"We're not as safe here as you might think, Gerswhin. They're looking for-"

Coduy sat up bolt right, throwing out a hand, light engulfing them like a box, matching the walls around them, he rose, uncurling from his sitting position smoothly, he tilted his head, listening.

"Someone is out there"

he spoke softly, glancing over to Caits, to Gershwin. the minute the person tried to get in, they'd know that there was someone with powers in there, protecting them, and if they knew about his abilities, and saw the light box, they'd know who was in there.

"We don't have long"

"Yes, Viccar does a lot for me, because I have to deal with incompetent idiots like you, and that sucks up my time. As they're can't be two of me, Viccar fills the gap" Maria said calmly, moving right on. "Your agent will fail. Agent Caits is one of the best Agents we had, her skill with weapons, her abilities shown in her escape with the subjects show that she is highly adaptable. She is intelligent, and charsimatic, able to get others onto her side with relative ease. You should not expect help from the locals"

Maria shook her head, sighing.

"the subjects are dangerous. Subject 29, at the least, can be the most volitle, but subject 30 has proven that he is not adverse to killing, and his abilities to regenerate do not seem to be limited to what type of light he receives. We know he is energised by light, and sought to keep him in darkness, but this did not seem to stop him.

The agent should not engage either subject, nor the agent, directly"

"Our agent is well-disciplined, and will report back anything immediately."

The video conference had ended. One by one the faces disappeared from Maria's laptop and everyone resumed their operations of handling this shit-storm. There were now reports of people protesting outside the Turkmenistan government building - and some have resorted to violence with tipped-over cars, petrol bombs, and aggressive behaviour. The people are scared. At this point, people don't want to know why this creature came into existence, but more really they want to know that they can get rid of it.

However, there is a problem. The Russian respondent lied; Andjela is not well-disciplined. She is a ruthless loose cannon. She's armed to the teeth with the old wartime bases and bunkers littering old Soviet Russian lands. There's probably another shitstorm coming.

Andjela was in the hallway of an old house. Its brick walls provided reliable warmth for those inhabiting the place. She noted the door all the way to the back of the house, as well as the staircase leading to another floor upstairs, and the basement door in the far wall. The few people that had been staying in when Andjela entered had either scuffled back to their rooms, unable to escape through the front door. Let them handle their business, they must have thought. They wouldn't dare interrupt her, not when her blade was against the landowner's throat.

"Соседи сказали, что вы уже выходя из вашего пути, чтобы ухаживать за кем-то; вы пропустили собрание, ваши ежедневные прогулки ...

Где они? | The neighbours have said you've been going out of your way to care for someone; you missed a gathering, your daily walk...

Where are they? "

The landowner, who omitted a foul, drunken odour, cigarette bud fallen from his fingers, afraid to speak as his stubbly throat pressed against the sharp edge of the blade, replied carefully:

"Я не знаю, о чем вы говорите! | I don't know what you're talking about!"

Andjela smirked, knowing fully well he was lying. She dragged him to the kitchen, shoving him to the ground as she searched the area for clues. Her eyes caught the trash bin - and the blood-soaked gauze and bandages the landowner must have forgot about.

"Ушиблись, у нас сейчас? | Hurt yourself, have we now?"

His eyes were wide and scared, his body trembling with the chill of the harsh weather, and the nearing of the end of his life. He barely registered the blade flying toward him as it pierced his left eye and into his frontal lobe.

She slowly crept her way to the staircase to start scouring the rooms. Anyone smart now would have betrayed the three targets now. Fortunately, an old couple were perched on the top step, yelling at the top of their lungs:

"Они внизу! В подвале! Пожалуйста, не убивайте нас! | They're downstairs! In the basement! Please don't kill us!"

She kicked the basement door open, and chucked a flame grenade inside. Targets be damned.

Dara woke up and rolled to the empty side of her bed. Thy had woken up early and had probably gone outside. She climbed out of the bed, and took the twin's slippers. Really it should just be called her slippers, because Thy almost always goes barefoot anyway. She hadn't forgotten about her dad in the middle of the night, and as she walked to their living room she prepared herself to talk to him. Instead, she found that there was food prepared on the rickety table, and no dad to be seen. Used pans and cutlery was evidence that he had cooked and left early. They ought to discuss it tonight instead, for dad must be trying to find some way to solve their predicament.

The twins were about 11 years old but they were already very self-sufficient and mature for their age. Leaving them to stay at home alone and play outside in the neighbourhood wasn't uncommon, and their neighbours had gotten used to it. Dara walked to feel the bright sun baking on her dark skin. Her eyes adjusted to the dirt and mud-covered roads, the Cambodian infrastructure not very well-developed in Siem Reap, despite being a tourist spot. Only the inner city was urbanized, whereas the rural areas remained rural and will probably remain rural for quite a while. Potholes and cracks were present, and there were more motorcycles than cars for better manuveourability in these bumpy roads. Rubbish and wildlife littered the sides of the roads, no streets or pavements bordering the people from the vehicles. Everyone had the mind of minding where everything was, and it was fairly safe. Dara walked to the empty lot that the twins frequented, not surprised to see Thy there playing with himself in a dirt mount that was as tall as a man.

Dara reached out to Thy's mind and spoke telepathically:

"ដែលជាកន្លែងដែលឪពុកជាអ្វី? | Where is dad?"

Unlike Dara, Thy cannot speak telepathically, and spoke out loud:

"លោកថ្លែងថាលោកកំពុងតែស្វែងរកជំនួយមួយចំនួនដើម្បីជួសជុលរ៉ឺម៉កម៉ូតូកង់បី។ គាត់បានប្រាប់ខ្ញុំពីអ្វីដែលបានកើតឡើងនៅព្រឹកនេះ។ | He said he's looking for some help to fix the tuk-tuk. He told me what happened this morning."

