Personality:

Rose is intense. As the currently leader of 'the clan', she has an almost unhealthy obsession with discovering all the secrets that Castle Bloodrose has to offer. She often leads the clan with strict rules and expectations, while at the same time attempting to come across as warm and motherly to get loyalty from more reluctant followers and those who could be stronger than herself.

History:

Throughout her childhood, a little girl was told of the power that the witches of old use to have.

She was told of witches who could create life from nothing, summon creatures from beyond and even control the devil himself. But witches like that only exist in stories and the last two to really hold that power, Medusa Bloodrose and Lorelai Von'Strauss, vanished years ago and no one really knows why or what happen. All clues point to a civil war between the two powers, but anyone who does know is either dead or isn't talking.

When the girl became old enough, she started hunting down anything that had to do with the fallen Bloodrose clan. Along the way she collected different witches who either had no choice, were clanless and interested in safety and power of numbers, or who wanted to bring back the old ways as badly as herself.

Upon gathering up a large enough group, she created 'The Clan' keeping it nameless until the title of 'Bloodrose' could rightfully and proudly be placed upon it. She also shed her old name, never to be mentioned again, taking on a new one, one that supported the cause. Rose.

Special Power: While her natural inclination is towards the healing arts, her current focus of study is geared towards necromancy and communicating with those in the beyond.

Things they look for in a partner: Passion, preferably towards her goals, but other useful skills are also a bonus.

Charlotte 'Lotte' Smart

Age: 69 1/2 years old

Personality: In her youth, Lotte was a friendly and trusting girl. Constantly searching for something to make life better. She tended to get very single minded on a topic that interests her. It isn't always the most important thing to focus on, but...the heart wants what the heart wants. Even if that is to categorize all of the life found in a tiny pond. Or investing in a demonic relationship.

Lately(rather, for the past 60 years), Lotte has been waiting. Waiting for her mother to come back because she promised. She has kept many of her childhood traits with her over the years, although life has given her a healthy dose of skepticism.

History:
Charlotte was born to Earl Smart and Sera “Vondela” Smart. The middle child of a set of triplets, Charlotte was always the most out spoken of the three. Thus , from an early age, always triggered the wrath of her father. Despite that, she was always very happy and friendly to all she met. And perhaps…a little too trusting of strangers.

She was also always a little odd. She found strange friends in the shadows. They always came to find her, but they never stayed long because they didn't like to be near her father. And her father didn't like to find her talking to the shadows.

After a particularly bad night with her father, her mother decided it was time to rid her middle daughter of her affliction and she sent her to the church to get her help. She also sent along her other sisters, to provide labor to pay the debt of the treatment. After a month of being there, a letter arrived informing the girls that their mother had passed away. The note gave no mention of retrieving the children, so they stayed at the church. Life getting much harder for Charlotte know that no one cared about her.

Then someone made her shadow friend real and he offered her a wonderful deal. Play a little game with some horrible men and he'd bring her mother back. The game worked well. She made it look like they killed her sister (Charon assured her it was just a wonderful bit of trickery) and she'd have her mother back.

Turns out Charon was unwilling to hold up his end of the deal and Lotte wasn't strong enough to make him. He was not unkind, however, and offered her the chance to have a new and better mommy. Her sisters would be fine, of course, Charon promised to leave them in a place where they'd be loved. Ashley, the youngest place just happened to be heaven.

It was all fine though, for a year. Lotte met a wonderful long lost relative of a sort named Lorelai Von'Strauss, who agreed to be her new mother. Through Lorelai she learned how to converse with demons and even gained her own familiar, a starter demon named Hebu, housed in a mouse.

Her training never finished, as not long after it had started, Lorelai vanished. Lotte spent the next 60 years wandering from place to place. Exploring the darkest parts of the woods looking for any place her mother's soul might be hiding.

Special Power: Basic demon control. Having learned her lesson, Lotte never summons anything she cannot easily beat on her own. Other than that, she mostly uses fundamental magic with a focus in energy explosions.

Things they look for in a partner: Someone ready to explore the world and make the choice to walk away when they could fight.

