God, it felt like it had been ages since the quarantine began. With school out and society as good as dead, Gabi'd begun to get even more stir-crazy than usual. Sitting at home while her grandpa Yusuf wasted away in Portland ate at her already. Not being able to visit him during the duration of the lockdown only served to exaggerate her discomfort. The night before the quarantine was officially lifted, she'd barely slept. Promises were exchanged the night before, and finally having something to look forward to after the dreary state of half-existence she'd been floating through was elating.

"Hey, Gabs. Soon as all this is done, we'll go see him, alright?" Her father, MartĂn, had offered. Dozens of failed video calls and weeks of radio silence bored a hole through her heart, the guilt of abandoning Yusuf in some other city almost too much to bear. It wasn't really her fault, of course, but emotions rarely cared for the logical details. A cruel bit of coincidental timing or not, she felt like she could've been doing more. Fuck, even trying to give him a call had become next to impossible now. First it was the video chat constantly getting dropped, then an inconvenient dive off a table busting her phone's forward camera altogether. Finally being able to go and visit again was just about the only thing that could finally knock some of the built-up stress away.

It made the engine failure that struck the family van that morning even harder to accept.

The old thing had been on its last legs for the past six years. Between financial troubles and the constant pre-quarantine back-and-forth between Everbrook and Portland, the miles built up alongside the natural wear and tear it was already subject to. Something had apparently gone kaput in the engine, judging by the cloud of smoke flowing from the hood. MartĂn, as much as he was trying, couldn't just fix it by hand.

"Damn it," He mumbled under a defeated huff. "Something's gotta be wrong with the fuel line. Gonna need to take it into the shop to get that fixed..." The hood of the car slammed shut, and MartĂn returned to the driver's seat to mercy kill the engine. He sat the keys atop the dashboard and looked to Gabi, who silently seethed in the passenger seat. "I'm sorry, mija. Soon as this is fixed, we'll get out there, yeah?"

Gabi sniffed hard, rubbing the back of her wrist against her eye. "Yeah. Yeah, yeah, sure, alright," She answered, a slight but clear wobble under each word. A few quick blinks were supposed to disguise the tears beading up at the corners of her eyes, but one managed to escape. "Shit, shit, shit."

MartĂn reached over and put a hand on her shoulder, giving her a few pats. Though he could only offer small reassurances in place of an actual visit, he hoped that they could at least lessen the emotional burden. "It'll be alright, Gabi. You know he's not gonna blame you for not showing up, yeah? Between the lockdown an-"

"No, no, yeah. I know. Thanks, dad," Gabi interjected, forcing a smile. She glanced away for a moment, just in time to see another car drive by. "Fuck you," she thought, directing the insult more at the vehicle itself than whoever happened to be driving.

And then it clicked. Other people driving meant they were going somewhere. Now that quarantine was over, maybe she could at least go somewhere else in town. The internet at her house had been the best Xfinity plan they could afford (that is to say, awful), but the library had to have something better, right? Even if the speed was the same, it had to at least be more stable. "Hey, dad? I'm gonna head to the library for a while, yeah?" Gabi asked.

"Oh, yeah, 'course. When do ya think you'll be back?"

"I'unno. Later, not too late. Gonna try to see if I can get a call through to grandpa over there, though," Gabi answered. MartĂn nodded, taking a moment to retrieve his wallet. He procured a ten and a five and handed them to Gabi.

"Just in case you're not back in time for lunch. Be careful out there, ya never know if someone on the road'll be a little too excited to be back out there." MartĂn smiled to Gabi, who leaned in to give him a fuller hug. "See ya later, Gabs."

Gabi smiled, much more sincerely this time, as she tucked the bills into her pocket and got out of the malfunctioning van. "If anyone runs me over, let's sue 'em for a better car. Bye dad!" She said with a wave, slinking out of the van and onto the porch. Her bike was stored just inside the house for safety's sake. Once she had it, she walked it down the steps and mounted it, waving MartĂn off as she rode past him and down the street.

"Just look on the bright side," she thought. "Even if the library's a bust, least I can get something from Luigi's again."

