Be like a duck; calm on the surface, but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

If it looks like a duck and sounds like a duck, it could be a really ugly swan

So, possibly interested, any chance I could get some info on the world? Major factions and the like? How magic (if any) works?

Also, do you have anything in particular that you're looking for in regard to character sheets?

Info on the world and the factions will come in-game. You will be able to create stuff of your own in character creation, too. A big part of this game is discovery. What I can tell you is that the game begins in a big wilderness, far from civilization.

I can tell you more about magic, though. It originates from a kind of mystical energy known commonly as mana. A sorcerer can use this mana as a powersource for casting spells. The ancients had awesome magicians capable of amazing feats, like calling down thunderbolts from the sky or levitating. They were in control of the magical forces. Magi in the post apocalypse can be just as potent, only... not as stable. Advanced attempts end in the mage going *BOOM* more often than not. I'm picturing magic as something extremely dangerous that warps reality in disturbing ways when unchecked. Harnessing it promises great rewards, sure... but it's very risky and the cost can be terrible.

Alchemy is also a thing. If you're acquainted with the Dwemer of Morrowind, you know what I'm talking about. If not, it's basically a more steampunkish form of science. Big brass pipes and automatons, weird minerals and all that jazz. It was all probably functional in the time of the ancients, but a thousand years of decay has left everything a bit rusted and odd.

I’m not going to provide a character sheet, because I trust you know how to make one yourself. Pictures are not mandatory, but appreciated.
Once upon a time the world was a fair place full of magic and wonder. Sorcerers pondered the mysteries of mana in their high towers while alchemists unraveled the secrets of science in underground laboratories. Artisans crafted masterpieces which would last throughout the ages and people rejoiced in the freedom and cultural diversity of their societies. It was an age of discovery and unprecedented prosperity, whose marvels we shall never see the likes of again.

Because the world has moved on.

The only things that remain of that world are ruins and broken baubles, glimpses of what once was and could still have been, had it not been for the disaster. We don’t know much about what actually happened, but what we do know is that it wiped out our glorious ancestors and their civilization in an instant. One moment they were there, and the next they were gone.

Without the might and order imposed by the ancients, barbarian warlords and raiders began seeping into the once civilized lands from the wilderness surrounding them. The world was plunged into chaos as warring tribes struggled for dominance in the ruins of the past. Horrors long forgotten crept out of the dark places of the world, spreading terror in their wake. The once peaceful land became untamed and unforgiving.

This is the reality of things, a thousand years after the apocalypse. It is an age of blood and strife, and age of fire and smoke. This is the Age of Iron.

So this here is a sandbox game in a post-apocalyptic, steam-punky fantasy setting. Think Morrowind meets Conan the Barbarian. We'll play a bunch of heroes trying to survive in the barren wilderness, while trying to complete some quest (or several) and developing our characters and their goals and stories. It will be gritty and dark, but also comical and lighthearted at times. There's room for creativity here, too. You can make up places, races and snippets of history as you create your character. Overall, we can have a lot of fun together.

What I'm looking for isn't great walls of text or the detailed thoughts of your character written i six paragraphs. I'm looking for action, adventure and a style of writing that makes you feel like you're watching an actor on a screen rather than living inside someones mind. When slicing an orc in half, don't describe how it feels; tell us what it looks like, what it smells like, what it tastes like. This will also be an adult game with blood, sweat, tears and other bodily fluids splashing about. It's not for kids or the faint of heart.

So come and play with me if this sounds as fun to you as it does to me.

Comments, questions and applications of interest below.
I'm going to drop out of this. School's got me pinned down with work right now and I won't have the time to contribute properly.
@Duck You know Zane did say you guys could eat and set up bunks first yes?

This is a rhetorical question, yes?
"Seems like food will have to wait then." Iolaire mumbled to herself. She didn't know mych about farming, but she was a seasoned hunter and knew some schamanistic magic, so she assumed she would have to feed herself if she wanted to eat. Herself, and the rest of the fort. She turned around and started walking towards the Lords home. "I'll go and report to the command post." she called out to the others, "See what I can do about the situation."
I'm going to cancel the game for now. I'll restart it at another time.
@DuckOops, I thought the first letter of her name was a lower case L, not an I.

It's ok, I assumed as much and just made it a RP thing instead of harassing you :)
"Iolaire. My name is Iolaire" she almost said, but decided to hold her tounge. He had given her medicine after all. She swallowed it quickly and almost retched on the spot, it tasted so bad. Then she followed the rest of the crew to the keep. It struck her then that she didn't know who to report to other than the commander. Frankly, she was at a complete loss at what she was supposed to do here apart from the general mission. The big man with the funny accent, Agmundr, seemed to know what he was about, though. She decided to stick with him until she got a clearer picture of what was going on. She approached him while he was speaking with a smith.

"Hey" she said, "I was thinking about getting something to eat. Care to join me?"
