PLUTO & KUIPER BELT

Smell that? Well, you can’t. Space has no smell! While space has no smell to speak of - there is something else more valuable than that: RESOURCES. Do you know what place has resources? The Sol System! That’s right! In our case, Pluto and the Kuiper Belt. So - what does Pluto have? Good question, it has frozen nitrogen, methane, water, and carbon monoxide ices. Now, carbon monoxide has no real value, but nitrogen, methane, and water are really-really valuable. Who would want all of this stuff in the first place? Another good question - it is the Ustonian Mega-Corporations. More specifically, Petrochemical Incorporated, Standard Agricultural, and Union Chemical Industries. Those Mega-Corporations, known as First-Rate Corporations, are the most powerful and largest corporations within Uston. It is also important to note that these corporations are Agricultural and Chemical corporations (I do not think I need to really explain what that is, hopefully).

Given the very nature of cutthroat competition between First-Rate Mega-Corporations, things are bound to get heated. Claims on Pluto made by Petrochem, StaAg, and U.C.I, have already resulted in major-shadowy actions undertaken by all of these corpo(s). Hell, even the geographical surveying teams were escorted by subsidiary security firms. Wild stuff. Peace was eventually made (after weeks of shady deeds done) between the corpo(s) to avoid another bloody corporate war. Petrochem would get the northern regions and parts of the methane deposits. StaAg got most of the nitrogen deposits and southern regions while Union Chemical Industries has both sizable methane and nitrogen regions elsewhere on the planet. Quite a nice conclusion to it, no?

Now that the issue of Plutonian claims is settled, Petrochem, StaAg, and U.C.I have started their first steps in strip-mining the whole planet for its resources. Greed is the name of the game here and you know that capitalism does not have much forgiveness for those who do not exploit the living hell out of everything. Geographical surveying teams are sent, mining rigs are set up, and cargo ships are sent in to get the good stuff outback to factories. Never-ending economic growth is the goal and everyone fully knows that nothing will stop these fucks from doing what they know best.

Elsewhere, the Kuiper Belt equally has its fun! Ustonian Electric, General Business Machines, Real Metal Industries, and Ustonian Defense Systems, are players of the game here. The demands of heavy industry are ever-growing and new defense contracts by the Federal government are pushing every-single major manufacturing First-Rate Megacorporations to literally rush in their mining fleets to get their hands on new sources of minerals. It’s like crack to them! They can’t get enough and will never get enough. KUIPER asteroids every which way, where, and how, are being scooped up by capital-sized industrial ships. So far, no one is stopping them! The only obstacle is the other damn mega-corporations. This surge of heavy mining within the Kuiper Belt is also very noticeable, but who the hell is gonna stop them?

Remember the cautious mindset done in the planning phase done by the megacorporations? Well, maybe not. To refresh your thinking, the plan was to simply not go in and literally start to exploit the outer-Solar System to its limits. Well...no plan survives first contact. Now, the only places being mined to shit are Pluto and the Kuiper Belt, but these greedy shits also plan to mine Neptune for its gases (especially by Petrochem and U.C.I). Geographical research is already being done to get the right gas layers, conditions, and composition info. And like before, Petrochem, U.C.I, and StaAg, are fighting over the claims of Neptune. Another round of underground shadow warfare and negotiation is underway as always. Likewise, plans for the inner-asteroid belt are being drawn up and being argued by the different ManuCorps. Lovely stuff.

This is Jenny speaking: how may I help you?

Hi Jenny, this is Albert. I would like to register a federal business license for General Business Machines.

Ok, sir - have you sent over an application?

I have.

Ok - give me a moment to find it….Found it. General Business Machines - uhm, have you registered your Employer Identification Number yet?

It should be in the paperwork.

I believe there was an error of some sort. Are you give me your number then?

Of course, its five-eight-six-seven-two-three-zero-four-six-seven-nine-five.

Ok - let me type that in for you real quick....I would also like to check your federal mailing address; is it - 4040 Kelley Road, the city is Biloxi, postal code of 39531, and the phone number is 228-345-0329. Is that right, sir?

It is.

Good. I also have to ask - is your financial account, the right side one, linked to your merchant or bank account?

It should be a merchant. The left side is our bank.