Name
Gabriela Mendez

Age
16

Place of Residence
144 Courtland Street

Personality Traits
Adventurous: Gabi has a zest for life that's undeniably a significant part of her personality. She's never one to sit something out if it sounds fun, especially something new. Though she of course exercises restraint in situations that are obviously and blatantly dangerous, she likes to get out and about and will do just about anything (within reason) once. An experience is nothing to miss out on, and even if it's not anything particularly meaningful, she doesn't consider anything fun to be a waste of time.

Energetic: Befitting someone who likes to be near-constantly doing things, Gabi has a lot of energy. Too much, depending on who you ask. Gabi would definitely be considered an extrovert, as spending time with her friends is a hell of a mood booster in and of itself. She's also decently athletic, and has fun with certain types of exertion like off-road bicycling, hiking, and swimming. Her energy extends to less physically-focused hobbies too. Once you get her talking about her favorite dinosaur, it's hard to get her to stop. God have mercy if you ask anything about alligators.

Affectionate: Gabi tends to be that friend who's very open with friendly affection, physical or otherwise. Whether it's a held hand, an arm draped over the shoulder, or even the occasional platonic smooch to the cheek, if Gabi cares for you and you're comfortable with it, you'll know. Outside of being physically doting, she isn't shy about telling her friends she loves them. She's definitely the type to blast someone with dozens of heart emojis when she's in a particularly good mood.

Superstitious: Nobody could tell you exactly what caused it, but Gabi is a firm believer in things beyond the normal human perception. Aliens? Most likely. Ghosts? Almost definitely. While the expedition turned out to be more a night of goofing off in the woods, Gabi has attended a bigfoot hunt more than once and was firmly determined to capture _something,_ at least before five hours of nothing in particular had passed. All the same, she maintains an interest in cryptozoology, whether local or foreign. It's not her primary hyperfixation, but it intrigues her enough to engage in.

Stubborn: Though she's generally nice and she does her best to be so, Gabi undeniably has something of a headstrong attitude too. She's not one to give up easily or drop a point when she feels it's worth arguing over, and she tends to judge a bit too quickly and hold fast to those perceptions. While not exactly a flagrant behavioral issue, she has a low tolerance for people who aren't outwardly kind and holds grudges for longer than is healthy. Unfortunately, her protectiveness of her little brother has caused him some issues with other kids his age that Gabi doesn't realize she's partially the root of, and when particularly upset, she has a tendency to lash out at people she has grievances with.

Family History/Backstory
Mother: Laura Mendez, née Anglana
Father: Martin Mendez
Brother: Jeffrey Mendez
Grandfather: Yusuf Anglana

Gabi is an Everbrook local. Her grandfather moved from Somalia to America with his daughter during her youth. Her father is of Costa Rican descent and has had family in the state for as far back as their records exist. Gabi's parents met in Everbrook after they had both moved there in the early 2000s, in the midst of a mass migration of Somali immigrants to Maine.

Gabi was born on April 4th, 2004. She was lucky enough to have a good childhood, full of formative interests that would last for years to come. She did, however, experience her fair share of bullying as a young kid, especially throughout middle school. Being of lower class, mixed ethnicity, and displaying signs of some budding mental illness created a rough environment, one that she eventually began to fight tooth and nail against. Gabi racked up a number of infractions, both for minor grievances in class and for engaging in a few full-on brawls.

Despite the trouble she got into, her grandpa supported her completely. It wasn't hard to recognize why some of the shit she got was coming her way in the first place. Gabi naturally grew very close to her grandpa, which made his health's decline all the more harsh on her. In Gabi's freshman year of high school, he became severely ill with intestinal cancer. The severity of his condition necessitated hospitalization out-of-town in Portland, and for the past year, Gabi's made it an effort to visit him as much as possible.

Lately though, that's gotten difficult. Whether it was car issues, road work, work scheduling, or inclement weather, Gabi and her family have been unable to leave the city limits of Everbrook to go and visit him. His antiquated experience with technology has even made so much as a video call near impossible, and the stress of not being able to see him has been getting to her.

