Lavender smiled at Anna-Jayne. She wasn't so different from her and Brynn after all, she only showed her anxiety in a different way. "I guess we all have our ways to deal with stress and the unknown. Maybe she just needs the time to get used to all of this. She seems nice."

Lavender thought to herself before saying: "I know, right? I'm not one to get bad marks, either, and I don't mind putting the work in. I suppose magic is no different? I mean, we are being sent to school to learn, right? We should be able to pick it up by making an effort, right? But still... it's one thing to change schools, we'd have to do that anyway. But this is so much more. It's like changing lives or something. You kind of just wake up one day and realise nothing is what you thought it was. I ended up looking in the mirror every once in a while, just checking if I was still me." Lavender giggled as she remembers her first reaction to all the overwhelming news she'd had.

"The headmisstress came to talk to us, and mum and dad were great sports about it. I've always been weird, and they are fine with that, somehow. I think they mind me going to school so far from home more than they minded my being a witch. Come to think of it, I don't think they were very surprised at all. They seemed to know what was up as soon as the Headmisstress showed up at our door. They seemed relieved as well as excited and nervous." Lavender revelled at this realisation, and realised she'd been too caught up in her own feelings to have eyes for anything else that was happening around her. This left her wondering exactly how much her parents had known about her history and why they'd never told her. She trusted her parents and knew they loved her, but still... She'd have to send April home soon after all, to get a few answers.

"O that was awesome! I read about that spell but it is something else seeing it like this! WOW that was cool!" Inspite of her fears, Lavender was excited. Magic looked like a lot of fun!
She smiled at Brynn, who had suddenly gone very silent and realised she wasn't the only one who was nervous about all of this.
"Oh wow, we are actually on our way to Hogwarts to learn about magic. I wonder if any of us will be in the same house, or at least have classes together! I hope everyone is as nice as you guys!" Lavender looked over at Anna, who had been silent for a while, and wondered if there was anything she should do to pull her back into the conversation. She settled for asking "Do you think we'll ever get the hang of it all, Anna? We haven't even arrived yet, and I already feel like writing my parents." She glanced over at her bird and added, "I don't much feel for tossing April out of the window of a moving train, though. I guess I'll wait till we get settled in a bit."

During the ambush, Amaron had been in the back, taking care of anyone who came through. He had slowed down a few orcs with some well placed arrows before switching to his sword when he realised that not all of the orcs had fallen for the ambush. That's when everything had just become a blur of sound and movement, a big blur of swords, clubs, arrows and curses. Amaron fought for all he was worth. At some point he had had some difficulties with a particularly nasty orc. The orc had pounded him, leaving him weakened. He did all he could do, hacking and slashing, weakening the orc, but he'd failed to kill him outright. Amaron did not know where the arrow had come from, but he sure was thankful for the help.

Amaron killed off a last orc who was down for the count but still breathing, pulled his sword out of the carcass and wiped it clean on the grass. A proper cleaning would have to wait, but there was no way he'd disrespect his arms by leaving them covered in orcgoo. He heard Revan's command to return to Bree and saw everyone respond to the call. This was the perfect opportunity to dress his wounds. He'd become quite skilled at this over the years, and decided to patch himself up before offering assistance to the others. He retreated into the brush to remove his outer clothes and quickly checked himself. He'd sustained a few massive bruises and suspected some bruised ribs, but nothing appeared to be broken. His undergarments had softened the blows. He smiled to himself, once again amused by the happy side effect of his attire. He quickly and efficiently bandaged his cuts, put his clothes back on and emerged from the bush just in time to see the whole caravan starting up towards Bree. Amaron whistled for his horse. The animal responded instantly, as always, and Amaron joined the others who were waiting to return to Bree.
1: Name: Amaron

2: Sex: Male

3: Place of Birth: Minas Tirith

4: Age: 24

5: History:
Born and raised in Minas Tirith, Amaron’s family knew all the stories about Sauron and his armies and made a point of telling them to their children and children’s children. They believe firmly in the city’s role of watchman, and consider training for the defence of Osgiliath and keeping an eye out for activity in Mordor a sacred duty. Amaron spent some time training under Faramir, who has taken a liking to the unlikely soldier. Unfortunately neither this affection nor his skill with weapons and horses could save him the humiliation of being kicked out of the army and the city, forever separated from his home, his army, his family.
In a last, desperate attempt to contribute to the safety of Middle Earth, Amaron followed rumours of a band of Orcs tearing through the land. His hunt caused him to cross paths with Raven and his band of mercenaries. He eagerly accepted an invitation to join them, though he tends to keep to himself.

