held noble blood, Maryvale was not allowed to pursue the luxuries of nobility with her brothers. She had been adopted, after all. Not to mention the nobles of Kron-Nesis would never accept one of impure blood -- a halfling daemon child at that -- to become a noble, even if she had been adopted by the Grand Marshal himself. Therefore, the only true way to show her worth as noble blood would be to have her become a knight. And bribe the Court Wizard of Kron-Nesis. Once Maryvale had unlocked her magic potential, Lenius used this to win over the Court Wizard. She admitted herself to the Court Wizard's personal study on rare magic (along with a bit of gold) in exchange for earrings which changed her eye color from red to blue, and minimized (though not completely hid) her daemonic aura. The gold would help him keep quiet.
Now able to become a knight without being scrutinized, Maryvale worked hard in her early years. Despite the reluctance of the royal family, Maryvale proved her usefulness as a potential bodyguard and retainer. During those early teenage years she could defeat rookie members of the city guard and noble children of the same age as herself, not to mention she had held off assassins long enough to save the life of Princess Azymn. It was another case of luck at play, placing Maryvale in the right place at the right time. Just when the princess was to meet with death, Maryvale had interrupted. She only managed to kill one of the assassins, and was severely injured in the fight, but lasted long enough for the guards to arrive and apprehend the remaining assassins. Practically at death's door herself, she was rushed to the closest temple.
Throughout her recovery, Azymn would visit, bringing with her flowers. The two would plant them, watch them grow, and then pass away. After awhile it began to upset Maryvale that the flowers would simply pass away. So, Azymn taught her gardening, and how to take care of her own, long-lasting flowers. For the remainder of her recovery, as well as afterward in the early hours of the morning, the two would practice gardening when they could. For some reason, Maryvale began to adopt traits from Azymn around this point, as though trying to imitate her. Their bond grew incredibly close during this time, to the point where Maryvale even admitted she was not human, however their positions made it hard for them to continue seeing one-another.
And then she was told by Lenius that they were having dinner with the king. The Grand Marshal had planned around the princess and his daughter's relationship, taking advantage of it to help advance Maryvale's status and promote her further in the eyes of the royal family. It certainly surprised the king that Maryvale was the one who saved his daughter. That was a kindness which deserved at least some kind of reward. And her reward was an opportunity. She was set to keep up with unrealistic standards: Be the best knight in the kingdom in return for the position of royal retainer of princess Azymn. It was an impossible uphill battle, but not one that Maryvale would give in to easily. She continuously improved for years, dedicating almost her entire life to being the absolute best combatant in Kron-Nesis. Many with more experience knocked her down, beating her again and again. But Maryvale kept improving.
By her twentieth year, Maryvale is the strongest knight in Kron-Nesis - a feat which shocks even the Grand Marshal. Though certainly not the youngest to hold that title, she is the youngest (and one of the first) women to hold it. After several years of dedication to combat, Maryvale has finally become royal retainer to princess Azymn, her most trusted and closest friend.
Ever since, all Maryvale has done is continue to improve. While she has very little real-world combat experience, she has shown promise in the little bouts she has been a part of. Maryvale is content with her life of servitude, and eternally grateful to the princess as well as the Grand Marshal. She continues to be Azymn's retainer, and will protect the princess with her life. However, it is rumored that the king isn't particularly fond of Maryvale, and is being encouraged by the nobility of Kron-Nesis to get rid of her.
So I haven't done anything because I only just thought of it and I haven't GM'd in about two years now, but would anyone be interested in an Overwatch RP? Can't say I'll go through with making it, but I'm curious how much interest there is here.
I was thinking of using OCs rather than the characters from the game, though I'm not sure about plot or anything like that. New recruits after the Recall, perhaps?
@Raylah Currently crafting a dark knight retainer/body guard for the princess of Kron-Nesis, assuming that's something you're interested in? I still need to discuss the idea with Zhaliora tho :D

Another where time goes in the opposite direction, and species begin as gods, and wind backwards to cells, and never learn
to survive.