Gabi believes something weird is going on. The amount of times her potential visits have been stopped short are starting to feel like more than a coincidence, but whatever it's related to, she has no idea.

Other Info

  • Gabi has a lot of fun with off-road biking. She rides and maintains a hardtail mountain bike both for riding in the woods and in town.
  • Gabi likes to dance and enjoys EDM. Her other favorite genre is 80's rock.
  • Gabi loves both paleozoology and marine zoology. She's by no means encylopedic but she finds those types of animals the most interesting.
  • Gabi's favorite animal is the alligator. She had a short obsession with Steve Irwin as a child, and she owns a life-sized alligator stuffed animal. Its name is Al E. Gator.
  • Gabi is currently unemployed and believes herself far too stubborn to maintain a job in a retail setting. She's entertained taking a veterinary assistant course after high school or perhaps trying her luck as a zookeeper in a bigger city.

Haruka Sanegeyama

Seeing Yukari in such pain sent Haruka straight into a panic. If she wasn’t already having an anxiety attack, she for sure was in the beginning stages of one now. Her blood ran cold and her heart felt like it was about to explode, and both sweat and tears were starting to dribble down her face. The blood, the heartbeat monitor, and Yukari’s writhes of suffering were nearly unbearable to witness.

She didn’t know what to do, and that almost caused her to completely lock up. However, another girl in the room, who Haruka had barely noticed in her fear-induced tunnel vision, spoke up and gave her a direct path to take. With something concrete in mind, she would be able to do something, anything more helpful than just gawking at the awful scene laid out in front of her.

Giving Adriane a nod, Haruka barely managed to sputter out an ”O-okay,” though it came out as more of a whimper than a word. She wrenched her eyes away from Yukari, turned out the door, and ran to the first professionally-addressed adult she saw. Haruka damn near barreled into the nurse, but managed to stop herself on the wall they were near with a thud.

”P-please help,” Haruka said, her voice crackling at a nearly-inaudible tone. She swallowed a mouthful of nothing and tried again, forcing herself to be louder. ”W-we need help in Yukari’s room!! H-her IV came out, a-a-and she’s bleeding, e-everywhere, and
” Her stomach twisted viciously, and a gag interrupted her sentence. For a moment, she clasped her hands over her mouth, tried not to hyperventilate, and then once she had somewhat composed herself, tried again. ”I-it looked l-like her cast was o-off, almost, s-she really needs h-help, please!!!” Though she couldn’t contain her desperation, she was able to articulate the severity well enough to the nurse, and she hoped they would come along to help.

The nurse was carrying a stack of medical folder when Haruka arrived to her in hysterics. She put a calming shoulder on Haruka’s shoulder and shushed her. ”Okay, okay. Lead me to her room okay? Help is on its way.” the nurse took out her radio and called for extra nurses to come over to the trauma ward while she follows Haruka back. Soon two more nurses arrived to follow Haruka to Yukari’s room.

Haruka recoiled slightly at the touch, but the physical contact did manage to help calm her nerves a little. She nodded again, not daring to open her mouth in case her previous gagging returned, and turned to lead the nurses to Yukari’s room. She moved quickly, and once they got to her room, she moved off to the side to get out of their way. ”Y-Yukari, I got h-help,” She said, doing her best to sound reassuring despite the clear stutter that came from her.

After she had finished her homework for the weekend, Haruka was trying to figure out what else she could try to build for her suit. While there was plenty of cool things she wanted, she needed to be practical and think of things she could actually fit on her suit without compromising it’s weight. She also had to consider if she wanted to add gadgets to improve her suit’s abilities, or give her more utility. So many ideas and she didn’t know where to start!

Fortunately Haruka knows a good place to find inspiration: the Absolute Territory! It was a huge shopping mall that caters to superheroes and fans. She was sure she could find some books or tech she could add to her suit and make it better. If nothing else, it’ll be nice to get out of her room for a little while. She had been spending most of her time either doing school work or working on her own stuff. So after putting on some clothes she headed out to the Absolute Territory.