6: Race: Human

7: Random Information:
Amaron is the third of five children. Their mother died giving birth to Gonnor, 14 years ago. Their heartbroken father never remarried, and the boys basically raised themselves.
Amaron is tall and slender, almost frail. He lacks facial hair, and because of his appearance, he was rarely taken seriously by the others.
His father judged him too frail to fight, and sent him to work among the women. Amaron did not appreciate this, so he spent most of his life sneaking out to train with his older brothers, who laughed at him at first. This made him even more determined and he trained night and day. He is much stronger than he looks, has some impressive skills with a sword and shield and is the only person in his family who can handle an elvish longbow. He has learnt to use his appearance and agility as an advantage, and it has been several years since any of his brothers could defeat him in combat.
Lavender looked up excitedly when Brynn asked Isaac if he could do any magic. She was so terribly relieved to see that there were others who didn't have any of experience with magic. The headmisstress had told her there would be, but that's different than experiencing it for herself.
"It's nice to know I'm not the only inexperienced one. I assumed there would be others, but it's nice to see it for myself. No pressure Isaac", she said "but I'd love to see some magic, too!"

Lavender realised she had been quiet, and made a huge effort to get back into the conversation. It was just that she needed the time to wrap her head around everything that was happening around her. Fortunately, the others didn't know her personality yet, and didn't know how unLavender it was to be this demure. Ever since the train had started to move, and she was on her way to Hogwarts. All of a sudden, it seemed too much to take in and she caught herself wishing she was back home with her parents. Planning all of this had been fun, but now that it wsa there, she suddenly felt intimidated and small. She was happy to be in this compartment, though. It was nice not to be the only one who was new to all this.
She sighed and turned her attention back to the conversation.

LOL!

Having a really hard time writing battle scenes... am working on it!
Lavender glanced at April before answering Brynn's questions. "I hope so, I have been training her just like the owner of the Owl Emporium told me to. She's made a few test flights, and she's never failed to find me or my parents yet! I can't wait to have her deliver my first letter!"

She looked over at Isaak and Anna and said "Isaak, Slytherin sounds more interesting than they make it out to be in the books. I never really thought about it like that before. I suppose ambition in itself isn't a bad thing, it all depends what you do with it in the end. The same goes for being smart or brave, doesn't it?" Without waitin for a reply she continued "Do you know a lot about magic already? I've read a few things, but I'm kinda scared about using it, really."

Lavender realised what she was saying and suddenly fell silent. She blushed and stared out the window, lost in thought.

Lavender was listening to Brynn and Anna talking about houses and families and owls and smiled. She liked Brynn already and was happy she wasn't the only one new to all this.
She too had been reading Hogwarts, A History, and wasn't too keen on the idea of joining Slytherin. She had asked the head misstress about her parents, her father had been in Hufflepuff, her mother in Ravenclaw. Gryffindor didn't sound too bad, either, though she imagined she might be too thoughtful for that particular house.

Apparently forgotten by the other two, she smiled at the new boy and said, "That's a gorgeous ferret! I'm Lavender by the way, Lavender James. And this is April." Lavender pointed at the owl in her cage and smiled again. "Gosh, this is so exciting!"

Oh have you guys started without me???

Catching up soon, I promise!!!
Lavender arrived at King's Cross with her parents.
"Did you see that? That girl just walked through the wall" Mom nudged Lavender and giggled nervously. "Guess we're next."
"You go first, we'll follow together." Lavender smiled and nodded when her Dad suggested this. They had been watching people walk onto platform 9 3/4 for a while, and this seemed to be the right way to do it, if there even was one.
Lavender hesitated, she was a little nervous still. Then, she saw a man shove a hesitant boy through the wall. Realising she'd rather make it through on her own, somehow feeling like that would set the tone for the new year or something, Lavender took a deep breath, smiled at her parents, and pushed her trolley through the wall. She resisted the urge to close her eyes when she expected to hit the wall and walked straight in to her new life.

The platform was crowding with people. Most students were getting on the train, parents waving and handing almost forgotten items through doors and windows. Others had already boarded the trains, some parents were waiting, others were already heading back out. A few clusters of parents were standing around, talking to each other, obviously familiar with the situation. Only a few students were still on the platform, talking to their parents. Lavender looked around for the head mistress, but didn't see her. Just as her parents emerged onto the platform, a whistle sounded. Lavender looked around and saw students hurrying to get on the train. She looked at her parents, who had realised what this meant as well.
"Go on, honey, get yourself settled up there." Her parents gave her a hug and nudged her towards the train. They didn't hover, and Lavender appreciated that. Her dad helped her get her trolley on board, and then got back off, as her mom handed her the bird cage.
"Go have a blast!" Her mother said. "And don't forget to send us lots of news! April can handle the exercise."

Standing on the train, Lavender bent down to give her mom one last hug. Her dad ruffled her hair, "dad, please", and with a sigh and a smile, Lavender went looking for a compartment. She passed a few full compartments and, suddenly shy, moved on. After a while she came upon a compartment with only two students in it, a boy and a girl. The boy was already seated, together with a lovely cat, the girl was talking to him, or to the cat perhaps. could cats talk Lavender suddenly wondered or is she simply shy?

Lavender hesitated for a brief moment, looked at April for support and then opened the door. "Hello you two, is there room for us as well?"
