Hello, so everyone knows, I am very new to this site, but I hope to be active and have fun interactions with you guys. Also if this post in anyway is in the wrong section or whatever just lmk and ill move it wherever it needs to go.
That said I have an idea for a roleplay setting and I would like to share and see if anyone would like to join me. As the title of this thread implies this would be a space battle RP and to clarify this would be on a Ship-to-Ship basis. For example I am in a human ship and say x(RP user)x is in another ship from another faction. Say we end up meeting at some point it would be up to us whether to engage in a battle, communicate, interact, ect... or not based off the factions.
Ok as for the factions there are 3 currently in my head currently. If anyone would like to suggest additional ones that would be awesome and as long as they aren't super overpowered or break the rules of this RP I wouldn't mind adding them in, anyways here goes.

Well we ALL are from EARTH right? Currently I haven't gotten this far yet as i want to see if this pics up any steam before i get all crazy on the typewriter here so please do standby on the lore side of things. Currently the Terran faction is at WAR with the Sandurian faction and has been for about a decade. The Terrans are losing but have managed to hold their own and have lost little ground as of yet
Technology: Terrans or humans are relatively new to space travel compared to their neighbors in the Milkyway, only about 250 years or so. This really shows in the technology department as most Terran weapons are electromagnetic rail guns and nuclear torpedo systems while other factions have more advanced weaponry. That being said terrans make up for lack of quality by using numbers or size of weapons to their advantage. As for point defense a typical Terran vessel would general be armed with a PDC system spanning 3 layers, missiles, flak cannons, and rapid fire machine guns similar to the c-wiz guns used on modern day sea going naval vessels except with a much faster rate of fire. Terran ships are indeed FTL (faster than light) capable though they are the slowest faction. As for durability, Terran vessels are quite tough and have heavy armor which includes VBRP (Variable Based Reactive Plating) which is basically a fancy way of saying that Terran armor can distribute impacts along the hull to reduce damage from incoming fire. That said, VBRP aren't shields and wont negate damage merely reduce it, and the further damaged a vessel is, the less effective it becomes. generally speaking VBRP will reduce all incoming damage by 75% at the start of a battle but it can all be stripped away at the end providing no support at a battles end, something to keep in mind.

Again, I'm not going much in depth here yet that said I will elaborate a little bit. Sadurians are an older race than humanity, they also have much longer lifespans about 2-3 times longer than a human. This results in technological development to be slower than Terrans, however Sandurians have been in space for roughly 1200 years, and have a large head start on humanity. In terms of personality and behavioral patterns they aren't much different from Terrans, which resulted discourse between the two races. That said they aren't evil conquerors, and can be reasoned with but generally speaking if a human vessel and a Sandurian vessel where to meet a battle is almost garunteed.
Technology: Sandurians are the second oldest race in the Milkyway and as such have had plenty of time to develop more advanced technology than what the humans have come up with. As far as weaponry is concerned the Sandurians are still a good century ahead. The typical Sandurian warship would be equipped with plasma cannons for medium to short range engagements. as for torpedoes, Sandurians use a mix of plasma torpedoes and nuclear torpedoes, both are effective, however plasma torpedoes has a better effect on armor penetration and reducing VBRP rating quicker while nuclear torpedoes will do more damage to unarmored targets. Larger Sandurian vessels will also be equipped with "plasma projectors" large spot-light shaped weapons that project incredibly powerful beams of light against short range targets, they also can be turreted so they are rather flexible. An additional weapon that is used are photon torpedoes, a torpedo of intense energy moving at near light speed, they cannot be shot down by PDCs nor be scrambled. Photon weapons however do lack pentation in certain conditions and are therefor limited to be equipped only on stealth vessels. For point defense Sandurians use a variety of weapons though not as effective as the Terrans. For long to medium range, small caliber plasma cannons will fire to rid small targets. Close range defense is primarily a deflector system that will attempt to scramble incoming torpedoes, however its effectiveness is limited to about 50%. Sandurian warships are also equipped with shielding which can negate all incoming damage until they are knocked offline, where then a player wont be able to use them for the next 2 replies. Sandurian ships are FTL capable and are somewhat faster than Terran vessels.

Kouralin:

Kouralins are by far the oldest race, hands down. they have been in space for roughly 4000 years. That said they occupy the smallest area of space in the galaxy and are very reserved, choosing to remain Neutral in the Terran-Sandurian war despite the Sandurians calling upon the Kouralins to attack the Humans. Their lack of military's numbers is another example of their reluctance to fight any faction. Despite this however, Kouralin worlds are heavily defended, most of them being shielded worlds with massive defense rings around them. Kouralins also have longer lives than Humans, about 4-5 times as long and suffer the same slow development of technology (similar to the Sandurians) as a result. However, Kouralin technology still FAR surpasses anything that both the Sandurians and Humans currently posses.
Technology:
In terms of whos the most advanced of the 3 current factions, the Kouralins are no question. In terms of weaponry, Kouralin ships use void torpedoes as their primary weapon of choice. The detonation of such a torpedo will result in a "void space" which is essentially a miniature black hole which exists for several seconds and disappears. A direct hit from this will ignore all armor, and all shields and directly damage a ship, even Kouralin shields are unable to deflect their own weapon. Additionally, Kouralin ships are equipped with more advanced versions of the plasma cannons discussed earlier with the Sandurians, so just think that but better range higher damage. Shields apply the same way they did with the Sandurians, except of course they can take alot more of a beating. FTL wise, Kouralins are quite fast capable of speeds that double what any Terran ship could do and about 70% faster than any Sandurian ship.

Here would be some ground rules that I would like everyone to follow, these might change slightly if really needed and i probably will add more if this gets any traction.
1: Anyone who is in an opposing faction and gets fired upon by an enemy ship must allot at LEAST 1 reply to combat, no "and I jumped away" nonsense as it will take a minimum of one turn to charge a jump drive
2: I would like to use an honor code here, I fully understand that this isn't a video game of some sort. So what gets damaged and by how much I will leave to the players in said engagement. If it gets too bad or there is an argument i will try and resolve it
3: Not all interactions have to result in a battle. By no means are you guys limited to just fighting.
4: no making up weapons or anything like that please and thank you, I will FULLY flesh out what faction has what in much greater detail later so that there is no confusion. That said there is no limit to HOW exactly on can use the weapons they have available.
(this is it as far as rules go for now but i will add to this list later)
Applications:
I don't want to sound cocky here by putting an application thing at the end of this but I will give you an idea of what I'm looking for as far as "characters" are concerned.
For starters you must choose one of the 3 factions, once picked you will choose a ship class:
Ship classes available (so far)
Stealth ship
Destroyer
Light Cruiser
Heavy Cruiser
Battle Cruiser
Light Carrier
Battleship
Dreadnought
(this list is subject to change and if anyone wants to suggest a ship class I will probably add it)
After that, at minimum I would like a a captain and an XO so you can get some in ship dialogue going, other crew is optional but recommended.