Things seemed peaceful as she was heading into the city but it wasn’t long before she noticed some police and crowds. She thought it might be a villain or a crime scene and sure enough she found herself in front of an alley. It looks like there was a big fight here as parts of the ground, walls, and buildings had been gouged out. There was some people talking about what happened and Haruka heard a few words, namely words like “Komei”, “Red Swordsman”, “Rubber Girlr”, and “Stuttering Kid”.

”Oh shit,” Haruka muttered to herself. The destruction present in front of her was already shocking enough, but the words being thrown around worried her even more than that. Komei, Rubber Girl, and Stuttering Kid? Were here classmates involved in this? Just what had happened here, and who was the Red Swordsman being talked about? Haruka swallowed a lump that had formed in her throat the more she considered what was going on, and cursed silently at her inability to call her suit from so far away. Maybe if she was lucky, and if something bad had happened, she could at least find something else around to manipulate.

Carefully, Haruka moved past the citizens discussing the events, not entirely willing to ask any of them what had happened. Maybe not the smartest move, but she was more focused on the actual scene ahead. She entered the alley, looking around for anything that might have left a trail as to where who she expected were Yukari and Donny had gone.

As far as crimes scenes go, this place wasn’t too gruesome. However there was obvious signs of a battle, and a violent one at that. Near many dents in the walls were smidges of black sludge, almost tar like in consistency. And then there was the large splatter of blood on the ground. Though it was mostly congealed at this point, there was still a red gleam that would make it unmistakable. Wasn’t long before a police officer approached Haruka. “Hey, this area is off limits. You’re interfering with a crime scene, please leave.”

The sight of blood put a twisting knot in Haruka’s stomach. Someone had been hurt, and pretty badly at that. She hoped it wasn’t either of her friends, but judging by the sheer amount of damage, she couldn’t imagine either of them had gotten out unscathed. She was about to continue before the officer came by, and she jumped a bit at the sudden interruption. After taking a breath to catch her composure, she raised her hands. ”W-wait! I-I’m a student at Komei, a-and I overheard some people saying, uh, other students that I know were involved? D-do you know what happened to them?” She asked, quickly scouring her pockets to find her student I.D. to present to the cop.

The cop gave Haruka a hard look, but then sighed and soften his expression. “Unfortunately I’m not at liberty to tell you what happened here. All I can say is that a violent crime happened here, and a few people have been taken to the hospital. Now please, leave. I don’t want you to get into any trouble.” The cop told Haruka firmly, but in a soft tone. He was sympathetic but he had a job to do too.

Haruka was still extremely nervous, but she at least had somewhere to go. She nodded and bowed her head, muttering a quick ”Thank you,” to the officer. At that, she left the alley and made her way through the crowd once more. ”Hospital, okay. Shit, I hope they’re alright
” She silently thought, wasting no time in taking off towards the nearest bus stop that had a route to Hosu’s emergency treatment center.

Though her ride was silent, she spent the entire time worrying about the well-being of Yukari and Donny. Though she hadn’t been too active in keeping up with anyone lately, she hated the thought of two of the people she had grown most comfortable around being hurt at all, let alone as severely as the crime scene seemed to imply. The blood splatter was already bad enough, but Haruka’s anxiety bolstered the thoughts of what could have gone badly to new levels.

Soon enough, the bus stopped, and she booked it towards the hospital’s front door. She didn’t bother waiting in line, running to one of the attendants that was sitting at the front desk with a “please speak to other attendant” sign in front of them. Once more, she whipped out her student I.D., slapping it down onto their desktop while she breathed heavily from her run up to the desk. ”I-I’m sorry, b-but do you know if a girl n-named Yukari and a boy named Donny are here? T-they’re my classmates, a-and my friends, and I-I heard they got hurt a-and got taken here and
” she trailed off, only a whimper of distress following, as tears welled up in her eyes.

Before she’d get a response a somewhat familiar face would arrive to the hospital. It was hard to miss her: it was Dulga. She didn’t even bother to stop and talk to a receptionist and just ran right upstairs in a big hurry. The receptionist seemed a bit shocked but got back to Haruka. “I don’t have anyone by those names on file. They may have just arrived or they might not be in this hospital.” The receptionist said calmly.