Dara was just behind Thy when she saw him perform his gift from the Gods:

For a ripe young age, Thy possesses an incredibly powerful Earth manipulation - meaning he has control over the earth and any earthen material whatsoever. The twins found that Thy can only do this if he has contact with any earthen material, thus his accustomed state of going barefoot. It had first been slight: being able to shift the soil and sand under his feet, to being able to locate and manipulate metals touching the earth or buried within, to being able to manipulate actual bones and fossils. Many things have earthen materials in them, and Thy has shown that he can control them. What Thy was doing now was reanimating the fossil of a dog's skeleton, the gaps filled in with compacted soil, controlling this terra-reanimated animal.

There was no school today, so Dara and Thy looked to spend the afternoon looking at what else they could do. They feel great power within them, but they had to learn how to use it.

Cody's wall reflected the grenade, and would protect them from the blast. He was up, and immediately he went over to Caits, gently taking her weight, he looked to Gerswhin, his eyes tragically understanding.

"You can go hide in a hole all you want, Gershwin, and live trapped by what they have done to you.

But whatever you decide, please help me get Caits to some sembalence of safety. We owe her that, at least"

He grabbed one of the bags, slinging it over his shoulder that wasn't supporting Caits, Cody was tired, and annoyed at having been found so quickly, after everything. Gathering light, he let it out in a small explosion ourside his walled box, careful not to damange the buildings foundation, hoping to take down whoever it was attacking them. Cody, while he didn't want to kill anyway, knew that he might have to, once more, to protect them all. He lowered the box, stepped out, and glancing about, shifting so that he was in front of Caits slightly, protect her from further harm.

Maria gave a sigh, and closed her eyes. She was more then certain that the Russian was lying, but she couldn't prove that until the agent screwed up. Which would of course blow everything out of proportion again. And that would somehow be her fault as well.

She picked at the files, at the new information coming through and sighed heavily.

Andjela rolled out of the way of the incendiary grenade. The blast caused enough damage to break through the walls bordering the hallway and the kitchen in which Andjela had rolled into. Furthermore, flames were now creeping, burning down the staircase above the lower stairway where the three targets were. Never-mind that Cody was being careful as to not bring down the building; it was already happening.

Andjela decided best to re-position herself outside of the house that was not slowly being consumed by fire from within. The residents who heard the initial blast were paralyzed with shock, debating whether to jump out of their windows albeit their rickety old age and weak bodies, or to accept their fate and be cremated.

Andjela is seated outside, waiting, admiring the fire from a distance, white clothes against the white snow. Perhaps she did not even need to break a sweat to take them out.

Light whipped out from every cornor, every shadow, wrapping around the residents of the building, steadying their rooms, and creating stairs that wouldn't burn, for them to escape, almost like fire escapes, Cody seeming to act without thinking when he spied the flames. It was an incrediable display of power, and one he didn't stop to consider would blow her cover. it was already blown, he figured, when he did stop to think about it. Especially if the Agent survived. At least this would be a demonstration to the Agent that they should be so foolish. Cody shifted, so that he was in front of Gerswhin, well aware that pain was a trigger for her, and figuring for the moment, they didn't need the building to truly come down on them.

Shifting, he carefully moved Caits onto his back, seeming to bare her weight with ease, allowing himself to keep his hands free, as he approached the stairs, weaving light underneath his feet along the stairs, starting up them, hoping that Gerswhin was following, he weaved a light shield, placing it in front of him so it moved with his walk, protecting them, expecting another attack, and wanting to be ready for it.

Anytime the building appeared to be faling, he weaved a box around them, stopping a moment to make sure it was okay, before continuing. He used his heightened senses to listen for any sound of collapse, and for any sign of the Agent, he was soon panting, finding himself still slightly weak from the escape, he was straining under Caits's weight, and the power he was weidling.

"What power..." Andjela spoke under her icy breath in the blowing winds. With her condition at the moment, there was no chance of winning. Her best bet was to retreat, await further command, and arm herself. She crawled away before getting up and disguising herself, disappearing into the white background of the snowy village.

Meanwhile, the display of anomalous powers is going to attract all the attention of any nearby. With the people managing their escape, and the three walking out of the breaking building safely, it is time to move again.

"Guys, we need to go. I'll try and find us a way somewhere," Gershwin remarked as they exited the building. Unfortunately, with the snow winds picking up, and their insufficient amount of warm clothing, this was going to be dangerous.

"Follow me."

Gershwin tugged and helped Cody to carry Agent Caits. Perhaps there was a way through the small forest. She eyed her surroundings; the people were watching. She doubted they really knew what was going on, but it was best to not be seen, and worse, be the blame for all this.

Viccar picked up on a notification 10 minutes after the fact of a strange event that occurred in the southern part of Russia. Light shone immensely and curiously in a building that was up until that point burning. He rapped on Miss Jordan's door excitedly before entering:

"I think we found them."

Cody didn't hesitate, following Gershwin, he knew that they wouldn't survive long in the cold, and Caits was still quite injuried from the escape. Cody began to weave a wheelchair like object out of light, making big round wheels, he set Caits in it, pleased that it didn't fall apart. Cody just seemed to be acting, rather then thinking, not stopping to even consider if that was possible.

He began to push the chair, hesitating, he weaved light about them all, hoping it would keep them warm. the Agent seemed to have given up for now, perhaps retrating, and Cody was glad of that, for the moment. As they walked, Cody kept his senses wide open, making sure no one was following them, he also made sure they were going to be attacked by some wild animal as they entered the small forest.

He constantly checked ove Caits as they walked, noting the slight lowering of her heart rate, her breathing turning slightly shallow. If they didn't find somewhere warm soon, she was going to be at reeal risk of illness, or hypothermia, despite his light, and he caught a slight ratte in her chest, her ribs causing her discomfort even as her body grew cold.

"Gerswhin, she's losing body temperature"

"At let me guess, the russian fool bungled it?" Maria asked wearily, knowing the answer all too clearly. Viccer wouldn't have said think, if it was true, if the agent had rounded them up, "We need to get men there, before they can go into hiding again"

Gershwin was sure all three of them were losing body temperature. Looking back to the two as she blindly guessed her way through the forest, she observed the two: Cody was regenerating all he could with the little energy he had, and Caits was surviving with about as much. Cody, despite being the more functional between the two, could not shield himself from the freezing temperatures. Snow was gathering on Caits, piling on her lap as they managed through the uneven ground.