Pets/Familiars: Hebu, the demon mouse

Angharad Seher

Appearance:
To lose your humanity, you must first be human

The years have been kind to the woman, not that they had a choice. Her wild brown hair never allowing gray to stain it. Face, clear of wrinkles. Well, a face, but she is sure the original owner didn't mind.

Age:87

Personality: In her younger years Angharad had a very free opinion about life. She always chose to do as she pleased, when she pleased, if only to stick it to fate a little bit more. However, when she is going after something, a rare creature to combine, a love interest, an object, she is always very intense about it and is rarely derailed until she has reached her goal. However, once she’s had her fun, she is more than willing to jump to the next thing (and, this is also the reason for people reporting strange and unusual animals in her wake).

Not much has changed in the past 60 years, other than what little sanity she once had vanished with Medusa, not that she sees the connection. If she is talking sense to you, you've already lost.

History:
Angharad is the last, and thus the leader of the Seher Clan. A once large and powerful clan of Seer specialized witches. Known far and wide for their love of making the future a little fuzzier than it had to be for prospective heroes. They were one of the only clans to activity work with hunters as most hunters just saw them as a group with the gift of ‘helpful God-sight’.

The price of future sight is a high one. While the training takes years and years, the gift comes to a seer in a single night. The price of that being forced to look into the future and see the day that they would die. Knowing that nothing they did would ever change that fate. It was sad when a witch would see a short life in front of her, but it was the way of the clan.

Grethu Seher, Angharad’s great, great, great grandmother, lead the clan for nearly 300 years, before transferring leadership to her youngest granddaughter during a time of great suffering in the clan. While the clan stood strong for nearly 500 years, over the last fifty years, every new seer saw her death occurring at a young age, some only days after their initiation. Most of them were suicides, brought on by knowing they had only a short life in front of them. Angharad, being the only one whose fate was unknown, was the only choice to lead so that her Grandmother could focus on trying to fix the seer’s curse.

Angharad had grown up knowing that she’d never take the gift, even if fate was is set in stone, she’d rather take it as a surprise then face it head on. Although she did go through the training, her passion lay in creating of something new. Her wonderful, horrific animal, now human, hybrids, forced together by darkest magic.

After the death of her Grandmother, the last of her clan, Angharad took refuge in the Bloodrose clan for a spell. Bringing with her a 'box of fates' of 'people worth knowing the fates of', written by her grandmother and passed along to her. By this point her sanity was a delicate a best, trading the papers to Medusa for kisses and eventually taking her as a lover.

As the rebellion of Loreali waxed and waned, Ang whispered thoughts of war into Medusa ear, telling her how the two of them would over-power all. And that might have been the case. But when the fight took place, Ang forgot to appear, far too busy chasing after animals.

Now, eighty years later, although it couldn't have been more than an hour or so, she returns to her lover, ready to fight a battle that ended a long time ago. And with her, comes the creatures of nightmares.

Special Power:
A chimera creator: The art of taking two creatures, who were never meant to be together, and creating a new breed of animal out of it. Usually, created by putting two animals together, thus, giving the animal a conscious per head. If an animals has only one, then the creator chooses what lives and what dies. Chimera's can also exist if two chimera's breed, thus eliminating the problem of conscious, as only one soul will inhabit it. In the past few years, her work has brought her into the field of human transformation as well as using the powerful parts of the dead to improve the living model. She is also focused on the merging of souls. Just to see if she can of course.

Basically a F-you to fate.

Al Von’Strauss-Fisherson

Personality:
Like a working dog. Typically loyal when things are good, but will also eat you before your corpse is cold.

History:
Sixty years ago, his father, Taran Fisherson, wandered his way into the Bloodrose Covent as a highly untrained, sheltered firebug. After nearly burning down his village a number of times, he sought the help of the witches to control himself. Not long after his arrival, another new face joined the Bloodrose Covent. Alyssa Von’Strauss, the younger and significantly less power sister to the Clan's second in command, Lorelai Von’Strauss. Always second, the younger witch craved something that would be her's and her's alone.
Alyssa decided she wanted Al's father Taran and was only kept at bay by the works of Lorelai and another male witch Alphonse.

