Gershwin was sure all three of them were losing body temperature. Looking back to the two as she blindly guessed her way through the forest, she observed the two: Cody was regenerating all he could with the little energy he had, and Caits was surviving with about as much. Cody, despite being the more functional between the two, could not shield himself from the freezing temperatures. Snow was gathering on Caits, piling on her lap as they managed through the uneven ground.
Gershwin turned around and stopped. The three halted in their run as they listened. Through the howling gales of the icy winds, they could hear propellers in the distance. They had to keep going, and fast.
She noticed that the longer they stayed out in the winds, the more she started to emit a red glow. Yes, she admitted to herself, it hurt. The sharp shards of ice could tear skin at these speeds but she pushed through. She slowly started feeling her temptations to break out. Her corneas were scratched as well and she now only saw in red. She controlled herself, so as to gain confidence from the other two, but she was afraid.
At last, Gershwin thought she found something. In the white background in the distance ahead, a formation stood strong against the gusts of snow. Its rectangular shape showed it was a small logger's shed. If it was abandoned, they could stay in there for as long as they wanted until the snow died down. If it was still occupied... perhaps they could be reasoned with.
She rushed to the wall and reached for the door knob. At this point, her whole right arm was glowing red and with Herculean strength, she crunched the metal lock and pushed the frozen door in. She rushed them inside and shut the door behind them.
Her eyes did not need to adjust to the darker shade of light in the room. The windows were covered with snow that obstructed much of the light. It was a camp layout inside, with a sofa and bookcase near the East wall. To the left was a fireplace with no firewood, a radio that was taken apart and its bits laid out on the worktable, and a giant carpet that covered the floor in front of them. Strangely enough, however, the room was fairly warm and cozy.
The next second came, and Gershwin panicked. The helicopters flew above them. With inference from the Doppler Effect, the distancing sounds meant that the search team - it was obviously a search team for them - was heading to the village they had just escaped from. They had not been long before they found this shed. The only thing that the three of them could depend on now was that the search team would not be able to find the building with the low visibility outside.
Gershwin fell to the floor and was fighting with herself. Apart from Cody's light, she shone brightly as well. Part of her wanted to stay away and hide forever - part of her wanted to rip off the search team's stomaches and feed them to each other.