Gershwin turned around and stopped. The three halted in their run as they listened. Through the howling gales of the icy winds, they could hear propellers in the distance. They had to keep going, and fast.

She noticed that the longer they stayed out in the winds, the more she started to emit a red glow. Yes, she admitted to herself, it hurt. The sharp shards of ice could tear skin at these speeds but she pushed through. She slowly started feeling her temptations to break out. Her corneas were scratched as well and she now only saw in red. She controlled herself, so as to gain confidence from the other two, but she was afraid.

At last, Gershwin thought she found something. In the white background in the distance ahead, a formation stood strong against the gusts of snow. Its rectangular shape showed it was a small logger's shed. If it was abandoned, they could stay in there for as long as they wanted until the snow died down. If it was still occupied... perhaps they could be reasoned with.

She rushed to the wall and reached for the door knob. At this point, her whole right arm was glowing red and with Herculean strength, she crunched the metal lock and pushed the frozen door in. She rushed them inside and shut the door behind them.

Her eyes did not need to adjust to the darker shade of light in the room. The windows were covered with snow that obstructed much of the light. It was a camp layout inside, with a sofa and bookcase near the East wall. To the left was a fireplace with no firewood, a radio that was taken apart and its bits laid out on the worktable, and a giant carpet that covered the floor in front of them. Strangely enough, however, the room was fairly warm and cozy.

The next second came, and Gershwin panicked. The helicopters flew above them. With inference from the Doppler Effect, the distancing sounds meant that the search team - it was obviously a search team for them - was heading to the village they had just escaped from. They had not been long before they found this shed. The only thing that the three of them could depend on now was that the search team would not be able to find the building with the low visibility outside.

Gershwin fell to the floor and was fighting with herself. Apart from Cody's light, she shone brightly as well. Part of her wanted to stay away and hide forever - part of her wanted to rip off the search team's stomaches and feed them to each other.

Cody did his best to protect Caits from the weather. He himself seemed to regenerate any damage to his body quickly, saping his energy, but it wasn't something he could control. As Gerswhin led them to an abandoned-or hopefully it was-he let out a slow breath of relief, noting Gerswhin struggle with, he supposed, her abilities. As they entered, Cody listened for any sounds that someone was there, the sounds of the search team unnerving him.

With a soft sigh,Cody shifted Caits from the crafted chair tothe sofa, making sure she was okay, he checked her over for any serious signs of hypothermia. After Making sure that Caits was okay, he carefully approaching Gerswhin, drafting a wall around Caits to protect her if Gerswhin did lose control. Cody wasn't worried. He could regenerate.

"Gerswhin..."

He gently. slowly reached out to touch her, unafraid. Cody didn't know what he could do, but he hoped to be able to help, even a little bit. He knew he should be careful, he had been there for what Gerswhn had done, but sometimes being careful wasn't suited.

"...They won't find us, and if they even get slightly near, I'll be able ot hear it..."

He wondered if simply talking would help. Maybe he was just doing it for himself. He kept his voice low, gently touching her. It seemed foolish to say that it would be okay. Nothing had been okay for a while now. He sighed softly.

"We need you, Gershwin. It doesn't matter if thats as you are, or as...your abilities make you. But right now, we won't survive a battle. I'm still so very tired, and you have only just woken up. Don't give them a beacon to find us"

"You don't think I'm trying?" said Gershwin, cursing through her teeth as she went all out trying not to hurt Cody.

In her state of fright and tension, she managed a nervous chuckle and spoke, trying to divert her attention:

"Funny how we're in this mess, right? heh. I still remember doing paperwork at the law, thinking that that was the most painful experience of my life. You know, how I accidentally pinched my fingers at the gap of a closing door, and how I then crushed the door knob and pulled the door away - I should have figured it out then that I was something different.

I just didn't think I would be.... a danger to pretty much all of human life."

She grunted, trying to fight her urges by slamming her fists to the wooden panel floor. She'd expected to feel the cold soil and earth, but her fists were met with a bizarre familiarity. There rang a metallic bang, and she looked down to see chrome under a layer of dirt.

"There's something under the floor. I think it's a bunker!" She got up, excited at this revelation. It was not struggle for them to find this building - it will surely be nothing for an experienced search team. But it's highly unlikely they knew that this place was a covert supply storage for world-war spies.

"Let's search for a switch or something"

"You should try growing up blind but still able to see in your own way" Cody said with amusement, shaking his head slightly "my parents and friends just thought my hearing was that good. And how was I to know any different? For all I knew all blind people can see in one way or another"

He gave a shrug, watching Gershwin still.

As she pointed out that there was something there, Cody frowned slightly, tilting his head. Was that the slight echo? He lightly tapped the floor. Yes. Glancing over at Gerswhins excitement, for the moment the danger seemed passed and Cody relaxed slightly.

Movement from the couch told him Caits was at the very least, awak. He glanced over to her form, nothing but light hovering over a dense blackness, but it was enough to let Cody know she was okay. What she was doing, Cody had no idea.

What she was doing was searching for the switch. As soon as Gershwin had spoken about a bunker, something clicked. Caits was meticulous about data. She knew about many safe locations all around the world, that surviving agents from the debarcle a week ago would no longer have access too, but that she remembered. Even then, most agents didn't bother with them.

As Caits glanced around the shack, she decided this wasn't one of the list, but still. The switch wouldn't be anywhere obvious or what would be the point if having it? She shifted slightly, so that she was now leaning over the couch at what must be an awkward angle, protecting her ribs and arm, as she ran her uninjuried palm along the floor under the sofa. If the switch was there, it wouldn't be too far in. You wouldn't want to move the couch if you were in a hurry after all/

The soft "click" let her know that she was successful. As she swung her legs off the couch, Caits made to stand, but suddenly found herself dizzy.

Gershwin made her move to catch the swaying Agent. Though her intentions were benevolent, her own urges seemed to take a life on their own, and she fought with every bit of her soul to not rip Caits apart at the moment.

