History:
Born into the upper class, Naomi’s childhood could be described as extravagant for the first years of her life. Her mother was a member of the court one of the region’s lords, and because of her many years working for them was paid well and treated highly by the other members. Her marriage and child bearing came to a surprise for some as for over two hundred years she had been mostly adamant of staying single and alone. However, a samurai was finally able to win her heart. Because of her mother’s position Naomi grew up to be elegant and intelligent. Her mother valued knowledge and was adamant in teaching Naomi about the world as well as hoping one day she may be able to become the court advisor. Naomi’s greatest fondness came from something she got from her father, a sense of adventure. For her, the sky was the limit and the stars were precious gems she wanted to understand further. Astronomy, while not being important to the court, was the kind of subject she would stay up late trying to read. All looked well and she hardly could have a complaint before she was fourteen.

That year marked the year of the revolt within that area of the land, and with it the death of her mother. While her father had been able to get his daughter out, Naomi’s mother had been separated from them. Naomi broke away to try and find her before her full escape, but in the end was only able to watch as her mother was ran through by her assailants. On the run from the region she and her father made way to whatever land could be found nearby. To hide from possible future attacks, as well as protect Naomi now that she was out in the open where being a kitsune can attract unwanted attention, her father decided that he would become a farmer. He took his work seriously, and while he became a bit colder he still tried to keep Naomi uplifted as she took her mother’s death hard. Her outgoing self became bottled up and she preferred to be alone. She didn’t make very many friends in the village she would be a part of and if you had asked many villagers wouldn’t be able to give you much more than a brief description of what she looks like.

Years went by like this before the coming of an illness. Her father ended up catching it at the age of fifty seven. It took his life, but his last words were simply that he wanted Naomi to smile again. Though she was about twenty five years old at that point, she still looked relatively young and understood that her heritage would keep her that way. She couldn’t run the farm by herself either, as her father had done most of the hard work and other management tasks such as purchasing seeds. He didn’t want to burden Naomi with more work than he had to after all. Her skills lied from memory more so than her physical body, and she had to remain homeless for a while after deciding she couldn’t stay in the same home she watched her father grow old and die in.

Fortunately for her, the chance came with the passing of another noble family in her life. Remembering what her mother had tried to teach her, she was able to find a way to become a servant for them through persuasion and a small act. Luckily, she didn’t need to keep the act for too long to be sure she would be keeping the job. It was strange to have been born as the kind of people she served, but because of her formal education given to her by her mother she was able to do the tasks most servants couldn’t and a few years made her their top servant. The fact she didn’t age the same though through more years led them to be able to know her true origin and heritage. They were not the kind to be angry though, in fact they were accepting and Naomi was able to work for them through two entire generations. Helping one boy become the lord and then his heir become one as well.

Eventually however, that too came to an end with a branch family sending the family in bankruptcy and losing their status as nobles. They had wanted the power for themselves after all, but as a last act of kindness for Naomi a noble head was able to get her sent to another family, one far less enjoyable than the last however. This one, while kind on the outside, was more of the wicked type of family. Naomi was treated more as a slave than a person at that point; making her experience the darker side some people had to offer. Sometimes being beat, sometimes being harassed, and put down she at first felt defeated again in her life before a determination struck her. She learned what she could about the family in the brief moments she had, found out secrets before using them to her advantage. This time, she was the one to destroy a family name. From it, she was able to move further in the ranks of the nation’s leadership as more than just a servant, but rather an advisor and scholar. Her mind gave her power as her mother had been kind enough to teach her, but now she got to put it to use. For the last seventy years she found her way up the ladder into the court through her efforts before becoming a personal servant to the daimyo. With his death she had her loyalty tested, but seeing the son alone as well as the people around him aim to protect his she felt determined to keep her loyalty. She has lived long enough to see that even if it was more risky than finding a place to rise up again over her lifespan, she wouldn’t be able to look back on leaving without feeling guilty. Because of all of this, she is now much like an retainer for the son while still helping out as a servant due to the amount of servants who left or were killed. The few that support him now sometimes must take on multiple positions. Her age has enabled her to have many skills and information available to her as well even though she is a non-combatant.

Alrighty, tomorrow after work I hope to have an idea at least decided then. Finding samurai women art is hard for a good one. So it seems like I might be deciding between male samurai, female retainer, or think about taking up that Kitsune option though I would need a greater backstory and idea as for that as you mentioned. Might PM you about that, or I'll be lazy and not do it.