Haruka’s attention switched to Dulga for a moment. Seeing another Komei student here was reassuring in all the wrong ways. Something bad had happened, but at least she was in the right spot. As Dulga vanished up the staircase, Haruka’s tears started to overflow, and she looked back to the receptionist with an expression that read as desperation. But she believed what the receptionist had to say, so she nodded and bowed her head a little before taking her I.D. and starting up the stairs herself, failing to physically keep up with where the other girl was going, but coming upon the floor where emergency rooms were set up soon enough. She swiftly
walked in, I.D. in hand, and began searching for Yukari and Donny’s room by peeking through open doors as she strode past them.

Hosu’s hospital might’ve not been as big as some in the other major Tokyo wards, but it was still big enough that Haruka would have a hard time searching through all the rooms on the second floor alone before it got late. But as Haruka was looking around, she’d hear a scream coming from down the hall. It was girlish, and soon there was some loud sobbing. It sounded like Yukari.

The scream sent a chill of utter terror down Haruka’s spine. As fast as she could, she ran down the hall, following the sobbing to the room that it had come from. She nearly stumbled turning into the doorway, and once she was there, she called out to her friend. ”Y-Yukari?!” Haruka asked, her heart pounding and her thoughts racing.

Donnel sat between the garbage cans for quite some time. He had left his cellphone back in the kitchen so he didn’t know what time it was. All he could say for certain was that he was hungry. So slowly he stood up and started to climb into the garbage cans to eat the contents within. Normally he’d transform into his true self to make short work of the waste, but Donny was too depressed to be bothered. He just climbed in and started to shove literal trash into his mouth, consuming it with no trouble aside from the mental anguish of stress eating.

Throughout the gathering, Haruka remained silent and generally kept to herself. There were more strangers than people she could be comfortable talking to present, and the people that she was already okay with were all occupied with things of their own. She had pretty much decided to just finish eating and return to her dorm for the night, at least until she noticed Donny taking off. Since Haruka had mostly blocked out the conversations around her, she wasn’t fully aware of what exactly made him do that. Whatever it was, it didn’t seem like he was in a good spot when he left. Leaving her seat, she glanced at the crowd of people at the tables before she scurried away, following Donny with the intent of figuring out what was the matter.

Yukari was engaged in a bit of a conversation with some of the others when she heard a few heavyset footsteps leave through the front entrance. She only knew two like that: Haruka and Donny. She heard nothing of what they had said or what was said to them and normally Yukari would leave things alone, but Haruka was her roommate and she felt obligated to be with her when things happen. More so when Yukari had no idea what had happened. Excusing herself from the conversation Yukari went after Haruka and Donny, walking a bit beyond Haruka as to not be immediately spotted incase this was a personal thing.

Donny took his sweet time eating the trash in the can, making a bit of a mess as he did so. But even if he did all he had to do was lick it up, or just let a bit of his body out to chew at any stain that was on his clothes or body. He was really good at cleaning, even though what he cleans is disgusting. Some of the things were even maggot infested, but he devoured it like candy. By the time he was done the trashcan was spotless and he got out to start eating the contents of the other. He was so busy eating that he didn’t even hear Haruka or Yukari approach.

When Haruka caught up to Donny, she opened her mouth to say something, but stopped when she saw him climbing out of one now-emptied trash can and into the next. Her immediate response was of intense confusion as to what the hell he was doing, but it turned into concern very quickly. She couldn’t imagine what kind of awful things might have been in those things. ”U-uh, hey, Donny?” She tried not to sound judgemental, as she didn’t feel that way, but she found expressing herself in odd situations even more challenging than normal. ”What’s going on?

Donny was in the midst of eating when he heard Haruka’s voice call out to him. Though he was entirely concealed in the garbage can he still couldn’t help but feel the need to press himself low to the ground. ”N-N-N-N-Nothing! Go away!” He said shakily as he started to pile some bags of garbage over himself in a pathetic attempt to hide.