Suddenly, the floor seemed to come to life, and the carpet split in half to reveal a metallic staircase, leading into darkness below. The sliding wooden panels barely shook the house, but it did rattle some of the settled snow. Though more snow was coming, any bit of movement could be seen from the outside. It was fairly quiet, but they ought not to hesitate staying out in the open for too long.

"Cody... you lead the way..."

"Wait... in fact... take her..." she gestured to Caits. Her fingers were digging into the Agent's arms.

Andjela watched the commotion from far away. The search team operated with a ferocity to that of a wild animal chasing its small, elusive prey. It was best to stay out of their way, but she knew she herself could take the whole team on. Agents were good like that.

Cody gently took Caits from Gerswhin, shifting her slightly to adjust for any pain in her side, her arm, listening to small intake of breath, and the slight change in heart beat to ensure he wasn't causing her any unnecessary pain. Craddling her, Cody carefully began his way down, carefully placing his feet, since he couldn't lay his hand on the wall to guide him, he didn't want to fall, and harm Caits. As they continued on the way down, Cody wrapped light around the former agent, supporting her broken arm, her side, trying to prevent any jolt of movement. She still seemed so cold, and Cody couldn't help but worry as he continued down into the depths of the hidden room, soon reaching the bottom of the stairs, he glanced up to Gershwin.

The former agent wasn't doing well. She seemed to alternate between shivers and sweats, the pain of her injuries slowly overwhemling her, Cody's soft, careful movements sending jolts of pain through her, but she knew that she probably wouldn't be able to support her own weight right then. Light bloomed suddenly as Cody shifted her, trying to be gentle, and summoned a ball of light to hover above the room. Caits opened her eyes a slight, suddenly finding the light blinding, unbearable. The room appeared small, but it did seem to be stocked with some survival needs. She closed her eyes, grimacing.

"Gerswhin...is there any fresh water?"

Cody's voice seemed far away, despite being so close, and Caits started to grow worried. She knew she, at the moment, vulnerable. Her body was weak, and the trip outside could have done her more harm then she thought.

Gershwin looked down at Cody and the Agent. The room looked fairly small from her angle but it promised security and safety for the time being. She heard the request to look for water... but she would not budge. She was still in pain and her powers were still unbearably insistent. She turned to look at the wall which had the face of the door. It would be soooo easy.... to just walk out and wait for the search team... it would make her feel so gooooooooddddddddd...

She snapped out of it. She turned back and walked down the stairs. Her hands were pressed to the sides of the staircase and she barely managed to make herself in before the floor panels slid back shut, hiding them from sight and sound.

Cody's luminescent ambiance shone throughout the room, and Gershwin searched for a switch on the wall to turn on the lights. She flipped a switch and the hum of generators reverberated throughout the tiny room. There was a gentle rattle which faded into nothing as the light-blue lights filled the room and fresh air was pumped into the bunker. It was a modern hideout for sure, but she should also give credit to world war survivalists for thinking with extreme foresight.

She looked at the supply stock at the cupboards that seemed endless. She reached for a bottle of water and without crushing it completely she handed it to Caits. Gershwin stared at Cody intently before making a conscious decision to knock herself out. In a med-kit just nearby, she took out the morphine and several sedatives. She chucked half of the bottle and injected herself. Gershwin placed the med-kit to Caits' side and right then and there she passed out on the floor. She figured Cody was well enough to care for them both, but this was a selfless choice; it would have been like locking a deranged animal in a cage with its prey.

Cody gently took the water bottle. He wet his shirt, and cleaned Caits's face as best he could, being gently, the problem with his sight was that while he could see people by their glow, he was still as blind as if he were normal when it came to more specific features. So he carefully, gently, washed her face, feeling for any sign of fever.

Finding a blanket, he wrapped Caits up, and gave her a small amount of water, not much, not all at once. He looked over to Gershwin, and gave a soft sigh. What was he going to do? He carefully checked over Caits's injuries, sniffing any wound for sign of infection, or degradation. He checked her arm, and ribs, his touch light, he leaned back, sighing once more.

if only he could heal others.

He continued his caring, checking Gershwin over, his touch was if anything even lighter for Gershwin, as he checked her pulse. there wasn't much more he could do for her, so Cody rose, wondering how long it would take the agents-or their bosses at least-thought to check for such shelters.

All he could hope for was a few days. Just to give the frail Caits some time to get strength back. Just enough time for them to recuperate. He couldn't take the former agent out there, not until she was stronger. The short trip had nearly killed her, Cody was sure of that.

He gathered some food, and this was where Cody's touch, and sense of smell came into serious play, before returning to both women. Cody made a paste out of honey, and some nuts, crushing the nuts up fine, he mixed them in with the honey, adding in a little bit of water to thin it, he gently dribbing in a little bit into Gershwin's mouth, trusting the bodies natural reflex to swallow to do its job.

He opened up a parcel of dehydrated food, doing what had to be done, handing it to Caits, and making sure the former Agent ate. Once he'd taken care of them, he took care of himself.

The brevity for reprieve was necessary but fortunate. The hunt had continued, but with the level of secrecy and counter-intelligence at the time, even if they were to use maps with all the supposed secrets unveiled, the search team would still be using a dated layout of the frozen forest. Andjela, the loose cannon of an Agent, was disobeying orders of staying down. Just who was this woman?

Some truths are too difficult to reveal to others, to the world. Some truths are often not wholly confessed. Some… ought never be revealed.

It was the late afternoon and the Cambodian sky was expected to turn a tinge of orange as the sun prepared its descent down below the horizon. However, judging from the grey colouration of the clouds looming before them, churning condensation, alive to expand to the berth of the low building skyline, there was going to be heavy rain tonight. Many of the family restaurants in the neighbourhood pulled out their collapsible awnings, still anticipating the stray tourists to come visit the localities for “authentic experiences”. The many tuk-tuk drivers had the same idea, and pulled down the plastic sheets, shielding the carriage from the wind and rain, with the driver left with a raincoat to drive the motorcycle component of the vehicle.