Thank you, sir. We'll get this processed in five to ten business days. Good luck in doing business in Columbia. If you have any other questions then please do call back or you can email us. Have a great day.
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to our annual meeting as per usual. Let's get straight to business. As you know, the entire Sol System gate-way coordinates have just been revealed - allowing access to the birthplace of humanity. We also have information on the various other surviving colonies-turned-nation-states.

What do we plan to do with the Sol System? As we currently know, it's wholly empty without much infrastructure nor flag attached to anybody of interest to us. I say we sweep in and start immediate resource extraction. We can’t have Ustonian Electric or Petrochem beat us to the punch.

I am aware of the potential. Sadly, we can’t simply just go into the Sol System and claim everything that we mine as our mine...not yet anyhow. If we did just that then that would upset some of our neighbors. For now, we will have to settle for smaller-scale operations and ram up slowly as our first start.

What about our neighbors? We could surely expand into new markets. PR managed to ID six nations to get into. I can imagine Petrochem, StaAg, and BioChem are already planning their agricultural ventures soon. What’s worse, G.B.M is way ahead of us in their new market ventures. The Earth Cultural Union, United Republic of Columbia, The Xandalian Republic, and even the fucking Khanate are on their list.

We’ll deal with them soon, especially G.B.M and StaAg in due time. If worse comes to worst then we can always cause an “accident” in their central F.T.L comms.

I see. What about the Sol System? Are we gonna send in a small mining fleet?

That’s the plan. We can’t have G.B.M, U.E, or G.I be ahead of the curve. These fucks will not get the better of us. We’ll repay their dues as they did to us in the last war. With that said, get to work on contacting the aforementioned nations. These are new markets, people. New markets equal more credits and more power to us. We can’t have G.B.M beat us again.

“Would you like some food, dear?” asks Akilah as she guides Salim into the grandhall. Salim nods, stumbling into the fancy interior. Wanderlust fills the eyes of the young boy, for he has not seen anything this awe-inspiring before in his life (aside from his short-time on the airship). The music was also a nice touch as well, but Salim has one task in mind - food. The boy did not eat much on his way towards the school and so was dying to see what food was being served. Arriving at the food-area, Akilah grabs a plate and a few utensils. While plenty of fancy foodstuffs was being offered, Salim had no care for them. All he wanted was what he knew - Biryani, Tabbouleh, Kofta, etc. He also had gotten accustomed to other foods as well like jam on bread, Papoutsakia, Tomatokeftedes, Shkembe, and more. The standard method of operation was simple: Salim points out what he likes and Akilah will place it onto the plate, simple as is. After gathering foodstuffs, both Akilah and Salim walk themselves to the tables, happening to sit near Jeanne.

Now seated, Salim starts to chow down fried green tomatoes, Biryani, and anything else that he could use his hands on. Of course, there were a few foods, like soup, that would be physically near-impossible for him to eat. As Akilah knows, Salim is quite a special person when it comes to fine-motor dexterity. And so, when it came time that the boy wished to eat his Avgolemono, Akilah grabbed a spoon and fed Salim. Akilah sat close to Salim, spooning into the soup and then moving the spoon to the mouth of Salim. Likewise, Akilah also had to ensure that Salim does not physically harm himself while eating food on his own or being fed. Involuntary body movements, resulting from Salim’s rare neurological disorder, were constant and that often placed great stress on the poor boy’s body. It did not help either that this was a heavily crowded place and Salim was not someone to enjoy such a place - enhancing the risk of such movements.

“Careful now, dear. You don’t want to harm yourself,” Akilah notes as she carefully watches Salim grab some Tomatokeftedes on the table. Salim’s left whole arm twitches and moves nervously. When the boy makes contact with one fritter, his fingers struggle to properly handle and grip one fritter. Akilah clasps the boy’s left arm, stabilizing the involuntary movement.

“Don’t rush yourself, dear,” Akilah says softly as she also grabs the back of Salim as well to make sure Salim’s body does not give away to heavy convulsive movement. Now that Salim is stabilized with the aid of his caretaker, the boy focuses on grasping the fritter. He does so after a few tries and manages to successfully move the food into his mouth.

“Would you like to go somewhere less crowded?” Akilah asks Salim, understanding the boy’s great dislike for such a crowded place. Salim shakes his head, denying the request as he continues to eat with struggle.