”I, uh,” Haruka pursed her lips, frowning as Donny’s try at being stealthy took place. ”I can still see you there?” Shutting her eyes, she shook her head and silently scolded herself. ”Oh, that’s just a great thing to say to someone who’s freaking out. Terrific job, idiot.” She took a deep breath and gave it another try. ”I-I mean, you don’t have to hide? I-if you just wanna come out and talk, or something?”

”T-T-There’s nothing to t-talk about! I was just
. I was just
. Cleaning. Is all.” Donny gave a weak lie to Haruka as he continued to try to pile garbage over himself. Maybe he could just eat a hole through the garbage can and hide inside of a hole for tonight. That seemed like just as good of an idea as anything else he’s been doing. ”Y-Y-You should g-g-go back to the d-d-d-d-dorms and finish dinner. I-I-I’ll be back
. Eventually.”

”I, I dunno, something’s...pretty clearly not right.” Haruka shrugged, letting her arms limply move out a bit. ”You, uh, looked upset when you left, and I, I wanted to make sure things weren’t too bad?” Of course, if someone was dumpster diving, chances are things were pretty bad. Primarily, she was still sort of baffled by it, but she abstained from bringing it up. ”I-if you want, I can like...I dunno, turn around so you can come out? Or something?” Upon making the offer, she did so, removing the trash cans from her field of vision. Instead, she caught sight of Yukari coming along. She jumped visibly, not expecting another person, but collected herself with a sharp exhale.

Donny sat in the trash for a good few minutes, not really taking up Haruka’s offer to get out. He wanted to just hide. But he also wanted to talk. So while he was still buried underneath garbage Donny spoke out from the echoing metal container. ”I
Was just t-t-talking to some girls and t-they scared me. They gave me a look t-t-t-that I didn’t like. Like I had done something b-b-bad to them or something. One of those girls was my f-f-f-friend
Or someone I think as a friend. M-M-Maybe I just overreacted
.” Donny said in a defeated tone. It was so much easier for him to just assumed fault than to think of what others may have done to wrong him. Because sometimes they may be justified in their reaction. Not that Donny was efver certain of this. ”I butted into a c-c-conversation, I’m sure I annoyed them so
 I just
 Left.”

From the sudden shuffle of footsteps Yukari could tell that Haruka just spotted her and was surprised. Quietly Yukari clasped her hands together in silent forgiveness, as well as holding a finger to her lip signifying that she wasn’t going to say anything. She overheard Donny talking and frowned. He seemed like the type of person who was very pitiful. Yukari thought of what to say, but she paused. If she said anything out loud it might scare Donny. She needed to be subtle. So going up to Haruka she whispered into her ears something she could say to Donny.

”Tell him that since he’s friends with one of them, he should go back and apologize when they’re done talking. She would understand. If he just ran away without saying anything it will cause a misunderstanding between the two of them.” Yukari didn’t know what exactly happened but she figured this would be good advice. Better than wallowing in despair.

Haruka listened closely, agreeing with the advice that Yukari gave. It was similar to what she’d been thinking of saying, but much better articulated, which would surely help Donny out a lot more compared to Haruka’s tendency to speak awkwardly. ”Thank you,” she whispered back to Yukari, turning back to the trash can to try and talk Donny out of the garbage. ”Well, since you’re friends with one, you could just, like, go back and apologize for interrupting? Stuff like that happens sometimes, you know, to everyone. She’ll understand, definitely. Running off like this might just make the misunderstanding worse.” After saying her piece, she looked to Yukari and made a very subtle, inquisitive noise, as if asking if she’d done well nonverbally.

Donny sat in the trash can a little while longer to think about it. It was hard for him, as much as he hated to admit it. He came to Komei to change and change was difficult. His first reaction to a bit of tension from his friend was to run, which thinking about it wasn’t a very heroic reaction. What would he do if more lives were on the line? He could really say that he’d do better, considering how badly he handles less vital situations like this? Still
He wasn’t sure if he was entirely ready to go back. But he could at least get out of the garbage can. ”I-I-I guess you’re r-r-right I just.... Dunno want to s-say. I um
. I’ll go back. Soon.” Donny shuffled around in the garbage can, tossing the trash off of his body. ”I’m uh
. Not smelling good. Might w-w-w-wanna save your noses and give me some s-s-space.”