Dara watched the road as drivers passed by. Thy was occupied with trying to better the shape and look of his terra-animated dog, made from the fossils of a perished canine and the surrounding soil and rocks. There was a strange history behind their powers and how they manifested over time. Dara went into deep thought as she pondered on the one possibility…

It was only ever just the four of them as a family; parents, two children, and no extended relatives. The children’s gifts had been simpler from the beginning - and not because it was more difficult to perform feats with their gifts, but because they had only had literally simpler abilities then. Dara had only been able to read other people’s minds, and Thy could only shift the earth and other earthen materials. Dara remembered the day she and her brother gained more power, so to speak. It was on the evening that their mother had passed. Ever since that night, the two had been able to do so much more. Their mother had always had an almost savant’s talent to know exactly what people thought and felt, and knew how to make them feel better if they were sad, or how to really pierce to their hearts if they deserved the punishment. She was able to make fantastic food, and plant life in their household always fostered and grew healthily unlike the typical condition that most fauna succumb to with the dry air and baked soil. When she’d died, said plantlife immediately expired and their house lost its vivacious colours of spirit and livelihood. Yet, she felt them. Dara could read and influence others’ emotions now, like she had with her dad. Thy could bring things to life and animate earthen beings like slaves to a master. The connection seemed so obvious but so unreal. Could Dara really ignore the possibility that…

Her thoughts were cut short as a dirtied-white van drove to their side of the curb and slowed to a half. Thy reacted to the commotion and Dara could feel the soil shift and compact under her. She felt security, fear, and defense from the brother. Control of the terra-animated dog had been released, and it crumbled to a mound of dust.

“សម្រាក | Relax” Dara echoed to Thy’s mind. He nodded back.

Skinny, shady men exited the van’s side-doors and circled the two children. The van was parked so that the neighbours could not see what was going on. The two were alone for now.

“ដរា, ទី? | Dara, Thy?”

“ចាស | Yes.”

The man with the mohawk, shades, spiked denim vest, and cheap, tacky leather trousers nodded. The two children had been staring down the man when another had smacked Dara at the back of her head and lifted her up. She was in pain, and could not react, to stop their capturers, and was thrown into van. Thy had been picked up by one of the bigger men. The soil had clung to him slightly but when he was smacked at the head as well, he cried in pain as he was thrown into the van as well. The two held each other as they cried in pain. They rubbed each other’s heads as their world turned to black with the slam of the van door.

It was late at night and the heavy rain panged away at the metal roof of the slow-moving van. The two were fine now but they were deathly afraid. Thy, and Dara, could feel the twin brother’s almost intuitive sensation of the metal and earthen grains with Thy’s skin contact to the metal frame of the vehicle. Try as he could, he could not shift such a large, refined material. Her little brother was scared, and Dara thought she could try to ease his emotions away but thought otherwise. They needed to be scared. They needed to be prepared for what was going to happen.

The van was slowing as it shifted gears and moved to a slight hill with uneven ground. Dara knew that this could be a chance for them to run away. Dara spoke to Thy psychically: “ត្រៀមខ្លួន | Get ready.” They released each other and readied an attack once they opened the door from which they had come. The right-hand side had been where they were thrown in. They faced it and got ready. Dara had to see the person to actually be able to read their mind, and thus location. This was a guess, and it had better count.

The door opened, and they were greeted with a big flash of light, blinding them. In that moment, their heads were covered with thick cotton sacks and lifted up. They struggled and dug their nails into their oppressors, but to no avail. They were brought a long way downwards until the kidnappers stopped and handed them off to another person. The children were placed down to wooden seats. As they rocked side to side, they knew they were on a boat. The loud, exposed engine to the back confirmed this, and soon the deafening roar of the engine block was overbearing and it was all Dara and Thy could hear for another fifteen minutes as they sped onwards.

It felt like an eternity as the dying engine turned to a stop. There was a slight ringing to everyone’s ears and the kidnappers had to resort to rowing with oars to manoeuvre. Perhaps the most terrifying was the eerie and contrarily to the engine block, the more deafening silence of the environment. They must be so far away from any sort of traffic or civilization. Anyone used to living with any sort of civility and technology would find the lack of the electronic hum terrifying. The children were picked up and brought upwards on wooden stairs before being tied down to wooden chairs. Dara and Thy could hear feet shuffling and slight whispering, but most of all an adult man sniffling his runny nose. Though she could not see him, his mental presence was all too strong and familiar to Dara and even Thy: it was their dad.

The sacks came off, and Dara, Thy, and their dad cried out to each other. To see their dad like this was soul-crushing, but before they could struggle to reach for each other, the man earlier with the mohawk stood between them and crossed his arms, ogling the children as if on display.

The man spoke with an oily, snake-like voice that was so raspy from perhaps chronic alcohol consumption:

“ស្រស់ស្អាតខ្លាំងណាស់, ជា។ អ្នកមានកុមារស្រស់ស្អាត។ | Very nice, Chea. You have beautiful children.”

“កុំប៉ះពួកគេ, អ្នកបិសាច។ | Don’t you touch them, you monster!”

A burly man from the side punched the father so hard it knocked some teeth loose. He was bleeding in the mouth and it looked like he was almost dazed out of it.

The mohawk man regarded the children:

“ អ្នកទិញនេះនឹងចូលចិត្តអ្នក, ក្មេងស្រីតូចម្នាក់។ ពួកគេចូលចិត្តវានៅពេលដែលក្មេងស្រីនេះគឺខឹង។ វាផ្តល់ឱ្យពួកគេមានអារម្មណ៍រីករាយនៅពេលដែលពួកគេបានបំបាក់ស្មារតីរបស់ពួកគេ។ | The buyers are going to like you, little girl. They like it when the girls are angry. It gives them pleasure when they break their spirit. “

“ទុកឱ្យពួកគេតែម្នាក់ឯង, អ្នកកូនឥតខាន់ស្លា! | Leave them alone, you bastard!”