With Lorelai and Alphonse gone, nothing stopped her from using succubi to create infatuation and lust in Taran for her. By the time the effect wore off, she was already pregnant with the son that Taran would not abandon. So he stayed for the sake of his son, doing whatever it was that Alyssa asked of him, save give her a daughter she craved. Al being born a boy was perhaps the only thing that kept Alyssa around as long as she was. But after five long years in their seclusion, lead to Alyssa finally getting the daughter she desired. Five years after that, Alyssa and her daughter vanished without trace or explanation.

Although Al missed his sister, the house was a happier place after his mother had gone. His father tried his best to both undo the damage cause by living with the Von’Strauss and guild his son in the magical arts, while still being an amateur himself. Alyssa, being a traditional witch as well as craving a daughter instilled in her son that his goals were to not be an embarrassment and to never upshow a witch, even if he was better.

Those things stuck with him to an extent, his natural state is to serve a witch faithfully, although in theory, will abandon her the second she shows weakness.

Special Power:

Although a descendent of the Von’Strauss bloodline, he has not recieved the ability to make deals with demons. Instead, takes after his father as the firebug, although certainly has more control than his father ever did.

Nox Wilde

Appearance:

Age: 30

Personality: His whole life he has lived with purpose. Now he isn't so sure. He is slow to commit without all the facts. Likes to converse before action. A fierce fighter, but it is clear that his fire has died. In crisis mode, personality subject to change.

History:

From a young age Nox has always known what he wanted. To be templar, a hero in the night. To fight those things that threaten all the good that the lord had blessed the world with. So he trained, first with the sword and then his mind. He prayed and took oaths and eventually found himself a templar knight.

The templars were always trained to keep themselves pure of heart, soul, mind and body. So's the wicked ways of the their more fear enemies, witches, would not being able to taint them.

He fought witches, slaughtered werewolves (both in human and animal forms) and burred down vampire hives. Never once questioning if his actions were moral or not, for he knew that he was fighting with heavens light.

One night they had a simple mission, raid a witch coven. Kill all inside and may god have mercy on their souls. The mission was a success. Nine witches burned that might. Four women, one man. Three girls no older than five and a babe, a little boy who had yet to see his first winter. For the first time, in his whole life, he hesitated. Asking his commanding officer, nearly begging to reconsider the babes life sentence.

He was told that evil hides in the innocentest of forms and that not a single drop of wicked blood should be spared, lest the damn the rest of the world to the very infection they were fighting. His faith died with that babe that night. Faith in the brotherhood, in the holy war and in the lord himself.

Yet he knew there was true darkness in the world. True evil. He had seen it with his very eyes. Men being torn limb from limb by demons, young child bitten by werewolves and thus subjected to a cursed life. And it had to be fought. He was going to have to look and find it for himself.

After leaving the templars Nox entered the world of hunting. While not drastically different from what he left in terms of job description, he enjoyed the freedom it brought him.

Abigail Smith

Appearance:
"You are the light to fight the darkness, sometimes you have to cast a shadow"

Age: 69 1/2 years old

Personality:

Abigail has seen some things and has no qualms about reminding you that they existed since before you were born. She runs a tight shift about her tavern and she keeps those rowdy boys (and girls) inline. While never a hunter herself, she is knowledgeable in 110 ways to kill a witch using only your right thumb and a sprig of lavender. Idiot.

History:
Since her birth, perfection has been all that she had ever strived for. Perfect daughter, perfect worker, perfect sister. When she was 9 years old, she was left to live and work in a church after her parents became incapable of caring for their children. After the murder of her youngest sister when she was 9 1/2, she spent sometime with a mistrustful woman who eventually vanished.

All alone for the first time in her life, she was taken in by the tavern owner Bobby and his wife. She spent her youth running the tavern along side her guardian, learning everything she could about witches and how to weaken and destroy them.

Eventually, she married a lesser known hunter by the name of Erban Smith and they ran the tavern together for many years. While Abigail had very fruitful loans and bore 9 children, all but two of them never saw past five years of age.