Things seem to have gotten better so Yukari, still remaining quiet, tugged on Haruka’s sleeve. ”I’m going to head back to the dorms. Tell Donny that he should too, it’s almost curfew and the last thing we need is trouble on our first day.” Smiling at her roommate Yukari silently walked away and headed back to her dorm. She was full from dinner and wanted to rest up for tomorrow. No doubt it’ll be a busy and exciting new day.

”Thanks a bunch,” Haruka whispered to Yukari, smiling lightly. She’d helped out a lot with this situation. There was no way in hell Haruka would’ve been able to articulate the advice as well as she had. Once she was gone, Haruka turned back to Donny, stepping back and nodding at his advice. ”Hey, it happens.” Once more, she gave that casual shrug, an active attempt to not make a big deal out of it. ”Maybe, uh, talk to the others about all that stuff tomorrow? It’s getting kinda late, and uh, we should probably head back to the dorms.”

Bowing her head to Donny once he was out, she gave him a little smile as well. ”I’ll see you around, yeah? Goodnight.” With a small wave, she headed off after making sure Donny wasn’t about to dive back into the garbage. The poor guy didn’t deserve to be in there, especially not of his own volition. He seemed like a good dude to her.

Yukari’s alarm rang by her bed and she struggled to get a firm grip on it. She was always super loose early in the morning, and every time her finger hit the button it just molded around and slipped off. ”Muuuugh not today
.” Eventually Yukari did manage to turn her alarm off and stretched her body out completely. She was nearly three times her size fully extended, her body knotted up in different shapes and forms. It would have looked like a horrific murder to most people, but for Yukari it was just how she slept. She easily untangled herself and dragged her body to her closet where she looked for the school’s uniform. She had other outfits nearly hanging in her closet as well, picked out by others since she can’t really tell what’s a good look herself.

Once she had her outfit Yukari went to the bathroom to wash up, change into her clothes, and was pretty much ready to go from there. She went back to her room to get her school things, her cane, and to make sure that Haruka was awake. ”Ha-Ru-Ka-Chan, it’s time for school! Are you awake?”

Previously fast asleep, Haruka was stirred from her slumber by her dorm mate’s alarm. Her face, mostly hidden behind her mess of hair, took on an expression of distinct grievance. ”Ehhh
” she responded, a half hearted groan that at least confirmed she wasn’t asleep anymore. As tempting as it was to remain face-down in her pillow and not move, she hadn’t come to the school to waste her time doing the same thing she did at home, and with considerable effort, she wriggled out of her blanket and sat at the edge of her mattress for a moment, taking a slow breath and lightly slapping at her cheeks to gain some composure.

She did a basic morning routine, straightening out her hair, brushing her teeth, and dressing in one of the uniforms that were in her own closet, preferring the vest-topped style. After securing the bow-tie, she pulled her hair up into a ponytail and cracked her neck. ”Okay,” Haruka half-whispered, pulling her bag up onto her shoulder. ”Let’s get going?”

Nodding her head Yukari tapped her cane on the floor and walked out of the dorm. She grabbed a quick breakfast from the kitchen, two bananas and two yogurt drink, handing one of each to Haruka. ”I bet our first class is going to be exciting! We should make sure we’re properly fed before we get to it. A filling but light meal, enough to give us energy but not make us feel bloated.” Of course Yukari was used to having such a spartan diet, and the same may not be said for Haruka. At least Yukari grabbed the large yogurt drink.

”Oh, uh, thanks,” Haruka said as she took the food. Not quite as filling as she was used to, she had to admit, but it would do for now. With the drink in hand, she used her teeth to grab the banana’s nub, then peeled it back by moving her hand away. ”If it’s anything like yesterday’s, it can’t be too bad.” Those classes had been pretty good, even with the craziness that had gone down earlier in the day. She was looking forward to seeing how things went this time around.
Aye, my bad. Stuff's been up these past few days and I gotta catch up on everything new.