Mohawk man turned slowly, looming over the man strapped defenselessly to the chair as if confused as to why he would be so stupidly annoying. He took off his denim vest, his barren, skinny, bony body. There was a tattoo on his left pectoral that spread up to his neck, and now that it was on full display, Dara and Thy reeled back in disgust when it showed a tiger biting into a peafowl. The twins hissed at the man as he punched their dad right at the eye. The guttural sound of flesh and bone breaking was gut-wrenching.

“អ្នកនិយាយថាអ្នកចង់បានលុយ ... ហើយខ្ញុំពិតជាមានដើម្បីជួយនៅទីនេះ … | You said you wanted money... and I'm here to help…”

“ខ្ញុំមិនមានន័យថានេះ! អ្វីដែលខ្ញុំត្រូវការគឺប្រាក់កម្ចីមួយ! | I didn't mean this! All I needed was a loan!”

“យើងមានក្រុមការងារអាជីវកម្មបានផលចំណេញ។ យើងជួសជុលម៉ូតូកង់បីរបស់អ្នក, អ្នកផ្តល់ឱ្យយើងនូវកូនរបស់អ្នក, អ្នកធ្វើការសម្រាប់ពួកយើងវាជាការឈ្នះឈ្នះ | We are a profitable business group. We repair your tuk-tuk, you give us your children, you work for us, it's a win-win. “

Mohawk man took out an aged photograph from his pocket and looked at the address written on the back. It was a picture of the twins when they were still young.

“ ដែលបានសរសេរអាសយដ្ឋានរបស់ពួកគេនៅលើត្រឡប់មកវិញនៃរូបថតរបស់ពួកគេ, ឬ? | Who writes their address on the back of their photos, anyway?”

Thy replied angrily: “យើងគ្រាន់តែបានផ្លាស់ប្តូរចូលទៅក្នុងផ្ទះរបស់យើង។ វាជាវិធីរបស់ម្តាយការអបអរសាទរនិងការចងចាំព្រឹត្តិការណ៍នេះ | We had just moved into our house. It was mom's way of congratulating and remembering the event”

“មិននិយាយទៅនេះទាបជីវិតជាកូន។ | Don’t talk to this low-life, son.”

Even in the face of torture and his life dangling so precariously out of his control, dad still wanted his children to be strong and have values. From the harsh punishments to the inspirational talks, he wanted the best out of his two most precious.

Mohawk man relentlessly pummeled him until he grew tired. Their dad’s face was starting to become unrecognizable. Dara tried to reach out to mohawk man to try and stop him, but the inflicted pain was shared to the both of them, and it was incredibly difficult to shake off the bond and try and be the hero. Thy could not reach the earthen ground owing to the tall chair, and was just as despondent.

“បញ្ឈប់វាឥឡូវនេះ! | Stop it, right now!” Dara screamed.

Mohawk man turned swiftly and slapped Dara, tipping her and the chair over to lean on Thy’s side.

“ឈប់និយាយ! ឈប់និយាយ! អ្នកកុមារគឺតែងតែខ្លាំងដូច្នេះ | Shut up! Shut up! You kids are always fucking so loud!”

“តើអ្នកមិនបានវាយនាង! | Don’t you hit her!” the dad yelled.

Mohawk man, being played around like a fool, swung as hard as he could at the dad and sent him flying across the room. In that moment, Dara and Thy suddenly felt an emptiness in their soul, a void that was previously held by the moral example, the authoritative figure, the last of the two that loved them unconditionally. Her father was no more.

Dara and Thy both cried out to their father. Get up, they yelled, wake up, dad, please!, they continued, but he would not move.

“អ្នកបើកបរដែលមានតម្លៃថោកដូច្នេះទេ។ កុមារទាំងនេះ, ទោះជាយ៉ាងណា … | Drivers are a dime a dozen anyway, but these kids, however…”

In that moment, the two felt nothing but sadness. They were two against the world now, and probably not for long, not with how they will be arranged and delivered in the line of child prostitution and slavery. But in that same moment, Dara and Thy felt an empowerment within themselves. Could it be, Dara thought. When their mother had passed, the children gained her motherly qualities and their gifts were enhanced horizontally in life and emotion. Their father was always the one to give them hope and was the pivotal hold and breadwinner of their family. Now, they both felt that they could do even so much more with their gifts, like a high to a sugar rush, like a win in a competition.

But who cares? With their parents gone, it seemed everyone was against them. Everyone is going to use them because they are vulnerable, and everyone is going to hate and ignore them because they are just kids. No.

The burly man began to untie them from their chairs. As soon as they were freed, they seized that moment. She did not even need to communicate it to Thy. Twins think alike.

Dara psionically attacked the burly man, and to the other gang members, it looked like he was having a frantic seizure. He screamed to the top of his lungs, and others tried to subdue him when he bled from his eyes, ears, and nose. He fell to the floor, unmoving. The others soon fell victim to the same fate as they screamed in a cacophonous choir of death before they all died. That left mohawk man standing in the room, absolutely clueless as to what in god’s name just happened.

Thy’s feet touched the ground and he felt bliss, the earth obeying to his every will. Mohawk man looked to the ground below him and could see the shifting earth take formation. All of a sudden, terra-shaped hands bursted out from the ground and grabbed onto any surface they could on the man. Mohawk man tried to break free, screaming for help. The terra-hands gripped hard and returned back to the earth, pulling and crushing the man into a mulch as he met the hard ground.

The ordeal was over, but their lives are forever destroyed. The twins fell to the floor and hugged and cried into each other. They both stared at their dad’s unmoving body, still hopeful that he would just get back up soon. As the red and blue lights of the police car shone through the window, and the officers tried to comfort them into their cruiser to return to the police station, they fell asleep, utterly exhausted.

They woke up to the clean sight of the police station in Siem Reap, just outside Pub Street where the clubs and restaurants stay open 24/7 serving the tourists. It made sense that police patrolled Pub Street - even through their thick walls, the blaring music could be heard and much control was needed to make sure order was maintained. The officer in charge of handling the issue with the twins had covered them in a duvet, and came to them when they had awakened. The young officer had bent down to see them eye-to-eye, and spoke:

“ អ្វីគ្រប់យ៉ាងនឹងត្រូវបានអី។ | Everything is going to be alright. “

Dara and Thy were clearing their vision when they noticed just at the base of the officer’s neck there was the head of a peafowl in discomfort. As the officer turned, they both barely caught a glimpse of the tattoo under his shirt. The same tattoo Mohawk Man had. No way, they thought in unison. It can’t be, the twins thought.