They were all very strange deaths, one day the children would be happy and healthy running a muck, only to have die suddenly during the night. Yet, she still has her first born, Sercan Smith and her last Emalee West to dote on. Her two perfectly normal children, one a hunter and the other a wife of a blacksmith.

Signature Weapon: The power to cut you off from the beer, ale and rum.

Welcome sisters to Ruins of Castle Bloodrose, this will be your home from now on.

In the Beginning

In the beginning there was darkness, stone, and Ice. All was silence and still, but for the great dragons. Then came Fire, and with fire came life. Eventually man opened his eyes to the blue sky for the first time. The first flame is long forgotten, Gods and nations have risen and fallen as the sands of time continue to drip. It was said once, long ago in words no one remembers today that Witches and Hunters alike spring up from that first bright blaze. Witches represent the darker nature of fire, destruction, pain, and torment. Hunters take on its potential for light, but both are cut from the same cloth.

Today

Today hunters hunt witches, and witches practice black and dangerous magics. Once, Castle Bloodrose stood nestled in a mountain shadowing a few small towns. Now, nothing but ruins remains. The mystery of the ancient dwelling still haunts the surrounding town. But like a fester to a wound, a new band of powerful witches have come to unearth its ancient secrets and rebuild it anew. And like predators to prey hunters gather even now in the shadow of that great mountain. Flocking to rumors of some of the most dangerous witches of our time. It will be a hunt to be remembered, but who will remember it?

Not all is as it seems though. This is not a story of Good versus Evil, or Light against Dark. This is about Fire and Ice. Will hunters and witches alike be able to put aside old hate, old blood debts, to stand against what is coming? Or will the mistakes and hate of the past come back and decided for all us.

A few CS notes

A hunter's signature weapon is just that, a signature weapon. A hunter can be familiar with a broad array of weapons, but they're at a significant disadvantage when not weilding their signature weapon. A witch's special power is also just that, you may also assume that your witch is familiar with more basic magic, small divinations, herbalism, or other little things. However their special power is what defines their magic and makes up the bulk of their power, the rest is primarily descriptive.

Also, males can be witches and females can be hunters, although the reverse is certainly more common. That being said, witches are typicaly matriarchal in their covens, and hunting is percieved as a 'man's job'. So characters may face some adversity there, not a main point, and it won't bar any character from glory or the fear of their lessers.

Locations:

Castle Bloodrose

A ruined fortress on the outside, an ancient palace on the inside. Strange creature lurk the lower halls, remnants of a witch's experiment. But they seem harmless, mostly. Once, the Bloodrose Coven called this place home. The new witches have come to rebuild and discover the ancient powers that lurk within the halls. In time, your witch will have a room, libraries, ritual chambers, and experimentation facilities. But, for now, the goal is to rebuild and ready it to defend your from your enimies.

Seren's Folly

The place where hunters will be resting their heads between hunts. The small village of Seren's folly has everything a hunter could need. A loud tavern, a backup loud tavern if you get kicked out of the first one, a smithy, ample witch hunting supplies on sale, and several churches and temples for those with a faithful bent. Get comfortable gentlemen.

The Forest

The mountain is surrounded by a large forest. As we all know forest's contain supplies that witches and hunters alike need. From food to herbs it teems with the lifeblood of the village and castle alike. So be wary lest you happen upon a fight you're not ready for.

The Glow Wood

Supposedly one of the most beautiful sights anywhere in the world. It is rumored that the Glow Wood is as old as the mountain, maybe older. It teems with magical reagents and spirits. Although it was supposed to be the reason why the mountain was chosen by the Bloodrose Coven, none have seen the woods since the coven fell. The witch that finds them will be the unquestioned leader of her new coven.

You've got a general idea for the terrain. If you need a romantic field of roses or some such, make it up! Don't go too crazy though, and remember when in doubt hit me with a PM.

1: Guild Rules apply. This one should be obvious, but there it is.
2: Character sheets should be sent to me by PM. I'll approve it or share some concerns. When approved they, of course, go in the CS tab.
3: Limited Artistic Liscense. If the character is named, don't puppet them without their owner's permission. Don't declare you've found the secret to infinite power. However, if needed, feel free to make someone up to interact with, bartenders, less notable witches and hunters, bears, etc. I call them extras and they're there for your needs.
4: Keep it PG-13. Blood, Violence, Suggestive content. I don't mind some kissing or touching or whatever, but if it gets sexual, fade to black it, or take it to PM's. For my sanity if nothing else.
5: When in doubt PM me. This goes for any questions, concerns, or ideas you might have. My inbox is open and I welcome player input. However, my word is final.

