For anyone interested, I'm open to starting other first contact scenes as well if people would like to get together and think of a scenario that'd work.

For @Keyguyperson or @Palamon, one thing could be the Terran Remnants heading in your directions in search of other human colonies that may still be kicking around.

Honestly, that idea could really work for anyone, since it gives the Terran Remnants an excuse to jump to various star systems in search of other signs of humanity, and maybe they just stumble across someone else.
@Keyguyperson

You do still need to do your territory claim.
@MissingAxis

The process of dialogue is long and slow and grueling. Every single word must be taught and learned, and with barely any common ground to be found in even the body language of either parties, the only real true way of learning was the hard way of long hours of trial and error. It was really only through the help of the computers that both parties had brought, as well as the severity of the situation at hand, that Admiral Erling hadn't long since given up and tried to pass this task to another. By the end of their hours long session, of which annoyingly little progress had been made, they'd at least made solid headway into understanding enough basic concepts in order to discuss simple topics, which the alien envoy was trying to do now.

Erling took a moment to piece together the alien's fragmented speech, before nodding slowly in understanding. Its requests were fair enough, he supposed, and after a moment he returned a reply through the use of his computer. "We will not leave here," came the response. "We send vessel for home. Go to Lord."

And with that, things seemed to come to an end. The alien boarders gathered their belongings and returned to their shuttle outside, while the soldiers within the bay stood down, perhaps a little awkwardly as they began to move slowly from their cover, but with a collective sigh of relief. Admiral Erling returned to his position in the bridge, and after several minutes, a single ship peeled off from the fleet, heading back through the rip lane to bring word back home. Contact had been made, peacefully at that.
@Keyguyperson

No serious objections from me on your nation. They'll certainly cause quite a stir with my own, however. Most probably won't be too fond of the idea of humans being subjugated, especially with their capital works being called Terra Nova, and one of yours being Nova Terra. Bit worrying to them.

@Durandal

If I'm to be completely 100% honest... the whole space ponies thing brings up a bit of a red flag, but otherwise they're a pretty well written sheet with nothing wrong with it. So you've got an okay from me.
I assumed that there would be a high ratio of essentially new space-faring races rather than like almost everyone being old? I mean, we had a point of trying to start this RP off at a lower tech-level, so it was surprising to me to see a bunch of old races playing with sticks and stones essentially.
@Icepick

Uh... Like I said... There isn't an issue? It's just a trend I saw. Galaxy's populated by essentially a bunch of old fogies and that's all I'm pointing out and saying that it's a little weird from my perspective. I never made any issue with you or your roleplaying skills. It's fine.
@Icepick

It's nothing against your sheet in particular, just a trend I'm starting to see. Each one that came in just started to go older and older. Not a big deal, honestly, just a minor gripe from me.
@Lauder

Just saying, everyone's going for some sort of pretty ancient history behind them. Honestly, I kinda like the tone of it since it does give the galaxy bit of a more 'lived in' feel, but I do feel like there's a point where it gets a little ridiculous.
I'm starting to feel like everyone's just trying to outdo each other with how ancient their predecessors are. We have the Ouroboros who've nuked each other into the middle ages over and over in 'cycles of destruction', humanity who's apparently at least thousands of years old (which I did not coordinate with Palamon at all, it was just a detail I'd always planned to use so that other people could play humans if they wanted to), a race genetically modified by their god predecessors in a process that's at least gone over three times, and a bunch of sentient AI with a god-AI that was made by scientists that nuked themselves to death apparently billions of years ago.

Also Icepick, the main reason for ClocktowerEchos asking about the Vol, is likely to try and get some story thread started with that. It's probably better to talk a bit about it between the two of you and see if you can come up with something interesting to work with it rather than mostly write it off as they'd only have had minimum contact or none at all. If in the end you two decide to not have had any contact between the two, then that's fine, but I feel like you ought to at least give it a shot before saying they'd absolutely not done anything with each other.
@Keyguyperson

If you want to use the nation sheets already posted, then MissingAxis' Ouroboros would on the lower end of techs, while IcePick's is most definitely higher tier. We're not starting as sprawling space empires, so we're not looking at world ending Deathstar lasers or anything. Honestly? I'd recommend maybe pulling inspiration from genres like cyberpunk or maybe looking at technologies that we are estimated to have in the near future and taking those maybe a step up.

@ClocktowerEchos
I feel it's a little unfair to IcePick to deny their sheet that would likely be otherwise accepted (at least that's how it seems to me at the moment), just because of a few new plot ideas that hit you all of a sudden. I do admit, sentient AI is for sure the kind of tech that's pushing the boundaries of the lower level starts we're having, but their sheet seems otherwise largely reasonable aside from the things I've mentioned earlier in the thread, both of which have been addressed/fixed.