The officer had been handling and filing the report of the disturbance in the Floating Villages by the river bend just outside the rural parts of Siem Reap. The officers came to investigate men crying out in pain when they discovered, when arriving an hour later, two children crying, watching their dead father. It was a mysterious event because they were no obvious physical nor environmental signs showing how the men had died. Perhaps more investigation was needed. But that was for the others that actually gave a damn. This young officer was a new recruit in the underground gang that circulated young children throughout the Asian black market. His position in the police force was an obvious strength and advantage for his recruitment and could perform any actions and handle decisions needed to solve any “unwanted issues”. The report concerning the two children was simply going to disappear, and so will the children. He planned to bring them to his police cruiser under the guise of taking them out for something to eat, and deliver them to middle men just outside the city.

However, Dara had been reading his mind the entire time. If even the police force, a symbol of public trust and protection, could be corrupted, then there was simply no one to trust anymore. The last people the twins could trust were killed and no more. But Dara’s theory proved correct. They may no longer be physically present, but they must have had gifts of their own, and they must have passed on to the twins. Their father was what kept them strong ,because he himself was perhaps the strongest there ever was. If their mother gave life, their father enriched it. Their powers were so much more.

With a burst of extreme psionic power, the officer screamed and bled as his mind was blasted with all sensations, emotions, and memories of his past magnified a thousand fold. He practically clawed at his head to try and kill himself but he died a slow death. His fellow, probably innocent officers kept to help the downed man, but Dara had had enough. Soon, the screams was longer than the club music, and there was no one left alive in the police station. Filled with a passionate rage, the twins stood together, side by side, as they exited the police station. Passerbys rushed in to see what was going on, and Thy summoned hands and dragged them into the earth below, crushing them into a bloody mess.

The entrance faced Pub Street, a popular tourist spot frequented for bar-hopping, restaurants, souvenir-shopping, prostitution, and even hotels. It was a large hub for all things fun and international, spanning over ten blocks in its perimeter with over ten thousand people at any given time.

The twins started their pace down the middle of street. All around them within Dara’s line of sight, people started collapsing in pain, dying from a mental strain they could not fight. Thy, despite the muddied soil from the rain, could feel the foundation that these buildings stood on. He broke them, and around them buildings started to shake and crumble. People were running for their lives, bumping and pushing each other as they panicked and fled. Before they reached the second building, the first had already crumbled to debris and a sinkhole was left in its wake, dispersed down and outwards, reshaping the geology of the underground so drastically it caused earthquakes. This carried on until they reached the opposite end of the street. Then, Dara and Thy sunk into the earth, and tunnelled and transported themselves back to the rural neighbourhood, back home.

Viccar had fallen asleep on his desk when the notification beep came to his computer, followed by another, until the beep became a linear, jolting noise. Reports of Cambodia’s Siem Reap Pub Street disappearing. Pictures of the once incredibly populated tourist spot now a terraformed, barren land. The province’s police station officers and staff collapsing and dying, and… two twins.

“Dear God.”

He attached all the reports to an email and sent it to Ms. Jordan, along with the message.

“This just came in. Shit just hit the fan.”

Maria was just about ready to say screw it and leave someone else to deal with the mess before she realsied that they'd just come after her, kill her, and pin everything on her. No, she would get her goal. Sighing, she read the reports, furious. Why had no one known about these twins? Even with the destruction of their Development department, someone should have known about these twins. it infuriated Maria, and she shoved away from the desk, wanting to hit something, anything thing. But not having an outlet for that. she simply paced a moment, ignoring for the moment the ring of her phone, the ping of emails, before walking back over to the desk, and sitting back down.

She answered the phone, and immediately wished that she hadn't.

Thirty seconds into the rapid fire questions, and Maria snapped. She kept her voice controlled, although it was a little louder then normal.

"It was a goddamn earthquake, we have said we have the situation under control, do not call again, or I swear to god, or whatever sadistic bastard is out there, I will reach down this phone, and tear you're throat out"

She slamed the phone down, satisfied at that small defiance, before she disconnected the phone, and spent an agonising five minutes setting up an auto-reply message to all who were messaging her.

To all wishing to contact Maria Jordon, please do not bother her. She has another to deal with without adding reportors to the mix
Auto-response message

She spent another five minutes figuring out how to flag messages from Viccar, from her bosses, and anyone else she needed to respond to, and culled the rest. In peace for a moment, Maria pressed her fingers to her eyes, before starting to do what she had to do. She began to search what had happened, and she dispatched a few agents to hunt down the twins, and bring them in before they could cause any more damage, she instructed them to be extra careful. They knew nothing about this kids.

Asia is a very unique continent, with a variety of lifestyles, peoples, cultures, and languages. For any average person to master one of the country's way of life, it would take upwards of a year just to familiarize oneself with it; to master more than one, each subsequent one more different from the other, it would take a lifetime. That is why Agents of the Asian orientation, superb and excellent individuals, are valuable and well taken care for - and even then, they are rare to come by.

Viccar had arranged for them extra resources: equipment, contacts, vehicles, rights. They were going to have a hard time with tackling the Cambodian issue. These four individuals, bright as they were, had very little knowledge on Cambodia and the twins. It was never a point of attraction, but in that few hours that they flew over to the Southeast Asian nation, they'd become accustomed to everything Cambodia.

The twins, however, were a different thing altogether. Resources had no records at all of these two Anomalies, which must mean the manifestation of their powers were only recent. It's assumed that the twins together have incredible powers of telekinesis and a part of telepathy in a magnitude so vast, and at such a precocious age compared to their records of other Anomalies.

The four agents have just landed. They were on their way to the twins' house.