Novice

Hunters: A little luck, a good plan, and the high ground brought you here. The long night is just beginning hunter, wet your blade, hone your instincts, and hope you don't become prey before your time.

Witches: So you've cast a few spells? Have some control over your gift? Well done, but that's just the beginning. Magic is intoxicating isn't it? Find yourself a coven quick sorceress, lest you find yourself alone in the dark.

Acolyte

Hunter: Welcome to the long night, hunter. You can finally number yourself amongst the ranks of those that run towards danger instead of away from it. This is a dangerous road you walk, check your pride boy, if you want to live another night.

Witch: True control is gained here. You're beginning to understand the basics of magical theory, but you're still mostly in the dark. Every old nightmare started here sorceress, but not many made it any further.

Disciple

Hunter: Well done, you've made it to the heights of what most hunters will ever accomplish. If you hung your blade up and started a family no one would blame you, the taverns know your tales by heart anyway. Maybe that's not enough for you? Is it because you're mad? Or does something pull at you? Blaze your way through the blood and dark hunter, you're beginning to understand.

Witch: How many sacrifices did it take to get here? Do you control your own little coven now? Maybe you've retired from black magic and became a medicine woman? Old tomes no longer have anything of value for you, words are not power after all. Seek the old ways, the dark ways. Close your eyes against the bitter wind, push on witch.

Adept

Hunter: Your form is nearly peerless, and you know more about the beasts that stalk the night than most hunters alive. People recoil from you in fear. Why? Is your killer instinct really so obvious? False friends fade, and tavern tales turn to dark whispers. Did you really think you were just human? Maybe you still do, hopefully you'll never live long enough to find out.

Witch: You're a walking nightmare. Spells pile up at the back of your long memory as quickly as the bodies of rivals and hunters do in your wake. You bloodline's gift speaks to you, offering up even more power readily. The outer planes echo with your power. No one makes it this far without delving into the dark arts, and they're called dark for a reason witch. Can you really stand any more?

Master

Hunter: Welcome scion of the hunter's moon. You're among the most powerful killers in the world. How does it feel at the top? Knowing you have more in common with the beasts you hunt than your mortal counterparts? Somewhere along the line something inside you spread its terrible wings, pushing you to transcend mortal capacities for violence. Are you awaited in heaven? Valhalla? Or does the pit eagerly watch for your fall? Stand alone against the deep dark hunter, no one else can.

Witch: When did you leave your humanity behind? When did it become so easy to sell yourself for power? Welcome bringer of the great dark. Your descent is now complete, you've completed your magnum opus and left the world behind. Or did you? Why do you still linger here Wise One? Did you leave something behind? Maybe you didn't like what awaited you at the end of your long journey. Reality buckles against the weight of your transcendent will, what great work awaits you next?

For those who were a part of the old roleplay, welcome, I am thrilled to have you! So, in my original plan I am hoping to have this take place many years after where the last one left off. That means that most of the (human) characters of the past will have either died or grown quite old. So (mostly for the hunters) you'll have to start fresh(or you could join as the children/heirs/protégés of your old characters) . As for the witches, you can bring your old character back or start fresh.

Alternatively, if you are all highly invested in the old timeline and want to re-do that, I am also willing to do that. Just let me know if you have any strong feelings about it, I'm fine either way.

@13org I don't think we need to worry about keeping the numbers even. From my experience with this roleplay is that people tend to create more characters as they go along (Pretty sure Brigh and Who where the only ones who ended up with less than three last time) and because it'll be a little while before hunter and witches really meet up andddd trust me, don't worry about that.

But I also understand that being one of the firsts to post is kinda hard, so I'll have my witch posted as an example before I expect anyone else to post a character besides @shagranoz who is an overachiever. (But you can still post if you want to)
