Be a girl if you want or double up! To me having an even number isn't the biggest deal. And I'll gladly make a second male character. Probably a male trainer as well so there is that.
Also, I like the second or first the best I think. @blue demon
A dragon egg will only hatch when a rider they deem fit has touched them. This happens more often now that academies are set up for riders to be trained and get to see more eggs then they were ever allowed in the past. A person is only allowed to attend the academy after they've turned 18, but not everyone finds their dragon right away. In fact it isn't uncommon for a person to have to wait years before they touch the right egg.
Once an egg begins to crack after a rider has touched it that means that they've been chosen. From there the rider must let the dragon grow and develop their skills before they can begin training for battle.
Until a rider finds the correct egg though, they must go through training on what it means to be a rider. There is lots of training that must be done on the magic so that each rider has some experience before they find their egg. Magic doesn't begin to fully develop until the time that a rider and dragon are brought together. There are different strengths in magic, a person may be more proficient in earth, fire, water, air, or dark magic. This is the type of magic they usually try to get very good at while the others are more of a basic knowledge.
This is why they must continue studying while they await the next months eggs to see if their dragon may be in that batch, as eggs are only traded between academies once a month. It's a dangerous process for the riders transporting the eggs, because there are still riders out there who believe each rider needs to find their egg on their own. They think riders are just being handed their dragons now and they aren't the best riders they could be.
Rules -I don't want one-liners, this is free, but I'm wanting a high free. If you can't write a ton that's fine, but give the other person something to go on. -No godmodding, this shouldn't even need to be stated. -Please let me know if you're gonna be busy so we can slow down the rp so you aren't lost. -Listen to your gms, again-shouldn't need to be said
I'm just wanting to explain a bit more of what would be typically to happen to your character to know which type of magic they're better at.
Earth- Is your character able to make vines grow from the ground, flowers grow, heal dying plants, or cause trouble with rocks.
Water- Are they able to refill a glass with one word (or possibly the tables), create water in their hand, cause waves in a lake, or even manipulate the rain.
Fire- Typically starts with an accidental fire (thank goodness earth magic can heal the burned grass), light things on fire, create fire balls, control a fire that has been started or start their own.
Air- Use the wind to their own needs, typically can create wind even if there shouldn't be, they're useful to their dragons if they're tired so they can help keep them up, or go against water and fire attacks.
Dark- This is usually first seen by a character killing a plant that they've touched. It can causes destruction and death when not trained, can cause storms, not very useful against fire, water or air, but useful against earth.
Looks: (Put lower if not a photo) Name: Age: When they came to the academy: Type of egg they've gotten: (colorings/markings) Magic Affinity: Weapon of choice: (sword, bow and arrows, etc.) Personality: Likes: Dislikes: History: (Why they came to the academy as well)
Name: Sophia Carrow Age: 19 When they came to the academy: 18 Type of egg they've gotten: A black egg with blue swirls Magic Affinity: Dark Weapon of choice: Bow and arrow Personality: Sophia ended up with an egg color that usually goes with dark magic, which seems rather unbelievable. She's a timid girl who wouldn't be the type to go out killing things if she didn't feel threatened. She's always been shy in large groups, but tries to make up for it by being a bit louder when she's around fewer people. She has a terrible sense of humor, not that it ever stops her and can come off a little rude because of that. Timid may be a word used to explain her, but she doesn't have much of a filter between her brain and mouth when she's actually talking. Likes: Reading, winter, flowers (how unfortunate she can't grow them), the way that eggs look when they're just about to hatch and there are little cracks running through them. Dislikes: Heat, hand to hand combat (Not that she won't kick your ass from far away), cats, and the way people look out others with black dragons. History: Sophia doesn't have some sob story about how she wanted to get away from her family. Her father was a dragon rider until he got seriously injured and his dragon actually ended up dying. She was a beautiful dragon and Sophia loved going out to see her and when her dad would take her on rides. It was only natural that at eighteen she would enroll in the academy and try to find an egg of her own. Her mother wasn't sure it was the best after her father almost died, but she promised not to get hurt and that if she hadn't found an egg by the age of 21 she would go home.
If I can be of any assistance I've read the inheritence cycle and seen HTTYD. Let me know if I can help at all.
Thank you a bunch! It was my understanding that they could do some magic once they found their dragons, right? Also, in the books was it common for them to carry any weapons while they were flying? You probably didn't expect me to ask you tons of questions right after you said you could help, but...
@AbysmalDemon Great and yes! I would really love a co-gm in this mostly because I always need someone to bounce ideas off of and to make sure I'm not going crazy with things. I kinda want to go with some of the major Eragon themes (I think that's where they've come from) including how the dragons choose riders and that characters have some limited magic. As long as everyone is in to that. I'm working on an OOC right now actually.