Footage from the event was strictly contained and only the police and military authorities of the Cambodian government have access to it - of course, the UN and the Agents being the rare exceptions. The government is adamant on taking the cover that this was only an earthquake, and not some form of terrorist attack, and especially not one of the supernatural kind so vile and distasteful to their eyes, a spiritual, natural upbringing of fairness, balance, righteousness, and nothing magical and evil of the sort.

The twins, identified as Dara and Thy Keo, whose father was recently murdered in the hands of one of many underground societies in the Asian region, lived in rural Siem Reap not fifteen minutes away from what once was Pub Street. It was strange to see them return back to their home, expecting them to do the opposite. They were kids, after all, who had lost all they had. But, they were still part of perhaps the worst disaster to happen to Cambodia since the Civil War. They were needed for questioning.

They heard the sirens first, and soon enough they were surrounded. Barricades were formed all around the building, and a helicopter was hovering in place. A man with a loudspeaker barked orders to stand down and surrender themselves. The twins, still overcome with grief and anger, held hands and stood motionless, wondering whether to follow their orders or not.

"ពួកគេនឹងសម្លាប់យើង | They're going to kill us."

"ប៉ុន្តែអ្វីដែលប្រសិនបើពួកគេមិនបាន? | But what if they're not?"

"តើអ្វីទៅជាម្តាយនិងឪពុកនឹងធ្វើយ៉ាងណា? | What would mom and dad do?"

"ខ្ញុំមិនដឹងថា | ... I don't know."

Their grip on each other's hand was so tight, clung to one another. Thy opened the door and the two stood in front of a menacing line of angry men and women, firearms pointed right at them, a terrifying and confusing sight, what with the twins only being 11 years old, barely five feet tall. They took in the angry and horrified expressions on the officers' faces, many of them whose relatives and loved ones victims of the Pub Street incident. Many wanted revenge. Many wanted to pull the trigger. Dara read their thoughts, and was scared for her life.

The four agents had arrived too late, and the police were already cornering the twins to their house. They wanted to act now, perhaps cause enough of a diversion to take them discreetly, or perhaps to take them out with force to apprehend the twins themselves.

However, what they saw they could not believe. It might as well have come from a fantasy horror movie.

From the ground, hands made from earth sprouted and the officers started panicking, trying to run only to be stopped by hands gripped around them hard. Soon, figures crawled out from the earth, human-like in shape, but so unnatural in their lack of intricate detail. They reached for whatever surface they could on the police vehicles. Altogether, hands and figures, they started to pull down. Officers fired stray shots but before they knew it, they were being crushed as they were dragged down to the earth. Soon, everyone besides the twins were gone, muddled into the earth, staining it red. The vehicles were flattened so forcefully, it's incredible to take in how much strength these terra-humans have. The helicopter was the last of the arrest team when it took was taken down. The cockpit's window was sprayed red from the blood of the pilot's brain imploding on itself, and the helicopter crashed right on the twins. A thick wall of earth had come up, blocking the explosion completely, leaving the two unscathed.

"C-team to headquarters, sending in footage now of most recent attack, please advise."

Just what kind of advice did they think they were going to receive?

In other news, flights into and out of Cambodia have been halted. Media coverage is spreading like wildfire as reporters vie for more information to the incident. Another event to occur just after the dragon taking to the air. What is going on in this planet? All that's known for sure, there is widespread panic, and people are trying to get out of the country. No one, absolutely no one, is allowed to leave.

The world economy is crashing. Public trust is falling. Terror is at an all-time high.

Viccar, with a seemingly innocuous message to Ms. Jordan, wondered whether he should send it over or not.

"Press Conference in one hour. The higher-ups demand it. The public is concerned the earthquake isn't an earthquake, but rather an attack by the dragon-monster again."

Maria was absolutely furious. She had absolutely no idea just what she could say in a press conference, and she clearly couldn't avoid it. She didn't have the time for a press conference, and she sure as hell wasn't going to take questions. With a heavy sigh, Maria set down at her desk, and tried to figure out just what she could say.

It wasn't the dragon monster. Sometimes an earthquake was just an earthquake. Something like that. Maybe something about how teams were even now closing in on those responsible for the dragon-monsters appearance. Yes. Ease the public...she wrote up what she needed to, thinking through each word carefully before she set pen to paper, making sure there was no loose ends, tying everything she could together to make sure that she would answer the publics concerns as well as ensure there was no panic over what was, for all intence and purposes, a natural disaster.

She gathered what information she needed, infuriated that even now, the subjects had slipped away, just like the plague of her existance, Subjects thirty and twenty nine, with the rogue agent Caits, constantly seemed to do. She sent a message to the team, tellig them to in no way approach the subjects until they could be sure no more damage would be done, to take them as harmlessly as possible, but to take them only when it was safe to do so.

Finally, she rose, her notes in hand, although she wouldn't need them.

The search team assigned to find the fugitives in southern Russia. They received fairly tame orders but they were ridiculous ones as well. They had in essence disappeared almost completely and it was getting to the point that the search team had to give up and look elsewhere, beyond the borders in the off-chance that they did escape through the snowstorm.

Unbeknownst to them, they had passed the logger house where the three were located. Andjela would not pass this location off so easily however. Any other location and she would have ignored it like the search team did. But this place... it had something to it that... felt... odd. She decided to take a closer look, light in her step, using the trees to her advantage to scout the grounds. Now with the storm having died down, she had so much room to work with.

The press conference was filled with familiar faces, reporters who were getting the time of their lives getting to write breaking headlines, scoring big on the catastrophes but at the same time concerned that there even occurred. In a time where there was so much security in the world, why is all this - any of this - happening?

A reporter, dark-skinned in complexion with prominent Asian features and a strong accent, spoke through the clutter of raised hands, readied pens, and pointed cameras:

"Let's cut to the chase. We have received reports of the recent event in Cambodia being an unprecedented, incredibly powerful earthquake. However, intel has it that the military is being mobilized to counter terrorist figures in Siem Reap, the scene of the catastrophe. This intel is reassured truth and straight from the source. If that's the case, what really happened in Pub Street? Was it the dragon creature again?"
